I am blessed with the vegan food in Hayes Valley! Om Sabor is top among them. We came for happy hour and I'd highly recommend doing so. We started with cocktails (both were awesome) and the happy hour mac and cheese croquettes. These were so so good, we ordered another serving. Also could not believe they were vegan. We then did the vegan carne asada tacos and ceviche tostadas. Both were awesome! Definitely not meat-y and a vegan texture but definitely not lacking in flavor. We really came for the seasonal (not cheese) cheesecake though, and it delivered. So creamy and the seasonal fruit flavor is exceptional. Also, how cool is vegan cheesecake?! Seems like an oxymoron but it exists. We will be ordering this again and I will be thinking about it for a long time. What a fantastic date higher. We snagged a table without reservations. It was a gamble but we felt lucky. There's a parking garage nearby if street parking is limited. The dining area in the back is dimly lit and hella romantic. We sat at a table top near the bar. It was fun to see all the action as the restaurant got busier. We dropped in for a snack but ended up trying a few things on the happy hour menu and splurged on the cheese board. The crane asada tacos were tasty. Came here for dinner with a friend and was so pleasantly surprised by the food here. Phonobar z Om Sabor has drinks and delicious vegan food. We got some cocktails which were delicious! My friend got a the spicy margarita and I got the summer gin drink and they were both excellent. For food we got the carne asada tacos. These are vegan so they aren't meat but the fake meat alternative was yummy! The texture is obviously not the same as real meat but the flavor was excellent! I loved the hot salsa on the side it added so much flavor. We also go the wine hibiscus cheesecake which was the standout for me. This was divine and I would come back just for this cheesecake. It was so creamy without it being over indulgent or heavy and the fruits were such a yummy and tart addition to the sweet cheesecake. I'm so glad I finally got to try this delicious vegan spot! As a non vegan, I have to say I was super impressed. Especially during the dessert course, I actually said that I forgot we were at a vegan restaurant! As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by every single staff member. It was such a warm welcome. We found a nice table in the back lounge area. It has such a cozy vibe and the music was really eclectic and enjoyable. The booth and chair seating were so spacious and comfy which is honestly a luxury in SF. Overall it was a very relaxing experience. Throughout our meal, our server was really attentive and efficient. As for food, the cauliflower wings are a MUST! Omg I don't know how they managed to make these taste so good. The texture was just like meat and the sauce was tangy and sweet. I honestly prefer these to actual wings now. My vegetarian friends were super happy with them too. Another big hit were the ceviche tostadas - crunchy and packed with flavor. The beet salad with the pistachio basil pesto was also phenomenal and another crowd pleaser. For dessert, we could not believe that there was no butter in the pumpkin chocolate pastelito because it was so flaky and delicious- everyone was fighting for the last bite. Wowweeee! 10/10 recommend! The service was fabulous! My partner (who uses a wheelchair) and I were able to come in and have a seat right at their accessible section which was actually accessible and usable (most restaurants use these mandated ADA sections as service stations, so this was a very pleasant surprise)! Thanks Sam (and the rest of the staff) for being so attentive and kind; the place has such a great atmosphere. The cocktails were great and the vegan food was phenomenal! We aren't vegan but wanted to give the food a try and wowza! Om Sabor did NOT disappoint!! The clam chowder was fantastic - I didn't miss the clams, the mushrooms they used were perfect in texture and the taste was incredible. If you're looking to grab a bite in the Theater district, definitely check out Om Sabor! Sharing a space with Phonobar, there are limited window seats at the front of the restaurant. If you have a larger party, there are also tables in the back. Luckily, we got there before the rush and managed to grab an intimate table in the front. Once dinner time hit the place was bustling! It was quite difficult to read the menu under low-lighting, but thankfully we have flashlights on our phones. We ordered the vegan crab cakes, hibiscus tacos, macaroni and cheese, and a slice of blueberry cheesecake. Because it's a bar, we were asked if we wanted to open or close the tab. We closed the tab and paid after ordering. Our food arrived promptly and everything was beautifully presented. Unfortunately, I only have fuzzy pics due to the low-lighting, but the taste is imbedded in my memory. From the perfectly crispy crab cakes to the rich and comfort of the mac-n-cheese to the not-too-dense blueberry cheesecake, everything was prepared meticulously! Despite the tacos having microgreens in them, I actually couldn't tell and thoroughly enjoyed it with the sauce. For those who don't regularly eat vegan food, proceed with lower expectations for the crab cakes. They definitely don't have that briny taste that crab has, since they're made of mushrooms, after all! We finished off with the cheesecake, which was made of a tofu base and topped off with a hibiscus reduction. It was my first time eating a tofu cheesecake, and I'm pleased with the result! From the happy hour menu I got a slider and ceviche tostadas and I also ordered the clam chowder. My favorite ended up being the slider which was really tangy and rich. The chowder was tasty too but it was essentially a creamy, garlicky mushroom soup so don't have too much expectation that it tastes like clam chowder. The tostadas we're also good but they weren't as unique imo since tostadas usually have a lot of vegetables on top anyway so I'd try something else. Let me start off by saying the ambiance in Om Sabor is amazing - upscale, classy, dim lit with backlighting that gives it a very romantic feel. I tried the Ancho Teriyaki skewers and I was impressed. The food came out fresh, a great char on the skewers and the rice was authentically sticky. I wasn't a huge fan of the plating nor the sauce they drizzled on the plate before anything was placed on it but it's low hanging fruit. The restaurant wasn't that busy but service was good. The salad was creative and delicious but the scene that prevented comfortable conversation has overwhelmed the food when I'm deciding where to eat. Also, the limited seating makes it so you have to hang out staring at other diners' meal status to try to nab a table without assistance from the staff. Not that they are brand new (as they were offering their foods for a while before Phonobar), but I'm so happy they have a permanent spot there. Om Sabor is just the right combination of great and well-presented food. The menu changes frequently, but you can't go wrong with anything they offer. I remember first experience having a loaded BBQ mac and cheese and it was heavenly. Another favourite was the potato cheese au gratin. These are dishes I once would have thought I'd never have vegan. But Om Sabor brings all of this to delicious life. As for the setting, phonebar is a nice combination of relaxed and stylish. This bar/restaurant had such an interesting vibe with a live DJ on a Friday night. I appreciate an all vegan spot so much since I'm vegetarian. The drinks were good but not strong at all but very delicious, I feel like they could have been stronger for the high price. The food was all so small and a little overpriced for what jt is but it was good but not amazing. The service started off great, this wonderful woman was helping us until her manager took her off our table, normally this would be fine and the guy was kind to begin with. He was the manager and the kind woman kept checking in to make sure we had everything. We waited close to an hour for four out of our 6 food items to arrive so he came to our table and asked us what we were missing and my friend answered by listing all the items and he said to her (with attitude) "ok you need to calm down" and it took us all by surprise. I think immediately after we saw him regret what he said, he said he would comp all the items that came late and then brought out a dessert for free. I appreciate the immediate response to his tone but that should have never been the case. When the bill came we were never comped for all the items he said we would be comped for but whatever. The hibiscus flower tacos were so unique and flavorful and scrumptious that my estranged brother got a text. Now I kinda have to deal with that. Look at how beautifully everything is plated! Food and drinks were just okay; I only really liked the dessert. Should've been a 3 star review but the manager is oddly defensive and tried to gaslight me after my waitress asked me if there was a problem with the service when she saw I only selected a 15% tip. There was a problem, but not a major one. It was just a little hard to get a hold of anyone. I wasn't upset about it until she and the manager got so oddly defensive and confrontational about it. Will never come back. In hindsight, I really shouldn't have been surprised by the manager's behavior and I should've actually expected it because during my meal he loudly swore at a customer whom he told to leave. The ambiance is dark yet inviting with great music, the menu was awesome! Completely vegan and notations on the menu of what is gluten free, soy free and nut free as well. Perfect for those of us who have allergies to wheat and nuts. The staff and servers here are wonderful and welcoming - even with a child (children allowed before 9pm). They have a great txakolina wine - something I don't see on menus very often. And the distance to the Opera or symphony can't be beat! Presentation of food is also lovely.
