This omakase is a delicious party! Came here for my birthday and Chef Aung made it super special! I will definitely come back. Every bite was glorious. Just go! It's BYOB so pace yourself! Enjoy!

Another visit!! Since I loved my first time here, when my best friend was thinking about where to go for her birthday, my positive review locked in the choice. We got the 8pm slot, though they didn't open the door until about 8:05-8:10pm. Very loud but friendly atmosphere. Casual but not too casual. About 10 seats, all counter. Intimate. There were a couple courses that I thought could be adjusted to be better, but overall everything was enjoyable! Last I came it was about 2 years ago, price point was ~$140/p not including tip. Now it's about $175/p. Nice dinner and experience but definitely not friendly to the pockets haha. Great for special occasions. I believe it was about 2hrs, and they give birthday dishes so make sure to mention that!! I wish I could add the new pictures from this visit without deleting the ones from 2 years ago :(

What a vibe! Chef Aung created a vibrant welcoming atmosphere... so much so that by the end everyone at our in the restaurant were singing, laughing and vibing. I highly recommend.

We came to Omakase by Aung to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary, and it turned out to be such a memorable experience. From the moment we sat down, Aung made everything feel comfortable, fun, and personal. This is definitely not your typical omakase experience--Aung truly knows how to entertain his guests while still delivering top-notch food. Every course was superb, and the entire experience felt thoughtful and special. His sous chefs were also incredibly sweet and fun, which added even more to the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. It's a BYOB spot and a true hole-in-the-wall along Kapahulu Ave, but don't let that fool you--this place delivers an amazing dining experience. Aung made our anniversary unforgettable, and we're so glad we chose to celebrate here. Highly recommend.

Compared to the traditional omakase places where you sit and eat your meal quietly, Omakase By Aung is LIT. Maybe a little too lit. I've been here twice now for the later seating and it's always been so much fun and the food is great too. There are about 17 courses (including dessert) in total. Every course is thoughtfully prepared by Aung right in front of you. We all though the uni toast was amazing but my favorite has always been the scallop. The quality of the fish is amazing and it's super fresh! Seating here is limited so reservations in advance are a must. This place doesn't sell alcohol so it's BYOB and our group took turns taking tequila shots with Aung. Will definitely be back again! Food is great, pricing is reasonable, and the people there are fantastic.

What a surprise experiencing this Anniversary dinner that was planned by my son where we learned upon entering that this 18 course omakase would be in an intimate 12 counter seat where Chef Aung and his Assistants Nunu and Lexi would be presenting in front of us as their only guests. To explain further, there are only 2 seatings at 5:30 and 8 pm. Arriving at 5:30, there were no tables like a traditional restaurant and instead a total of 12 seats at the Exhibition Counter hence a reservation to dine is needed. We were the only ones there during our time slot which made it more personable as we got to know the Chef. Since my son mentioned it was for my wife and I 's anniversary he surprised us by opening up a bottle of Cabernet. But wait, it wasn't until I was seated for 10 minutes that they do not sell alcohol hence it is BYOB which is allowed with no corkage fee. The food was amazing coupled by the fact that we learned he lived in San Francisco for a period of time graduating from SF State and he was familiar and had dined at my favorite Italian Restaurant. Pictured are the major of the 18 items and ended with a popular R&B song which played during our complimentary dessert. Hands down this was comparable to the French Laundry in Napa but even better since we're the only guests during that time slot. If I could give more than 5 stars for this review I would. Definitely recommend for a special occasion or if one is on an expense account.

Unlike the other Omakase I've had, this one was definitely the most unique and fun! We really enjoyed our dinner here!! * Parking: There's a small lot behind the building, otherwise you'll have to find street parking. * Ambiance: This is literally a hidden gem as there's no exterior signage. Inside is small, with less than 10 seats on the sushi counter. Aung was on aux and lemme tell you.. his playlist was fire! I loved jamming out to his mix of r&b, rap, and classics during dinner. * Service: Chef Aung and his crew were the best! The staff were so personable, attentive, and fun! In contrast to traditional omakase, the rapport with our chefs were more laid back and casual which I enjoyed. I also appreciated the rounds of shots they gave us, as well as the special treat for my husband and I's anniversary. * Food/Drink: Ugh don't even get me started on how fresh & rich the fish was--all the sushi literally melted in my mouth. And the flavors were just chef's kiss. TBH i can't even pick out a favorite course bc everything was so yummy! It's also BYOB so don't forget a bottle (and don't forget to share some with the chefs!) Overall, this dinner was worth the splurge. I can't wait to come back!

My wife and I wanted to try omakase for the first time and this spot did not disappoint! Food was great and the vibes were fun, chef aung and the workers were on point from start to finish. We brought a few bottles of soju because it was BYOB, so I definitely recommend bringing something to drink. Overall worth the experience!

My bf and I came here to celebrate our 5 year anniversary, and we had the best experience with Chef Aung. What truly makes Omakase by Aung unique is the experience itself. It is fun and personal, and Chef Aung makes an effort to connect with his guests. Not only was the food delicious, but the connections and memories made the entire experience so worth it. Each seating has only about 8 to 10 guests, which makes it feel cozy and intimate. At the end of our meal, Chef Aung surprised us with a final course to celebrate our anniversary, and everyone cheered along, which made it incredibly sweet and memorable. I cannot recommend this place enough. If you're visiting Oahu this place is a must!

Our party of five had an amazing time with Chef Aung as we celebrated birthdays and a graduation. Two in our group have been there once and the rest of our group had quite a memorable first-time experience with him. As you can see from the pictures of our sixteen items, all the fish was fresh, the uni kept its shape, and Chef did not skimp on the Caviar:) The smokey corn soup had treasures of shrimp as well. Rice was perfectly seasoned and Chef is really skilled with his food torch! If I had to pick a favorite, it's everything he topped with caviar. A close second is the luscious otoro and chutoro. A close third is the yellowtail with freshly zested lemon. Oh and a very close fourth, the sweet scallops. Alright, so top five includes the seared wagyu! I love his attention to detail. Beyond the fun Playlist and partaking in sake with us, our experience was filled with delightful conversation. Chef Aung did not skip a beat, all of the dishes were served with exquisite presentation and taste. Additionally, he gifted our VIPs with a special nigiri complete with candle! Such a lovely touch. Since we were allowed to bring in a birthday cake and supplement the smooth vanilla ice cream with fresh fruity glaze, Chef graciously cut and served the cake after playing a lively birthday song. In the same fashion that he slices fresh fish, we observed Chef Aung clean the frosting off the knife blade with each perfect slice. He enjoyed the sweet potato birthday cake with us and after the clean up, he dimmed the lights and brought out the karaoke. I don't remember what time we left but each of us had at minimum, two songs on his mic. Thank you Chef Aung. We all had a memorable evening with you :) There is truly something to be said about great food and memorable conversation.

I always come here whenever I'm in Oahu. My fave omakase in the island. Chef Aung doesn't disappoint. Good vibes as well.

My wife and I came to Oahu for my little sister's birthday, and this ended up being the highlight of our entire trip. Chef Aung created an incredible vibe from start to finish. The staff was fun, warm, and genuinely welcoming, and the quality of the omakase was absolutely top tier. We've had omakase in SF, New York, and even Japan, and in terms of overall experience, nothing compares to this. It was the most memorable omakase we've ever had. This will be a permanent stop for us every time we visit Oahu. Bring friends, bring your own booze, and get ready to make core memories. Thank you for an unforgettable night that will stay with us for the rest of our lives.

    Stephanie B.

My friend and I came for the first seating of the night and it can accommodate 8, but there were only 6 total. We brought some beer and seltzers to drink and the other groups did not bring anything. It took a little bit for Aung to warm up and get in his groove in terms of dialogue, but in the end he was fun to talk to and we liked him. I found the dishes to be very nice. The dishes with uni were my favorite and I even enjoyed the the two mackerel preparations though that isn't a preferred fish of mine. When we got to the final piece which was unagi, I wasn't sure if I could even eat it. Even with 2 liquid courses, it's A LOT of food plus a small ice cream dessert. Maybe the 530 seating is tame and the later one is wild, but there was no issue with drunkenness or uncleanliness or anything. The meal was worth the price and I would do it again.

Omakase By Aung Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Omakase By Aung

Hi, how much is it now?

It says $150 pp on their website! Probably before tip and tax.

    Are kids welcome?

No, I don't think so. I have not seen Kids in the restaurant. Mostly its BYOB and drinking bar setting. I've dined here over 50 times already.

Is Omakase By Aung child friendly? We are planning to go with a friend with children, and was wondering if that was OK?

Maybe try booking a reservation for the AM. PM reservations feel more adults only.

    Is it still byob?

    YES

    Where do you park?

Free parking is in the back of the building next to the CBD store or they have paid parking across the street of the restaurant.

How long in advance do we need to make a reservation? Are walk-ins allowed?

Highly recommended to make a reservation on OpenTable. There are only 12-14 seats for the 530p and also for the 800p seating.

Do you have gluten free soy sauce/tamari?

    No they do not.

Since this is an omakase with sushi bar service, are you still expected to tip 15%+? If so, why not just add the tip to the price? Just curious?

Tip is based on your experience , it is completely up to you on how much you want to tips

However, the service is very friendly! I had the deluxe pork loin set which includes rice, salad, soup, and curry sauce. The meat was extremely tender, but the coating was a touch oiler than I am used to. The curry sauce was really tasty and was a nice addition to the katsu! I also love that they had fountain soft drinks with complimentary refills. This was a very tasting tonkatsu dining experience in Honolulu!

They release reservations about a month in advance, and I highly recommend booking if you're able to as soon as you can. Even with a reservation, there was still a wait. We arrived around 6:45 PM for our 7 PM reservation and they had already stopped accepting walk ins. We were seated around 7:10 PM, so definitely expect some extra waiting even with a reservation. Once we were seated, though, the food was absolutely worth it. We had the chicken katsu, sizzling miso, minced pork, shrimp and chicken, and a katsu sandwich to go. The chicken katsu was AMAZING and easily the best katsu we had on the island. The sizzling miso was also amazing, and the shrimp and chicken was great. The minced pork was probably our least favorite, but still decent. And the katsu sandwich we took to go was amazing as well. I also really enjoyed the sesame at the table. You grind it yourself and then mix in the sauce, so you get that fresh sesame flavor right before eating. It was a fun little part of the meal and made the whole experience feel more interactive. The only real downside was how cramped the table for two felt once all the dishes, side dishes, sauces, and everything else arrived. There is a lot going on at the table, so there isn't much room to spare. My only real complaint was actually how they handle the waiting area. The space is tiny and was absolutely packed with people waiting to be called. They told us to wait inside, but there was plenty of room outside where people could have waited instead. It would have made the tiny indoor area much less crowded and easier for everyone.

Since it was late, we noticed the back of house staff help the front. Everyone was so friendly and food comes out fast. I could also say portion of some items may not match price, but I understand inflation is increasing at an alarming rate. So I'll leave money out of this. Crushed cucumbers were interesting. We couldn't decide if eating it with chopsticks or spoon was better. With chopsticks, you might not get enough sauce. But you could taste the layers of flavor. With a spoon, you get too much saltiness. The spice hits at the end. The tako karaage were a little too chewy for us. Beef tongue was so tender. A definite must order. They also have excellent tempura and sashimi. My favorite is the 'Hana' (cold soba w/tororo-unu-ikura-wakkame-nori-negi) but add ume & natto, and a side order vegetable tempura. (They also have incredible unagi tempura and a kakiage over hot soba) - plus they have yuzu ginger sorbet!! Service is always polite and friendly which makes it easy to become a regular here. Prices are well worth it for the quality.

Little Plum is always an enjoyable experience. First of all, the restaurant is quaint and…read morecomfortable. The dining area is one open area, the table setting is cozy with its crochet coaster and wooden chopsticks rest. There's an open kitchen so you can watch the chefs put love into each dish. My server even pointed out who will be making my crispy pork belly. The wait staff is so helpful and welcoming. They made sure our vegan friend was well-taken care of. She suggested the mushroom jook where they would put the chicken on the side. They even added more mushroom to elevate his dining experience! Today we ordered family style, which they happily accommodated for us. They served the rice on the side. Our menu included short rib bao and shiitake bao (vegan), ume tomato, namul, spicy miso eggplant, crispy pork belly, menchi katsu, and mushroom jook. The standouts were the crispy pork belly with its watercress tomato onion salad, the ume tomato on whipped tofu, and spicy miso eggplant. The mushroom jook is so comforting, hearty and full of flavor served with chicken confit and a soy egg. The two desserts offered are both winners. The mochi churro with kinako and anglaise is crispy, light and creamy. The pineapple orange pudding is so cool and refreshing. And, 100% of dessert sales go to the culinary team! What?! Love this place. Plus, with you check are some fun asian candies -white rabbit and haw flakes! I haven't been there for dinner yet. That'll be next.
