Tampiquena - Thin steak, one cheese enchilada, rajas salad, sliced avocado. Served with rice, charro beans and tortillas. $20.99

Honestly, we must have driven past this restaurant in downtown Waxahachie on Franklin numerous times before I realized it was there. Which is too bad because Omar's Mexican Cuisine needs to be noticed. I can't speak for the bar presence or the sports TV scene (there are TV's everywhere); but the Cuisine, the food that we enjoyed was dynamite. The menu will blow you away. It's huge. I finally settled on the Tampiquena. Thin steak, one cheese enchilada, rajas salad, sliced avocado with rice, charro beans and tortillas. As an enchilada lover, especially authentic cheese, I asked for salsa verde and diced onion - and it was so very good. The thin steak was perfectly cooked and I loved it; but it was the rajas salad that was incredible. The strips of roasted poblano peppers, onions and corn were well seasoned and scrumptious!! I could have eaten a bowl of that salad. It was a perfectly balanced plate of food. My husband had the Barbacoa plate - Barbacoa meat dry with salsa Verde, cilantro and onions on the side and served with rice, beans, sliced avocado and tortillas. He was in his element. Lots of meat and beans and a big pile of hot aromatic rice. We had a nice time. It was a weekday nite and there wasn't much of a crowd. The TV's were turned down along with the lights, and our server was engaged. We would certainly go back. Parking is on the street.

This is a really nice looking restaurant right downtown. Should be a great place for drinks and Tex-Mex on a weekend evening. The enchiladas were ok, I got one w/ queso and one w/chili con carne sauce, which had separated, so it was on the greasy side and not much flavor. Chips were stale but the two salsas were good, one red one green. The nachos were literally thrown together, not impressive at all. Tacos were fine. We ordered an espresso martini, Paloma, and a Mojito. $11.00 each and really not good! Our waitress was also our bar tender, she was trying! Where was the real bartender? We were the ONLY table in the place at 7pm on a Saturday, should have told us something. The rest of the staff were all hanging out at the back bar table watching soccer, I'm pretty sure we were listening to their favorite music, which was not in the least enjoyable, and killed the vibe of the place. Overall we just couldn't get out fast enough. Sorry Omar's downtown, sadly just not worth going back.

The food was good! The young lady was helpful and friendly. The facility was clean and cozy but open. I should have gotten a spoon for my refried beans! Lol

Fajitas were tough and over cooked. Beans & rice were tasty, but not hot. Small flour tortillas were tough.

Its location right on the square is perfect for a peaceful start of the day with a clear view of the beautiful Ellis County Courthouse. The interior of "the Mini" is beautifully neutral, simple and most importantly clean. Service was great and so friendly. I went all out and ordered the hot honey chicken biscuit and when the waitress asked me how I wanted my eggs cooked? Let's just say it was a lot of food! When dropping off our meals she suggested a side of gravy and looking at all the calories on my plate declined. The next time she checked on us I accepted her recommendation which added another layer of taste sensation! The home fries were great, I would select over the hashbrowns just because they are true HOME fries. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the hot honey butter on the chicken was the perfect amount, not sopping. The biscuit was dry but a small dip in that gravy...perfect bite! My spouse got the eggs Benedict and he rated them good and preferred my home fries over the hash browns. His OJ was served in a whimsical glass, small touch but added charm! The place was busy with a mix of locals and visitors which is always nice to see. Our check was about $37 and we agreed it was a reasonable value. Thank goodness we brought a cooler on our trip, that chicken biscuit was great leftover the next day! While my description may not depict a 5 star rating, I'm all in supporting local spots that are hustling in small towns to help keep them alive in a time where farms and ranches are being turned into homogenous strip centers and zero lot line homes. Highly recommend this charming restaurant!

Unfortunately, this visit was extremely disappointing. We were there for almost 2 hours and still hadn't even been able to place a food order. The restaurant seemed completely unprepared for such a busy holiday. They ran out of dishes and had to switch to plastic ware, and my husband's drink was served in a red Solo cup. What made the experience even worse was the DJ setup. The speakers were enormous and the music was turned up so loud it felt more like being inside a nightclub than a restaurant. I enjoy music and a fun atmosphere, but not at a volume where you can't relax, talk, or enjoy dinner comfortably. It became so uncomfortable that I actually had to leave and come back later to pick up my husband and friend after they finally received their food. Sadly, I never even got to eat dinner that night. Cinco de Mayo is a major event every year, so there was plenty of time to prepare for the crowd and overall experience. I truly hope management takes customer feedback seriously -- especially about the excessive volume level. A lively atmosphere is great, but customers should still be able to enjoy their meal comfortably

My husband ordered the loaded enchiladas and thoroughly enjoyed them too. We were greeted and sat immediately, our server was very attentive and kind, and our food came out HOT and fresh! The salsa is always good, they give you a green and red, we opted for queso too, a good yellow queso that actually tastes like cheese. At one point there were 2 music situations happening (restaurant nusic PLUS jukebox maybe?) that was overstimulated but I think staff picked up on it and turned one off. We will definitely be back!

They weren't busy at that point, there were like 2 tables with customers, the lady that took my order was really nice and courteous. I ordered 6 barbacoa tacos, they were super small, and they doubled the small tortillas, but my husband says that's common so there's that. The meat portion was ok but not enough for 2 tortillas piled together, I ended up taking one of the tortillas off the tacos and together we made like 7 one tortilla tacos, I wish I would've taken a picture before we ate them, they were really nice and neat. The barbacoa, was super juicy and soft, I thought it was good, but my husband didn't like it, he said it had too much anise, I don't know how to make barbacoa so I couldn't tell you what I was tasting, it had a somewhat of a sweet taste to it, but not strong to me, I enjoyed it, I ate like 3 tacos and my husband ate like 2. It was our very first time visiting this restaurant, but I would like to go again and perhaps try something different, according to the Yelp reviews, they say this restaurant is really good so I'm going to give it another shot and hopefully my husband will like it better if he orders something that appeals to him. I have to say, I enjoyed the barbacoa tacos, I thought they were good.
