I chose to get the loaded Mac and cheese and it was fantastic - tons of brisket and mushrooms on top! There were also 4 sauces to choose from on the table - two types of bbq sauce, a mustard, and my favorite, the horseradish sauce. My friend ordered the pulled pork, and his favorite sauce with it was the cilantro barbecue. The sides of potato salad and cornbread were also really tasty! AMBIANCE: There is plenty of seating inside for a busy weekend night, and the decor is nice with lots of pigs, cows, and chickens around! There was also a fire-pit outside which looked very inviting. My husband and I visited OMC last week. He had the brisket platter and I had the Pitmaster sandwich. My sandwich was very good and my husband said his brisket was good. All the sides - bleu cheese potato salad, poblano corn and mac & cheese were some of the best we've ever had in a bbq restaurant. We sat at the bar and Sydney was great, very friendly and attentive. Okay Duluth! It is popping over here, what a great location! The ambiance outside with the seating and fire pits - so cute! The restaurant is huge, and I love the decor, make sure to check out the bar it is awesome! I was overwhelmed by all of the options on the menu but ended up choosing the "ZIPPITY DO DAH" (sp) pulled pork, pepper jack cheese and pickled jalapeños. It seems like everyone who stops in Duluth has been screaming from the rooftops about this place. On a Sunday afternoon on our way through town we made sure to make this a priority. We heard it was busy, and to be on a wait at 3:30pm on a Sunday afternoon, I'd say everyone was right. We got on the wait list and headed over to Bent Paddle Brewery, just a block or so away to grab a beer while we waited. Our table was ready within 20 mins and we headed back and got a nice booth. We started with the sangria, complimentary pork rinds and the jalapeño poppers. All were very good. We then decided on the OMC plate, and added the pork, so we could have a sampling of each meat offered. As for sides, we got the corn, sweet potatoes and potato salad. I absolutely love that they provide all their sauces on the table for sampling. My favorite was the white sauce, but all were fantastic. The only reason I'm giving this place a 4 instead of a 5 is because of the service. The service was downright annoying. Every time food was dropped off at our table it seemed like a massive event, followed up by 15 seconds later our server coming over and asking how it was and if he could get us anything else. Every single time I had not even had time to have a sip or a bite yet and the timing just seemed to be so annoying and forced. The server also seemed to not be able to hear very well or just wasn't paying attention because when we would say "we are ok" or "looks good" he would almost scream "WHAT?!". Our favorite place is Duluth. This is per of the revamped West End district that has some incredible eateries, coffee and as an eclectic fun feel. In the summer they had an outdoor patio and inside have a cool space with a walk up bar. They are good about social distancing and taking precautions so for those afraid have no fear. The meats are amazing. You can get plates or entrees with fantastic sides and they have some of areas best beers and drinks for the whole family. We tried the brisket, pulled pork and chicken for the kids and everything we tried was delicious. I am a potato salad guy and my wife wanted elote and fries are always well recovered by our whole crew. The pulled pork is some of the best in state and this place is the type of restaurant that makes you excited to eat out. This was my second time back at OMC Smokehouse and it's a great restaurant to try in Duluth. This time I got the OMC smoked burrito bowl, hibiscus mint tea, and French fries for an appetizer. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the fryer letting me know that the French fries are fried separately but in a fryer next to other items so there's a chance of cross contamination. I had all 3 items and did not get sick due to my celiac. The burrito bowl was huge and I was unable to finish it all in one sitting! During the summer this restaurant can be quite busy but after Labor Day during the week we didn't have a problem getting in. Since OMC Smokehouse (oink moo cluck) opened in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Duluth I have been dying to make a trip up for some Minnesota style BBQ. And with a name like that, who could resist?! A tight yet warm a space gives you the feel of a tradition BBQ joint. As you walk in you are greeted by the host and the one first thing I noticed was a basket of pre made s'mores ingredients. Now, I'm not sure if that is for coming or going so I may have grabbed a pack on the way in and out! The menu is decent size and everything sounds amazing. It's hard to make a decision as you see the dishes being served to other tables and all the wonderful smells that fIll the room. The server brought of a basket of pork rinds for the table to share while we made our decisions. I went with the spiciest thing I could find on the menu because I love spicy. The Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich. I will tell you what, this sandwich packs some heat. I would give it a 7/10 on the spice scale. Personally I felt the sandwich was just drenched in a dusting of Cayenne pepper. I did say I love it hot and maybe the waitress called for more than usual. Either way the chicken was a huge all white breast that was juicy on the inside and extra crispy on the outside. You couldn't ask for much more. The sandwich came with a side of fries which were a touch on the soggy side. I am excited for my next trip to Duluth. OMC will undoubtably be on my list to visit again. read more

So.... In my first review of Duluth's OMC I promised I and my family would be back. Well, we returned today and brought our EXTENDED family. Now my family is loud and fun but as soon as the food arrived we all sat in silent reverence as we savored this food. I'm NOT KIDDING. This was recommended by one of my coworkers who grew up in Duluth and has family up there. The hours are a bit difficult to make it but we made a point to dedicate our dinner there during our 2 days up in Duluth. The brisket was nice and fatty and tender, the ribs were super tasty, we loved all the sides and the spicy bbq sauce was my favorite. I was not able to try one of the sauces due to being gluten free, but they were super helpful when I worried about grabbing the same sauce bottles as my gluten eating family and then eating with my hands for the ribs and getting higher risks of cross contamination. Two things before I go into my little love story about OMC Smokehouse: A) I love love LOVE bbq & 2) I'm always on the hunt for mind-blowing BBQ joints. OMC Smokehouse was impressive all around, and I can say without a doubt in my mind that it is one of the best BBQ places in Minnesota. We have stumbled upon treasure near the shores of Lake Superior, and cannot wait until the next time we are there again. I am from the Twin Cities, and rarely make the drive up to Duluth. For my partner and I's one year, we wanted an exceptional meal that wasn't too "froo froo fancy" but would include food we both love to eat - of course the choice was BBQ. I heard about OMC from a few friends of mine who live up in Duluth, and decided it sounded like exactly what we would want for dinner on a Monday night. We called in beforehand to let them know we'd be coming in, and they put us on the short waitlist. Upon arriving, we were asked to wait for a moment for the next available table, but we were only outside by the fire for about 5 min before they texted us that our table was ready. As our server was walking us back, we couldn't help but be in awe at how big the space actually is once we were inside! It does not look as spacious from the outside street view, but they have plenty of room the further you go back, if you're looking to cater to a group of 4-6 people! My boyfriend and I ordered the Sliced Beef Brisket (8 oz for $25) and added an ala carte 1/4 chicken ($5) and 2 dry rub ribs ($3.50 per rib). For the sides, we chose the collard greens ($5) and the beef fat fries ($2). The seasonal drinks were too tempting not to try, so I got the apple cider mimosa to sip on. So cute and refreshing! There were four sauce options at the table, but the food was so incredible on its' own that I ate most of it without sauce! We loved everything that came out; our mutual favorite was the beef brisket - so juicy and melted in your mouth, but the chicken was also a stand out. I have not had chicken that tender and flavorful at a restaurant in awhile! I have never had beef fat fries before, but I can see what all of the commotion is about - they were phenomenal. Our waitress was courteous and we didn't wait that long at all for the food. I loved the interior of OMC; the COVID-friendly glass between all of the big booths were a nice touch and the bar is beautiful. My "mission accomplished" visit to Duluth had one primary objective and one secondary objective: * Primary - Visit friend * Secondary - Consume food from OMC Smokehouse OMC's outdoor dining area looked like the place to be but when I ventured inside to pick up my to-go order the smoky aromas were alluring. Pre-winter, I'd still choose to dine al fresco but I might be inclined to step inside on the regular, to drink in that scent. Placing an online order here was initially confusing then suddenly exciting. I like when places offer me lots of things I construe as "free" and here at OMC I was literally in hog heaven. I chose St. Louis Style Ribs, Beef Brisket, and Pulled Pork but grew more excited by, first, the choice of sides that accompany the BBQ and next by the variety of BBQ sauces to choose from. I pretty much sampled everything I could which should be read as: * Cheesy Jalapeño Grits, Collard Greens, Mac & Cheese, and OMC Beans. There's additional sides but this seemed like a highly adequate assortment; and * Chipotle-Cilantro BBQ Sauce, Classic Honey BBQ Sauce, Bent Paddle 14° ESB BBQ (a Carolina-style mustard-based sauce), and Alabama White BBQ with a horseradish zippiness; and * Jalapeño Brisket Bombs ($10) which the menu incented me to try with this admonition: "Get 'em while they last". If you can resist Brisket and BBQ-seasoned cream cheese stuffed jalapeños topped with cranberry-rhubarb jam you're made of different stuff than me. Try convincing me I wasn't happy. It won't work. Whenever I travel, I always try to hit the best BBQ place in a town and I found it in Duluth. I got the ribs and wings plate. What the ribs lacked in meat, they made up for in flavor. And the wings were seasoned and cooked so well, with the mustard sauce a great touch on top. Corn and beans were terrific sides. Great BBQ with excellent service right near Downtown Duluth! We started with the Pork Belly Lettuce Wraps which were phenomenal. This was the BEST pork belly I have ever eaten, accompanied with a nice mix of corn, bacon, and a few other ingredients to cap off an excellent starter. Up next we had the OMC Wings. They were just alright. It almost felt like they needed a sauce of their own besides just dipping them in ranch. To cap off the meal, I had the brisket and dry rub ribs. The ribs were very good, and given a bevy of BBQ sauce selections at your table, you can customize them to your liking. I personally liked them with the standard Honey BBQ. The brisket was very tender and smoked just right. These I preferred with the Chipotle Cilantro (with a hint of rhubarb) and the Alabama White. Both were great examples of good barbecue flavor! Lastly, the sides. The sweet potato bake is awesome. The beef fat fries with malt vinegar aioli bring a whole new flavor to French fries. Service was fantastic even on a very busy night.
