Awful service. Waitress insulted a member of our party, and never even served him his food. When the manager asked how everything was, we explained the incident. His response: "It was miscommunication." That was all....... no apologies, no gift card, nothing..... In what world is this ok? Yeah, it's "Greek"~ except that it's mostly American with a Greek section on the menu. The overall setting is beautiful, the entryway large and very classy. It's a bit confusing because it's obviously a place you have to wait to be seated but there is no sign designating where to wait or to even do so. The prices are a bit steep if you're just looking for a quick bite ($2.55 for two eggs. Really.) but if you want a nice sit down, then this is a perfect place. Just get ready to pay for it. Another good Greek diner, we stopped in around 5:30 on a Wednesday and had immediate seating. My Wife is a southside Polaki and has been going there for years, Sunday brunch is usually hard to get in without a wait. She had salmon and rice with veggies and found it rather good, my beef burrito plate was good, and a generous portion. The breadbasket was good, but not outstanding. She said her baklava was ok. For the price:quality:quantity equation it was a good meal, but there are better venues for the theme in the region, so I could not give it all four stars. Placed a to go order. Picked it up and used my debit card. I thought it was odd the price I was charged so much higher than the price I was told over the phone. Looked at my receipt before I had signed it and "the owner" put a huge tip on for herself without even asking me. Call me crazy but I don't typically tip $8 on a $28 to go order. When I brought it to her attention of course she got an attitude. Cancelled the original charge and placed a new one. Then got an even bigger attitude when I told her I wanted receipts of the voided charge. Now onto the food. The corned be hash was burnt and looked like cat food. Worse than out of the can. So much for "homemade" like the menu states. The toast. I asked for white...I got two pieces of white, one piece of wheat, and one RAW piece of wheat. The other meal was steak and eggs. Stopped in for a quick dinner. Wide variety of foods and reasonable prices. Ordered the 8 oz New York special med rare. Came with rolls, salad, potato , mushrooms & a couple onion rings on the steak. Steak was cooked right and very tasty. Rolls hot and crispy! Salad unremarkable, maybe add croutons and a couple other veggies? Potato was baked but seemed old or reheated in a microwave. Ordered two fish fries for takeout while it was closed for COVID-19. They were well organized, my food was ready when I arrived, it stayed hot on the way home, and the portions were very generous, enough for leftovers. The bread tasted very fresh, the soup was also fresh-tasting. I think they changed the recipe for coleslaw because it was very creamy and delicious. My boyfriend and I ordered from Omega via Doordash. He got a Polar Bear waffle, and I got blueberry blintzes. When we got our delivery, we were pleasantly surprised that they packed each of the toppings for our waffle and blintzes individually, so we could add them ourselves instead of allowing the various sauces to make our food soggy in transit. Very good way to pack food for delivery. And the food was delicious. I will be coming here in the future to try their other food offerings - the breakfast was great, so I'm sure their dinners are as well! read more

I think there is a definite distinction of breakfast joints and brunch places. For brunch I want something fancier and I want a mimosa or bloody mary to go with it. Breakfast is normally the result of being hungover or in a hurry and I just want some grub/coffee stat. Omega is my breakfast joint. This is mostly because it's the diner that's closest to my house. That being said, for what I want it for, it does very good. The service is fast and friendly. You will never have an empty coffee cup while you're there. The breakfast specials are decently priced. Even when there is a wait, it doesn't take very long. The food is diner fare but nowhere near as greasy as George Webb's. Yes if you get an omelet with mushrooms, they will be canned mushrooms, but sometimes after a rough Friday night an American cheese/canned mushroom omelet is exactly what I need. The pancakes are pretty decent too. I often take advantage of one of the combos that has both savory & sweet. Here are my tips: 1. Ask for a booth. The tables in the middle can be crowded and you'll have a much more peaceful time at a booth. 2. Order the greek toast for your toast option. I normally do wheat, but there's something about the thick cut, sesame seed topped greek toast that makes this diner experience complete. 3. They have egg beaters and I don't think charge extra for them so if you're like me and like to pretend that you can have a little element of healthy in your meal, it's an option. read more

We had to make an extended stay at St. Luke's hospital and noticed Omega was always busy. When we had a free hour this afternoon (Saturday Feb 18) we stopped in for lunch. The first thing we noticed was how dirty the front doors were. However, we ignored it. After ordering, i had to use the men's room. On the way there, you make this little jaunt through a prep area. The floors were sticky. The men's room was filthy. And I mean disgusting even for a men's room. Upon my return, my wife asked about the state of the restrooms. I told her. We figured with the really dirty front doors, the sticky floors and the filthy restrooms, the kitchen probably wasn't any better. We left. On the way out we were asked for money by not one, not two but three beggars who were standing right in front of the dirty doors - on restaurant property. So not only is the place filthy, you get accosted for desert. There are lots of options near the hospital. Eat at Omega and you just might find yourself checking into St. Luke's as a patient. We went there on feb 14th , 2017 at 8pm. We had to ask for water We had to ask for bread. No bread refill offered. Reuben Sandwich was good, although it needed much more thousand island. The waitress could not pronounce " lentl" as a soup instead said "lyntel" to which i had to correct her to "lentl" ..to which she repliead " yeah, yeah, dat one". The waitress forgot our appetizer and then tried to blame the kitchen for preparing our entrees first which she just brought out to the table without asking us first if we still wanted our appetizer! My sandwich came on a plate with no fries ( which I had ordered ) then when j asked for fries ...cold ones were brought to me. She placed the wrong entrees in front of the wrong people. Had to ask for hot fries, which came yo me in a soup bowl!. We had a guest come to join us to which we informed the waitress of. She brought no menu or extra setting to the table for our guest. She Never offered dessert but was very quick to offer us the bill as it was clear she was in a rush to leave Overall, a terrible dining experience due to the classless service she provided. I would be hard pressed to ever go back again. I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE!! I gave it one star simply because in order to leave a review I had to give it at least one star. It deserves 0! I spent a lot of time preparing for this review by trying to figure out what would cause the sizable community of Milwaukee Greeks to emigrate here and start businesses, but I realized the answer to that question was the same opportunity that caused the Polish, German, and Italians come here. The question I should have been asking is why the enterprising Greeks of pre-World War I largely found their niche in restaurants, coffee shops, and confectionaries. Of course, the answer here is equally mundane - an unfamiliar language and an admirable work ethic made the Greek diner and the Greek coffee shop numerous and plentiful in certain parts of the country. Parts of the country that aren't this far west, anyway. The Cream City is thankfully quite a ways away from New York, but as a result our Greek restaurants have dwindled to a few mainstays, the questionable gyro at your friendly neighborhood hot dog stand notwithstanding. Omega is another restaurant I visited countless times in my youth but didn't stop to consider until I left and realized that not all towns have a 24-hour Greek diner, much less two across the street from each other. Having never been to Zebb's (I assume the average south sider chose one side of Morgan Ave. long ago and sticks to it), I do have my theory as to why two extremely similar restaurants exist right next to each other: one started as a coffee shop, and one a restaurant. Over time, both grew to embrace the impossibly large menus of which they typify, though it would explain why one is fairly plain in presentation while the other is the gigantic, ornate, bright stereotype of Greece that is more commonly found in the Greek diners of the east coast. Appearances aside, it's this gigantic and impossible menu that has prevented me from returning for so long, with my nostalgic memories coming into direct conflict with the knowledge that any modern restaurant with a menu that large can't possible excel in at least half of the things they have on offer. Still, I wanted to give them a fighting chance, so I focused on the native stuff, particularly on the Greek Triple Combo, a menu item that I had trouble locating on the physical menu and of which the waiter was wholly unfamiliar until I pointed it out to her. With spanakopita, pastitsio, and gyro, plus pilaf, soup, and dessert, it was quite a bit of food, which, upon further consideration, is probably why we came here so often when I was younger. Aside from the pilaf - which was nothing other than a large mound of rice topped with their all-purpose chicken lemon gravy - the Greek plate wasn't a bad choice. plenty of crispy layers of phyllo and spinach on the spanakopita, and a serviceable though ordinary pastitsio, you ate it and could swear you were in an actual Greek restaurant, though we'd have to turn a blind eye from the beef vegetable soup and the stale breadbasket. Of more interesting note was the meal my dining companion ordered: the burger. Not very Greek, but a pretty common menu stalwart for the indecisive. Sure, they brandish that Certified Angus Beef logo around on all the promotional materials, but I was still surprised to have the waiter ask my fellow diner how he would like to have his burger cooked. After requesting it be cooked medium, it was even more surprising that the cook's disregarded this request and sent the burger out a solid rare. Not that we were upset about it - these things happen, and they were more than happy to send it back - but it was a pretty dang picturesque version of a rare burger. Had I known a little more about the sourcing of the meat, I would have been pretty jealous. As it was, the second attempt came back cooked through and it was otherwise forgotten about. Regardless, it's not what you expect to find here. My meal ended with a free piece of cake - a layered chocolate cake-cheese torte thing. Regardless of the impression they might give, the cakes nowadays are sourced from the Chicago Sweet Connection Bakery. It was dry, but it was also free, so I got my money's worth. I think it's telling that the diner counter from an earlier iteration of the restaurant still exists behind the bakery case and hostess stand, much further into the bowels of the restaurant than you would expect. It's also telling that the majority of the clientele that seem to frequent Omega seem more than a little tired, world-weary, and not of any particular disposition than what allows them to sip some coffee and eat some eggs in peace. The sadder the schlubs become, the sharper the contrast between the sad faces and the impossibly bright lights that reveal every corner of this restaurant. For whatever state of misery has befallen the sweatpants-clad masses that sit in the booths, there's still a family of proprietors that stand proudly in the front wearing French cuff shirts, ready to greet you, take your ticket, and ensure that everything coming out of the kitchen meets a standard far higher than anyone expects. read more

It was the worst! Ordered takeout... leg of lamb with mashed potatoes. The lamb was dried out, and even burnt at the edges, chunks of fat everywherr, and in the mashed potatoes were large chunks of raw potato. It came with soup, so I opted for the cream of turkey rice. When i opened it, it was as thick as glue paste, and it was still warm. Will NEVER eat here again! Expensive and total garbage! Found Pubic hair on my egg product omelette. I went here years ago and ordered a breakfast to go. Got off work early and decided it would be nice to have a breakfast from Omega. What I found to be so appealing was the the *two inch pubic hair* stretched across my egg product omelette. Went back to the register and showed them what i fortunately discovered. He said he would take care of it. Waited to get my refund and they were so nice remake my breakfast. I waited 15 minutes and I never asked for them to remake it like I definitely trust what's coming to me now. So finally more wasted time more time and they refunded me. As I was leaving I looked at the so called cooks in the back had the feeling they knew what they did. Like you can't see black on top of a yellow fake omelette. I must say luckily I was more of a passive individual back then. I probably would of broken someone's face in. Our family used to eat there all the time. We've been here about 8 times, as we live about 6 blocks away. It is always busy, no matter the time of day. The last time I went for breakfast, I ordered eggs and bacon. The bacon was barely cooked - I could practically see through it. My waitress never came back to check on me, or I would have asked for it to be remedied. I ended up wrapping it up and taking it home to microwave it. After all, I did pay for it! When we went for a fish fry, I asked for the rosamarina soup and got the clam chowder. It was thick and gloppy. The fish was really good, though, with hot, fresh French fries. YUM I went for breakfast once and orderd the chicken fried steak - there was actually chicken breast inside a very crispy, tasty crust. Very good.
