    Mission accomplished!

I really like On the Farm, it's a place I have been coming to for years. I prefer this spot over Guptills, which is the other local favorite. I mostly like coming here for ice cream, but they have some nice and reasonably priced fast food style meal items. I purchased a kiddie and medium twist on my recent trip, the total was $6.70. I'd say that amount is about average. The ice cream was very creamy and delicious. Even a little bit better than Kurver. There is ample amount of seating outdoors, both covered by awning and out in the sun. Great spot for a frozen treat during the short NY summers!

Strawberry shortcake sundae no whip cream

This is a cute place with nice seating. I was a little disappointed with my sundae. I asked for no whipped cream and it came with it anyways. I pointed it out to the girl at the window and she seemed annoyed. She asked if she could just scrape it off and I told her that's fine. The biscuit portion isn't homemade but just your typical dessert shell which was still frozen when served. The strawberries were good and a nice portion but seemed to be the usual restruant supply strawberries and also were still partial frozen when served. It wasn't a complicated sundae but seemed to have issues in several areas. On a positive they do offer the trending caramel volcano cone that a lot of people are talking about lately.

    Surprisingly tasty grilled chicken sandwich.

I'm still not that into soft serve. But I still consider On the Farm to be the best-in-class locally for the stuff. Seriously, as much as I drive around the Capital Region looking for the very best versions of the stuff, there's only so far I'm willing to go on a regular outing for soft serve. When my brother-in-law came visiting earlier this summer, and brought his family, this was the perfect place to take a gaggle of hungry kids. Not just for ice cream, but for food as well. While I had never tried the food before, I had heard encouraging noises. The burger looked delicious: greasy and cheesy in all the best possible ways. One of the kids ordered grilled cheese, and that too was delightfully golden. So many grilled cheese sandwiches are rushed and get toasted only in the center. But this one was beautiful. I'm on a diet, so begrudgingly I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, and prepared for the worst. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty the thin chicken cutlet was in the sandwich. Even the veg was bright and lively. My wife's fish fry was not quite as good. And I can't say I was crazy about under-seasoned french fries. Yes, there is salt at the window. However, fries are always best when tossed with salt immediately out of the oil. Is it perfect? Nope. Is it excellent? You bet. Maybe there are better places further away. Maybe they are even worth the trip. But for my money, and for the happiness it brings the kids, On the Farm is my summertime staple.

A very popular drive-in restaurant serving ice cream treats (waffle cones, cups, sundaes, shakes, malts, floats, & flurries) and hot food (burgers, hot dogs, steak sandwiches, fish frys, clam rolls, & chicken tenders). Hershey's hard ice cream and Pepsi fountain drinks are served here. The food and ice cream here are pretty good. Especially on the weekends, the wait in line can take a while since there is only one order window and one pickup window. Ample picnic table seating available nearby.

Looked good ..but didn't last long. Ice cream soup in the making! :-(

On an exploration to find the best soft serve ice cream in the area, I bookmarked On The Farm. I was interested in trying it as a dipped cone after seeing a few delicious looking photos from some friends. We went as a group of 5 expecting some awesome ice cream. Sad to say, those who had the hard ice cream thought that the flavors were overly sweet and said it would be more kid friendly. A friend and I had the vanilla soft serve with cake batter dip and the vanilla soft serve with chocolate dip. By the time the dipped cones were handed over to us at the pick up window, it already began to melt. Within 3 minutes time my cone was melted down to ice cream soup...meaning a large puddle of vanilla on the table I sat at. Not only my dipped cone had that effect but also my friend's. I'd say only 25% of the actual ice cream made it to my mouth. The cake batter and chocolate dip was also very thin. We left disappointed and wanted to go elsewhere to satisfy our sweet tooth. I'm not sure what went wrong but that poor ice cream just went to feed the table and the ground. We were the only people at the stand on a weekday around 1pm. If you do go here, take advantage of the Yelp check in offer of 10% off ice cream order! Service was quick and they had no problems taking the Yelp offer but I'm hoping they'll get it right if I do end up coming back and giving it another chance.

Finally stopped by here. Didn't see flavors on their website so I took some pics. They sell Perry's ice cream from western NY (Buffalo, Akron areas). We got a punch card for future visits

I tried On the Farm for the first time today. While the soft serve vanilla ice cream was good, that was about it. I ordered a medium vanilla cone with rainbow sprinkles. $5.00! I feel like that's pricey for one cone. THEN, I am handed the smallest medium I've ever seen & it looks like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. In my opinion, that's unacceptable. I've had just as good, if not better ice cream for cheaper. Will not return.

A regular fries and a drink brought the total to around $27 (!). Food was ready in about 5 minutes (they give you a light-up device so you don't have to wait in line) and we took it to our table. I have eaten at another location and knew what to expect. The burger was very good, though also greasy. I like thin, crispy burgers and they do it well though despite the handy paper handle to hold it with your fingers will get very messy. My son absolutely loved his burger too. The fries were much better than what I had experienced at their other location. These seemed pre-cut, perhaps pre-frozen, and coated in cornstarch. The top of the container were nice and crispy though they got soggy as you went down. I wish they arranged them flat on a plate, which might keep their texture better (though result in them getting colder faster). All in all, I like this place. Their prices are very steep for the small burgers you get, but they are high quality. So, I dunno. I can't come here more than for special occasions but when I do I think I will just stick with the burgers and skip the fries.

Chipotle used to be something I got frequently. Too frequently. I have since cut back my visits…read morequite substantially, but this remains my go-to location, mainly because it's the easiest to access from my home. I've also generally had better luck here than at any of the other Albany area locations. The food? Standard Chipotle. Usually fresh and full of flavor. The hot salsa is something unlike any other salsa I have had, smooth and almost like a great hot sauce. Prices are on the higher side and the amount of food you get depends entirely on the person making it. A few steps above Taco Bell and a step above Moe's. The line staff here ranges from great to mediocre, but the manager is wonderful and has helped to make things right whenever I have run into issues. This location gets busy. Very busy. Come here at a peak meal time and it can be hard to get a seat. A line stretching to the door is not rare and, because it's so busy, cleanliness can suffer. On the other hand, the high volume means that food is generally fresh and stuff rarely sits on the steam table for long. If having to wipe a little rice off the table is the price I pay for having meat that literally just came off the grill, so be it.

First we had to stop ordering online because we would never get our order filled correctly. We could still go there and get the options we were looking for, it would just take a little longer. Now though, it's messed up. The food itself seems to still be quality, but man, the customer service and portioning and attention to the order requests are terrible. We can go here anymore, chipotle isn't cheap and we can just throw away money on dinner after dinner hoping it'll be better. This has been every experience in the last 6 months. So sad.

Since I already paid for my food, I drove to the first window and tapped on the glass to ask what was going on. A woman came to the window and without opening it, she waved me away with her hand. I tapped on the glass again, and a man came to the window and said he didn't speak English. The same woman who tried to wave me off before came back over and said the manager and front staff didn't show up. I said if they're not serving anyone, I would like a refund. She said I had to come back when the manager was there and I asked when that would be and she said she just shrugged. She said I would just have to come back and try again (?) I said that doesn't work for my schedule or probably anybody else's, and I once again requested a refund and she said "that's not my problem." I'm always very polite all retail and food workers, as I've done both jobs. That being said, this specific location needs to fire that woman at the very least and retrain the rest of the staff on how to handle customer service properly. I'm guessing they lost quite a few customers that day from their lack of proper planning and ability to communicate.

A trip to their website showed me that Tex's is a NYC chain. Reviews compare them to Popeye's,…read morebecause of their fried chicken. But because they also serve burgers, I think a comparison to Roy Rogers is more appropriate (minus the fixin's bar I really liked). (Side note: There are no more Roy Rogers in New York State, they're only in Mid-Atlantic states at this point). The restaurant is tiny, with about 5 booths and a few small tables, but when I came in for lunch, it was immaculate. My first meal here was a chicken combo, spicy, with cole slaw. I really like their chicken; their spicy chicken has exactly the right amount of heat and flavor that I want. It's also extra, extra, crispy. I feel sorry for those who have to clean up after anyone who eats in, because there will be lots of batter flakes all over the place. And there's no sporks, it's all plastic forks, knives, and spoons. And now, for the picky stuff: You get a slightly larger amount of cole slaw than at similar restaurants. But the chop is finer, and there's more mayonnaise, so for me, it was too mushy. I probably won't order it again, instead I'll check out other sides. The biscuit was fluffy and less salty than at other places, but it was slightly dry, probably having been under a heat lamp for a while. The combo includes a fountain drink, from a smaller, older-style Coke dispenser for which there are only 6 options, one of them being sweetened iced tea. Unsweetened ice tea was not available as far as I could tell, so if that's true, your only unsweetened option is water, out of the dispenser or bottled. I found it amusing to see, in big letters under the counter, "We cook fresh all day," with about 3 dozen pieces of chicken under heat lamps in the back. Just how often during the day do you cook fresh? The bathroom was clean, but the dispensers were out of soap and paper towels. This is not a good thing for a place serving fried chicken. And it was only about 75 minutes into the day when I was there, I would find it hard to believe it was all used up in 75 minutes. More likely, it was never restocked at the start of the business day. C'mon, you can do better. This is easy to fix. I'll definitely be back if only for the chicken, but I do intend to try the burgers and also the other sides. If those are as good as the chicken, and the beverage and bathroom stuff gets better, I'll add more stars to a revised review for sure.
