Parking in K-Town is usually challenging but there's an underground parking area clearly marked for Ondal Crab House and there's some street parking too. We went as a table of 4 and booked a couple days in advance and we're seated immediately. Menu/food/beverage: We were there for the uni rice and raw marinated crab but the interesting and varied menu meant we ordered more. Uni rice (large size, HUGE urchins) is a must, served to the brim and drizzled with some sauce before mixing gently and self scooped. Sweet, fresh, luxurious. The addition of soy marinated shrimp is a great value too. The raw marinated female crab came with two and were meaty and eggy, be sure to order portions of rice to stuff the shell and get all the flavors. The dough soup seafood stew is excellent and kept hot at your table on the stovetop. The seafood pancake is crispy, hot, and packed with chunks of fresh seafood, one of the best we've had. The banchan is fresh and well seasoned too, not too sweet. Service: The whole time the lady helping us was wonderful. Helpful with the menu, providing us gloves for eating, laughing as we reacted to the beautiful platters of food, hand-tearing fresh dough for the dough seafood stew, cutting every bit of the marinated crab for easy access. We used to go the now closed Ondal in Washington and I've been literally craving their spicy beef stew. Parking is hard to find in this side of town but we decided to go anyway. Im giving 2 stars because the worker was nice, that's it. Definitely look at other options for seafood ESPECIALLY for the soy sauce marinated crab and uni bowl the marinated crabs were sooo salty me and my friends had a headache, and it also had a bitter aftertaste. The uni bowl was bad, definitely not fresh. It had an outer brown shell, which means it wasn't fresh it was supposed to be dark purple/black, and the uni itself was so slimy :( also it was really expensive like 4 thin pieces of short ribs were $47, like it wasn't even enough for 1 person. The best part about their crab is that you get the high quality crab for a reasonable price, unlike some other more popular establishments in the same area. I've been here twice and the food is consistent. Along with the marinated crab, the monk fish stew is also a great choice. The small portion is plenty for 2 people to share with leftovers if you order more than 1 dish. Don't forget that you also get banchan! I love their food, especially the beef stew. I've been to 2 locations in LA and one location in Garden Grove. Food quality is always superb! The portion is huge. We ordered the regular size beef stew, which they said was good for only 2 people. Thought it wouldn't be enough so we ordered a seafood pancake too. Turn out four of us couldn't finish it. The leftovers were good for another breakfast and dinner haha. Their beef stew is a MUST! I've been to many Korean restaurants, and have only seen this dish in another restaurant in Rowland Highs. Also, when you are done with white rice, ask for ramen. And if you're still hungry afterwards, ask for their fried rice, they will make fried rice with whatever left in your pot. The server ladies are very nice and attentive. The only one downside is the parking :(. They have free valet parking right under the restaurant, but there aren't many spots. Took my mom for her bday and we have different opinions! My mom preferred the spicy raw crab because she didn't enjoy the unusual flavoring of the soy! I personally really enjoyed the soy marinated crab because it tastes like they used star anise in the marinade! I feel that it added an extra depth of flavor and probably helped with any fishy smell. All people will know Korean foods that are always served with white rice or brown rice. Yesterday I ordered octopus with short rib and JUST BY ITSELF. No rices at all. I have been coming here several times and it went down day by day. There was a few customer for 5 or 6 servers so the working load was light. They were supposed to go around and check if customer was ok or not. No-one walked to my table and asked that. Most importantly, DEMANDING TIPS. I paid by card and tip by cash. I put 1 bill of $5 and 3 bills of $1. The lady pulled my friend back and asked for more tips. That was very SHAMEFUL, DIRTY and DISGUSTING behavior. Guys! Tip is a compliment for your service not customers have to pay that for you. I have the rights not to tip you if i am not happy with the service. I think $8 was too much for your dirty behavior. It's such a misleading advertisement (I started following them on IG several months ago, because they seemed so good). I traveled all the way from Colorado to take my sister here for her belated birthday celebration because she loves uni and crab. The first disappointment was being informed that uni was unavailable; next, the crab we ordered was nothing like what was shown in the video--it was extremely small, so I ordered another one and they turned out to be overly salty. The agoo chim (아구찜) we ordered contained only a few pieces of fish and mostly bean sprouts. Even their side dishes (반찬) were excessively salty, with the salad being the only decent item. I wish I had taken photos of what we were actually served. Ironically, I did enjoy their rice, likely because we usually eat brown and grain rice at home for health reasons, and I was also very hungry. I don't mind spending money or even paying significantly more when the food quality is excellent and tasty (especially on this special occasion once a year for her b-day), but I feel deeply disappointed and deceived. First time here, SO GOOD. First of all, the crab is huge and packed with meat. The soup is super refreshing, you can also choose the level of spiciness to your liking. I've been craving spicy haemuljjim(assorted seafood steam/boil)for awhile and this is the only place I go to whenever I come to LA. Yesterday I got take out and the service was awesome. I tried to call to place an order for pick up but the line was busy so I just decided to do a walk-in order. There weren't any customers which made ordering quick. After you order they tell you to park in the hotel parking lot so they could bring the food out to you once it's ready. I ordered the large haemuljjim(which never disappoints), their flavor is always consistent and on point especially when it comes to salt level to how much spicer I want it. For that reason I continue to come here and order the same thing. I'm also not a big fan of Korean crabs(because they are too small!) and in soup versions. So there was another reviewer who posted about not having their crab cut in a certain manner, well if you got scissors at home then you can do it yourself. The reason I brought this up was because in the haemuljjim it comes with an assorted array of seafood: a whole Korean crab(similar to the blue crab), a lot of big shrimps, a few mussels, scallops and monk fish, a whole squid and a whole nakji[I guess a teenage octopus--it's not the those big octopus or the baby ones either it's a medium sized one], along with these small weird looking things that are of the sea squirt family called miduhduk, and of a lot of bean sprouts. My squid and octopus came whole which I don't mind because it was a take out(I have two capable hands, a scissor and tongs to cut them to however size at home)and usually when you dine at the restaurant they cut it for you. Along with the take out they gave us a bottle of iced shikhye which I did not expect cause they usually give it to you at the end when dining in. That made my 1hr and half drive back to Santa Barbara awesome. I will admit I've never tried their crab soup all these other people seem to be disappointed about. That's mostly because their haemuljjim is a lot superior when it come to sheer size and flavor. Ooooh aside for coming with assorted banchans, it also came with kimchijeon(kimchi pancake). It was sooo good I ALMOST did not give any to my wife. A lot of the times when other Korean restaurants give you some sort of pancake along with their banchan it is usually lacking in flavor or bland. Coming here several times their pancake whether it be the veggie kind or kimich(which actually had a lot of kimichi in it, other places just use the juice and add about two slices) has always been on point. Their fried rice after the main course is my favorite even after being full of sea creatures, it's so addicting. Since it was a take out it would end up being DIY, which is not hard(just use the seafood and veggies you couldn't finish, add rice and other accoutrements to your liking and TADAAA!) Too bad being in Santa Barbara I can't get this kinda seafood I want here so whenever I need to go to the Korean I stop by here whenever I crave haemuljjim. read more

DELICIOUS crab soup. I was a little hesitant because of the number of bad reviews here but we had an amazing meal. We ordered the crab soup for two and the crab was so tender and soft, Melt in your mouth. They also give you a bunch of side dishes. You can also add soojaebi and fried rice at the end as additional options/charges. The peeling is street parking. You can't park in the hotel lot unfortunately. We got lucky with parking in the neighborhood. The ladies who were serving us were so sweet and nice. We will certainly come back next time we're craving a hot, clean, spicy soup. read more
