The salad was so fresh with romaine lettuce, carrots and cucumbers, topped with BBQ chicken and a side of delicious dressing..YUM. The orange chicken was a bit crispy smothered in a wonderful orange sauce. The BBQ chicken fried rice was moist not dry with bits of chicken and kamaboko....to die for. Five star in my book and if we started with this restaurant on our eat-fest we would have had to stop eating before finishing. I think best value for plate lunch/chinese, and I would have only wanted to eat here if it was the start of our trip. I arrived at around 3pm on a Saturday, expecting to be kind of slow time, but it was busy. Catering order after catering order. You know what that tells me? Either the food is really good here, or they have super good value. In my book, that's definitely a winner mate. So the menu is huge. And seeing how they have several full catering sections they must be reliable as well. I had no idea what to order and a huge queue built up after me as I was deciding - so but I just needed some garlic chicken . I also wanted to try some chicken katsu and my kiddies wanted noodles of course. So instead of buying for the house noodle as a side sub, I regretfully ordered a full house noodle order as well. Well...those three boxes became late lunch + late dinner for us. The katsu portion was great, crispy even after transport, it was thin, but several pieces, served with a katsu sauce. After having one piece though, I think I could have used some additional variety. (Little did I know when I initially ordered that they allow mixing of entrees for the plates to accomplish just that). I think it was dark meat so was moist. The house noodle was not as greasy as I thought it would be. I was actually craving some greasy noodles, so a bit disappointed in that. It did have some char siu pieces mixed in. I should have asked for some chili oil, because it needed something else. The garlic chicken had good flavor, nicely seasoned. I think they used thigh meat as well so it was moist. I told my wife, after picking up the heavy order of three full plates that I was super excited about this meal. One Plus One would be the first stop for me going fwd on the island for the great value and the good food. I need to try the rest of menu, and if I happen to be with 50 of my closest friends, I'll have to get one of those catering combination orders. Next time I'll definitely mix up the entrees per plate, and sub a side of noodles vs the macaroni and rice. More variety the better in a plate. Btw if eating alone, they have a mini portion which is about cheaper. read more

So many great things to say about One Plus One. 1- great for catering. Lots of menu options to choose from. Great tasting food. Reasonably sized portions and great prices! 2- consistent in service, quality and taste. 3- very accommodating. They take same day party size orders (can't speak for large orders, but have ordered single pans in the same day). 4- punctual. When you provide a pick up time and it's confirmed on their end, more than likely your order will be ready at the confirmed time. I've never had to wait for a pick up order. 5- clean environment. Puts my mind at ease knowing that my food is being prepared in a clean establishment. read more

Decent quality, portions, consistency and pricing when compared to other similar establishments especially nowadays. Good customer service never had issues any real issues with them given the numerous times weve ordered with them only one or two minor mix ups but they always made up for it even though i told them not necessary! Ordered mixed plate for 15.25 & house noodles for 12.50. The mixed plate was good, lots of meat. Beef curry is good as well. House noodle was decent. Time for a update of this local mom & pop joint called - One Plus One Drive Inn located in the Moiliili neighborhood just across the street from the Moiliili Longs Drugs. To be honest, I haven't gone to - One Plus One Drive Inn for a very long time now, after that "pressed chicken katsu" incident from a plate I bought from them few years ago, but thanks to my Yelper friend - Sheri H. for sharing her insights about da Frrrrrrried Chicken wings at One Plus One, which motivated me to come back here to give it a try. Of course parking at this restaurant is a wee bit challenging, as the restaurant shares parking with a liquor store just next door. I tried coming to One Plus One several times, only to find either - no parking, or they were closed due to their modified hours probably due to the Covid-19 pandemic. I guess yesterday everything fell into place, because as I drove up to One Plus One, there was ample parking in the parking lot (in fact no one was there), so I parked my car & popped into the restaurant to get my wings. The menu is pretty extensive, but I knew what I wanted so I proceeded to order just a 10 piece wings for $10.95, plus the girl added a $1.00 for side order? I don't know what that charge was for, but I am assuming since I did not want rice & mac salad, than that was for the "up-charge"? I also ordered a plate of Beef Choy Sum stir fry for my pops, and of course besides paying the $11.25 for the plate, there was also an "upcharge" of $1.00 too. What can I say about the wings??? As advertised & endorsed by my friend Sheri H., the wings were excellent! Very good texture, not salty at all, and for 10 flat wings for $11.95..........I can live with that. Of course the Salt & Vinegar wings from Foodland...........I'm still addicted to that, plus the wings that Foodland serves I think it's on steroids, as those wings were waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more MASSIVE! At the risk of sounding like Goldilocks, I'm going to do a short version of what I thought of the food that I ordered: The garlic tofu eggplant was too spicy (for me). Today, I happened to be in town and I passed by One Plus One while I was doing an errand! Yay! Luckily, I had remembered the name of the restaurant because Sheryl's review was so funny! Like she mentioned, parking is a bit challenging. I kind of parked illegally on Coolidge Street, thinking that I'd be there for just a few minutes. It turned out alright! Whew! Inside the restaurant, the cashier was protected by an acrylic wall (reminds me of my working place). There's a microphone/speaker system so that you're not yelling at each other. In the back, there's a dine-in option, but I did takeout. My package of food appeared from behind a little locked window (just like my working place)! LOL! I'm so glad that I ordered three items. They all had great garlic flavors: spicy/sweet tofu eggplant (the sauce is so ono on da rice); savory, hearty pork chops; and buttery, tender salmon. A local joint that seems to do big party sized orders of food. When we arrived they were loading a couple of cars with huge trays of food. We ordered 3 different boxes, the house noodles, the garlic chicken and the chicken katsu. All 3 dishes were excellent. The portions are ginormous too. The chicken katsu had so much meat, at least 2 large pieces cut up. We will definitely have this location on the list for future visits. read more

On a recommendation went to OPO. To be fair I ordered the Lemon Chicken and not what was recommended to me. Also bought it at noon and had it for dinner. The plate lunch had a good amount of breaded chicken nuggets. Lemon sauce was watery and lack the lemon taste. The service was excellent. I will be back to try another dish. I recently attended a birthday party where all the food was catered from here. Man, I gotta say, it was absolutely delicious! I was amazed at how utterly amazing all the catered dishes were. We had Mochiko Chicken, House Noodles, Garlic Shrimp, and Teriyaki Steak. I, honestly, believe that they have the best garlic shrimp I have ever had. I couldn't believe how delicious and flavorful it was (I love garlic)! I went for 3rds and even had to give up my 4th serving to a family who arrived late, just so they could try it. The chicken was nicely fried, juicy, and flavorful. The noodles were cooked perfectly, had a great texture, and tasted phenomenal. I am definitely considering them for the next party we host. P.S. I had the Chicken Katsu with their Teri Chicken Fried Rice. For one thing, their plates are packed. My Chicken Katsu didn't have a lot of chicken, most of the pieces was kinda thin. My fried rice seemed dry. It could have been leftover from breakfast. My wife had the fish and Fried Rice. She said she liked her fish but her fried rice was also dry. We ordered Chicken Katsu and Teri Steak "pan kine" for grandsons birthday and broke the mouth! Not fatty and so Ono! They really pack the pan, so they're very generous with their portions. Thanks to Yelp, this place came up as a lunch spot along with several others after a morning at the beach. I don't think I ever would have stopped here or even seen it but since it is New Year's Day, many other places that are bigger, more convenient, and better marketed to people were closed. My hunger got the better of me and I decided I needed plate lunch and this was the only place open in the area. Thus, my first review of 2020 is now on. This place is not very visible. Signage from the street is not easy to see and the entry way is smallish. In addition, the dedicated "parking lot" is probably big enough for 4 cars comfortably between the 2 businesses at this address (the Drive Inn and a liquor store). If you were really strategic and a Jenga wizard, you could probably tuck in 6 or 7 cars but then you would need a crowbar to get them out. It is really tiny so good luck. I got the sense that a lot of customers are local from the neighborhood and just walk here. That was a revelatory sign for me. I am used to places like Rainbow Drive-Inn where cars come from all over because of proximity to the tourist district and their advertising campaign. This was a different animal. Clearly locals, no tourists, no advertising. Just a place for locals to gather and be fed a good plate lunch style meal. The menu is pretty diverse and I had a hard time deciding. There were a lot of standard plate lunch items (such as Hamburger Steak, Loco Moco, Mochiko Chicken, Beef Stew, etc.) and there were a lot of other items that were somewhat unexpected (such as cold Ginger Chicken, a Hawaiian Plate, and Spaghetti and Meatballs) and even snack bar types of items such as Hamburgers and French Fries. My group ended up with the Mochiko Chicken, Kim Chee Fried Rice, and House Fried Noodles. All were tasty and the portions were very large for the money. Be warned, that regular portions can easily feed 2 people. There is a small attached sit down dining room that is enclosed and air conditioned with the gratuitous dead cockroach on the outside step. Inside, the tables were clean, the floor was spotless and the chairs had tennis ball protectors to minimize the drag noise on the hard flooring when they are moved. I was impressed by the hard-working people manning the cramped kitchen and the counter. It is a tiny space and really looks like a family operation but I could tell that this is not easy money and really not easy work. But they clearly have a steady loyal stream of local customers and if I lived in the area, I would be one of them. So why does a hole-in-the-wall joint with bad visibility and tough parking get a highest rating from me? Because it is an outstanding representation of the authentic Hawaiian local dining genre. My biggest disappointment on my first visit here was the limited room I had in my gut so I could only order one thing. Plate Lunch is the thing here and they do it pretty well without a lot of fanfare, high visibility advertising, or celebrity chefs visiting to call attention to them. They feed their community and feed it well. So well, in fact, that it is now on my list of places to check out again when I am in the area. There are 2 chairs where customers can to sit and wait for order. On the right, there are 2 regular menus that are posted on the wall. On left of order window, a daily or special menu. My order was regular chicken katsu and mixed plate with of 2 pieces chicken, 1 piece kalbi, and 2 pieces of teri beef. The batter of chicken katsu is not too dark like other places. It's been a few years since I have eaten here but my friend recommended I eat here. I love garlic and chicken and so it was suggested that I sample their garlic chicken plate. Instead of rice I selected green salad, at no additional charge. I kept the Mac salad (because I am not trying to eat green salad with my plate lunch... Haahaa). Their garlic chicken plate was good. Parking is scarce so, if you're lucky enough to get one of the 4 stalls, great. If not, then you will have to resort to hunting for street parking. Better late than never I guess, but I dunno why I have never written a review for this plate lunch joint before. It's located on the corner of King and Coolidge with a very small shared parking lot in front. I usually call in my order and go during off peak times so it's never really been a problem for me, but if you're not so fortunate, you may need to park on the street. And shhh...but just between us, I think the owner(s) occupy a couple of the stalls because not only have I seen the same vehicle(s) on each visit, but I have also seen chili peppahs drying on the dash of one of them before. Hahaha! I had to do a double take. I was rolling :D My go-to eats here is the garlic chicken, the butter garlic salmon and the garlic basa. And not only do I appreciate that they have brown rice, but I also like that their tossed salad has romaine lettuce and not iceberg unless they run out. Not a hater but just a preference. Sans the tomato and it's even better! Yaaas! Me no likey tomatoes unless it's in a sandwich, cooked or pulverized into ketchup.
