The Kimchi fried rice was a miss for several people. When we ordered the chicken wings we were expecting crispy Korean fried chicken wings, nothing crispy about these. Our party ordered enough food for the karaoke room discount, but this wasn't automatically honored either unless we prompted.

At that point, we hadn't even touched the karaoke machine - just a quick explanation from the host. What we weren't told was that the time started while we were decorating. Had we known that, I definitely would've waited... because who uses paid time to decorate on purpose? Communication there was a big miss. The rooms are on the smaller side. Ours had a booth that says it fits 12. We had 7 and that felt perfect. I could see 9-10 working, but 12 would be very tight. Now the positives - the vibes and decor are fun and upbeat, and the staff is very attentive with food and drinks. There's a button you press if you need anything, and everything came out quickly. Most of the food was flavorful and spicy - the honey popcorn chicken was a crowd favorite. Drinks were unique, and I appreciated that they brought water carafes right away. The karaoke setup runs through YouTube, which means a lot of commercials you have to manually skip - kind of kills the vibe. Then at 9:30 we were suddenly told our time was up. No warning, no "do you want to extend?" - just a blunt time's up. We explained the decorating situation and that our reservation was technically until 10. After going back and forth, they extended us to 9:55, which we appreciated. Checkout was chaotic. Lots of staff going in and out, confusion around pricing, and overall just disorganized energy at the end. Honestly, it was almost a great experience. Good food, fun concept, nice atmosphere - but the lack of clear communication and the rushed ending really took away from it. With better organization and clearer policies, this place could easily be a win.

The dated, mismatched aesthetic is part of the vibe though honestly so don't let that stop you from having a good time. There's a big open area for karaoke with those sitting around you, and then smaller private rooms if you want it just for your own group. Service wise, Genji's is honestly solid. They have bottle service available where you'll get your liquor of choice, shot cups, chasers/mixers, ice, and plenty of cups. Don't skip out on the food here either. We had to download an app and it will send whatever music you wanted to sing to the TV. They also had a covering on the mics. Sadly one of our mics wasn't working. There's also a camera in the room in case something happens. I liked how we can turn on a light to signal a staff member that we need some assistance. We ordered a variety of snacks . All the fries stuff was evenly coated, and well done. The noodles were more like food fillers. I would skip the takoyaki next time. The room definitely gives an 80s vibe and a bit dingy. You can tell that this place has been here for a long time. If you're not into karaoke, they do have a main dining area. There's free parking out front .

The spicy sweet wings seemed boneless at first because they're such a huge piece but there was a small bone inside it(I didn't order boneless). They do give you a couple of side dishes like a mac and cheese coleslaw type thing and radish. The place itself is also extremely spacious and well decorated. There's a general area for people to eat and mingle and sing, and there are big private rooms for parties that want to have smaller gatherings. The private rooms are great! There's plenty of comfy seating, a large table, 2 mics and a large screen. Disco like lights really make the experience fun and lively! And most importantly, a large catalogue of songs in several languages. The staff member gave us a tutorial of how to use the technology. Later, due to a glitch, she also gave us a discount! It's the most logical and easy to follow amongst the karaoke bars in Chinatown. There are different sizes of rooms, starting $30 for the smallest one to fit up to 8 people. Then, it goes up to medium $40 an hour, that was where I hosted my recent party. It can fit up to 12 people.  My party was during the week. I chose to rent the room and have a 10-course meal with drinks that reached the minimum of $295, which doesn't apply to the hourly rate. My guests ordered some drinks. Everyone was happy while we sang 4 hours to the end.  On the days that I don't have parties, I sing in the main dining room solo. The rule is $20 spending per person regardless of party size. If I didn't order that much, they would charge $20 for karaoke. The computerized screen has the most popular songs in many different languages. I only sing Standard English songs. There are few Spanish songs but you have to know the singer by name to search for it. Sometimes, the songs need to be downloaded or it may not be available to download.  The atmosphere is so hip. You don't have to sing if you don't want to. My friend that came with me was happy to be there. He just watched me while eating some Chinese noodles and drinking his Blue Moon Beer. I was enjoying my black tea with passionfruit and peach while my food was getting ready. The sandwich I got, amazing. Love the slaw, good piece of chicken, and seasoning hit the spot. It was very moist and pretty easy to bite through. Like Szechuan food, the spice starts off very low and then builds up over time. Pretty good and unique overall but not worth going out of your way for. They also have a Taiwanese salt and pepper chicken sandwich which might be worth trying as well.
