Along the way, we also discovered that we needed to have the roof replaced, and so put that in the mix for a bid as well. We contacted six different companies, each of which brought a particular set of strengths and challenges. We chose Austin Pro based on a combination of factors: personalized attention to our project, comprehensive estimate and explanation of each line item, and ability to get the project done on a timeline that worked for us. We chose to have the house re-sided with Hardie Plank, painted with Sherwin-Williams paint, and re-shingled the roof with GAF shingles. It's easy to get overwhelmed by the process of basically re-doing the entire house, especially when insurance companies come into play. To that end, everyone at Austin Pro was first rate. Before we even settled on a contractor, Paul, our project manager, walked me through the intricacies of the process, and spent probably more time than he wanted explaining how things would go, and what options we had. The bid was competitive, and the line-by-line items on the original bid made it easy to see what was going to be done, and what materials were going to be used. He was patient and courteous and flexible, and was also able to speak to us in a way that didn't make things even more confusing. Kevin was the siding project lead, and though we never met in person, I felt comfortable that he had our best interests at heart as he got the crew on site, working fast and efficiently to remove and replace the siding. He even called in the middle of the siding job to tell us that we didn't need something we thought we would, saving us money that we could then use for add-ons we didn't originally budget for. The siding install and siding paint was done beyond our initial expectations, with nice touches like window framing and utility box framing that I didn't even know we needed but now look perfect. We had the back door repainted as well as our front balcony and pillars, and the end result is fantastic. It really was done to the point where it looks like a brand new house, and not one built in the early 1990s. Paul was back on site for the roofing job, and the roofers did a great job removing and replacing the shingles and skylight with new materials, on a roof that is exceptionally steep and challenging. They had the entire project done in only two days, and it looks fantastic. Finally, Garrett came by to do the final walk-through and punch list check-off, and was a real pleasure to interact with. He fulfilled all the items on the list, at least the ones he could do on his own, and did so in a friendly, courteous, and extremely efficient manner. All in all, Austin Pro lived up to their name and to their reputation. It is possible to find a company that can do your big jobs for less, but I am not sure you could find one that could do it better. They stand by their work with a quality assurance guarantee, and while I don't intend to need it, it's great that it's there.

Also HD told us that we couldn't get the side sliding windows look that we loved about our old aluminum windows and had to get double hung because sliders wouldn't pass egress code. Not true! We decided to go with vinyl windows and a large 8 foot sliding door off our kitchen. Austin Retrofit worked with us and gave us exactly the look we wanted at a very affordable price compared to other outfits. As other posters have mentioned you do have to be patient because they get very busy in the summer. I would recommend getting the quote in the winter and scheduling right away so you're not left waiting too long. About the workmanship. They arrived on time and were very respectful of our home. They hung thick plastic to protect furniture and the rest of he home from dust and debris. They cleaned up after themselves impecably and I think our house was cleaner after they left than when they arrived. They even touched up the paint on our window frames and replaced some rotted out framing lumber without charging us any additional fees. Some places will make you get a different contractor all together to do any framing replacement. Also be wary of places that aren't willing to submit for a building permit. These days with the city of Austin becoming more and more rigid you really should go with a reputable business. They submitted our permit application (albeit a little late) and we just had our inspection today. We passed with flying colors. Puncturing an internal PVC plumbing pipe, illegally wrapping it in black duct tape, and immediately hiding it behind the new siding is not a 'punch-list' item - it is active fraudulent concealment. The 'Fraudulent' Financing: We authorized the payment because they claimed to follow actively concealed the duct-taped plumbing. Inducing a customer to authorize a loan by hiding severe damage is the legal definition of fraudulent concealment. Contradictory Public Statements & The BBB Complaint: JP Exteriors is using public platforms to feign cooperation. On our active BBB complaint, they claim they are waiting for our independent inspection report before taking action. However, their own written record proves they inspected the property themselves on June 11th and issued a superficial patching offer on June 22nd. The very next day, they explicitly stated in writing they were not willing to expand their scope to a full replacement, formally refusing to cure the hidden defects before our third-party inspection was even conducted on June 24th. The 42-page independent inspection report, which we received on June 29, definitively confirms that the widespread, concealed code violations and structural deficiencies cannot be resolved through superficial patching. The report details systemic failures, including improperly installed weather-resistant barriers, missing flashings, overdriven fasteners, damaged boards, unsealed wall penetrations, and an internal PVC plumbing pipe that was punctured by a fastener and actively concealed with black duct tape. The Manufacturer's Involvement: James Hardie is indeed involved, to the extent that the manufacturer offered to provide free replacement materials to JP Exteriors so they could execute a proper rework.
