I've stopped by kinjo before for a togo order and came by on a Friday night around 9pm to do the same as a quick little snack. When we went to place your order though, we were told pickup order wait time would be about 30 minutes - this probably should've prompted me to realize there would be no quick little snack tonight but I was a little too tired to think critically so we decided to dine in instead. It's pretty chilly inside with some minimal clean decor. I ordered the scallop hand roll, and then we proceeded to stay about 45 minutes before we got our hand rolls. They keep the nori on a little grill with the rice while prepping the protein, and I found that the nori ended up being just a little soggy instead of crisp by the time I ate it, and though the rice was warm the overall handroll experience actually was as enjoyable as the times I've gotten hand rolls to go before, where the nori stayed nice and fresh and crisp. The scallops themselves were nice but the sauce wasjt too flavorful and it ended up tasting a little watery overall and there was a lot of liquid that made it pretty messy to eat. The chefs did try to make up for the long wait - I believe he said he gave me a little extra scallop only hand roll, and my friend the more premium tuna instead of the one she had ordered, but overall I think I'll stick to coming here to pick up a togo hand roll or two when I'm craving a light meal or snack - and is stick to the ocean spring handroll next time which I think has a better balance of sauce, fish and rice. read more

The fish is very fresh and tasty. We enjoyed the bluefin tuna, ora king salmon, snow crab, yellowtail, and I forgot what else. My little daughter ate the pork ramen and I enjoyed that it didn't taste as salty as other places. They also brought out the ramen at a temperature my daughter could eat right away without waiting for it to cool (or worse, putting ice into the broth). I didn't even ask for this and I really appreciated it. The EGG, oh my goodness the egg was perfection. I recommend the fish taco trio if they have it!! I've been to Kinjo Hand Roll Bar a few times, and in the past I've really enjoyed it, which is why I kept coming back. Unfortunately, my last couple of visits weren't the best. We brought friends who were visiting from out of town because we wanted to show them a good spot, but we ended up finding hair in multiple dishes. It was really disappointing and honestly pretty uncomfortable. We didn't make a big deal out of it since we didn't want to ruin the night for our guests, but it definitely affected the experience. The service was friendly and the atmosphere is nice, but consistency and cleanliness are really important, especially for a place serving raw fish. I sat outside and had a very delicious lunch The sashimi was a fantastic start--I got the bluefin and salmon special. Both were incredibly fresh and melt-in-your-mouth delicious, especially with the thoughtful little condiments they came with. While both were amazing, the bluefin was my personal favorite. But the real star of the show? The A5 Wagyu hand roll. Seriously, this thing was next-level. Juicy, fatty, and just a perfect bite of heaven. If I had unlimited funds, I would have ordered about sixteen of these. I'm not a big fan of seaweed paper, but the Wagyu and rice alone were worth every penny. The gyoza were also a decent add-on--perfectly crispy with a savory filling, even though the sauce wasn't my favorite. We were seated right away and given some menus. I will say, there isn't a crazy amount of variety on the menu - so if you come here, you come here for the hand rolls. But what a great reason to come! The rolls are a bit pricy but the fish in them are SO fresh and delicious. There are a few bundle options that ease the price a little bit, but keep in mind there are no substitutions. We had also ordered some other things to supplement our hand rolls- takoyaki and the pork belly fries. Both were SO good. The takoyaki balls were quite large and had nice crunch on the outside with soft tako and filling on the inside. In other words, everything I would ever want in a takoyaki. The sauce on the pork belly fries was simply perfect and the pork belly itself was crispy. My only complaint is that the restaurant is so small that sounds and conversations from other tables are easy to hear and it can get a little noisy. Not the restaurant's fault, but at the time of my dining, there was one table that was particularly loud and their noise filled the whole restaurant. I'm so glad we did, because everything we ordered was so good! The service was also quick and friendly. Our server even shared her favorites with us. We started with the pork belly fries, shrimp tempura, and croquette. All were delicious! I liked the fries more than I expected. Then we each ordered a few hand rolls. We all had the A5 Wagyu. I was very excited to try this place, it has been on my list ever since it opened and I finally got the chance to go. I ordered the 5 handrolls for $47 along with the Uni Ikura handroll. Personally, I really liked all the handrolls but if I had to choose one, I would go with the Yellowtail. It was so refreshing and light. The place was pretty small but it still felt pretty cozy and didn't feel squeezed in. The highest praise goes to the service. Our waitress was absolutely lovely and considerate. She made sure we were doing fine and we bonded over our favorite handrolls. During the middle of our experience, it started pouring rain. Nothing can replace an institution like Harry's Cafe, but Kinjo is a worthy replacement for the space that once used to serve breakfast favorites. I wasn't aware that a Hand Roll Bar had arrived in Sacramento, but I'm glad we have one now and I'm glad it's Kinjo. The service was impeccable and the food was nothing short of extraordinary. The fish was fresh and the portions were generous. A few of my favorites are described below in more detail. A Spicy Tuna Handroll is the litmus test for me when I find myself in a handroll bar and Kinjo's confirmed that this place is special. It had the right amount of kick and a creamy like texture. I had mine with a soy wrap The Ocean Spring Roll had a wonderful touch of mint that gave the roll a nice herbaceous pop. The most refreshing roll of the night. The Pepperfin melted in my mouth. I haven't encountered such thick cuts before, but the texture was so smooth and soft. The Toro had me smiling as I sipped my ice cold Sapporo. Expertly cut and served with daikon and pickled wasabi. The wasabi packed a punch. I preferred the toro without the daikon and wasabi. The Toro was similar to the pepperfin. I wondered if I had to bite it at all or it would just melt in my mouth since it was so buttery. It was rich and buttery and I would order it again. The problem was after that it took forever to get our food. Then when we ordered more it was another long wait. I watched an entire basketball game getting two rounds of 5 rolls for the table. I had high hopes for a handroll place in sactown, but this one fell short of expectations, and when compared to other handroll places (like Kazu Nori), this place is just not good. $47 for 5 handrolls is nuts, especially when Kazu Nori is $25 for 5 handrolls. The fish was fine (7.5 out of 10, only because the toro was ground up which hides the best attributes of a toro). Service was good as everyone was nice, this is even though we wait 45 mins because they forgot our order. Unfortunately, I won't be back here. I wish them luck though. read more

We each ordered a creamy scallop hand roll ($7.50 each), I got an unagi hand roll ($7.50) and my friend got a spicy tuna hand roll ($7). They made one at a time for each of us so that the nori stayed crunchy and they were rolled into tubes versus cones so that the protein was evenly spread throughout. The creamy scallop hand roll was tasty and even with the chili garlic it wasn't spicy- just flavorful. The unagi hand roll was savory and sweet and nice and warm. We were stopping at a few different restaurants, otherwise we would have ordered more and maybe tried some of the small plates. I also saw a sign for lunch bento boxes which sound great too. This spot is probably best for dates, small groups, a solo meal or quick take out. I could see it filling up quickly. There was only one table available as the bar was full and every other table was occupied. I ordered the 3 premium handrolls (Uni ikura, bluefin toro, and A5 wagyu.) This is a tiny place next to a floral shop. I walked in with my brother and husband and felt super awkward just waiting to be seated. We were just standing waiting to be acknowledged. The only reason I give Kinjo 4 stars is because their seaweed isn't quite on par with other handroll restaurants I've been too. Finally got to try this place after seeing it on social media. Walked in and the restaurant is smaller than I expected but still enough seating to accommodate a bit of people. They also have bar seating so you can watch the chefs make the food. There was a couple sitting at the bar when we went and the staff seemed to be very friendly with them. Ordered the salmon skin HR (7/10), salmon HR (7/10), Albacore HR (8/10), and Geso (10/10). We originally went to try the uni but unfortunately they didn't have it that day.
