Relatively new to the area of Pharmacy and McNicol in Scarborough this Korean restaurant is a great spot to have some Korean classics. They've got a great variety and have daily specials. The prices are reasonable and the service is attentive. We decided to try their Army Stew which consisted of cheese, spam, ham, greens, etc. Literally almost every food group you can think of. In my area, there aren't too many close Korean restaurants for a quick bite so I was glad my friends found Onnuri. They have all your go to Korean comfort eats and BBQ too! Since it's winter, I've only had their soups so far and they were great. Both the kalguksu and the manduguk are hot upon serving, super tasty (maybe a little on the salty side) and hit the spot. I've also tried their jajangmen which had a more unique flavour than other places. It was a slightly smokey flavour with a hint of spice which was a nice treat since most jajangmen's are naturally salty. The smoke and spice helped calm the salt. The place is run by an older crowd, reminds me of the mom and pop shops in Korea. They're really attentive and try their best to give good service. It's quite spacious and you shouldn't have a problem getting a table when you come here. I'm excited to try their BBQ offerings in the summer as they have a patio you can eat on. read more

Spotted this restaurant several times as I passed by the intersection. The restaurant is not very big with one waiter only. At first, I dis not come with any expectation but ........everything is excellent! I ordered a combo with a bowl of cold noodle and an order of sizzling pan fried short ribs and an extra order of fried chicken ball on top. Bowl of Cold Noodle (score 5/5) I especially like the broth of the noodle. Unlike other Korean restaurants, the taste of the broth is not refreshing without heavily used of vinegar and there's sweetness in the broth. Other than the noodle and the broth, there are two slices of cucumber, two slices of pear, two slices of beef, half an egg and slices of turnip all around. Love the broth a lot. I don't mind just drinking the broth only without the noodles. Short Ribs in Sizzling Pan (score 5/5) The ribs have marinated very well! The taste is just perfect! Even the onion at the bottom of the short ribs have absorbed the marinated sauce of the ribs and they tasted so good! Deep Fries Chicken Balls (score 4/5) A bit disappointed. It can be more crispier and could taste more interesting by adding more seasoning. Well, it's not the end of the world. It's still edible. I believe this restaurant has been operating for less than a year. Non-food points: - The interior is clean and simply minimalist - I believe all the servers are Korean. They can speak and understand English. They were attentive to take our orders and offered to re-fill our banchan (I've never experienced this at a Korean restaurant) - For lunch, we paid with cash and received a 10% discount - If the main parking lot is full, there is another lot across the street - Daily specials on a chalk wall (see photos) Food: Gamjatang (pork bone soup): Lunch special $9.99: I only tried the soup and it was the typical porky flavour. We asked for it to be less spicy and the kitchen definitely honoured this. It comes with purple rice instead of the typical white rice. Grilled mackerel: $7.99 for one piece. It comes with purple rice and [miso] soup. For the amount of food, this was a great price. The mackerel was grilled well with a slight char to impart some crunch to the outer flesh and smokey flavour. banchan: Standard Korean banchans are complimentary and it appears there are free re-fills Flavour and quality of the food is average or slightly better than the typical Korean restaurants (such as Owl). Onnuri is like a gruff old man... rough steely exterior but kind of like a soft teddy bear on the inside. If you've grown up in Scarborough you will know Onnuri is located in a strip plaza at the corner of Pharmacy and McNicoll that used to feature a small handful of Asian restaurants before they became overly prevalent. The plaza is definitely beaten up despite the face lifts that business owners had tried to perform. The interior of the restaurant is clean but if you look deeper you can definitely find traces of its age. However the washroom is surprisingly clean. Albeit a new restaurant but you can see that's there's care and pride in up-keeping the business. Again the servers and business owners points back to the gruff old man analogy. Throughout most of the experience the servers were quite stoic but once a mistake had been made the cuddly bear comes out. More on that. Here's the lowdown on the food: Four stars for the main courses: Pork bone soup - we ordered a non spicy one for the kids. The soul (the spiciness) itself is not present (by request) but the soup's spirit is still intact and was very flavourful. The taste of the pork bone was meaty and rich. Spicy squid dupbob - people who has a high tolerance for spice maybe a bit disappointed with the heat check level (so request that they up the ante). But they were heavy on the garlic, ginger, and onion and made it into a delicious gochujang. Beef bulgogi - likewise lots of green onions and onions. They didn't over do the sesame oil which is good. Another flavourful well seasoned dish. Doen Jang JJigae and grilled mackerel combo - mackerel is solid maybe a tiny bit fishy. The doen jang jjigae... well we never got to try it since they gave us the kimchi soup by mistake. Although we said it was ok since we didn't want to waste food, the server repeatedly apologized and offered to replace. After the ordeal they gave us two cans of Want Want kids milk drink to my kids. Many other restaurants would probably have called it a day when the customers said it's fine but not The folks at this restaurant. Alright back to the dish. Again spicy level is not excessive, but the red pepper paste in the soup was on point and the sourness of the kimchi gives a good contrast. The pork belly in it was delicious and fully absorbed the flavours of the soup. Two and a half stars for the appetizers: It's a bit of a hit and miss here. Glazed sweet potato and the fish cakes were enjoyable. The mayo corn was meh...the dressing was watery and lacked the tangy sourness. They are better off just using straight Miracle Whip and maybe a bit of honey. The bean sprouts were a bit bland. There's nothing that more sesame oil and some roasted sesame cannot solve. The worst of the lot was the kelp appetizer which was bland but yet had a metallic chemical taste to it. This place is really a three and a half star and I'm dying to give them four stars. I hope they can improve on the appetizers the next time so that I can adjust my review accordingly. Lunch special are available and they have a different special every day of the week. I am blown away. This unassuming little gem; hidden in a small little plaza with a banquet hall beside it blindsides you with the quality of the food and the attentive service. The space is clean and efficient. There is space outside for summer time gatherings. They serve local Makkeoli. Brewed right here in Toronto, that's a big plus in my books. The menu is prodigious. A healthy collection of the standard fare that most people are familiar with, and a nice amount of more traditional options. Have you had Boodae Jjigae recenty? The kimchi jeon was just the right amount of sour with the fermented kick you expect from the main ingredient. The LA Galbi was marinated thoroughly. Smoky. Sweet. And oh so unctuous in how it delivered the umami all over your tongue. The dak galbi was spicy, seasoned to perfection and sizzling all the while it was at the table. Seriously, they say you eat with your eyes first. But they forgot the ears in the mix; thankfully Onnuri remembers. The fried mandu was cruchy on the outside, but soft and juicy inside. The skin was not oily at all. And lastly, the banchan selection was hefty. The kimchi was certainly the queen of the court (I am biased to kimchi) but the honeyed sweet potatoes were something special. There are so many other dishes that I didn't get a chance to sample. The Naeng Myeon, the oodles of jjigae they have. I will be back. Repeatedly. You have to come here! The pricing is balanced. The food is indeed excellent and the booze is local. Potentially becoming a new favourite!! I came to this restaurant for a dinner catchup with a close friend that I haven't seen for a few months. The staff are super polite despite us over-sitting for about 4 hours lol. Their gamjatang was super rich and delicious. It's not very spicy at all, but has a small spicy kick infused, which is great especially for a low-spice tolerance individual such as myself! They're quite generous, packing the soup dish with almost 5 meaty bones! :) I enjoyed the traditional purple rice that is served in comparison to white rice. The side dishes are quite fresh and they offer a good variety (fried fish paste, honey sweet potato, seaweed, beansprouts. and ofc kimchi) and I really want to highlight the uniformity of the dishes they used and how neatly the dishes are clustered in the middle of the table! My favourite was the honey sweet potato that was served opposed to the white potatoes other restaurants serve, the taste was notably more pleasant! Their barley tea us also very warming and well brewed, it's not watered down like other places nor served in a health-alarming plastic jug. Another korean restaurant in my book of korean options! Pretty cute place but slightly smaller than most other korean restaurants. Also tucked away in a really small plaza so be weary of parking. Aside from that, the decor & layout looks pretty neat. Their patio area looks definitely appealing to hangout at when the weather gets warm. Service was friendly and quick as there were not many tables being served at the time. Had their Yuk Gae Jang and overall it wasn't bad compared to many other places I've tried it at (outside the Yonge Street strip of course because we all know korean food along Yonge/near Yonge & Finch is THE BOMB!). A neat little difference comparing to most other korean restaurants is that they serve the purple rice and they had different greens served with their banchan. I ordered the Japchae here and the price looked really good compared to other places. When my order came, it was really runny and saugy. It was not like usually japchae that is stir fried. I was a bit disappointed because it should have been a simple dish to make. My boyfriend ordered the Eel bimbimbop and the eels were sliced really thin. It was served on purple rice and it was non-stick. The bottom was crunchy and it was a large portion. The side dishes were quite small and they would be sold out of some of the side dishes. [Delivery experience] Got the Supreme Chicken (saucy) and Snowing Chicken (dry). The flavours were good (prefer the Supreme) and meat was tender and juicy. The problem I had was the skin. I order quite a bit of Korean fried chicken for delivery during pandemic and this one got all soggy by the time I got it because there's little to no breading compared to other KFC places which usually still remain crispy even though it's not hot anymore. My friend suggested us to come here for Chinese skewers but turned out it's now Onnuri Korean Food, so we decided to give it a try. The food menu seems to offer a variety, the Korean fried chicken picture looks nice. But whenever I visited a new Korean resto, I always ordered pork bone soup, coz it's a stable dish and it's the best way to test out the resto. The pork bone soup was ok, I am not a fan, many Korean restos especially Korean town can do better. The broth wasn't as spicy as I would have like, it's not that flavourful. I ordered the noodles instead of the rice, noodle was ok. There was only 2 pieces of pork bone, was a bit disappointed as other places offer 3 to 4 pieces. At $11.99 for just 2 pieces were a bit disappointing. However, the service was excellent, the side dishes were tasting. I think this place is ok, not bad and not good, you won't miss anything if you don't need to visit, but if you are around the area and hungry, it does its job. read more

Had dinner at Onnuri for the first time. First impressions to the plaza was.... where do I park? It was 7ish pm. Tonight there was a wedding at the banquet hall next door, which left other customers to the restaurants in this plaza to park else where. I did a circle in the small parking lot and turn out, and parked in the plaza next door north of McNicoll on Pharmacy. When I arrive, the restaurant was 70% full and was greeted by happy smiles from the staff. Their menu had a great variety of food and the usual Korean staples. The seating was roomy for a restaurant of this size. We ordered chicken karaage, pork bone soup, a combo that had bulgogi and cold spicy noodles. It came with 6 side dishes! The food came fast and it was delicious. We were a bit disturbed that the pork bone soup liquid was not filled up to the rim. It was an inch down from the rim. Portions were okay over all. The washrooms were really clean and roomy. Unlike other korean restaurants, there are no buzzers at the table, so you really need to flag someone down when they attend to others tables. Overall food taste great and fresh. There was also 10% off when you pay cash. That was a surprising plus! read more

Its alright. Came by for a Sunday lunch. Parking lot was full so ended up parking at a set of buildings up the street. Ordered the Seafood Kalgooksoo which came with a decent amount of noodles and toppings such as mussels and squid along with a mix of vegetables. There seems to be a lot of diversity in the menu items and maybe some of them rotate as the menu was listed for May-June. Wish the broth had a bit more flavour as it just tasted like it was lightly salted and that the food came out a tad faster. One of my favourite places to get my two of my favourite things: Korean food and Korean fried chicken! I usually place my order online through their webpage ordering system and then pick up online. Their website is designed for easy ordering and their system is quite fast and I can usually get my order within the 20-25 minute time frame. This time I ordered in person for take out as I wanted to go to the Saint Germains bakery that just opened right beside. Ordering was quick even though I could tell the server was busy with multiple takeout uber eats order but he told us it would be a 20/25 minute wait. Although it did take a bit longer he was nice enough to put the order closer to the door so we didn't have to come in to get our order. I decided to get the Soontofu, mackerel, cheese powder fried chicken and japchae. The fried chicken was fried perfectly with the chicken still being really juicy. The soon tofu was a little too spicy for my taste but it was still yum! Ordered the kalbi with cold noodles and the pork bone soup. Appetizers came .... kimchi is terrible ... the apps just weren't great. Cold noodles was rather on the warmer side and there's no ice slush?.... the kalbi was done well. Pork bone soup surprisingly was probably the highlight of the meal. Nothing special about Onnuri but it's a decent place to get a quick fix for Korean food... Also the plaza they're in is always super hard to find parking and it's a small lot. A newly opened Korean restaurant located in a plaza with plenty parking. Since it is close to my work place, decided to give it a try. Friendly service but I think some of them don't speak too much English and I am still ok as their menu have pictures of every items. A lot of different dishes to choose from but because I craved for cold noodles all winter long, my mission was here to compare their cold noodles with Cho Sun Ok. But because I went with 3 friends, I was able to try a little bit more dishes. We ended up making the cold noodles as a combo with the short ribs, and ordered the Jajangmyeon(noodles with black bean sauce) as well as the sweet and spicy chicken. Let's start with the refillable side dishes, the kimchi and the fishcakes were my favourite! They slice the fishcakes up into good size compare to some other places. The cold noodles were very good but I was expecting to have a piece of ice like Cho Sun Ok but still it was done nicely and I would definitely go back to eat this again. Prices were reasonable pretty much like the rest of the Korean restaurants. They serves a lot of different soju so for sure this is a go to place at night when I want to drink with friend. I was craving for Korean and it was close to work, so I thought to give this a try. Just like the other reviewers, this little gem is kinda hidden in a little plaza. I am a fan of purple rice and they have it. I got the Beef Dolsot Bibimbap and Jjin Mandoo. The rice to veggie and meat ratio was perfect and loaded the spinach, mushrooms, bean sprouts, and cucumbers. As always kimchi pairs well with everything. The mandoo was a delight. All my food come out fairly quickly. Great for a quick lunch. I will definitely be coming back whenever I have a craving for Korean and to try out other things in the menus. read more

I've seen different restaurants come and go at this location, and now we have one that serves Korean dishes. It's not a fancy please and the decor is simple, nothing wrong with that. To my surprise, the restaurant was pretty busy even on a Wednesday night. The 2 servers worked quickly and refilled our side dishes upon request (love them refills). One tip I have for folks is to check out the walls; there are specials posted every week and pay special attention to the daily specials! The other is to be extra careful while reading the menus, because the pictures are deceptive lols. While most entrees are decently sized, whenever you purchase a combo (e.g., cold noodle and a meaty dish), the meat plate is significantly smaller. I can totally understand because bulgolgi is way more expensive, but they probably could have done a better job identifying the size in the menu. Someone took a photo of the karaage and it looked like chicken wings on Yelp, but it isn't lols. Anyhow this dish is great! They serve it hot (of course), super crunchy on the outside and a nice tender touch on the inside. I was a bit disappointed with the cold noodles, it wasn't as tasty as I had imagined. There are 2 bottles that come with the dish, vinegar and mustard. Be sure to use both to enhance the flavour. The pork dish we got was really good, mildly spicy, but a bit small in the portion size. Overall, I think their food is slightly above average but I think their prices are also a tad higher than other Korean restaurants. I wouldn't say Onnuri is better than restaurants along Yonge street, but it isn't bad for the Scarborough peeps. read more

A fairly new place in the area. Contains a lot of the typical Korean fare like stews, cold noodles, and barbeque. I opted for the GamJaTang (Pork Bone Soup). The stew came with a side of purple/black rice, which is a nice change of pace from standard rice. You also receive a bunch of side dishes, like Kimchi. The stew had a nice flavour to it. However, the meat was just a tad bit tough and did not come off the bone very easily. The staff is very friendly and accomodating. The establishment is decently large and spacious. Plenty of parking, just around the corner from our church. The servers/waitresses are Korean speaking but apparently the owner/chef is Chinese so not a totally Korean authentic restaurant, if that matters to you. My family and I (and a toddler) dined at an early hour, around 5 pm for dinner on Sunday. Completely empty. The servers were also pretty useless, other than bringing the meals, didn't offer to fill up hot water/tea despite the restaurant being completely empty. They were pretty much on their phones the entire time we were there. We ordered kalguksu (bone broth noodle soup), mul naeung myun (Korean cold noodle soup) and kamjatang (pork bone soup). Being Korean, the dishes weren't bad but the cold noodle soup was a small portion for the price ($12.99) and the kalguksu was pretty salty. The banchan were alright, lots of variety, like 6 different dishes. My mom (who's Korean) said the kamjatang was pretty good and the pork bones provided were pretty big. The kamjatang came with the purple rice as well. We also ordered fried chicken appetizer, which was okay but not great. Overall, an okay restaurant but way better Korean spots just west near Yonge. It's in a pretty non-description plaza so it's not easy to spot if you're just driving around. They offer 10% discount if you're paying in cash. read more

Tried this place out today because it has pretty good reviews here. We got the JabChae, beef Dolsot bi bim bap, chicken balls and spring rolls. The JapChae is the best one I've had anywhere, though I'm not used to eating it hot. Dolsot bi bim bap was good. It was served over purple rice but unfortunately the stone bowl wasn't hot enough so it was missing a slight crisp. The chicken balls were more like strips, that wasn't an issue and I found them "ok" as with the spring rolls-I note I'm not a big fan of asian fried foods in general. Service was too slow. They did offer us free soft drinks being that their AC wasn't working. The "appetizers" were good by a Korean standard. If you're like me and want to find a decent authentic Korean place (food by Koreans and not "Asians") this is a good benchmark for food. I'd definitely go again to try other dishes being the price was more than reasonable. read more

Great to have a Korean/Chinese restaurant somewhat close to my neighbourhood. Otherwise, I would have to go to the other end of the city (Steeles/Bathurst) to get my fix of Jajanmyun, Kampoongee, etc. I would say order the items that are more Korean/Chinese dishes rather than just Korean dishes, but they have a good variety of food items on their menu for whatever you may be craving. I've ordered their Kampongee (Spicy Sweet & Sour Chicken) which is slightly pricier than other places for the portion you get. Their Samsun Jajangmyun was pretty good from what my husband said. When you're craving summer refreshing to cool you down in the summer, order their Mul Naengmyeon (buckwheat noodle in cold broth soup). Their Bibim Naengmyeon was good, but we've had better. I have also ordered their yukaejang which I have also had better elsewhere, but overall the food here is good enough to go back to. read more

Dinner on Tuesday night with friends was a good choice if you don't like traveling to Yonge areas or downtown areas for parking and away from traffics. There have good parking spots. This will be my go to for Korean food which is convenient and away from busy place. The space is small medium and it just a simple place to eat good food. I like how the tables are not pack close by each other so you are not actually listening to other people conversation.
