When we heard about the self serving model of Ono Brewing Company we knew we had to stop in. We had our dog in tow and thankfully they allowed dogs on the patio area (it's not really a patio but a section of a parking lot but it was separated with tables, chairs, and cornh hole). The owner was great and brought our dog a water bowl when he saw there wasn't one outside. It's family owned and operated; the owners are really friendly, helpful, and accommodating. They explained the process as well as their beers. This is how it works: You check in and open a tap. They give you a card which activates the taps. You place the card on your chosen tap and pour your beer. The price is by ounce; the more you pour the more you pay. They have pint glasses and tasters and 8 beers to choose from. The beers range from IPAs, porters, and ales which is a good selection. We tried two beers during our visit, the pumpkin stout and coconut porter. Both beers were delicious-easy to drink and well made. The theme is Hawaiian which is seen in the beers and decor. Overall a great spot and definitely want to come back. read more

Welcome to the future. A world where your enjoyment of beer is not limited by one person tending to 40 others totally at their own will. I love this concept of a bartender-less brewery, not because I hate bartenders, but because I hate waiting and inefficiency. The owners are visionaries and took a gamble on a concept that some people will probably hate, but most will embrace. I was here on their opening weekend and admit the beers did mostly flow together with the exception of about 3 distinct flavors. Folks, this is normal. You're not going to create seismic shifts in a highly competitive craft brewing market in a day... week.. month, it will take time. The ambiance could benefit from a bit more tropical feel but it's OK, i'm here to grab some beers with friends and try something no one else has done yet in NOVA. Lastly, my friends and I put the "alcoholic shaming" limit to the test. We hit the 32oz of beer in an hour limit and a big warning popped up telling us to tell a human to reset it, unless that is, you're actually hammered off 32oz in an hour after which you should probably just grab a Lyft/Uber home. Came here over the weekend and was super impressed with the measures they've taken to ensure safety during this time. They were sanitizing the door each and every time someone entered or exited. They also had outdoor seating options that provided distance from other tables. I also loved the system they used for ordering - They give you a card at the beginning that you then use throughout your time there to order drinks and/or food items. At the end, you pay the balance that's on the card. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, the drinks and food were phenomenal! Full disclosure- I am a person who would rather pay adult price for kid sizes. I hate food & drink waste! This place is perfect for people like me. Self-serve, pay for what you drink. Want 1.05 oz... great, done! want 2.37 oz... great, done! Want a whole pint.... that's easy, just fill your glass. I don't care if it's a few cents more to just try small amounts. Better than to pay $3 to taste a crappy beer. And is it really anymore money in the long run, idk?! Liked the holiday beer. Dark beer was ok. Husband loved the IPA's. I am from out of town visiting the area. Staying at Holiday Inn Dulles across the street. Love this place. 2nd time here. Wish we had it at home. People are friendly. Staff is helpful. Great concept. Not busy (Saturday night) and surprised by that. Happy we didn't have to fight crowds though. I could imagine happy hour is busy. The food (Odd BBQ) was fantastic and they deserve a 5 out of 5 too. I went to Ono Brewing Company with my husband, some friends and their toddler on 9/9/17. This place feels like it slowly becoming a local hangout. One of my friends bump into a co-worker. I also heard a lot of "oh hi how great to see you" in the time we were there. I have been to quite a few craft breweries (if you read thru my Yelp profile that also becomes apparent) but this is the 1st craft brewery I've been to with the self-service or self-pour concept. I've heard of (never experienced) this concept for wine but never for beer. It took a little while to get used to. To the credit of the staff, they're very polite and walk you thru it (although, I am sure on some level they get tired of explaining it). The atmosphere is comfortable and the place is kept very clean. Ono Brewing Company should reconsider how their seating is arranged. I saw a lot of small tables for 2 people to sit. However in my experience most people go to drink craft beer in groups of 4 - 8. My friends and I had to move around tables so we could be accommodated. The beer was average. A couple times I was disappointed that the description did not match the taste of the beer. However, the beers were relatively mild taste-wise and this made sharing with my husband much easier. This rarely happens because our taste profiles (likes) tend to be very different. So this is a interesting twist on the standard brewery with self serving taps. Pretty smooth system, the employees got clean glassware out quickly and were very friendly. I do miss the aspect of going to a brewery and speaking with someone associated with the brewing process while they pour so the whole system seems a little sterile and disconnected from the experience I enjoy, which is getting to know the people who craft these beers. But in the sea of office/industrial park breweries the systems helps it stand out. Beer wise they had an excellent Helles, and a couple nice IPAs. Also a nice range is beers, my wife found a low IBU beer she enjoyed and overall with the typical barroom board games it was a fun afternoon. I will return. read more

Fun brewery (jammed in the back of some sort of bad marriage between a strip mall and industrial area) with self-serve beers by the ounce and an attached bbq joint. You open a tab at the first station which provides a plastic card from which to dispense the beer. Order the bbq at the next window. The beer runs the gamut so there's something for everyone - lager, hard seltzer, IPA and Stout. It's not going to knock your socks off but it's nice enough. The bbq is the standout with moist brisket and chicken. The sliders are to die for - cheddar cheese biscuits cooked so the bottom is crunchy - with meat and pickles. Oh my! The sauces are a bit ho-hum - I wish they had something smokier and spicier (chipotle anyone?) but the Korean version was decent enough. read more

What a unique brewery! The beachy atmosphere was super chill and my friends and I loved it. They had tons of board games (even though some of the pieces weren't there or working in some of the games). We loved the serve yourself style brewery, which allowed for us to mix and match beers and sizes. We had tasters, half glasses, and glasses. We stopped here after a sports show at the expo center. I have been meaning to try this place for a few weeks now. I'm glad that we stopped by. The beer selection was good and the self serve delivery system was unique (for me). We also tried the food which was not bad. Too cold to sit outside today but I will next time. I liked the pumpkin beer with graham cracker spiced sugar to line the rim of the glass. The kids had fun with the games on the tables while we adults talked and drank. My friends and I went here for their anniversary party and had a great time! I love Ono's Hawaiian theme. Their self serve system for customers to pour their own beer and pay as they go is great too! I really appreciated the pouring system, because it was easy to try all the beers available before choosing one to pour a pint of! This also makes it super easy to make your own flight of beer. I love this place for so many reasons. 1) the beer is really good. They have a nice selection of IPAs and lighter beers (the Howzit and Manako are my fav). I like the concept of the cards and the taps on the wall. You're not waiting on a bartender to fill your flight and you can get as many tasters as you want or a full pint. 2) the food is amazing! Imagine those cheddar biscuits from Red Lobster (but bigger and better) topped with brisket or pulled pork and real slaw...I'm a southern girl and I dream about the food here! 3) my kids were welcome. They haven't been super crowded when we've been and the tables are a decent size and they have games to keep them entertained. Our Magical Night at Ono If you want an easy, low key and professional event, Ono Brewery in Chantilly is the place. We chose Ono for post-elopement celebration with family and close friends. We wanted a low-key event that would be warm, welcoming and fun. Cyndi and Scott helped us immensely and were accommodating to all of our requests. They went above and beyond in every way. The beer is delicious, the space is immaculate and the service professional and friendly. Parking is easy and plentiful. The tour and explanation of the brewing process was a favorite of many. I have followed Ono since it opened this past summer and really like this place! The owners Scott and Cyndi Hoffman have put their hearts and souls into creating a place that serves great beer, is family friendly, showcases their Hawaiian experiences, builds community, and makes you feel welcome and like one of the family. Their self-serve beer wall model is unique and I love it. You receive a beer card that allows you the pour your own beers from the beer wall. You select and are in charge of the exact amount of beer you pour and get. You pay for only what you pour and drink. As someone who likes to try a variety of beers, but for health reasons can't drink large quantities, this is a perfect system. My husband samples a few, finds his favorite of the night (selections change and many are seasonal) and fills up. It is a win-win for all preferences. The beers are delicious and varied. You would be hard pressed not to find at least one that you love. Growlers are available and they are starting to be available/featured in local restaurants too. Ono is a great community brew house. The owners are always moving around the room talking to customers, swapping stories, giving tours, and they care deeply about customer feedback and experience. They host game nights (Bingo and they also have board games on hand to borrow and play while you are there), music performances (there is a great connection to the Hawiain community with traditional musicians and dancers performing), and even yoga. Since this is a self-service place, there are no waiters to tip. However, a tip jar is located at checkout and all money from it is donated to a local community charity/cause-of-the-month. Light packaged snacks are available for purchase, as are some sodas and water, but you may also bring in your own food or have food delivered there. They provide menus for local eating establishments too. I encourage everyone to stop by Ono and give them a try. I suspect they will become your new favorite go-to place. This is a new business and the owners want to make this a special place for everyone. As such, they are extremely receptive to comments and suggestions. First time going to Ono Brewing Company tonight and we had an all around wonderful time. We sat at a table with the mini shuffle boards and had a blast playing while we ate and drank. Ono Brewing quickly became one of my favorites. My Mother and I walked in with a warm welcome and noticed the self serve taps. We've never been to a place that was self serve beer taps before, so we were very interested. It's basically a Dave and Busters but when you swipe your card you get beer! The exact amount that YOU want of beer. There's 3 different sizes of cups. Even if you use a bigger cup you still pour the beer amount that YOU want and that's what YOU pay for. AMAZING. Haven't really tried their food, except the old bay seasoned popcorn, and it was delicious. 5 stars hands down. read more

Do you like good beer? I mean do you like good beer crafted by someone that obviously cares about craftsmanship? Come here and try their beers! Ono uses a card that you borrow after checking in at a front desk. The card is then placed on the taps and measures your pours and you're charged at the end by the oz. Honestly I'm not in love with this system but it did make it very easy to get taster portions of every beer. I filled up their taster glasses and the machine seemed to undercharge sometimes and overcharge others, I'm sure it depends on how far the tap is open but i'ts not a huge swing one way or another. The thing that really puts this place over the top is the BBQ. They have a former sous chef running his own bbq joint on location. It's delicious! We tried the beer cheese and it comes with a bunch of bread to dip as well as the white gravy chicken sandwich. I loved both.
