We have visited this location of Ono Hawaiian BBQ at least a dozen times, and for the last year the service has been a disaster. The staff are super friendly, but the last 6 times we've visited it has taken at least 20-25 minutes to get through the drive thru (even if there is only 1-2 cars) The owner/manager of this restaurant needs to establish an expectation to their staff on how long it should take, train them on how to achieve that goal, and then enforce it because until they fix their store I won't be returning. The food is always delicious, so major kudos to the kitchen staff on quality, but taking 25 minutes to get your order is a bit too much. read more

Stopped here with the family on Thursday for dinner and it did not disappoint. Upon walking in we could quickly tell that the employees' main focus was to get all the cars out of the drive thru. We waited about ten minutes to get helped. The employee was friendly though when he made his way on over to us. We ordered two plates. One grilled chicken plate with rice and macaroni salad and a Kalua pork / ribs combo plate that also came with rice and a macaroni salad. The food took about 15 minutes. We sat down and waited to be called. People kept coming to pick up orders to go and the drive thru line was non stop busy. Our number was called out and we sat down to eat. The food was HOT AND FRESH. The grilled chicken was DELICIOUS and you can never go wrong with the Kalua pork! It was SO GOOD. Don't expect to come here and get your food quickly as they are making it fresh. I do recommend the gilled chicken and Kalua pork! Did an online order and went to pick it up. The employee at the counter acknowledged me immediately and asked the kitchen if my order was ready. It wasn't, but another employee asked me within one minute of I needed help. This is the first ono Hawaii that I've been to that's had such attentive service. I can see there's definitely a niche for this but I wasn't a fan. I wasn't able to eat as much as the meat was very greasy. This was combo 14 so I could try a bit of the beef, chicken and ribs. I was only able to have 3 bites of the chicken (greasy) and ate some of the rice and I tasted the macaroni salad but tasted like Mayo so I didn't like it. Just felt unhealthy. The portion is huge, this probably could have turned into 3 meals for me but I end up throwing away. The service was nice and friendly and the place was clean. As usual, I was on the go from sports so was grabbing something quick and wanted to try something new. Although I wasn't a fan and wasn't able to eat much, I can see some might enjoy the huge portion and meat, I was just not a fan and greasy food makes me sick so I didn't even try too hard to eat it. Everything is DELICIOUS here!! I have been to many Ono locations and got really excited when I heard this location was opening up! I always get Kalbi, but this time I wanted to try some other items that they have on the menu. I made my life harder now because I just want everything every time I go now. Island Fire: This dish has a kick to it! I can't handle spice much, but I cannot keep my fork down. They sure know how to sauce this dish well! With the rice, it makes it extra yummy. Chicken Katsu: Made very crispy and juicy! BBQ Chicken: The sauce on this chicken is so good!! I love it with the salad. Island White Fish: Crisp to perfection! One of my favorite places to get fish now. The meal goes well with a fresh coconut! The best part is after drinking the liquid, the coconut pieces makes a great dessert! Customer service was great! I felt very welcomed and the staff is very friendly. They were answering all my questions and made sure I got everything that I needed for my order. Come visit this location and enjoy the awesome food! I have gone a few times already and will be going back for more! There are many items that I still want to try on the menu. The food from this restaurant is amazing. It is impossible to pick the wrong dish. When I found out that Ono was opening down the street from where I live, I had to place my order on opening day. Needless to say, I was not disappointed! Definitely tastier when compared to many other Hawaiian BBQ joints! Upon entering, I was greeted with the slight smell of sweet and spicy barbecue. The employees were very friendly and the establishment is well run and managed. Within each lunch dish they include a large scoop of rice, vegetables, mac slaw & the protein of your choice. This past time, I ended up ordering the Island Fire chicken & Chicken BBQ dishes. Both dishes are very flavorful. I highly recommend the Island Fire chicken if you like a blast of spicy chicken. It pairs very well with cooling ingredients, like rice. If you're into a more traditional BBQ taste, you'll like the BBQ Chicken! Comes with the perfect char. Chicken is very moist and juicy! With each lunch dish, you'll find portions made for two, I almost have left overs for the next meal! It's still tasty and moist even after reheating. We'll definitely come back. We order takeout from this location frequently. On our last visit we got fantastic service and really great food. We love the beef short ribs and the crab wontons. They always give you a lot of food which is enough to split. We had tried the crab wontons for the first time and was pleasantly surprised at how delicious they were. No crabby pants here. The macaroni salad was good. We also ordered the the Hawaiian Barbecue Beef and crab Rangoon. The beef was yummy too and large portion like the chicken was. More leftovers! Yay The crab puffs were so so. Not a lot to them. Very little filling inside. This location was clean and the staff was very attentive and friendly. I eat here relatively often, but i would never recommend ordering in their drive-thru ever. The food is great, however on more than two occasions I arrived at the drive thru and proceeded to wait 15 minutes just to place my order consisting of katsu chicken and spam musubi. After waiting another 10 minutes or so, I finally received my meal without any of the simple requests i had asked for, which was no teriyaki sauce on the musibi, and more mac salad. Neither of those changes were made despite being reflected on receipt. The worst part however, the chicken was nearly raw, heavily undercooked, concerningly and disgustingly pink and the order total was over $20. We were so happy when this location opened, and just a few minutes from our house, after the Gilbert & Germann location closed. Though we did travel to other nearby locations to get our fix! Being a newer locale, the business looks great, clean, and inviting. Service is friendly, attentive, and fast! Not fast-food fast, you don't want that as each dish is prepared to order. The Spam Masubi is a must-have! Though I wished they would slice it up for you. As a side, the macaroni salad has no equal. We usually feast on the delicious Hawaiian BBQ Chicken & BBQ Beef combo. How they get the chicken so tender is beyond me! We also prefer the Kalbi Short Ribs. Pure perfection! For a Korean household to rave about Hawaiian Kalbi (pronounced Karbee) says a lot! We tried Ono for the first time today and we really enjoyed it! The person that took our order was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and they got our food out really quick! We ordered the BBQ Chicken and BBQ Beef Aloha Plate and the Teriyaki Chicken and BBQ Beef Aloha Plate as well as crab Rangoon! My husband was a little surprised that the fire chicken had a strong curry flavor that he didn't really care for that much. We both really like the chicken as well as the side salad that had a carrot ginger dressing. The bbq beef was a little greasy tasting but still enjoyable. The crab Rangoon were good dipped into katsu sauce. This place is fantabulous! I really liked the various options although it took me a few to figure it all out because there was so much to choose from. I opted to try the Aloha Plate. A bed of steamed rice and a side of fresh mix salad with house dressing and my two chicken selections, Katsu and Fire Chicken. It was so much more than I anticipated. Fresh, crunchy salad and a large scoop of sticky rice. My Fire Chicken was SPIIIICY good. Mmm. It was my first time trying Katsu so I don't really have a baseline to judge the sauce but my chicken was great even without any additional flavor. It was tender chicken with a crunchy exterior that was similar to a fine panko crumb. My husband came along with me and he tried the grilled chicken breast plate. Plate lunches includes 2 scoops of rice, 1 scoop of their famous macaroni salad and what appears to be steamed mixed vegetables They offer a Katsu, Terriyaki, and at least one more sauce option at the counter along with soy sauce and hot sauce packets. It's pretty funny, he kept saying they gave him half of a chicken, there was just so much. We easily could have shared his entree and still had leftovers. Seriously, we both had plenty left over. Not off to a good start with this place. Guy who took the order in drive thru sounded like a real dbag . It's hard to convey rude, abrupt and incompetent thru a speaker box, but he managed. Ordered a # combo. Took 20 minutes of waiting in line to get my food. They gave me a different order than I wanted. Rice was okay, Mac salad was okay. Some of the beef was okay. The short rib was mostly inedible. Tough, chewy and grisly. Couldn't determine which part of bird the chicken came from. Very strange. Not pleased with this place , so I won't return. Spent over twenty minutes in line. When we got to the speaker box the man taking our order was very short and rude with us. He would cut us off when we would try to order and seemed bothered that we were even there. When we got to the window there was an older gentleman and a younger guy. They both seemed miserable and were very unfriendly. We waited almost another 10 minutes and it seemed liked no one in the store seemed to care or value our time and experience as customers. They currently don't have a dine in option at this location, however, there was no wait when we arrived. This restaurant was so poorly run. It took them 18 minutes to scoop out 4 scoops of macaroni salad and we still had to go up to the counter and ask for the food. We ordered 5 meals and spent over $100 and waited over 20 minutes. There were only two orders ahead of us. They also messed up our order but I didn't ask them to fix it because I knew I would have to wait again. When we spoke to the manager he acted like he didn't care at all. He told us that he had to put the orders out in order of the customer but the two people who ordered after us both got their orders before us. Even though the food was ok I would skip this restaurant and choose any other Hawaiian restaurant because you'll get better service and easily as good as food, maybe better. This is a chain. There are several around the Valley. The food seems to be pretty consistent, but not really spectacular. The portions are reasonable. We got teriyaki chicken, island fire chicken, and Hawaiian BBQ chicken. Most of it is served on a bed of cabbage, with scoops of white rice, and usually the macaroni salad. The differences in the teriyaki and the BBQ chicken are subtle. The island fire is a bit hotter than the others, and stands out for that reason. Not really THAT hot, but it has a bit of a kick. They were all pretty good. The mac salad is a staple of many Hawaiian plate joints. Theirs is pretty good. I hate mayo, but they do something so that you taste more than just mayo. Still not my favorite, but I always have a little bit of it. Overall, pretty much what I expected from an Ono. Pretty good flavors. Didn't knock my socks off, but pretty good. Food served fresh and hot. This particular store was very slow. They need more people, and even have a "now hiring sign" (or at least they did as of the date of this review). The cashier had other tasks do, running around packing food, not really sure what else as she disappeared a few times. So people have to wait to place their orders, and then wait some more while it is cooked, packed, and their number is called. The service was polite, but not really friendly. I suspect because she was stressed about all the things she had to do. Yeah, they really need another body or two so things run more smoothly. UPDATE: Just to add to my review, we got some spam musubi. We have a gift card balance, and I wanted to try it. The spam musubi is really weak. It's just plain rice with a slice of spam wrapped in nori. I've had this in Hawaii, and there is supposed to be a lot more flavor. I'm sure there are different versions, but the rice should be more than just plain rice. The slice of spam could have been thicker, too. You could hardly taste it. Just a big slab of rice. Not great. Two stars because I'm angry and still hungry. I've eaten at Ono for years in CA and portions have never been a problem. Until tonight! I decided to get the Aloha plate pick two and chose the fish and island fire chicken. It came with only one piece of fish and a meager portion of the chicken. I think there were equal pieces of onion in the chicken as there was actual chicken. The salad took up half of the clamshell and had next to no salad dressing on it. And under the fish and chicken was three scoops of rice. 90% of the plate was rice and salad and it was almost 11 bucks. Weak, very weak! My wife and kids got chicken Katsu plates and the portions were acceptable and flavor was good (though my former local Ono would stuff the clamshell) also the scoops of macaroni salad were lacking maybe finished it in three bites. Lastly almost 6 bucks for two Musubis is a bit steep, a can of spam is 3 bucks, Nori (seaweed) is 3 bucks, and the rice is pennies and that's retail prices! I can usually make 10 Musubis with these ingredients. I understand they have to pay their staff and rent but I got 2 katsu plates, the aloha platter and two orders of spam Musubis, out the door was 45 bucks! In the end I killed my meager Aloha platter in less than five minutes leaving the over served rice and non dressed salad and I sat at the table like a begging dog hoping my kids wouldn't finish their katsu.
