We usually have a good experience here, but this last time left a bad taste in our mouths (LITERALLY). We ordered take out and I usually love the Mac salad, but this time when we ate it it must have been prepared with something spoiled because it tasted like straight manure. I almost threw up. The rest of the food was prepared fine. They were closed by the time we wanted to call, and I'm not sure if anyone else has this experience on this night (Saturday 21 2023) but it was very off putting and I don't think we will be eating there again anytime soon. read more

I recently went to this location based on raves I have heard through the grapevine at school and work. I went in during lunch, around 1 PM and I will break down my review so it may be easier to read. Decor/Parking: So the restaurant is right off the freeway, next to Native grill. There is plenty of parking near it, but it competes with multiple big name dining opportunities in the area. Inside is okay at best, seating is a little cramped, but otherwise you hear "island" music. Service: The lady taking our order was nice enough, didn't welcome us, ask if we had any questions, nothing. Then when our order was ready, she barely said our number. She was busy on her cell phone. Food: The lunch plates were about $8 bucks each, and they give you PLENTY of food. I was shocked to see how much food you get, but it was worth it. I got the teriyaki chicken, and the sauce was great! My big problem was the chicken breast was so big, it tasted rubbery. I hated it. I took a few bites and threw the rest in the bin. Overall: I was a little upset about the overall quality for price paid. I wish the food was better, and I really wish the service was better. It's a pretty solid establishment; I frequent my closest Ono's whenever I'm up for it. I usually order their BBQ & Katsu plate as my go to because I like the beef and the chicken katsu is pretty good too! I have ordered the island fire chicken before and it had pretty decent heat, and the portion size is good too! I usually have an enjoyable experience going here! MOST of the cashiers are friendly, but it seems like every time I go in it takes at least 15 minutes for my food to come out. Or perhaps my cashier wasn't familiar with the options.*** post meal thoughts*** I spent 12$ and I feel like I've eaten so little! There's so much steamed cabbage in my tray and I don't think my family would appreciate if I ate it all hah! You literally have to be an idiot to work here. It's sucks because the food is great so I keep going back just for that. However, there has NOT been one single time a worker is incompetent with their duties. Last month was food sitting on the side with phone order when I was waiting for over 20 mins, today was cashier couldn't even figure out how to put in the receipt paper correctly, then forgot to give me my card back. We keep giving this place second and third chances but it's getting annoying now. I actually really really like their food. It's super tasty! The spam misubi things seem to be there for people that are real Hawaiian. Like, people who like it really like it. And it's not something you can get just anywhere. They're ok, just nothing to write home about. Everything else is very good. Really heart and satisfying meals. You don't get the above and beyond type of customer service people seem to demand around here. But I think great food trumps mediocre customer service. I've been here a few times and the food is sometimes hit and miss depending on who is working the kitchen. It's usually average, but usually the issue is the lack of courteousness and customer service. It's similar to what you would expect from a drive through in terms of customer service. If the prices were more in line with fast food and drive through prices, then I would be a little bit more accepting of the quality of customer service. I got the platter with fish, shrimp and chicken and an order of crab Rangoon, and I can't complain about any of them. The reason I rated them 3 was the amount of time I waited for my food.I came here twice so far and both times I have waited long times. My wait time was about 20 minutes. OMG! Ordered dinner tonight from this restaurant, through Postmates..!! Order was delivered. The bag the food was packaged in, was leaking with some sort of sauce...food was cold. Mac salad was runny and brown..could have been from the sauce, who knows. We are a few bites and decided it wasn't good...I sent a complaint to Postmates, and they refuse to refund the money. The food is always good but customer service needs to be worked on. We got rude looks from Amber, who was working the cash register, and the other young girl who was standing there with her. They were on their phones and talking to each other, ignoring customers waiting to order. None of the cooks in the back looked happy to be there either. We didn't get a thank you or even a smile from anyone there. The only time I saw Amber smile was when a customer who seemed to be a regular walked in. As they left, she didn't even look up from her phone as she said, "thank you come again." But like I said the food is always good! I'm not sure why they are only a 2 1/2 star? We don't have many Hawaiian BBQ places here in AZ, however I'd say Ono's is one of my favorites. I've ordered the Chicken Katsu, Short Ribs, and BBQ beef, and everything is always delicious. I absolutely love their Mac Salad as well. They also have different combos so that you can try a little bit of everything. Their customer service isn't great, and if you want super authentic Hawaiian food, well you'll have to go to Hawaii, however for what they have, I'd say it's pretty good. read more

We got two of the mix plates: 1) with teriyaki chicken, rice, cabbage and macaroni salad (the chicken was moist and tender, the macaroni salad was great) 2) with beef bulkogi, chicken Katsu and pork (all of which were tender and delicious! Have tried this place on 3 different occasions, the last and final one being today. The service was TERRIBLE. I was the ONLY person in the place and the woman behind the counter made me wait, without even acknowledging my existance while she looked through some sort of tickets. I then asked if I could place my order and then she said, (without even looking up from the stack of paper) "in a minute." So I just stood there staring at her. BAD start! Food is very greasy and chicken was very fatty and majority of it was not edible. The positive of the place is that the portion size is large. Honestly, I would only come here for the spam musubi. The spam musubis are good, but I didn't like the plates. I got a beef plate that came with rice and macaroni salad. First, they gave such little rice, that I had to just go home and make more rice because they didn't give enough to complement the beef. The beef was okay.. a little red in the middle and a little charred/burned on the outside. The mac salad wasn't good though. It felt watery and had way too much mayo in it. We have eaten at this location several times. All other times we have substituted cabbage for the macaroni salad and that's the only way we like it. We actually look forward to that combo. If you look at the intake they only have one air filter and it is extremely dirty and their vent isn't the prettiest. Not the best place to eat in because of the air quality.
