    Kobe Beef Nabe
    Jeslyn X.

Such a cute restaurant! It's decorated in Japanese food street style - like a miniature Osaka. But their dishes were expensive. They claim that all ingredients are air-shipped from Japan, but I wonder how fresh the seafood can be after being shipped all the way here versus sourcing it locally. Back to the food. We tried the Kobe Beef Nabe, which seemed to be the only item for two that was reasonably priced. It was pretty good - the beef slices were tender, and the soup base was flavorful. There were cabbage, tofu, and kimchi in the pot too. The Wasabi Octopus was tasty too - the sweet-salty kind of marination mixed with wasabi was refreshing. Service was nice, and the staff were friendly. Overall, it's a cute place just a bit too pricey. The interior of this place transports you to the small alleyways of Osaka, filled with Japanese bars and restaurants. Great décor and unique atmosphere compared to other Japanese / sushi restaurants out there. The seating areas are divided into small stalls with tables of varied sizes. I was expecting this place to be bustling and busy, but when we came, it was almost empty. Upon being seated, we got wet towels (perhaps for the lobster) and tea that was very nice and fragrant (tasted like rice tea). The menu presents a lot of choices - mostly donburis (rice bowls) topped with various fresh seafood, but they also have torched sushi, claypot rice, and a la carte sashimi. The visual menu with big photos is helpful. In addition to the regular menu, they also have monthly specials on a separate laminated menu. Menu items are more on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for - heaps of fresh, high-quality sashimi presented and arranged so beautifully that sometimes it takes a long time to take photos before starting to eat (luckily you don't have to worry about the food getting cold). Staying true to the what the Japanese are known for, they pay very close to attention to detail and presentation. Our Lobster Donburi came with a lobster claw holding a beautiful hand-folded fan with flower pattern. In addition to lobster sashimi, it also came with cooked lobster legs in the shells (needed pliers to crack them open), abalone (already pre-cut), ikura (salmon roe), lots of salmon and tuna sashimi, red caviar / fish roe, and small slices of cucumber to add a nice crunch and freshness. BBQ Unagi, Scallops, and Tamago Donburi contained a lot more rice compared to the Lobster Donburi. The unagi was too saucy and sweet to my liking, but it was still decent and they have a pretty good portion (pretty thick eel). The scallops were half-torched so they were excellent. The tamago (egg) was also torched around the edges. Aburi Sushi was good with a tasty sauce and topped with a bit of microgreens and fish roe. It had a good fish-to-rice ratio. The aburi selection was all fish (salmon, different cuts of tuna, unagi, and some other fish that I couldn't tell what they were - maybe mackerel, halibut, and/or yellowtail). I wish it included seafood in the mix (shrimp, scallop, squid, octopus, surf clam / hokkigai, etc.). The torching was well done - they cut the fish slices thin enough and were able to get it torched at the top to make it have a nice seared taste, without overcooking the bottom.

Instagram made me do it! Tucked away in a plaza in Scarborough that I've never been to. The atmosphere and decor was great but the food was very average. We walked in with no reservations and got seated right away. However the food took forever to come out .. approximately 45mins for three dishes. Ordered the chef special nigiri, eel and scallops don, and the torched salmon don which I ordered instead the raw salmon don. The sashimi pieces came out warm? The soy sauce was very very low sodium, and the didn't provide ginger unless requested. I usually read the menu before visiting but I didn't this time and was shocked to see majority of the dishes were $50+. Come for the vibes but not the food.

If you're looking for a place to surprise your date, take them here! It doesn't even feel like you're in Scarborough. The food features some of the best-quality fish I've ever had. The service was friendly and quick to respond. While it's on the pricier side, the experience is absolutely worth it.

Rating would be 3.7/5, rounding up to 4/5. Went here finally after seeing it on social media so many times. No reservations made and got seated at the bar-like section. Service was definitely a 5/5, everyone was so kind and there was no wait time for them to come to you. Menu was extensive, kind of all over the place but it was more of a fun looking book. Price was quite high, perhaps because it's mostly uni, ikura and crab. The chef's choice for the premium sushi fish was really tough, forgot the name - sounds like "coriander" when the guy told me. Torched salmon don and unagi steak was great. The scallop was okay, not my favourite. It does look like you're in Japan when you get inside as if you transported. I wouldn't come here again but maybe on a special occasion and would try the crab.

For a few hours, I thought I was in Japan. The decor was amazing and had that wow factor for me. The menu had so many choices. Where to start lol. We ordered: - A side of uni from Japan, my favourite of the night. It was sweet and light to the palette. Simply exquisite. - Premium seasonal Sashimi, a wide variety of delicious morsels for the tasting. Never a dull moment! - Otoro uni don, a bowl of otoro, uni, and fish roe with rice to satisfy the craving. - Salmon Ikura don, simple yet delectable slices of salmon, accompanied by salmon caviar that tantalized the taste bud. It was the perfect meal. The service was great. The only thing I think they can improve on is when it was time to pay, they don't accept split payments. Other than that, I would go back again.

I managed to try out this amazing restaurant in the new location in the same Plaza featuring their January special kamikaze lunch for an incredible price of $38 ! Service was good, they came to check in from time to time to make sure everything was OK. They were also super accommodating for two babies who came with their car seats and seated us at a table with a lot of space. everything tasted great, and the fish is very fresh. Also, really love the decor... Does it not remind you of the markets in Japan? Step into this restaurant and you feel like you've been transported across the ocean

This place is known for their donburi and they offer Japanese uni!!!! Came recently for their New Year set offered throughout January. For $38, you get everything seen in the picture which i thought was a great deal. Everything was delicious for the most part! Even tho the skewers on the grill were cold and it wasnt really grilling. But nice presentation regardless. Big portions and a lot of food!

This place now has been renovated in a new location within the same plaza in Bamburgh Circle. Love the new interior decor - really makes you feel you have travelled to Japan directly - with the bright colours, neon lights and a variety of signage and ambient vibes. Contrary to my initial review years ago, they have revamped their menu items with brand new things that are much more on the pricey end. I had the chance to try their Lobster Salmon Sashimi don. Presentation wise is very IG worthy - it is very impressive. Quality wise - it was actually very good! Everything was fresh and it was quite filling as well. There was much more fish than rice - and to my surprise, I was quite full from eating the fish as well. It is a total game changer from previous setup - I really enjoyed it. The dishes are more premium now - so it's more suitable for celebratory purposes vs. regular sushi/sashimi fix.

The decor is really nice, it's like stepping into Japan. There's tables for seating or a few different types of bar seating. Unfortunately the tables are really close together and it was hard to squeeze out if I had to leave or use the washroom. There is a very large menu with a lot of combos and choices. I was actually shocked by the high prices since this was a very casual vibe spot. They give disposable chopsticks, artificial wasabi, and the servers are not dressed like this is a nice Japanese restaurant. We got the Kobe Don and seasonal sashimi after a hard time deciding. The portion size was good. The kobe Don was served with a raw egg yolk. It was supposed to be rare but for some reason it was fully cooked. The sashimi was fresh and had good variety - different fattiness tunas, salmon, sweet shrimp, scallop, abalone, and more. Overall the food is good but overpriced. If you happen to come here, bring cash for a discount. Washrooms were not the cleanest, but they are ground floor and accessible. Service was just ok, when we asked for recommendations the server just told us everything was worth trying.

I saw this place on BlogTo and was curious to try it out because it brought back memories of our trip to Japan back in 2018. The decor is really neat and it looks like separate kiosks but really it's just one restaurant with one kitchen. We ordered the the following: Kobe beef Nabe $48 Haru Bokksu $90 Tempura Ramen $48 Salmon sushi $2 each (6 pieces) The food tasted fresh but it was a bit underwhelming for the price. There wasn't much vibe maybe because it wasn't busy Sunday (first thing when it opened at noon). The service was very good. The chef was very nice and the servers were pleasant and attentive. If you are looking for more exotic sushi and feel adventurous then this place is something you might want to try. But if you're like me and like the everyday sushi like salmon sushi, dynamite rolls, aburi, traditional tempura and salmon sashimi then you're better off to eat somewhere else. There is ample parking it's located at The Bamburgh Circle Plaza.

Really nice ambiance, and polite service. This is a place to splurge. I ordered a torched salmon don ($28) and the salmon had a nice smokey flavour. I got the lean pieces but it was still good quality. The presentation was lacking a bit because it looked like the salmon was dipped in boiling water instead of torched. The rice was perfectly seasoned. I'm sure if I ordered something else from the menu it would have been much nicer.

What a fabulous place! I was immediately taken aback when I stepped into the restaurant and saw the decor. I absolutely loved the ambiance and felt a little taste of Japan. We came in for the special omakase lunch and were pleasantly surprised. There was a lot of delicious selection and we couldn't even finish! Luckily we could take our leftovers home (a takeout box cost $1). Our server was so sweet and friendly we absolutely enjoyed having her check on us and explain to us what was being served. She was really enthusiastic! I felt that for the value of the meal it was very much well worth it! We all had a wonderful time!

There's no reservation system but they do have a waitlist on Yelp which gets you in line (highly recommended). First to know is you can't pay with credit card here--there's an ATM in the front of the restaurant. As far as the restaurant goes, it was fantastic from start to finish. Our table of 4 was seated and serviced by 1 main staff member, Lydia, who talked us through the whole menu and ordering system, recommended some great starts and then kept us frequently updated all throughout dinner. She checked up on us along with her assistants who were also bringing items and servicing the table. The food quality was excellent with juicy and flavorful cuts of beef along with the shrimp, pork, veggies, side dishes/ponchon, and rice--it kept coming consistently. Grill changes were frequent as well. The atmosphere is lively and there are a lot of servers so you aren't trying get someone's attention all the time. But it doesn't feel too cramped at the same time. As it is AYCE, everyone in our group left full of course and enjoyed each course. I liked the almond tofu at the end! ----TL;DR---- Pros: great selection of meats, quality was top notch, huge portions of course as it is AYCE, service was prompt and all staff were really friendly. Cons: no reservations so need to be on a waitlist. The no credit card system is a bit of an inconvenience. Bottom Line: we loved it--definitely would go back again and enjoy more of their selections! You have to try them if you like meat and AYCE!

It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). Location is super convenient near Bay & Dundas, ambiance is very casual, and service is quick.
