We needed to make a road trip to Avon for some Christmas items my wife was only able to find an hour away from home. The long trip was justified in my mind (and belly) when we decided to grab an early dinner at Opa!. We have been especially mindful of COVID precautions and Opa's did not disappoint. The dining room is quite large so we had no difficulty when requesting a table away from other patrons. The staff wore masks. They even had a hand sanitizer dispenser near the front door that I was able to use both coming and going. I didn't have occasion to use the restroom but my wife said it was spotless. But what about the food? We ordered the gyros and they were arguably the best we've ever had! The pita was soft and tasty. The meat was second to none. Even the French fries were some of the best I've ever enjoyed. :-) We had a nice chat with the owner before we left and took home a few desserts that we were able to enjoy later that evening. Fantastic! But there is a dark cloud behind that silver lining....now we need to find another reason to take a one-hour road trip so we can once again enjoy the fantastic food and atmosphere at Opa! read more

This place is fantastic. Been here a few times now and every time I come to town I stop in at least once. This place is one reason I actually stay in Avon when I come to Indy. I've tried about half the menu and everything has been excellent. All the lamb dishes were awesome especially the chops cooked perfectly (medium rare) per my request. I've lived in Avon for a while but just tried Opa! recently, and now I'm so sad it took me so long to get there. The atmosphere is great and the service was excellent and friendly. For an appetizer, you have to get the flaming cheese. Otherwise, it's highly likely that a table next to you will order and the second you see that huge flame, you'll know you missed out. (Plus, the cheese and pita are so tasty. Even my picky eater son loved it.) I've never had spanakopita before dinner here so I can't tell you how it compares to anywhere else but for me, it was perfect. And holy portions! Almost every entree comes with sides of rice, potatoes, and green beans. So you're definitely going to leave full and probably have enough leftovers for another meal. Very professional. Alyssa is another friend and very professional and friendly as well. The food always seems to please and the bigger portions lets me take leftovers for lunch the next day. This review is on the service not the food, the food was Great. We came in on Sat at 6pm. We got seated immediately and it took 10 min for Joni our server to come by. Still after our drink order an additional 10 min before she came by to drop them off. In the meantime the gentleman next to us ask for the check. During the entire time we waited on our food this man waited for her to give him back his card. New people were seated next to us and the same thing happened. Wait Wait Wait. When we received our food we did not see her once. Our table and the table next to us were out of drinks. I got upset and going to find the manager that seen how upset I was and came by. This man tried to help but it was to late. He made Joni come to the table and check on us. As I was leaving the manager stopped me and said next time ask for someone else, he said he know she is slow but she doesn't believe so. The whole place needs to be fixed starting with the manager. He needs to be checking on the customers all the time. We will not be back. read more

OMG! Opa is my new favorite! The atmosphere is great, service is fabulous (Nina was my waitress) and food is fabulous!! Started off with the Flaming Saganaki served flaming with pita quarters it was absolutely to die for. Perfect combo of lemony salty melty cheese. Main course was the Gyros dinner plate. There was enough food for 3 ( lucky me I have leftovers). The zaziki sauce they serve is made in house and was so fantastic. I finished with their in house made baklava. Nina set it down and immediately there was cinnamon and honey goodness wafting from my dessert! I have to say this was by far the best traditional Greek food I've had in a long while. I would love to say I have eaten here but sadly I keep getting through the door and same rude server is there to great me. One time she just left us standing by the door with only one table there. No hello how are you, no what can I get you drink just throws our menus down and leave (one time she didn't even give us that! ). I'm not sure why she is so hostile but I really wish I could try this Greek food. I went in recently this past week and she was so upset I sat outside she never came back for my drink order. 16 minutes later we left. This was my first time here, it comes highly recommended in Avon. The service was excellent, she was really fantastic. My lamb chops were well above medium so next time I go I'll order them medium rare instead of medium to see if the temp is more my request, these were medium well and above. The rest of the meal was very good, no complaints at all there. My only complaint was the tacky TVs around, this isn't a bar and grill so I'm not sure why they were there. I found them very distracting, they were playing Fox News, I have nothing against Fox News but I go out very rarely and when I do, I don't want to watch the news, talk about the news or have a TV hanging on the wall above my husbands head distracting me. I want to relax and enjoy the company I'm with. Turn off the TVs, people come to socialize at dinner, you can watch TV at home. read more

We recently moved back to the west side so making the drive to some of our favorite Greek spots had become a lot harder and then my brother mentioned OPA! in Avon. So one Sunday night we were doing some shopping in Avon and decided to try them out. This location has been many different restaurants since my high school days but the decor and setup looks great. There is definitely room to accommodate large parties as one with around 20 people was seated when we arrived. We were quickly seated and greeted by our server. (Side note - wobbly tables are a huge pet peeve of mine! Check your tables!). Started off with the hummus appetizer, though we really wanted Baba Ganoush, which sadly is not an offering here. My 5 year old was more bummed than I was but quickly recouped when a large plate of warm pita bread was delivered to the table. My husband and I both ordered the Gyros Platter (meat, tzatziki, pita, rice, green beans, potatoes) and the kid got the Kids Pastitsio. The platter was more food that I could finish in one seating but was fantastic. I wasn't sure how my occasionally picky kid was going fare with her food but I was feeling optimistic since we went with an item outside her norm of pizza, burgers, nuggets, etc. While she didn't want the potatoes and green beans she at the whole portion of Pastitsio!!! Mom win!!! Overall attentive service, good food, and pleasant atmosphere (though a little loud). I would love to see Baba Ganoush and a sampler platter added to the menu but that's not enough to stop me from coming here. read more

Finally, a Greek restaurant in Avon worthy of praise! We ordered what is usually called "firey feta dip" (don't ask me to pronounce it - "tikokafteri"), and it was delicious. Not as flavorful as what's served at Athen's on 86th, but still yummy. Garlic, more spice, maybe a little finer grate on the cheese. Who am I kidding, I'll still order it every time! I ordered the loaded chicken breast (topped with spinach, red peppers and feta). It was marinated, cooked and presented on point! Tzatziki is thick so it sticks to the food like it should. Comes with baked lemon roasted potatoes, rice pilaf (no almonds! Yay!), green beans cooked in tomatoes and seasoning, and a nice serving of soft and warm pita bread. It was all absolutely perfect. My spouse ordered the gyro. It's oddly not served with a big pita that you can stuff the toppings in, and the feta is served as a big hunk of cheese, which at first we thought was weird, but it turns out slicing the cheese and putting it on top of the pita with the meat worked out very well. The meat was lightly seasoned standard gyro meat - not spicy - and very tender. We saved half of both for lunch the next day. I wish I could share with you a photo of the tiramisu, but I regretfully dove in so fast I forgot to snap a picture. It was divine, just know that. They're just getting their bearings so the server was still getting used to the sell, but once she finds her confidence she'll be great. Not at all worth docking a star. Picky eaters, you're in luck! They have pasta, steaks, chicken, burgers and an abundant selection of wine and beer. If you're in Avon and want a nice dinner, I highly recommend! We will be back without a doubt! I had a great first time visit at OPA! Be sure to start off with the Opa Flaming Saganaki. You won't regret it. Huge menu that can cater to anyone's taste. I got the chicken breast platter and it came with pita bread, grilled chicken strips, traditional sauce, feta, tomato and lettuce, potato, rice pilaf, green beans, and a Greek salad. What a deal. I didn't like that the chicken strips were very long and my pita slices were too small, so I had trouble cutting the chicken and fitting all the toppings. It was a bit of a hassle so I started to eat the ingredients separately and I was making a mess. I wish I would had gotten it in a wrap so it was already together. Also with all that on one plate (salad comes first though) the juice from the tomato was seeping under the pita making it soggy and I didn't notice. Wish it was diced tomatoes so I could have easily put in on the pita bread instead of having to cut a big slice of tomato. I was a fan of the potatoes, but I didn't care for the green beans. As for the whole experience, I could tell that the waitresses didn't seem excited to be there. The service was alright but the waitresses weren't very friendly and happy. Even when someone ordered a flaming cheese appetizer they would say opaaaaaaa with no excitement. The dining area looks really nice especially with the murals of Greece architecture but the chairs seem to be old as the material is ripping and pealing. It was also quite noisy in there. So overall I was going to give 3 stars but because of the awesome appetizer I decided to up it. Definitely give this place a shot! read more

I've been here multiple times now and this will probably be one of the few places I'll find in the MidWest that isn't in a major city that has close to authentic Greek Food! Their gyros are amazing, the cheese pies are amazing, the skewers are phenomenal. The atmosphere really gives a nice Greece vibe with giant painted watery mural scenes, plates being broken to honor someone's birthday, to the faux brick interior. Staff is always friendly and welcoming. The owner occasionally makes an appearance and is wonderful himself. read more
