Just had an early dinner here and it was very nice. The restaurant is new and states on the sign that it is "European and American Cuisine," which is pretty accurate. The menu has a bunch of Greek appetizers and a variety of gyros, but also has pizzas, burgers, and some less-than-Greek entrees, but this was fine with us! I had the hummus gyro, which really is just hummus, lettuce, tomato, onion, cucumber, and balsamic glaze. Simple, but delicious. My mom had a shrimp appetizer (I forget the name...) which was also very good. This is not a strictly Greek restaurant, but it is clean, friendly, yummy, and has accommodations for kids and families. I can only review what I tried, which is their Kopanisti chicken and their regular gyro. They really pack these pitas to the maximum. The wife and I had cravings for gyro this past weekend so we were very happy to find this place. Had an original gyro and a spicy chicken kopanisti as well as the hummus and falafel appetizer. Everything was delicious and the gyros were about the biggest I've ever seen, kind of had to start eating it like a salad before I could comfortably pick it up and continue. Was okay, got the platter that many raved about. Asked for it to be spicy, got charged 2 or 3 bucks. For wasn't spicy. Only got a few small pieces of peta bread with the platter - asked for an bit more pita bread -- also got charged a 2 or 3 dollars for that. This place is a hidden gem, we would have never discovered it without Google maps. The food here is absolutely amazing always tastes like its made fresh. I always get the lemon soup and the gyro platter and my wife gets the spicy chicken gyro platter. It is so much food and so good that your brain keeps telling you to eat but your stomach throws in the towel. The owner makes you feel like your part of his family and the waitresses are always very polite and friendly. We wish this place was closer to us so we could also do takeout. Phenomenal! The gyro is so large I had to eat it with a fork! Well seasoned. Had to try the great potatoes and grape leaves. My girl friend and I had a delicious dinner date last evening. Two main dishes, one chicken and the other the mixed seafood pasta and Greek salad! Greek favors were some of the best I have had in the US. Friendly service too. Full plate of food for an entree, may need to get a take-out box for the lighter eater, two meals. Restaurant is not fine dining atmosphere, tables, few booths however comfortable with a good take-out business and growing dining affair. I believe business started May '15. The only drawback is it is not in a more trafficked area, but only 2 miles NE of downtown Pottstown. It is worth the drive and is found easily on gps. $$ very reasonable & BYOB. Our second visit. The first was so great we had to come back. The first time we didn't realize it was 15 minutes before closing. They treated us like royalty without any rush. The Grecia Pasta and Pasta Athena were both outstanding. They use all fresh homemade ingredients. Service was superb. We had baklava for dessert. It was amazing! First time here on a slow Sunday night. Place is really clean and pretty inside. Service was somewhat slow but ok. We had spinach pie app which we did not enjoy - too much mint. The 4 dip platter with pita was wonderful. They made a huge plain pasta dishes for my 9 year old daughter and husband and I split the panini with pepperoni which was very good. We ate lunch here on a Sunday afternoon after going to Jake's Flea Market. The food was awesome and the owner and waitress were very friendly. We ordered the Saganaki Opa Vera appetizer, which was goat cheese which the owner poured liquor and lit on fire right at the table and finished it off with fresh lemon juice. It was served with wedges of pita bread. Yummy! I had one of the most delicious panini sandwiches ever - the Greek panini which had gyro meat and tasted like a gyro in a panini - but less messy! Been here 3 times now in as many weeks. Truly great Greek staples: hummus, gyros, salad, and pitas/dips. Service is uniformly attentive and genuine; brought kids and they enjoyed their food as well (hand-breaded chicken tenders and calamari). We stopped there for our anniversary Sunday. It was after the lunch rush so it was relatively quiet. Our waitress Judy was extremely friendly and helpful. The place is nice and open inside. My wife had hummus and a Greek salad. I order the Spicy Gyro. The gyro was enormous!, The spicy feta chicken was so good. Just the right amount of lettuce and tomatoes. Some place load it with onions and shredded lettuce and skip the meat and flavor. NOT Opa Vera. The hummus my wife ordered was to die for. The absolute best hummus you will ever eat. So glad a Greek restaurant opened in Pottstown and just 5 minutes from my house! I'm 25% Greek and the only time I used to get good Greek food out is 2 times a year at St. Sophia's Church Festival. The Greek salad is great. I love the creamy garlic dressing that they serve with it. The gyro is good and has feta cheese on it, which I have not had before on a gyro, but really like. I love the tzatziki sauce, which I have them place on the side. They always give me a nice large side. The gyro meat is not overly salty or overly dry like other restaurants tend to serve, and is nice and tender. I am guessing it is made with mostly lamb. The chicken lemon rice soup is terrific. It is similar to my mom's Greek soup, creamy and tasty. I highly recommend trying it! Baklava is also good with lots of layers and drips with honey sauce, just like I like it. Service is friendly and attentive. I like the food much better here than Greco Roman in Norristown and Olive Tree in Exton. We get take out often. I would love it if they offered delivery. read more

Had dinner here again last night. Of course it was fantastic! The owner is so friendly and welcoming, wait staff very attentive. The food is wonderful we had the kopanisti was deliously spicy, the opa chops were cooked perfectly along with delicious sides of sauted fresh veggies, spinach and feta infused rice, and lemon potatoes. All 3 were fantastic. The chicken platter was also delicious and included their fresh cut french fries along with the best Greek salad ever. I highly recommend you try this hidden jem. read more

My wife and I were looking for a new place that was BYOB and decided to try here after Saturday church. So glad we did! Started with calimari Mykonos, which just may be THE BEST most flavorful calimari I've ever had, and also spanakopita. Wife had a large spinach salad with salmon and I had chicken Argos. Lots of flavors and huge portions. We couldn't finish and looking forward to enjoying more tomorrow. Finished with backlava and Greek coffee. I work close to Opa Vera's so they're my go-to lunch when I've got some extra cash in the wallet to eat out. My favorite item on the menu by far is the Grilled Chicken Gyro. I don't know what it is about it...the mysterious creamy garlic sauce, the moist chunks of chicken, the warm soft pita, or the fact that i need to eat some of the veggies out first before I can pick it up! If I had my way I'd have one of these bad boys every week. But that's not to say there aren't other amazing options on this menu. They have surprisingly good wings for being a Greek restaurant. The Island Pasta is terrific. There are a few others that I can't think of off the top of my head. I also really like their baklava. I'm very impressed with the menu, with the staff and their endearing nature, the price point, and just the whole experience. This place is set up more for dining in, including the BYOB option, but i think it works best for take-out. If I were to give a suggestion, that's the angle I'd get at. Maybe start delivering! Who knows? Good place all around, and definitely worth the drive up the hill. read more

This was a first visit to this month old restaurant. We had the fried smelt appetizer which 2 diners agreed tasted like "fair food" meaning greasy batter coating without mch flavor. Two of us ordered gyros. They were stuffed with a lot of lettuce, but not much meat and very little tzaziki. Another in our party ordered the calamari platter. Flavor was about the same as the smelts. That platter came with a salad with only a few toppings and fries on the side. Service was very slow. Overall, we were disappointed in our dining experience. That's unfortunate because there aren't any other Greek restaurants in the area. One positive is that the place looks newly renovated and clean. read more

I've been dying to try this place after reading all of these outstanding reviews and I finally had the opportunity this past weekend. Opa Vera's is the epitome of a hidden gem! The location is a bit interesting and from the outside it doesn't look like much, but on the inside you will find a nice, clean, casual dining atmosphere. We sat ourselves immediately as there were no other customers in the restaurant (5:30 pm on Saturday.. Eep!). Our server, Louis, was sweet, attentive, and personable. The menu is substantial- offering mostly Greek/European specialties, but it also includes several American staples as well. If you can't find something to order, you better stay home ;) We started with the fried calamari app. The portion was an actual mountain as our server described. The calamari was more breaded than I'd prefer as I tend to enjoy it best with little-no breading, but that was really easy to ignore. The side of marinara sauce that came with it was super flavorful. We also ordered the spicy chicken gyro to split. Because we mentioned we were going to share, our server actually told the kitchen who made us each our own individual one (versus receiving one large platter). I love when restaurants are so accommodating when you want to split/share entrees. It's not that we are sharing to be cheap- we simply want to order multiple items to maximize our tasting experience. The gyro was delicious! I can't remember the name of the sauce that was inside but wow.. So good! The chicken had a tiny kick to it, no lingering spiciness that I was expecting, but it was so tender and flavorful! We also ordered the Grecian pizza. OMGGG.. Our favorite!! I am still dreaming of this pizza days later! Several guests (6-7 tables?) did eventually show up after us, so I'm really hoping this place gets the business it needs and DESERVES to stick around.
