I recently spotted Opelia when my husband, friends, and I had dinner at Épernay Bistro next door. I realized that Opelia was formerly Sidecar Tavern, which we hadn't been to in such a long time. I was interested in checking out the new establishment, so I made a reservation for dinner on a Thursday evening when making arrangements with my friend for a catch up. My husband and I were running a few minutes behind our 7pm reservation, but my friend was able to retrieve our table while waiting for our arrival. Opelia was a cozy and intimate restaurant. It was very dimly lit. I did find our table sandwiched too close to the tables next to us, which made it awkward squeezing into our seats. Overall service was excellent. Our waitress' name was K/Carina, and she was sweet and highly attentive. She was intent in finding out how we liked everything we ate. Major bonus points for the food coming out in a timely manner, especially since it was considerably busy. We started off with a few appetizers including the octopus, fries, and souvlaki. Grilled octopus is one of my favorite Mediterranean small plates, and I found that Opelia's prepares it the best. The texture of the octopus was perfectly tender yet had a nice crispness on the outside. I also liked the arugula salad and beans. The guys thought the souvlaki was going to come out like sliced gyro meat, but I had a feeling it was going to be more like cubed meat. I was right, but I liked that it was like a tomato stewed beef. Don't sleep on the crunchy toast that came with it. Couldn't get enough of the fries! I had the braised lamp shank for my entree, which was excellent. I tried the moussaka that my husband ordered, and I have to admit that I was hoping it was more like the traditional, comfort food version that I'm used to (potatoes, bechamel, eggplant, and ground beef). I get it... there are different types of moussaka, but Opelia's tasted like an eggplant parmesan to me. Loved the dessert that we ordered for the table. It was an Anatolian bread pudding filled mascarpone sabayon. We had it with the recommended side of vanilla goat cheese ice cream. Everything about this dish surprised me. The bread pudding was like a honey soaked bread, and the marscarpone filling was divine. The goat cheese ice cream was sweet and smooth - not tart like how goat cheese can typically be. We went to this place for drinks as we were in Los Gatos on 31st December. This place is beautifully decorated love the ambiance and service. However, the drinks we ordered Mardini and Badam I saba both were lacking taste. We had a very high expectation from this place. But we didn't tried the food as we already had a reservation at Coup de thai. Just on the basis of drink it was very underwhelming but we will come back here next time for food. read more

We shared the meze platter and fries, both of which we'd order again in a heartbeat. My husband had the lamb shank and I had the sea bass, both also delicious. Service was friendly without being overattentive, which I appreciated. Cocktails were just OK, next time I'd skip a cocktail and just go straight to wine. Definitely less polished than Dio Deka but we liked the ambiance (tables are a little close together however). read more

Visited with as a party of six on an early Friday evening and the place was beginning to get busy. They offer both patio and interior dinning. Our reservation was for the dining room, which has a warm and welcoming vibe. We were seated immediately, followed by excellent service throughout the meal. To start we ordered cocktails and a cold appetizer sampler for the table. Both were good, but the cold Mezes sampler plate was an outstanding mix of badimcan, beet borani, kereviz, tokat, sarma, olives, tatziki, ezme, marash, olive oil with pita bread. Although the house craft cocktails were also good, most of us felt they lacked the unique flavors of true mixologist crafted drinks. As entrée's my wife had the Kuzu Pirzola, which is Lamb Chops and I tried the Manti Merguez, a meat dumpling in a tomato sauce with lamb meatballs. Both were very good, but again, neither really popped in flavor. Overall the restaurant offers a great opportunity to try very good Turkish cuisine and excels at customer service. read more

Loved our date night meal at Opelia. Rough experience on the way in with the host who pretended we weren't there, questioned our reservation and then reluctantly seated us at the bar. But from there dinner was great. The bartenders were amazing - I had an alcohol-free pineapple mojito and my wife had a glass of wine. We started with the Meze Combo and then my moussaka was fantastic. My wife enjoyed her Wagyu burger. The food here is solid. We loved the lamb lollypops, as well as the stuffed salmon and steak. The wine here is also pretty good, I can't remember which ones we tried but all of them were recommended by the staff and did not disappoint. Dishonest, dangerous, and completely untrained staff. I have Celiac disease, which means I cannot eat gluten -- not "I'm avoiding it," but that even small amounts can make me very sick. I take every precaution when eating out, and I always communicate clearly with servers about my dietary restrictions. When I visited this restaurant, I spoke to our server, Martin, multiple times about whether a particular dish was completely gluten-free. I asked him to confirm with the chef, and he assured me -- more than once -- that he had checked and that the dish was safe for me. Something about the texture of the food didn't feel right, so I asked another server just to be sure. That's when I learned that a major ingredient was barley -- which is absolutely not gluten-free. When I asked that second server to confirm with the kitchen, the chef himself came out and told us directly that the dish did contain gluten and that Martin had never asked him about it. The chef and other staff were profusely apologetic, though at that point it was far too late. This isn't just poor service -- it's dishonesty and dangerous negligence. People with Celiac disease rely on truthful information to avoid severe illness. A simple "I'm not sure" would have been acceptable. But lying about checking with the chef? Unacceptable. This experience completely destroyed any trust I had in this restaurant. Management clearly needs to train their staff properly on food allergens and what "gluten-free" actually means. Until that happens, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone with food allergies or sensitivities. read more

First time trying this place based on the reviews. Great ambiance. Love the vibes of the place. Busy Friday night, but was able to call and reserved the bar. Got great recommendations and we ended up ordering the lamb lollipops, Wagyu burger, and the sea bass. Everything was delicious. Lamb didn't have any aftertaste, and it was so delectable. Wish we ordered the bigger portion. Burger was good with the fries. Fish was great, fresh and does not taste "fishy". Desserts were amazing. Just a little bit too sweet. My friend and I were wandering around d the other day and stumbled upon this after a few drinks down the way. So why not continue the evening? We decided to split some stuff as it was a bit early and we sidled up to the bar. Lots of interesting cocktails and the food has a large Turkish bent to it. Earlier in the year I had discovered Meyhouse group and I would say it's on the same level. Classic things done with modern touches and all absolutely delicious. Basturma and Manti were particularly good. They've only been open a few days and it is in the old Sidecar space which I think got its demise during covid. But glad to see a new modern Turkish place executing so well in an area that kind of needed more variety. Looking forward to going back and having a more extensive meal read more

We sat at the bar with Julian as our bartender. He was absolutely amazing, so much so that we cancelled our dinner plans and ended up eating at Opelia. Delicious food, awesome service. We were stopped by to have couple drinks but hospitality went beyond. Highly recommended.

The server was very nice. He was very accommodating to us, he made recommendations and when our drinks didn't turn out to our liking they changed it and also when they found out my partner was allergic to broccoli they gave us Barley risotto which is very good. We had a negative food experience at Opelia. The mezze sampler and octopus were good, but the steak and lamb lollipops were overcooked, among the worst proteins I've had eating out in a while. I generally don't get red meat, especially steaks, at restaurants because so many places don't cook it well and Opelia was another reason why my rule stands. People at home can easily cook better steaks; Opelia cooked our steak to medium well when we wanted a rare steak. The lamb lollipop was cooked well to the point of chewiness. Both of these dishes were also quite expensive, at $68 for the steak and $23 for the lamb lollipops (two bones from a rack of lamb). read more

The food was well made, both taste and appearance. For appetizer, we ordered Brussels sprouts, octapodaki; for main dish, we ordered (lamb) meat dumpling, sea bass filet; for dessert, we ordered bread pudding with ice cream. They were all delicious. The ice cream was made of goat milk and the texture was like cheese with strong milk flavor which I like. I am lactose intolerant and I had no ill feelings after eating it. Our waitress was very patient and did not rush us to finish the food and gave us food recommendations for our next trip. The restaurant is a gem in Los Gatos area. As a near-pescatarian who has had too much red meat lately, I should have known not to dine in a Turkish place expecting good seafood. I ordered some squid ink seafood linguine but it's in a very heavy cream sauce, all I could taste is heavy cream. I had to take it to go, having the leftovers reheated but I can see a lot to the fat /butter melted off. It makes me a little nauseous, does not taste very Turkish. Otherwise the fish roe appetizer was traditional (Greek I think?) very good, and the ouzo cocktail was fabulous. Such a charming restaurant. The decor was beautiful and the vibes felt cozy. We were a group of 5 and shared everything we ordered. The meze appetizers were all delicious. The standouts were the tzatziki and the beets. The fennel arugula salad was perfect (we ordered 2). The steak was perfectly cooked- the favorite of the night overall by the group. My favorite was what I thought I'd enjoy the least- the chicken. The sauce is so good you kept wanting to go in for more. It and the lamb are served over something called keskek which is similar to rice in texture but was SO good. All 5 of us agreed we would all be coming back to try the rest of the menu.
