We had a family of 9 (7yr didn't count) that was looking for something to do on New Year's Day. Fortunately this place was opened and we made an appointment. Place was not terribly hard to find. The owner met us at the door and we went straight in. This was our second escape room. She was pretty good at setting up the story. The room itself was not terribly big. I can see it getting really crowded with 8 adults. Without giving it away, the puzzles were fair. The prev room that we had been in had more tech savvy puzzles. We had to get a couple of hints in order to escape. I think this room was be good for a family to work together. I would recommend giving it a shot. Now regarding the value, escape rooms are not cheap. With that said, we paid $200 for 1 hr of entertainment. I think that is kinda high. I wished they gave a discount for getting the whole room. read more

I went to The Study yesterday with a group of coworkers and we all had so much fun. It's the first escape room we'd all done and so didn't quite know what to expect. We all ended up having such a blast! The puzzles were well paced and kept us engaged and communicating the entire time. We made it out with only five minutes left, but it felt like we'd be in there for only twenty minutes. Michelle, the hostess, was friendly and polite and really made the experience positive from the first moment. I wish I could forget the entire evening just so I could experience again for the first time! I'll definitely have to try my hand at their other escape room. My only complaint is that the entrance was a little hard to find without much signage pointing you the right direction. read more

KC was an amazing host! We did the brand new Kidnapped room and it was great! KC did an amazing job of explaining the game to us and was super friendly. The room is dim and spooky, and is definitely full of thrills. We have done multiple escape rooms and this one was up at the top. Luckily we were able to escape with 5 minutes left, but we really thought this would be the first one to trap us! Ive done 20+ escape rooms and I have to say open door escape has some of my all time favorite games. They are immersive, fun, clean and have some very clever puzzles. Their rooms are unique and you can't really find what they have anywhere else! they are great for beginners and advanced players. Lots of fun!! There are 2 rooms: "The Study" and "Arrested". My group of 7 did "The Study". If you've never done escape rooms before, this is the perfect one to start! It's challenging but easier than other ones I've done. It's fun even if you are experienced:) Location is perfect for your small group. It's downtown Redlands right next to la minute (best icecream joint) , Cheesewalla (unique grilled cheese cafe) and umbrella ally (awesome dining area and great place to take pictures)! All of these places are a "must" to experience so why not hit them all up in the same day?!! I'm looking forward to trying out ther other room (Arrested). We did the study when it first opened and I loved it then we did arrested A while back and again loved it and then finally today we played kidnapped. Their games are so fun and immersive and constantly having us on our toes. The experience features intuitive, challenging puzzles, an intriguing theme, and a sassy bird. Our team of six escaped without hints, but I feel like we might have missed out on the most unique element of the adventure: Nick the Parrot. I highly recommend this business! 3.5 Stars, rounded up. This is a great newcomer escape room. I went to this escape room with 5 other friends. The staff was extremely friendly and genuinely seemed to enjoy what he did. The room is well decorated with a cool theme and interesting puzzles. My group's biggest complaint was the difficulty of the room. We escaped in 19 minutes total and had 0 hints setting a record for fastest time as well as being the second group to escape without using hints. My group was quite experienced so I could totally see this being a great first time escape room experience that could challenge younger participants. i didn't look at the photos of the room until after the room was completed and I am glad I did not as many of them have actual spoilers for some of the room's puzzles. I think this is sad and the management should remove the photos the ruin some of the fun. read more

On the way to Joshua Tree for a weekend getaway, we stopped by Open Door Escape Rooms in Redlands to try out a couple of their rooms, "The Study" and "Arrested". In "The Study", the friendly GM explained that our task was to discover how Vinnie, a political whistleblower, escaped the room. Why we only had 1 hour wasn't clear but in we went. The production of "The Study" was immersive albeit it for a single room. The hint system was novel and the puzzles (at least initially) were logical and flowed very well. In a surprising turnaround, though, the final 3 puzzles were just not fun. One was pure scavenging and required you to simply flip through dozens(?) of books looking for a "note to self". My head hurt. The final two puzzles required a fairly significant amount of outside knowledge, familiarity with the bible and a certain movie quote. With a healthy dose of hints from Nick the parrot, we stumbled across the finish line and escaped the room. For me, The Study ranks #85 out of 153 and was a 3 1/2 star room which I rounded up to 4 here. Next up, "Arrested" which you should know is at a different location and thus a different review. Had a blast, the reception area was clean and well kept, the gals at the front desk were very courteous and fun to talk to while we waited for our session. (got there 20 min early) They reset the room quickly, explained the back story and handcuffed us together to begin our quest. The room itself was clean and all the props were story line appropriate. We did get through it and escaped, but it took us all 60 min plus about 15 sec...they saw we had it figured out so let us hit the final sequence. We will definitely try the other rooms at some point. I had several friends tell me that I needed to go the the Open Door. So I surprised my husband for his birthday last weekend. My husband, 13yr old daughter and myself went. We were the only ones at that time on a rainy Sunday afternoon. I would like to have done it with other people, but we had a blast just the three of us! My daughter had so much fun. She was looking everywhere for clues even unzipping the chair cushion! We worked well together and it was something so different to do. We are totally waiting for the next rooms to open. My wife and I went last night as a last minute date night idea. Best idea ever! We checked The Study out and had a blast! The Game Master who greeted us was very polite, friendly, and could tell a good story! The theme reminded us of being in the middle of an old Vincent Price film and kept a historic vibe complimenting Redlands' rich history! (Perfect for all you old school B film/Noir mystery fans!) This also made for an affordable night and didn't break the bank allowing us to enjoy a good dinner around the corner afterwards. I just wish I paid attention to the fact that we could have had up to six people to help us lol oh well, makes you communicate with your spouse better!! Arrested is a very challenging escape room with a very cool and friendly staff. We didn't know what to expect until the door shut behind us. Wow this was a very cool experience. It showed me just how not a puzzle person I am. We had such a great time that we are planning to do it next month but the easy one for kids. Lol!! We should have started with easy and moved up when we had the hang of things. I cant wait for the next experience. Our greeter was very nice and informative. We were a group of 6 adults and 2 kids and we did The Study room. Generally, the room is up to 6 people but they accommodated the kids which was great because I had guests from out of the country and we didn't have someone to watch the kids. The staff was very nice on the phone and in person. It was the first time for all of us. We didn't solve it but we had a blast. I personally want to try again and may be try the other room as well. They are also opening a room for the younger kids which I probably will take the kids soon. It is Super fun and highly recommended for people who like mystery and puzzle. read more
