So, having eaten here a few times now, here's the thing: This is a totally solid breakfast/brunch choice if you want a "nice" place (not cool, not modern, not trendy) to go without a wait, especially if you're in the area. Some items are better than others (obviously). I personally like their omelettes and soups. They totally need to get a multigrain bread option for their toast though. Ingredients are fresh, which is awesome. Good happy hour too. Because it's huge, it never feels crowded, but it is definitely a "grandma" kind of place. Took my cousin and his wife for breakfast here. Big mistake. Service was ok but the food lousy. If you like food that is barely warm when served this is the place for you. Had the red potatoes that must have been just warmed up not cooked fresh. Rubbery taste. The serving of scrambled eggs was very small and the toast was just warm at best. The menu listed the salad as having charbroiled chicken breast, roasted corn, black beans, cheese, tortilla strips, tomatoes, peppers, lettuce and homemade cilantro-lime dressing. Great food, but the restaurant look is sooooo tired and run down. Wood floors need refinishing, restaurant needs to be painted. Bar is cozy, but the chairs wobble. Food is okay. Staff and manager or owner moves really slow. Doesn't attempt to see if things are okay or if anything is needed. Staff needs to be more attentive. Refills? Anything else needed w/ meal and so on. The "figure head" (manager or owner) only checks on the tables of people he knows. I had to walk up to the bar from the dinning area to get a refill. Hate to say it, this place is kind of embarrassing. Will not be back ever again. How they are still in business is mind blowing! Some places are short staffed but Management at other places usually steps in. Remember it's about hospitality and the customer experience. This place will most likely be out of business soon enough. The Open Flame has been on the corner of Hwy 100 and Edgerton for many years. I am not quite sure what their restaurant style would be called. They offer food options from rotisserie chicken to steak. Also offered are food options I would call family dining. The seating ranges from more intimate dimly lit romantic dining to well lit family style booth seating. They also have a bar area that has TVs to watch your favorite sporting event. I have been here many times. I can't think of a bad experience, which is a tough thing to pull off. My wife has mentioned that the Friday fish fry is very tasty. read more

Went out for dinner tonight, and was super impressed!!! Haven't dined out in months and was feeling a little uneasy, considering the potential risk involved these days....but was pleasantly surprised walking in to see all of the staff wearing mask and people enjoying their meals at tables that were safely distanced apart. The restaurant was very clean and inviting. They also have a gorgeous outdoor patio and a warm fire burning which I appreciated since it it started getting a little chilly once the sun went down. Our server was Jordan, and he was very personable, attentive and made our experience that much more enjoyable! We even had the manager, I believe his name was Tim, come to our table to ask if we were enjoying our meal and wound up having a great conversation with him as well! He had a great personality and funny!!! Also seemed to genuinely care that everyone walking in the door feel safe and have a wonderful experience! Last but not least our dinner was DELICIOUS!!! Arrived about 3:00pm on Friday to have a drink and something to eat at the bar. Service was outstanding. Ordered food and waited. Cold air was blowing on us. I asked a person that worked there if they could do something about the cold air blowing on us. He said he would. He never did. I asked the people behind the bar about the heat. They said the owner was there ask him.. I found out the owner was the person that said he would turn on the heat. I will admit that the heat turned on for 5 minutes. Used the rest room no hot water let it run for about 3 minutes. Went back to the bar and a couple sat next to us and ordered drinks. 5 minutes later they moved, cold air blowing on them. I looked up to see were the cold air was coming from and saw a large spot on the ceiling that had water damage. It was painted to hide water marks but it jumped at you. Looked like mold was starting. We ordered pizza and it was outstanding. The owner needs to know that people that come to his establishment want to be comfortable when eating. Will I come back. Not until summer and then I will enjoy their great food. Sitting out side because during the summer the building has a musty smell. read more

"Vegan Pizza Available." I remember back in the day when going to a restaurant like this meant I could only eat a tiny, green salad and nothing else. Luckily, the world is going vegan little by little and even a dyed-in-the-wool meat place like this offers a meal for a vegan! The veggie pizza can be made without cheese, and it's not bad. The crust is paper thin, no lie, so if you like that, this is a good place for that. While the pizza didn't blow my mind with flavor or anything, I'm just happy that they offer it and a vegan and her vegetarian boyfriend can enjoy a fun night out with friends. We had a great time, the service was very good, the atmosphere pleasant and the whole evening was thoroughly enjoyable. A vegan pizza is a great start, Open Flame! Saw a recommendation for the patio on another site and decided to try it out. Surprising experience to say the least. Patio is nice but noisy due to the proximity to highway 100. The outdoor bar area is not open. We went thinking happy hour but that is only inside at the bar - as an FYI. We ordered drinks and it came out with tonic instead of soda and the waitress said, "again?" Then brought out a small cup for us to try to make sure Soda...she stated it gets mixed up a lot. Then we order spinach fondue - very good and garlic aioli wings with cilantro. What came out was fried wings with sweet Thai chili sauce. They were good but not what we ordered. Again, when we told waitress she said, "yeah i don't know why they do that sometimes." Keep in mind wings are not on the menu - they were on a paper printed daily specials menu .......... Manager came out when we went to pay and said, "are you sure, those are our best sellers?" Yes, I am 100% sure that was not a garlic aioli with cilantro, they look and taste 100% different. Everyone at our table ordered something different so I was able to see the different types of food as well as portions & they were all generous. Here's the bad, our waiter was pretty rude. When I pointed out some things that needed some attention like dirty silverware, straws with "things" on them, hair on our appetizer, he didn't even apologize & sort of snatched stuff out of my hand. I thought to myself "everyone is entitled to a bad day " so I left it alone. Our drinks were on the watered down side & The food was ok, nothing to rave about. I wish I would have read the reviews before deciding on this place. Came here on Mothers Day evening. They were busy as expected. We were told the wait was 45 min. After waiting 1 hr 15 min I finally asked about our place in line. The manager had a host give us this awkward curved table meant for a large party. The seats were old and uncomfortable. After waiting some time the server came up and took our drink order. Very simple- 2 waters, a Diet Pepsi, and kiddie cocktail. We also ordered a crab cake appetizer. She comes back about 10 min later with NO ICE in the kiddie cocktail or waters and mumbled something about being no ice and scurried off not bringing my Diet Pepsi. So gross. The water was already warm and it was SO HOT in the restaurant it was like a sauna and made for a very uncomfortable experience. So after waiting another 10 min for a simple Diet Pepsi and not receiving it I went to talk to the manager (I'm assuming he was anyways) and he went to go find the server. He came back giving me an attitude saying your server said she came to your table and I told him I never said she didn't come to our table. I said she never brought me my drink and there's no ice. I knew at that point it was going to be a really bad experience and I contemplated my daughter and I leaving and going somewhere simple like chipotle and she told me let's just wait it out. You deserve to have a nice dinner for Mother's Day. I really wish I would've listen to my intuition. The food was horrible. My daughter and I both ordered chicken and I ordered ribs to go with my chicken. There was absolutely no flavor in the chicken and it was rubbery and red. The sauce on the ribs was very interesting in a bad way and did not taste like bbq it was so sweet. Lack of hospitality as you walk in this under average restaurant. Young girls at the front sitting at the front table and provide no enthusiasm or smile as you enter or leave. As they slowly walk you around to your table dragging their feet against the floor until you eventually land at a table or booth of their choice. Atmosphere reminded me of an old IHOP or family owned restaurant who puts fake plants every where to try and spruce things up but never maintains or even dusts them. We ordered the Wisconsin cheese which was absolutely amazing - but made me wish I had stopped there and just got another serving. Our main dishes were the Chicken Avocado Bacon Club on sourdough bread - dry, dry, dry! Bacon was over cooked there was barely any sauce on the sandwich and a few fries and two day old pickle joined the plate. I wound up eating half with Ranch dressing to help it go down, and let them take the other half to waste away in the landfill. Overall just an under average place to eat with a name that makes you hope for more. read more

However, our experience was greatly impacted by poor service. Our server was so incredibly short and rude with us throughout our entire meal. We will not recommend or stop by again. Food was good. Service was very slow and awkward. Our server seemed like maybe he was new? He definitely needs more coaching. He brought the wrong drinks. We told him when he dropped them off and it took another time of us asking and about 15-20 more minutes to get the drinks we ordered. Our appetizer came out and he took our order for entrees. He then stated he would wait about 10 minutes before ringing in our order. We were glad we told him not to wait because we were done with our appetizer and still waited a bit for our food. I don't know why i don't come here more often. The ambience is very intimate and classy without needing to feel like you need to dress in a tux or dress. At one time this was a Greek restaurant (is it still secretly? I sure think so). The layout is open in the main area with smaller connected areas off of that. They have expanding tables to accommodate larger groups but without disrupting the intimate feel if only couples are eating. The service was good and our waitress was particularly friendly and attentive. We started with a goat cheese and marinara dip with garlic bread. It was very tasty and reasonable price as well - about $5.95 i think? I then ordered a gyro plate with fries. Scrumptious! The fries were hot and just a bit crispy. Yum! The meat was very good too and comes in he classic heaping style you get at any good Greek place. My husband said the chicken sandwich he got was also excellent. I was here once before and remember ordering a great Skyy Blood Orange mixed drink and having a hard time picking it out from a very tempting list. Also a good list of wines including a few featured German Mosel region options for the more refined palates out there. Note: I like to think of myself as a bit of a calamari connoisseur and i try it anywhere it's available. At Open Flame it's probably a 7/10. It's good, but i have had much better. Try it if you want, but i really recommend the goat cheese plate mentioned earlier very highly and it's even cheaper! read more

I have been here twice. Both times with large groups and found the service to be excellent and the food delicious. From the outside it looks like any other family type restaurant along Highway 100. But when you get inside, it really has a more upscale feeling. I found so many things that I wanted to try on the menu, that it was hard for me to decide. My favorite was the crabcake eggs benedict that I had for breakfast. It was served with roasted potatoes, and beer battered deep fried asparagus. I wasn't sure if I would like it, but decided I would be adventurous and try it. Now I can't wait to go back for breakfast so I can try it again. From what I could tell, it seems very popular with all ages of people. I saw groups of college age students, families, elderly people and everybody in between. It's location on the corner of Highway 100 and Edgerton, which is near the expressway makes it a great place to meet when you want to get a big group together. And since the menu is so diverse, everybody should be able to find something they like. On Thursdays kids 12 and younger eat free, with the purchase of an adult dinner. My family and I frequent this place, as the food is consistently good. The waitstaff is usually decent, there is an exception, Janice, she is great! If you want the best. service ask to be seated in her section. We have had breakfast, lunch and dinner here. Breakfast is great especially the French toast, and sausage patties. This is a hybrid; the Greek diner meets fine dining. You get upscale food with the service and portions you expect form a neighborhood family "Greek Place". The menu is diverse, and large. They are open from breakfast to a late dinner. Breakfast is nothing special, but very good. Typical diner menu. There is a serious lack of decent affordacle restaurants around this area, so when I find one I like I just keep going back. My other go to is the Chancery. Started the evening off with a very awkward waitress. She was nice but hard to talk to. Then the food. It was overpriced for what you got and VERY salty. It was presented nicely but the food was surely below par with restaurants similarly priced. The sauce on my pork medallions looked and tasted like it came out of a can. The mashed potatoes had no flavor. The asparagus was over cooked. They do wood roasted meats but they have everything under the sun on the menu and very few wood roasted items. Food is just mediocre. Probably would not come back, unless it was just for a burger or rotisserie chicken. Dinner with my parents and sister's family so we had a group of 11. Nice looking restaurant and was able to accommodate a larger good. Also a convenient location. I had chicken/rib combo. The rotisserie chicken was pretty good but the ribs were below average. They were dry and you could tell that it had been cooked a long before I arrived and was just reheated. My wife had a steak & shrimp combo and it was just ok. Only 2 asparagus stalks for the side dish. Shrimp had no flavor. Steak was ok, but again bland. My sons each had chicken fettuccine alfredo. Chicken was overcooked and the only flavor in the alfredo sauce was garlic. Nothing at all impressive. Pretty much everyone commented that their food was just ok. Group came at 6:30 for a birthday dinner. Waitress was very tentative at first. Once while party came she took our order. Food came a house later and there was hardly anyone there. Ruben was cold, hard, and dry. The Alfredo's got mixed up and they gave us a hard time about fixing them. One was supposed to be no mushrooms, my sister started eating the bread before she took it. Came back same bread and food mixed together, like they picked the mushrooms out. Chicken Alfredo had no chicken. They have a side of chicken and it was cold. They took it back and just warmed up the chicken because now it was dry and burnt. The only thing that came out correct was the salads and steaks. Our waitress never came back until the end with the bills. We tried to get help from another waitress and she started an argument instead. Got the manager man and as I'm explaining he immediately say that's impossible. I understand wanting to defend your staff, but not in a manner you don't listen to your customers. Then when the waitress come back with the bill, he realizes EVERYTHING we said was correct and it just didn't come out that way. His response was just "oh" and walked away. We hadn't been to Open Flame in many years because of the poor food and service we received after trying it a few times when they opened. We went there the weekend after Easter and had a nice experience so we thought we'd try it again on Mother's Day. On Mother's Day we had the worst experience we've had in a restaurant in a LONG time. VERY rude waitress (who was getting her 18% for a big party so she didn't care), missing food, small portions, and undercooked meat. The manager was nice but could not make up for the snarling snippy waitress we had. We had to talk to the manager twice and it was uncomfortable having so much to complain about.
