Oof. This place needs some serious help. They have the website down, complete with mouth watering looking dishes, but the food will surely disappoint. My $31 salad looked worse than a grab and go salad from a local grocery store. A smash burger with an English muffin? They said it's "southern style" but, I'm from the south and I've never heard of such a thing. Overcooked, dryyyyy, tiny and just not good... very disappointed. Best meal I had in Montana! From ambiance, to service, to the food, Open Range is where it's at. The only one slightly negative was that I didn't love their specialty cocktail list. Nothing caught my eye, as they all were a tad bit too exotic filled with ingredients I could barely pronounce, let alone know about. What can I say, I'm a simple girl. The maitre d/host or whomever is the man. So friendly, so personable. He really was a great way to experience the restaurant first hand. We snagged a booth and enjoyed the lively atmosphere. This place is large and open, so intimate date night it is not, but it's still so well done, that definitely think about bringing a date. Our server was wonderful - super professional and attentive. We opted for a starter to share, some steaks and a cheesecake for dessert. Let me get this out right now: that cheesecake! WHOA. As NYC folks, I mean we invented the cheesecake, right? (Pretty sure we didn't), but this was so perfect. We started with the special app of the night: a duck egg roll. This was the perfect indicator of what would follow. Cooked perfectly, bursting with flavor and a great portion. Although, not gonna lie, I wanted like 5 more orders. For our mains, I opted for the 6 oz petite beef tenderloin and it was just what I expected: a perfectly pink, tender and delicious cut of meat. It's not cheap. $39, but it did come with veggies and potatoes. I'm ok with that. You want a quality steak and quality costs money. Pro-tip: Do get that horseradish sauce, for reals. The man went with I believe a special, a buffalo tenderloin - again, cooked perfectly and seasoned and buttered so well. He agreed - five stars. Overall, you're going to drop a pretty penny, but well worth it for a night out in Bozeman. Gorgeous. Open Range is a beautiful space. We had just eaten dinner so my review only extends to the bar. The cocktail menu was impressive and drinks were very good. Love this place... but tonight, 3/4/22, it sounds like they're playing the Olive Garden corporate playlist... would have stayed for more drinks had they had more music variety. Staff were wonderful, food was great, and drinks were on point as usual. Just can't listen to nonstop Sinatra--- and I like Sinatra. FOOD IS GREAT, but it's pretty pricey. Had the elk chops and they were wonderful, but the sauces that you can choose from are really over priced. A small side of your choice should really come included. Side dishes are gigantic, pick one and split with another person. Hubby had bison filet, it was perfect, we both split the Brussel sprouts and mushrooms and they were pretty big for two people but delicious. I hate wasting food especially when it's so spendy. The service was good the but the food was way overpriced for the quality. My husband got elk chops. They were very small and the cut was low quality. I got a NY strip wagyu steak. It was very tuff and the cut was not great, especially for the price. The potatoes seemed to be drowning in butter with no other seasonings. We came for a reception after a wedding. The restaurant was glad to accommodate the photographers and two additional guests. Our server Jordan was quite lovely. She handled our party as well as several other tables. She is an excellent server! Everybody's order was perfectly prepared. This is a top-quality restaurant. Open Range is definitely Bozeman's new "see and be seen" restaurant. The owners were socializing with everyone in the restaurant including Michael Keaton! My husband and I dined at Open Range twice during our most recent visit to Bozeman. The food and service were exactly what you would expect from the Bentley's. What we were most surprised by was the AMAZING cocktail menu. We had to come back to try more of the gourmet options. My husband ordered the smoking apple jack twice and it was beyond anything he'd ever had. I had the best manhattan there. Our first trip we came with my FIL and we shared the French fries (which were a tad too salty) the lamb stuffed Vidalia onion (we ordered this both times, it was so good), the eggplant caponata (ordered this both times, our favorite dish). We followed all of this up with duck, for my FIL. He thought the duck was well cooked, but again too salty. My husband and I shared the 44 oz ribeye and it was, honestly, the best steak I've had. Served with the smoked mashed potatoes and veggies which were also yummy. We wrapped up the dinner with a few desserts. The chocolate malt cake was so so. But all of the homemade ice cream was delicious, creamy, and flavorful. The portion sizes were good too. Our second visit we sat at the bar and enjoyed more starters and cocktails. The bar staff was friendly and made small talk with us as we relaxed. I would highly recommend visiting Open Range. It is a true gem in Bozeman. read more

What a disappointment this was. Menu was so inviting. Started off, we had to ask if they had any specials because nothing was mentioned when we sat. Ordered the prim rib with fingerling potatoes and broccoli. Well, meat was room temperature or less with little to no flavor or au jus and broccoli was extremely hard. From our appetizers to our take home dessert (too full) our experience was fantastic. Escargot and fish cake appetizers were good. Our group of 7 including kids drank Shirley temples, dirty martinis, a few Bozone beers, followed by 1792 with one rock. Entree's included salmon, bison filets and ribeye, prime beef filets alongside mushrooms, mac & cheese, smoked mashed potatoes (very good). Our only side we did not love was the creamed spinach. Caesar salad with anchovies was crisp, as was the wedge. The starter show stopper was a gooey bubbling crook of french onion soup. Ok, I have been entertaining clients at Open Range since they opened, We have guests from all around the nation, and they all have their favorite Open Range specialty (Bison Tomahawk, Asada for Two, Cast Iron Chicken) and I love them all, but I had never had their hamburger. My big mistake. I proclaim it "Best in Bozeman". Insanely good. The garlic butter was the savory taste that a great burger demands. The blue cheese was sharp, tangy and piquante--as only the best blue cheese can demand. The portion is beyond generous--cooked exactly like you request---no "one size--medium--fits all". Onions, freshly baked bread, thick-sliced bacon. Literally, the definition of a perfect mouth-watering hamburger. Don't get me wrong, Open Range is a high-end steak restaurant with a comprehensive American menu, but what they get so right is that virtually each of their premium dishes is someone's very definition of comfort food. As evidence, try their mashed potatoes, corn bread, mac & cheese or crispy brussel sprouts. However, the magnum opus of the Open Range hamburger is their french fries. Hot, crispy, over-flowing from a large bowl, slightly seasoned and perfect--just plain perfect. Get a family order for the table, so everyone won't poach yours. This the real deal. Magnificent. Open range used to be my favorite restaurant but now it's so bad I will never be back. I don't know if they got a new chef in the last year or so, but he has taken this place so far down hill. From 'whipped' potatoes that taste like baby food with chive powder that's clumpy and gross, to over cooked meat- the food isn't worth the price. And the service? Wow. Talk about some bad choices on the hiring managers part. The last time I was there, the server flat refused to check on ingredients used in one of their dishes, even though I have several very serious allergies and just told me to not order it if I was worried. We went here to celebrate our anniversary, made a reservation prior and got TERRIBLE service. We were put at a makeshift table next to the bar, our "waiter" was the bartender and it was noticeable this wasn't his normal. Our appetizer & meal sat under the warm lamp for 10 minutes before it was served to us (we know this because we could see the dishes on the counter) It was really upsetting. We expected great service for what we were paying. I gave 5 stars because even though the service was terrible, the food was fantastic. Our app, even though cold was so good. My girlfriend and I had an anniversary dinner here and as always the food was amazing. We have been here about 3 times so far and each visit has been very pleasing. The food and drinks were beyond delicious. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. If you are an adventurous eater, I would highly recommend the Escargot for an appetizer. Additionally the bone marrow pairs well with any steak. The mixologist inspired drinks have very clever and interesting names. I've been to this restaurant many times and always look forward to returning when in Bozeman. Last nights dinner was such a disappointment. We won't talk about the staff because I know COVID has taken a toll in that area. Although, when it comes to the food I do expect it to represent the high quality we have had in the past. Last nights dinner was more in line with a cheap diner experience. Our $60.00 steaks were not in line with what we have experienced in the past. The side dishes were over seasoned and cold. One bite into our starter we were trying to enjoy the food showed up and we felt very rushed to eat and get out. This is not the restaurant it was three years ago. We will definitely not be going back anytime soon! read more

I've enjoyed two very fine meals here in the last few weeks. The steaks are superb, by-the-glass wines are very good and fairly priced, and all of the sides that we tried were delicious. Service has been top-flight. The only downside for us was presentation. It seems a bit of a shame to have great steaks simply served on an empty platter. Heirloom Tomato salad (which was wonderful), came in a smallish portion served on a plate large enough for a good-sized, whole chicken.
