After about a dozen attempts at trying to hear back from John (owner of the optimum plumbing) on getting a labor quote, I've decided to write this review. I first reached out to John in around August of 2021 to get an quote for a water heater/ water softener/ expansion tank/ pressure regulator and some other small odds and ends. Initially, the experience was great. We agreed upon a time to meet and John provided me with a quote in a couple of days. I was doing my own due diligence and gathering a few quotes from other reputable plumbers in addition to looking at about 30+ contractors for other repairs that the house needed (roof, termite, flooring, kitchen, bathrooms, landscaping, deck etc...). I put the job on hold as I had to prioritize other services first. It was in mid Oct that I contacted John again about changing my initial quote to labor only for the heater and softener. I would purchase those two units through my business so I could write it off. That's when the issues started occurring. Initially, John told me he was going to be out of town and coming back next week and that he would send me something by Monday. I followed up with him on Thursday and he apologized and said he would send me a quote. Then, it was radio silence for a few more days. I followed up by sending another text on 11/9 and email on 11/10. Didn't hear anything call. I called him in the following days and got him on the line and he said that he would send me a another an updated quote. Crickets. I finally left him another VM on 11/22 asking for the quote and saying that if I don't hear back from him, I'll just assume he's too busy for this job. It is now 12/1 and I still haven't heard anything back. It really is discouraging and frankly unprofessional in light of the dozen attempts or so that I've tried reaching out to John only to receive 0 communication back. I'm sure he's an excellent plumber, but, unfortunately I'll never be able to work with him on any projects. read more

WOW! If I could make it 10 stars, I would! Optimum's service is stellar from start to finish. I needed to camera a sewer lateral for a city requirement and they were able to send someone out the same day. Todd was well equipped, extremely professional and super efficient. He provided us with a USB key of the camera footage before he left and sent a report for the city the next morning. I asked for an estimate from them for a pinhole leak I had in my garage ceiling. I had already located the leak and cut away part of the drywall to confirm so I only needed them to perform the repair. John was very nice and very accommodating to my schedule. They came at the perfect time and had the problem fixed in about 15 minutes with a new tool which makes permanent repairs nice and easy. The price was good as well. The nice part is he explained everything as he was doing it and also gave me a plumbing lesson regarding pipe thicknesses, durability and different types of materials used for repairs for my future knowledge. My neighbor saw what was going on and liked what he saw and asked John to come to his house to install a retrofit shower valve. John went over after finishing my job and took care of his needs right then and there. I will definitely be calling them in the future! read more

We're in escrow to purchase a home and during the inspection we discovered clogged drains. We called optimum plumbing and scheduled a camera inspection of the house drain line's. They came out the next day and scoped the drains from six different runs and found major problems. The great part about it was their knowledge of a plumbing layout for a 58 yr old house; their explanations and descriptions; and, informing us of possible solutions . We paid an additional $40 for a zip drive of all drains scoped, and John sent a detailed report the next morning. Fantastic, Optimum plumbing is the best! read more

I used Optimum Plumbing Service on my rental property in San Ana on June 12th. My tenant called the night before and reported water leaking in the kitchen and bathroom. Next morning I call several plumbing companies in Orange County that I found on YELP. Tracie and then John called back and said they can come out in the late afternoon same day. The problems were fixed and price was reasonable. Tenant was happy. I am happy. I used to do plumbing works on my properties to save money when I was younger. Now I am retired and plan do a lot of travel so I need to find a reliable plumbing company to take care of plumbing problems when I am away on travel. I hired Optimum Plumbing Services to move a drip line. John came out and gave me a price and his team performed work later the same day. About 2 weeks later, I noticed that the drip line was sticking 8" above the ground―not flush with the ground as requested. I texted John (with a photo of issue) to have the drip lowered because it is an easy target for breakage since it is in the same area as a hose we use often. I didn't hear back, so I texted him again. After no response, I reached out to him a third time via phone (voicemail) in case the texts were overlooked. It's been 4 weeks since my initial request to fix and he has neither repaired the problem or responded to my inquiries. read more

He came and replaced it the same day.The previous plumber had done some of the work wrong, so John showed me how he was going to correct it and did it for the original price that he quoted. I have wood floors and without even asking, the 1st thing he did was put down drop cloths. By the time they left, there wasn't a trace of dirt or footprints left. I have worked in five start and five diamond luxury resorts for over 14 years have had extensive customer service training classes and have even presented on customer service. With that being said I wanted to share my positive experience as word of mouth is very important and exceptional customer services should not go unnoticed when it truly is exceptional.... I recently received a call from my mom who was on a weekend get away in the Big Bear mountains and while she was there noticed a leak in the water main line... I'm down here in orang county and was not able to get there to help her right away... However thanks to a great friends recommendation they gave me Optimum Plumbings contact information. Being that it was a weekend and about 5pm on a sat I was not expecting to reach an actual person.... Well when I called the actual owner John Karlen answered phone on second ring and sounded so friendly and professional and it was as if he was truly wanting to help out even though he did not know me...now that's a nice first impression ! I explained the situation and figured since he was a business in the orang county area he would probably refer me to a mountain plumber... I was wrong on this he went well beyond customer service and asked me to send some pictures of what the problem looked like so I had my mom send me a picture and then sent to him... He immediately called me back after he got the pictures and explained what the situation was most likely and he offered to go up to the mountains the next morning to even look at and give an estimate... He gave a time of when he would meet my mom and he showed up early and was professionally dressed too and had one of his employees with him to help...My mom was so impressed and really appreciated him doing this on short notice and he has already given a very fair estimate and had already scheduled for them to come up and do the repairs. They could have done the repair right then but my mom wanted to wait till she was back up there as John assured her it was not in need of an emergency repair. I Can honestly say I have not ever had a plumbing service go this far put of the way just to help trouble shoot a situation. Received a call last night from our tenant about water over flowing, it sounded like a real mess. Wasn't sure who to call, my wife had remembered she had a coupon she recently had saved from a mailer. When I called after hours the phone message said to call another number so I did and reached Todd, he sure knew his stuff and was ready to go at 10:00/ 10/30 pm. After taking with him and the tenant we decided to have Optimum come out first thing in the morning. They were right on time and showed me on there camera the roots that where causing the problem from outside the condo. The association had planted a huge ficus tree about 15/ 20 feet from the back patio and the had spread all in pipe. Todd even pull out most of the roots so I could show the property management, he also got on the phone to explain to property management what was going on. After he got off the phone with them he put me back on, they said they would pick up the bill and send a crew out to take out tree and reline or repipe the problem. Thanks to the whole staff at Optimum very professional . I will defiantly be using you guys again for all my plumbing problems. read more
