Great local breakfast place. My wife and I tried it because we live very close to it. I ordered the western omellete with a side of potatoes, she ordered the eggs with bacon and french toast. It was great. Food was good. Coffee was good. Prices were good. Service was good. My coffee cup was filled with a waitress making the rounds and filling everyone's cups. I love it. Busy on a Saturday morning, but no wait. The griddle was out in the open, so much like a diner, you get to see everything cooked. It was a great breakfast joint. I can't wait to go back. Breakfast size is good size, especially for the cost of breakfast. 2eggs, potatoes or grits, toast, and chive of bacon or Sausage (link,Pattie, or Turkey) was only $5.75. Coffee was $2.25, and was a non-acidly blend made strong enough to give a good level of energy and flavor. This place has been around for decades, but never went in. This past Sunday we went for breakfast. At first glance, it was dingy, dirty and in terrible need of updating. The tables had folded paper under the feet to balance them. Many of the chairs had vinyl seats that were torn. The coffee cups are so tiny that you have to be constantly getting refills...they definitely looked like something my mother had 30-40 years ago. I asked for water, and never got it. The food was okay and the prices were decent. There was food on the floor that hadn't been swept up from prior customers. As I waited for my check, the customer next to me got up to pay at the counter, where there was a handicap sign that read, "If you need ASSITANCE, please ask." A misspelled sign that had probably been there forever...maybe I am just OCD about these things. As I watched the customer at the counter, a roach crawled out from behind the counter and headed straight for the floor beneath his table to "dine" on the "leftovers". I then realized that at night that place must be crawling with roaches and was so sorry I had eaten there. Never again! Oh, by the way, "cash only". They do not take credit cards. read more

I walked in and was handed a menu to seat myself. 3 other tables walked in after me and there orders were all taken before me. After 15 minutes, i had to ask for someone to please take my order. This review is based on one time coming in. We're all entitled to bad days but when a woman who is almost 9 months pregnant is waiting to be served it's not acceptable. Flashback to the 1970s... Father Time spares no one and this restaurant is not immune. Open 40 years and it looks it. I stopped in late on a rainy day and sat at the counter. It was about 2:00p and they close at 2:30p. I was told they take their last order at 2:15p but a couple came in after that and they served them. I like that. I ate breakfast here a couple of times about 5 years ago. It was was decent and for some reason this joint popped in my mind. The Food This is straight up good old fashion American diner food. I ordered a cup of the Chicken Florentine Soup and the Deluxe Bacon Cheeseburger with Swiss and no mayo with fries, medium. The soup was nice and hot...The broth was spot on with nice chunks of chicken. The cheeseburger was cooked perfect and tasted fine. The fries and set up were ok. It also came with a pickle spear and coleslaw. Man, this is hard to type! This food would be Five Stars back in 1970...Frozen hamburger patties, Sysco style frozen French fries. I'm gonna say the soup was homemade, which is where I'm going with this review. Come into the 21st Century, man. Prepare some fresh burgers and some hand cut fries. I get it, this is the way your customers like it which is why you have been open for 40 years. But I'll tell you this, I've seen my beloved Mai-Kai upgrade their menu and they have been open longer. Service and Ambiance Service is an easy 5 Stars. Everyone is friendly and very personable. I was talking to one employee who is the Varsity Boys Baseball Coach at Coral Glades High School. My server, who had beautiful blue eyes, was a doll. Service was prompt and efficient. The cooking grill is facing the counter so you can watch your food being prepared which I also like. No place to hide. As for the décor...it needs a good remodel. I suggest a little fresh paint and remove the poles at the counter where their used to be seats. I have another suggestion but I would like the owner to email me to tell her it. Lastly, hardly anyone carries cash anymore. Yes folks, this place is cash only. Get a debit/credit card machine. Verdict This place is OK. What you see is what you get. When I had breakfast here it was delicious but like I said that was 5 years ago. I'm sure it still is. This place is solidly good and the bacon is great every time. :) We've lived near this place for three years now and today we finally went inside to see if it was any good. I'm addicted to another bagel place/diner that's much farther away so I was hoping for something closer that would be at least acceptable. I was pleasantly surprised. While nothing was totally delectable or amazing, all the food we ordered was good and the bacon was great. I had two eggs scrambled, grits, bacon and a biscuit with gravy. The only thing that was a little disappointing was the biscuit and gravy but still, it wasn't bad - I was just hoping for better. The gravy was lukewarm and starting to form a skin so I think that didn't help the flavour. The bacon was perfection! Crispy but not burnt and nice and hot. My boyfriend had chicken tenders with french fries and a pickle (pretty good pickles, too). He reported satisfaction with his meal. :) The interior is your normal breakfast place/diner look. Not too clean but not dirty. The waitresses were very nice and helpful. The minute I finished my iced coffee our waitress came to ask if I wanted a refill. Yep, this place has been around forever and looks it. Yep, there are scrapes and bumps and it's not the Ritz. If you come in here looking for white glove service and the most immaculate restaurant in the world, then you have a terrible sense of observation. What you DO find is a family of folks working and patrons that have been coming for decades. The food is good (and some of it is great) and it's inexpensive. Credit cards cost money, hence the cash only. Yes it's inconvenient but it's easy to plan ahead. I'm not concerned about a misspelling on the sign, I don't go there to get pedantic about paper under a wobbly table or a misspelled sign, I come here to eat and enjoy the experience, which I always do. Mean! Just not friendly! The food is good but the last 3 times I have gone there the hostess was so nasty to me. Threw my plate on my table... check was covered in butter and when I went to pay the bill I showed the hostess/waitress the butter on the bill. Now this wasn't just a small spot there was a huge lump of butter on the check. I held the bill so she could see it and when she went to grab it I saw that she didn't see it so I pulled it away so she could notice the mess on my check. Well that made her mad!! And she had a nasty remark " I saw it!" I'm thinking then why did you put it on my table like this? This is not my first time eating here in fact it was my fourth time eating here. The first time I ate here I gave them a great review because a blonde lady took care of me that stands behind the counter and does not wait tables. She is the sweetest person ever! As for the hostess/waitress and the cook, boy they really need an attitude adjustment! I told the waitress/hostess/cashier lol that I was not coming back! The worst thing you can do is be mean to people! When your restaurant is in dire need of help and looks like it's still in the dirty side of the 70s, you really shouldn't be making your customers feel the way they've made me feel in that restaurant. My heart goes out to the blonde who is a partial owner I understand for having to put up with these two. I'm sure she knows... she's just not saying it. I found a new restaurant and they're clean you can eat off the floor, they are kind and they have way better food! I told a couple of friends about my incident here at the orange tree. We arrived early on Sunday morning to beat the crowds - yes they fill up and out into the parking lot most of the time. Never been to Orange Tree before and it was worth it! They open at 6am weekdays and 7am Sundays. They are closed by 1pm because they only serve a full breakfast menu and a limited lunch menu. I had a half order of biscuits and gravy which was delicious. I could hardly imagine eating a full order of B&G.... That would have been way too much for me. I had the large breakfast platter and here is the rub: I ordered the ham and it was two slices of griddle fried ham sandwich meat?!?!? Overall the meal was cooked to order correctly but the ham was disappointing. The grits are my acid test for breakfast haunts and they were perfect. Oh and no apple jelly in the jelly bucket, not a big deal though... The veggie omelet was perfect and delicious as well. The orange juice was good and we did not have any coffee. Service was excellent and they are very busy so don't expect to have a conversation with a waitress, ain't gonna happen. Lastly they only accept CASH. So overall I highly recommend Orange Tree for breakfast but bring cash and skip the ham! read more

I have been coming to Orange Tree for some time now but I've ordered to go in the past and just go in and pickup because the place is small and packed with neighborhood locals in addition to them being CASH ONLY and I forget this every-time I come here and this is my first review of Orange Tree that I'm doing. I decided to dine in 04/15/2018 to grab a quick and inexpensive breakfast before running some errands, I was immediately seated at the counter since it was just myself, I was beginning to think it was a mistake because it was very hot in there as if the AC was not on, it did cool down somewhat eventually. She came to get my drink order of grapefruit juice and never placed a menu down she came back and asked if I was ready to order I advised no and could I please have a menu to view I decided to order what they name "For The Hearty Appetite" which includes 2 eggs, bacon, home fries, and toast I also order a short stack of pancakes. They have a diverse breakfast menu with all sort of Breakfast Specials, Sandwiches and Omelets. The staff I'll say is a lil biased from what I saw from dining in there, they appear to be more personable and attentive with their regular dine in customers which may leave with a bad impression to someone who doesn't dine there on a regular basis. The food was cheap, good and prepared quick not a bad combination for a diner breakfast I just wish the customer service was better and hopefully will get better. read more

The owners and staff went above and beyond after a recent tragedy. The day after a funeral they opened their doors to us. We had a party of over 20 the next morning and they seated us quickly and waited on us flawlessly. Friendly, yet aware of our loss, they mixed the perfect amount of cheer and condolences. Couldn't ask for better treatment from everyone there. Then after waiting on us for an hour and meeting our every need they refused payment. I wish I could give this restaurant 100 stars because they deserve it. I will never forget this unbelievable act of kindness that brought a little sunshine into an extremely gloomy few days. We have played many time on the golf course, like to eat after our play. Last 2 times went into the restaurant to get lunch and a beer. 15-20 minutes no waitress acknowledged our presence or say we will be there to help, didn't even look at us, hard to believe that they don't want to service people that wanted to eat. My fiancée wanted IHOP for breakfast and I try to avoid the corporate cookie cutter spots when I can. Used the high yelp reviews to locate this place close to our house and talk about being off the mark. Gross... and here's why: For starters, the place is dirty. Mom and pop should mean quaint and charming, not unclean and disheveled. Dusty fake plants are hanging up around the place, 4 missing tops to their barstool area with just the metal posts in the floor, grimy ceiling fans and dirty silverware. The place just looks beat up and lacks an overall managerial attention to cleanliness and detail. I ordered the 3 eggs with smoked sausage and home fries and she ordered the French toast with a side of biscuits and gravy. The cook actually had the audacity to take a side order of home fries that someone else had just sent back because they ordered French fries, and he then threw them right back on the flat top grill and served them to me! I know this because the grill is right there in the open and I watched the whole thing in front of my face. Penny smart and dollar foolish... not to mention just plain gross. Just like they say on the Food Network shows, not everyone is going to complain. And, I didn't. I wasn't in the mood to make a scene. I simply didn't eat the home fries and will never eat there again. I can't believe this place has 4 stars on yelp. The food was average to below average in overall taste. Its tucked away in this tiny shopping plaza and is easy to miss. The place is always packed when I go on weekends. The omelettes are delicious and the waitresses are nothing short of sweet. I was up in the area early one weekend morning and was starved. Checked Yelp for something other than Dennys or IHOP. Found this gem. Small, whole in the wall location in a strip mall. Good amount of parking. Place gets packed obviously. We waited about 5 minutes for a back table which was perfect, out of the way of the crowd. All the employees were women and they were hysterical. Fun group! Seemed like a family. A homey place! A lot of customers were regulars. We got coffee and menus. REALLY good coffee! I had 3 cups. That last one probably wasn't needed but dang it was good. And the waitress was always there to pour! Small, straightforward menu. CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP! Everything was cheap. I had a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich with a side of grits! Simple food, well done. My first time here and ordered the two eggs, ham, toast and jelly. I requested the eggs over medium as I hate runny egg white drool on my eggs which is what typically happens when I order over easy. The trade off is usually hard yolks but I can deal with that. Surprise, the eggs were perfect.... no runny whites and the yolks were runny!!! Yay!! The ham was flavorful, lean and served in several thin slices. And the toast was actually warm and buttery. We've seen this little restaurant every time we drive up University, so finally decided it was time for a visit. It was rather like a step back in time to the 50s diners. Small, homey decor and standard offerings. A "mom and pop" kind of feeling. I saw all of the usual breakfast offerings on the menu - plus some that you don't see often, like biscuits and gravy and corned beef hash. Biscuits and gravy are always near and dear to my southern heritage. We had them every morning at my grandma's house and my mom did them fairly often. But having the "real thing" tends to make one picky. I told the waitress that I would take my chances and try the B & G. She smiled and very nicely offered to bring me a taste of the gravy before I ordered it. That was a definite point in favor of this little place. While I can't say it was like what I grew up with, it was better than most. The sausage texture was a bit odd, and the roux could have done with more browning, but it was pretty good. My eggs (ordered over medium) came out fairly brown, but the taste was okay. I tried a bit of my husbands selection of the corned beef hash and it tasted exactly like what I grew up with - sadly, my mom got it from a can. It was very salty and I couldn't have eaten much of it. However, there were no huge negatives and the staff was very nice, making Orange Tree a solid choice for a decent breakfast at a decent price. read more

I agree with a previous author in that I do not like the breakfast at Denny's and I will tolerate the IHOP now and again. If I want breakfast or lunch I am going to go to the Orange Tree in Tamarac. I found this place about twenty years ago and have been going there ever since. Without seeming cliched, this is a "where everyone knows your name" type of local establishment. The wait staff is very attentive, learns your name very quickly and even what some of your favorite menu items are. The breakfast is served quickly, hot and is quite delicious. The favorite thing for me is the potatoes. Many other establishments make deep fried potatoes or frozen hashbrowns - Orange Tree makes fresh cut and wonderful potatoes on the grill all day long. My absolute favorite is the chicken salad. I admit to being a snob about chicken salad and rarely order it out because i'm so particular. I don't want walnuts, grapes or any of that other garbage in my chicken salad. Orange Tree takes fresh white meat chicken breasts, cooks and shreds it into the salad with celery, onion and that industrial mayo you can only get in a restaurant. It is the best! The prices have stayed reasonable throughout the years. You can still get breakfast (I recommend the #3) for under four bucks. read more
