Took my truck there for a low power/driveability issue and check engine light. They said it needed an injector but recommended all six, and an engine computer. That didn't seem correct to me (coincidentally both at the same time?). I picked up the truck, had the single injector installed, and it is repaired. Running fine with no codes. I believe this was a technique to sell me an unnecessary computer, an expensive part with a big markup that's easy to install. I went back and spoke to the owner, Nick, who would not refund the diagnosis fee, or even half of it as a goodwill gesture (we both walk away feeling like we gave a little). Recently purchased a 2015 GMC Sierra 2500HD LML pickup with the original CP4 fuel pump. I decided to upgrade this to the more reliable CP3 pump, installing it myself. That project went pretty well with the exception of a slight diesel odor when the truck was running. Finding this unacceptable I spent several months of-and-on trying to locate the leak. I like to do things myself and don't have a high level of trust for auto repair shops. I spoke with one other shop and they wanted $340 for the diagnostic and appointments were 2 months out. I then called Orangevale Diesel and they were able to get me on the schedule 3 days later with a diagnostic fee of $140. Both on the phone and when I went to dropped my truck off they were very friendly and respectful. I was expecting a little bit of an attitude from the pros since I was asking them to work on something that I had installed myself, but this was not the case. A couple of hours later I got the call, which I was halfway dreading. I asked "so is it good news?" and the staff informed me that they fixed the leak and the level of effort was within what they allotted in their diagnostic fee of $140 (apparently one of the fuel fittings assocatied with the fuel pump installation had to be loosened and retorqued and that fixed the leak). I was elated! They could have come up with any number of stories to justify a $1-2k repair cost but didn't. I thank Orangevale Diesel for being skilled, professional and honest and for restoring a bit of my faith that I can put my trust in a business. Took my 2006 GMC Durmax in for a new Turbo (code p003a). The Turbo was replaced in a fair amount of time. I cannot believe I have to write this. I had this company install an auxilliary fuel tank in the bed of my truck a few years ago. Inevitably it started to leak - not their fault, I'm sure it's just a seal or something. Yet, when I call them to have them take a look they won't even look. They say my truck is one they don't work on any longer after ownership change. This tank, and the pump that controls it, HAS NOTHING TO DO with THIS EXACT TRUCK MODEL. Nothing. DISHONEST SHOP AND OWNER, Paid over $11K and truck was damaged, all work was FLAWED I paid $5,600 to have all fuel injectors replaced on my Duramax Diesel motor. However, OV Diesel did not perform repair correctly causing injector cups to leak which damaged my motor and lead to further damage and issues. I paid $1,392 to have glow plugs replaced on my Duramax Diesel; owner Nick A. assured me I would only be charged labor once to replace plugs for each side (driver and passenger). But he charged me full labor price twice for each side. He is a convincing liar. I paid $1,599 to have the water pump replaced on my Duramax Diesel with a new one. Owner Nick A. said it was leaking bad and had to be replaced and the high cost was due to pump being gear driven. However, when I picked up my truck, the technician Brandon told me that he never saw the water pump leaking at all but they replaced it anyway. I paid $ 1, 266 to have the fuel filter housing rebuilt/repaired and fuel regulator replaced on my Duramax Diesel however, after OV diesel did repair, the truck leaked raw fuel/diesel causing health and saftey issues; after returning my truck to OV Diesel 3 times, it still leaked fuel and was not fixed until another shop fixed it correctly. They charged me and I paid over $11, 047 for the work they did. ALL the work that OV Diesel did was BAD/FLAWED; all work was under warranty yet OV Diesel did not fix or correct the damage to my engine. Every single repair done had to be redone by a proper shop, DMAX Store, who had to redo all injectors, water pump, fuel filter head unit, etc. Note when the parts OV diesel installed were removed, the parts were confirmed to be used or remanufactured NOT new parts as I had been charged on each RO/invoice (retail price). I had to pay another $4,700 to fix/correct all work OV Diesel did. OV Diesel made no attempt to fix my truck or perform any work/repairs under warranty. Owner Nick A. threatened to take me to court if I tried to hold him or his shop accountable for any of the work and cost me more money and fees! I talked to Department of Consumer Affairs and Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) who informed me that this business/owner has several complaints against it; not just mine. Look up complaints for yourselves! STAY AWAY! If you want your engine or vehicle damaged and your money stolen then go to OV Diesel! OV diesel stole my money; steals money from hard working people who work more than full time just to make a living/get by! read more

I took the parts in to show them they said I was S.O.L. This was after I had spent over $2000 there. It used to be a good shop until the previous owners sold it. We just had our 6.5L Diesel Suburban GMC '99 (404,000 miles original engine) towed to Orangevale Diesel. Yes, a diesel Suburban!!! We were in Sacramento when the Suburban would not start for the final time. My husband knew this was it:( Fortunately, we were already at British Car Service getting our '96 Jag serviced. So, one of the shop mechanics and a vendor who happened to be there confirmed the online reviews that Orangevale was our best choice. So my husband made arrangements and the truck was towed. We were surprised to see this shop only worked on diesels! We saw about 15 big pick ups! Nick said they put about 100 trucks a month thru their huge, tidy shop! We've had problems with the fuel delivery system issues for a few years now. No mechanic (dealer or otherwise) could isolate the problem. We'd had components replaced but the problem remains. My husband is hoping Orangevale can solve the problem so we can get back on the road again! We're in the line up now and waiting Nick's call. By the next day they had replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter and air filter. Steam cleaned the engine. Test drove the truck without problems. My husband spoke both with Nick and Armando. He really liked their professionalism and knowledge. They got us back on the road for $500. read more

Lost the engine computer on our 2007 Cummins 6.7 Replaced the computer with a new one but could not re-program the new computer. Had it towed to Orangevale Diesel. Dean worked on the programming demons including handling the warranty exchange on the brand new computer that had turned out to be defective. They went above and beyond in their customer service and treated us more than fairly. We hadn't even purchased the computer thru them, yet they coordinated with Dodge to get it replaced. These guys just run a great business, there's not much more to it. I bought what was supposed to be a bulletproof '97 Dodge Diesel and com to find out someone had done some after market, cheap fixes here and there. When the head gasket blew and I brought it in for replacement they fixed me up and sent me on my way. Well the part they'd purchased from an outside vendor was defective and caused additional problems with the motor. Orangevale Diesel took it upon themselves to rebuild almost the entire motor with no help from the vendor who sold them the faulty head gasket. They went above and beyond to make sure we had a solid running truck and I highly recommend them to anyone! When my truck broke down on Hwy 50, the owner came out to see if he could get it running and when he couldn't, he waited with me for the tow truck. These are seriously great people!! read more

My understanding is it has since sold to a new owner, but the new owner has an excellent reputation as well, so I'm hoping under the new ownership, the awesome service and performance will continue. Now that Dean has sold, I really regret not using Orangevale Diesel much sooner. I had always heard great things about Dean and the shop, but always took my 2003 Dodge RAM 3500 (with more than 220,000 miles) to the dealership because it was more convenient. However, with the local dealership being booked and Dean's quote coming in some 40% less than the dealer, I gave Dean a shot. What an awesome experience! I had only one experience with Dean and Orangevale Diesel and I can tell you that Dean is a true professional and made sure my truck was perfect. Also, my truck has never run better. Dean and his crew not only performed the required service (I had several oil leaks), but also recommended some diesel fuel additive (Swepco 501 Cetane Booster) with every fill-up and that honestly was the best recommendation anyone has ever made to me regarding my truck in 14 years. My truck runs perfectly and honestly MUCH better than ever before after years of service at the Dodge dealership. I had the most unpleasant experience at Orangevale Diesal. I got 2 different estimates over the phone so I decided to bring the truck in for a estimate . They gave me a verbal estimate of $1600.00dollars with the possibility of the of it costing less if the part could be resealed. . After a day and a half of not hearing from anyone I went into the facility the lady behind the counter could not seem to find my work order and had to get owner to find it. As he was explaining the work order to me she went out of eyesight behind my back and called his name and made a hand gesture .then his attention went back to computer and my estimate jumped $300.00 dollars. This place is GREAT. GREAT HONEST KNOWLEDGABLE SERVICE. Dodge wanted well over $1000 to fix the oil leak from my oil pan gaskest. ORANGEVALE DIESEL steam cleaned the engine & found that it was my oil drain plug. They also solved the water leak from coolant by pass hose, just had to tighten the clamp. This review is long overdue. A couple of years ago, I brought in my Sprinter van, which had a Mercedes diesel engine. Dean, the owner, didn't want to take the vehicle in, because he had a forboding about it, but I begged him to take it in and just do the glow plugs. I didn't know at the time that this procedure wasn't necessary, I thought glow plugs were like spark plugs, and therefore would need to be replaced after many many miles. Long story short, some problems developed, and further work was necessary. The bill grew and grew, and I sort of felt like I was getting the short end of the stick. Dean saved the day, however, and turned it in as an insurance claim with his carrier. Dean is as honest and fair as the day is long. If I still had a diesel vehicle, this is the only place I would take it for service. read more

Glad to see so many have had a good experience at Orangevale Diesel, I was not one of those. I few months back I picked up a "new to me" PSD 6.0 with 90K miles that resided in California it's entire life. After 2 months I started noticing exhaust smell in the cab. After researching the problem I narrowed it down to either the notorious y-pipe or exhaust manifold(s) which are addressed in Ford TSB 05-13-9. I did a simple test with soap/water solution and found leaks at the exhaust manifolds. I didn't want to tackle this problem because I was short on time and needed a quick turnaround. After several recommendations from family and friends I scheduled the next earliest appointment with Orangevale which was just over two weeks out and a 30 mile drive for me. I dropped off my truck at 7:15A Thursday (before the shop opens) so that they could start on it ASAP per owner's recommendation. I filled out their initial inspection / work order sheet and was then quoted 2 hours shop time for diagnosis, for an exhaust leak that I had informed them of including location. At drop off they informed me that registration should be in the vehicle so they can test drive it. Since it was new-to-me, the paperwork was not in the glovebox so I had my wife bring that with her when she came to pick me up. When my wife arrived to drop off the paperwork 60 minutes later my vehicle had not moved and was informed that the technicians start late on this day. I contacted the shop at noon to check progress but they did not have an update. Finally at 12:40PM that day I was informed that both exhaust manifolds were leaking and an updated quote. I was told at this time that they would not complete the work today being so late but they would have it started, order parts, and most likely completed early the following day (Friday). I heard nothing all morning Friday until I called for an update at noon when I was informed that they had not started the repairs yet. The quote was "We haven't started it yet so if you need it you can pick it up for the weekend." I responded by telling them that "It was not convenient for me as I was over 30 miles away and would require arranging transportation so just complete the repairs." Finally on the following Monday I received a call to let me know the vehicle was complete and ready for pickup. Total was parts plus 4.8 hours of labor. Documented labor hours in Ford TSB 05-13-9 lists 2.6 including diagnostic smoke test, R/R of both exhaust manifolds, and install of new gaskets (see below). Advise - know what you're getting into and what is involved with repair. I brought in an old ford pickup that had a fuel leak in April of 2010. Dean and Shelby were nice folks to talk to, they had two guys working in their shop at the time, a big guy with a beard and a little guy with tattoos. The one they had work on the truck was the big fella. We tried asking the little guy a few questions about the truck, but he wasnt the talkative type, although he did seem quite smart. The big guy did the job, and then took an extra five minutes to show us the old parts, explain how the system worked, and point out the location with a flashlight in case we wanted to look for ourselves and learn a bit in the process. It was very nice to have such a nice fella to deal with, in contrast to some of the less well mannered shops that I have patronized. Very good customer service from him and priced reasonably. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because of the political and religious literature on the wall of the waiting room. While I support the right to wave any flag you want, it is a good business practice not to alienate any customers, regardless. Other than that no complaints. read more
