How have I never written a review for Orchards?? We've been there countless times. They are wizards of the grill. No matter how you like your meat cooked, they will get it perfectly done. One of the best tests, for me, is pork chops. It's so hard to find folks who can grill them right. And they grill them perfectly! Juicy and delicious. If you like grilled meat or fish, there is no better place. This is one of our best "go to" places for ourselves or when folks are in town. Can't wait to see their new site! Excellent customer service and quality food/Premium meats at good prices! I come here every once in a few months for meat/food, and I order fresh turkeys from here every year for Thanksgiving. I always receive great customer service, but today I was helped at the butcher counter by Troy. Troy's service and conversation was a comfort in the anxiousness and confusion of the pandemic that we are currently in the midst of. Hopped in for lunch on a day I was in the neighborhood. This is an interesting establishment since it's both a butchery and a restaurant with some random market items splashed in between. After perusing the store/butcher shop, I ordered lunch from the counter. The staff recommended items from their smoker. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and the tri-tip sandwich and added baked beans, pasta salad, and potato salad. The sandwiches come with a side of regular or spicy BBQ sauce. I had everything packaged to-go because I was short on time. I was not impressed by the tri-tip sandwich. It was dry and flavorless alone. It was palatable when I added a healthy amount of their sauce which was a nice balance of vinegar and sweet. The pulled pork fared much better...and each element was packed separately so the sandwich would not get soggy...loved the thoughtfulness behind that. The baked beans were good, the pasta salad was okay, but the potato salad was pretty flavorless, too...it was just bland. I was impressed with the service. The staff here is super nice and are well-versed with the menu items. Because it wasn't too busy, they were more than happy to share samples from the Boar's Head deli. There's also a great assortment of bottles and canned drinks in the refrigerated section...lots of colas and root beers...and some actual beer, too. If you fancy something more substantial, they will be happy to cook any item in the butcher shop for you, too. There was a ribeye special the day I walked in. I would have to come back to try some other items. I hear the cheeseburger is good, and I do want to try a steak one day, too. read more

Ambiance 7/10- kind of grungy, and not very welcoming for a dine in experience. Sandwiches 8/10- I got the tri tip sandwich and it was amazing! They give it to you with a side of BBQ sauce. Although it was a little small for the price, but the meat was amazing and I would probably break down and get it again. Coleslaw 2/10- that was the most watery coleslaw I have ever had. It didn't have any sort of flavor. I really wanted to like it but I was disappointed. Soda selection 8.5/10- really solid collection to choose from. The rootbeer I had this time was amazing and they have a couple other drinks I know I like. Overall, I would come back, but probably not frequently because of the price:quantity ratio. My first time at Orchard's Fresh Foods and ohhhh my gosh my sandwich was a amazing. I ordered a roast beef sandwich dip and added pepper jack cheese, lettuce and pickles. It was Bomb.com. My sandwich was so warm, the bread was so soft, the pickles were so crunch and the roast beef was very juicy. Great place in Whittier to pickup some fine steaks and deli meats. I got sick and tired of eating lousy steaks from Stater Brothers so I decided to find a real butcher in the Whittier area. This was the only place that came up near the house. I had eaten a sandwich from here a long time ago and cant recall how it was, so I plan to come back and try something from their kitchen. The reason for my visit here was for a quality steak. Yes, they have some really awesome steaks here. Prime and Choice cuts. The prime ribeye sells for $17.99 per lb. Yeah, pretty expensive but worth it for the quality you receive. I bought 1 cut of Choice top sirloin for $10.99 a lb and a half pound of chorizo. Both the sirloin and the chorizo were very good quality. The chorizo has no grease and cooks up quickly. This is my new place to go to for steaks and chorizo. No more with stater brothers nasty steaks. read more

As a special and pretty expensive lunch, today we ordered the family meal of baby back ribs "to go". The meal was to include 1-1/2 racks of ribs with 2 sides and 6 rolls. The sides are pretty small for a family meal. The potato salad was okay, the beans tasted just like Van Camps pork & beans but with small pieces of sliced ham added, the rolls (6 small, sliced sandwich rolls) were good, the ribs were as if they were parboiled and then heated up. Meaty, undercooked and very tough. For 1-1/2 racks it should be +-18 ribs but we received 13 with 4 of them tiny. The ribs were served already cut into one bone pieces and put into a cardboard box which seemed odd. Felt ripped off for over $50. read more

We've been coming here for years and today WILL BE OUR LAST TIME HERE. We ordered our food at the counter and they forgot to put one of the items on the receipt. We noticed about 5 minutes after ordering because we were looking up our order number. We asked them if the hamburger was ordered and they said they forgot to punch it in. So we waited for our food. Before our food arrived we also ordered a chicken sandwich to go, thinking that it would arrive before we finished our meal. 2 of the 3 orders came but not the hamburger that they forgot to add to the receipt, and they said it would be right out. It took about 15 minutes for the last hamburger to arrive at the table. When we finished our meal the chicken sandwich was still not done we waited another 10 minutes before asking about it. When we did, we realized they had NOT started our order, confusing a warm chicken sandwich with a cold cut. And again they said it would be right out. So we waited thinking they would surely hurry this time around. During our wait time we witnessed the server drop off food at the wrong table twice and then just take that food from the table and give it to the proper patron. We waited another 30 minutes for our to go order, while watching the employees behind the counter laughing and talking with each other. We were not the only tables order that they messed up as another customer, 2 ladies whose order they also mixed up left complaining that they themselves would not come back. read more

This is a cool place and it has prime meats so if you interested in a prime delmonico (my favorite) and you've got the cash to pay upwards of $17 a pound, this is the place to go. Fantastic food. Everything here is delicious. Best french dip sandwich I've had and the burgers are bomb. They'll grill anything they have at the butcher for you, including the house made sausages (they have about 8 different types). Eat your food there on the outside patio for the best experience. Minus one star for their super crappy A/C and air quality. It's ALWAYS hot inside with little to no air flow. Some days you can see the smoke literally hanging in the air. read more

This is a great place to buy your meat the quality of the meat is great. Pretty pricey for a Tomahawk steak. But it is affordable compared to downtown Los Angeles too expensive and quality was not good. Their staff are very helpful and courteous. Let me tell you my husband BBQ the tomahawk steaks and they came out great and it was delicious. You have to know how to cook your meat and know when it's done. We ordered the tri-tip and baby back ribs, the meat was barely room temperature warm, the tri-tip was mediocre at best (kind of flavorless tbh) and the ribs were decent. They initially forgot our bbq sauce so we had to go back for that. The sides, again, flavorless, I had to add salt to the red skin potato salad and my husband said his mashed potatoes and mac n cheese were just bland. I do alot of driving across the Whittier area.Ive always passed a place on the east side of the Boulevard.Theres a trail of smoke and the smell of fine smoked meats that permeates the air.You guessed it your at Orchards.Its a nursery slash meat market slash eatery slash catering.They do it all.I should of come here years ago,I've been missing out.Took my boy KP from work to lunch there.The Bbq was going, it was a good eating vibe walking in.We both got the pulled pork!It was of the chains,they make there own bbq sauce.You gotta try the spicy,it was the shit.Made my lips tingle.Lunch was great!Then I had to walk the prim the meat selection was off the chains.Come to find out they do take out on large portions.Im jumping on it.Thats it ,it was fantastic! read more

Have been buying meats and hot foods at Orchards since they opened several years ago. This is truly a Mom and Pop operation, owned by Troy and his wife. The butcher shop has Choice and Prime beef, all hand trimmed from sides of beef. They will special order any meat, cut to your specifications. The deli has Boars Head meet, top of the line, they will make any special sandwich you want or off the menu. BBQ is all done in house and very good. Here is what most folks do not know, they will grill ANY meat right out of their meat case and serve it. You want a steak, chicken, fish, pick your item and they will grill it outdoors for you.
