This time we went with the traditional shashuka. It tasted sweet and spicy. It's more of a breakfast item in Israel, so really happy it's on the all day menu here. I also ordered the chicken hummus, which is a generous amount of fresh hummus with grilled chicken that is great in texture. The chunks of juicy chicken meat makes the dish substantial and I prefer this kind of cut than the ground beef. I cannot imagine reheating this left over at home, so it's best to eat it fresh. I really like Oren's Hummus because of their high quality food items. They use organic chicken and their baba ganoush is outstanding. Grilled chicken rice bowl is my goto food here. This location is huge and they have great ambience and a big space to sit. They have a separate counter for togo orders. It's a chain store and have got their stores at fantastic locations. Let's be real, how many Israeli or Mediterranean restaurants are in Cupertino anyway? Slim to none. I wanted something different but comforting and after finding out Oren's is located near one of my sites, I figure, why not?! I came in to find the place slightly packed. I was fortunate enough to have a table within minutes and was greeted by their staff. Their menu isn't overwhelming and they have a touch of everything: a wide variety of hummus dishes, pitas, and entrees. It didn't take long for me to decide on a dish. As soon as I saw schnitzel on the menu, I just had to order it. The Schnitzel De Noir is a breaded marinated chicken breast served with sweet mashed potatoes and greens. The chicken was lightly breaded and juicy. The mashed potato had a lovely sweet tang to it and the beans were tossed in some amazing spices. Everything complimented so well together and I enjoyed every bite. I also ordered their babaganoush eggplant hummus and that alone had so much flavor. I could literally eat this all day!! And for those who like spices, they offer some hot sauce and a green dip on the side which really enhances a lot of flavor. The wheat pita bread was delicious and warm. One can literally eat the bread alone too. It's that good and fresh! Service was amazing. The server that day was very polite, friendly, and didn't rush me throughout my meal despites how busy it was. The decor and ambiance was bright, clean, and comforting. I love Oren's Hummus and have been to many of their locations here in the Bay Area. This was my first time at this particular location so we ordered take out through Yelp. We ordered the family meal which came with 3 entrees, 4 side dishes, 6 pieces of pita, 2 desserts, and the options of 3 sauces. We opted for 2 orders of chicken skewer (always so flavorful and tender!), one order of beef kebab, original hummus, baklava, and chocolate babka. We also ordered all 3 sauces (red chili garlic, green harissa, and tahini) as well that came in their own squeeze bottles (can be saved and reused for a few meals). The total was $77.47 including tax. All the portions were pretty generous, but the family meal was advertised to feed 3-4 people. I think it's leaning more towards 3 since we had a little leftover as two people eating. Everything tasted delicious, fresh, and well made. They seasoned everything perfectly and we really thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The service was also really great as the staff was friendly and professional when we went to pick up our order. As a parent: If you have kids, the Monday 'kids eat free' deal is a nice option (get a kids meal free if you purchase an entree). I appreciate restaurants that offer a day of the week like this. We will probably take our kids to go eat at other places though; see the negatives of our experiences below. // As a person dining who wants to feel comfortable in the space that I'm eating in: I do not think we will be eating here anymore. We've eaten here 6 times in the last year (with our 2 kids), spread out throughout the year, and each time we eat here, the experience has gotten worse and worse (and yet I've tried to revisit the location because I enjoy Israeli food). We always sit indoors, and as of the last few visits, I find myself not ever wanting to come back. The worst aspect of eating here has been that there are unsanitary flies that constantly fly around our eating table - they land on my food, my kids' food, on the utensils and napkins, and I don't know anyone who wants flies on their food - do you? When we asked if the staff could do anything about this, they said that they would "close the doors" (which for an open-air vibe restaurant doesn't really do much, given that the front door and patio doors still constantly open with people going in and out). In our last visit, a fly landed on my pita, and I smooshed it with my fingers to show the staff. I also managed to kill a fly on a white napkin and that's the picture you see here. (I finally searched other Yelp reviews and it seems like this is not the first time there has been a fly issue either.) Additionally the service has gotten weirder and worse each time we go. The wait staff we've had tends to squirrel us away in a corner each time we've visited, despite the restaurant not being that full for Mondays (when we go). This means that sometimes it's hard to get water refills (because the staff isn't paying attention). Additionally, it feels like every time we go, we've had a new waiter because giving my order takes a while and half the time it takes a lot of repeating or confirming that the waiter understood what I said. After this last visit, I felt a little sick after eating my food, unsure if any flies had landed in my pita sandwich while I went to the restroom and wasn't able to constantly monitor all of our food and swat away flies. Again, i don't know anyone who wants to eat somewhere with flies landing in their food and crawling around on the table items. The boyfriend and I stopped by here on a weekday for dinner and we were blown away by how great our experience was, especially since this was our first time dining in at a Mediterranean restaurant. Would highly recommend the hummus beef and lamb bowls and pita bread! My boyfriend really enjoyed his lamb plate--it was perfectly seasoned and went well with the pita bread, which was super soft and fluffy (they serve both white and wheat pita)! We also got an order of the Flying Goat Pressed Coffee, which was very aromatic and delicious. :-) As for the ambiance, the restaurant has a cozy but upscale vibe--there is a huge chandelier hanging from the ceiling which was nice to look at! My only issue with this location is that they don't have tzatziki and the last time I went, they forgot to include the pita in my take-out order. Here are the details on our order: Babaganoush with whole wheat pita: ok so the Babaganoush was good, but the pita was not warm at all and somehow didn't feel as fresh. In the past, I remember pita being complimentary or at least 2 pieces for two people? This time around we got only a single pita - cold and dry. Israeli Salad with Falafel: the falafel was good - crispy and mild flavors just as I like it, but the salad was too lemony and salty....I was super hungry, but was unable to finish. Barely ate half. Brussels sprouts: Please trust me and do not order this. I was hoping for it to be warm and crispy, but It is served cold and soggy with a weird taste ...like it is stale or spoiled. I asked the waiter and he said, "if you had asked me I would not have recommended this dish as even I don't like it at all." We returned it and were not charged for it, but still disappointed. We ordered another spinach and egg dish (forget the name) - it was average too, a bit too heavy and bland. I was really looking forward to revisiting this place after a long time, but all in all the food was a disappointment and ruined my experience. Updating my review as it has been a few years and I moved from the Bay Area but I always find myself returning here whenever I visit Cupertino. The hummus is delightfully creamy and not overly salty. I like the touch of paprika on top. Today, I tried some new dishes: Vegetable skewer: beautifully roasted and spiced, served nice and warm. Romanian eggplant: tangy and sweet Greek salad: looks healthy, tastes refreshing and rich from the olives and feta The waiters were attentive and kind despite me showing up close to their closing time, and they offered me more pickled cabbage, etc. The restaurant itself was clean and pleasant, the music not too loud and the lighting bright enough to actually eat the food with my eyes. Now to put things into context: Since I moved to San Diego, my new go-to hummus place has become a place called Pita 22, which is also great (and different). The pita at Oren's is more bready and dries quickly while the pita at Pita 22 is more traditional, dense, and moist. The hummus at Pita 22 is a tad too salty for me, likely due to the tahini they use. Oren's strikes a better salt balance. I have also been to Israel where the pita more closely resembles Pita 22 but the hummus resembles Oren's more. So, I guess it's up to your personal preference. One thing I do miss: Oren's used to have a mushroom hummus bowl it got removed from the menu. I would really like to savor it again though. read more

I always get the Shakshuka, which I recommend once you've tried their hummus dishes! Their pita is unique; it's super fluffy and soft, and perfect for dipping and piling protein on. Their spicy sauces they have on each table are absolutely delicious. If you're a spice lover, they are perfect on everything. I had it once in Palo Alto and remembered it fondly, so I went there with my daughter. Since the place we went today was in front of the Cupertino school, I thought there would be a lot of people because it was after school, but there were no people at any table, so I thought it was strange, and that's when I realized it. Later, there was a service charge on the bill that I didn't know about, so I asked and they said it was a tip for the kitchen staff. In the 19 years I've lived in San Jose, this is the first time I've experienced a restaurant that takes a tip like this without even mentioning it. One more thing to add. Please get rid of flies. It was uncomfortable to have to shoo flies away while eating. I ordered white pita but they gave me wheat pita. I guess it's understandable if you're in a very busy. And the server didn't asked me about the add tip 18%. Isn't it the customer's decision? It's okay to give to someone who worked hard.
