We love Oren's! We had an out of town visitor, and we wanted to treat her to a taste of Israel in California. It's a small menu, but every item is a Tel Aviv classic. Hummus four ways (I like Jaffa style.), shakshuka, skewers of beef, lamb, or chicken. Israeli chopped salad. My friend tried to order in Hebrew, but that doesn't work here; the wait staff speaks Spanish and English. They serve Gold Star beer, also lemonade and mint iced tea. My go to for this delightful creation called a Sabbich. Its a cross between egg salad and potato salad served in a Pita, and full of yum! The menu has everything we want, from Keto options to kids food. My daughters favorite is the schnitzel pita. The only negative is parking at either the Cupertino or Castro location. If you have a minute, and time to burn, its fine, but if you're an overly busy mom like me, Door Dash is the way to go. read more

You can't go wrong with any of the hummus choices! I say this after double checking their menu; I have tried all of their hummus except for two, and the reason for not trying those two is that I personally don't like specific ingredients in them. I would say my go-to is the hummus lamb. I also very much like the hummus chicken liver, hummus cauliflower, and hummus jaffa style. The hummus is so smooth and rich. Their pita bread is soft, warm, and fluffy. All the salads are delicious and fresh. Chicken skewer and beef kebabs are good. I prefer the beef kebab because it is made of ground beef and lamb. For dips and sides, I'd say go for the sampler plate if it's your first time. They put together a very comprehensive plate for you to taste test. My significant other and I like to order the babaganoush eggplant and falafel side. The eggplant in the babaganoush is fire-roasted, allowing you to enjoy that wonderful smoky aftertaste. The sauces they have on the side are also great. They're on the spicy side and add another level of flavor to the food. We've been here so many times and the quality of food has always been consistent. The service is also consistent with the staff being very friendly. Service is on the slower end, but not an issue for me because the overall experience is so great. You can tell they genuinely care about their customers' satisfaction when they check in on them. read more

If you are a fan of Mediterranean food you are going to love this place! What makes this place stand out from others are their delicious flavored hummus (literally so many flavors!). My friend and I came here and enjoyed a refreshing Greek salad while sharing a plate of hummus and falafel. This was honestly the best tasting hummus I have ever had. Only downfall is the menu seemed one dimensional, it has a long list of items, but 80 percent of the menu is a different kind of hummus. I mean I kind of understand since the place is called Orens hummus lol. I was just wishing for more variety and a better balanced menu. Alrighty so minus that, this place is great the venue is absolutely gorgeous, especially the patio seating on a warm day. I've been to the one in Palo Alto and I was impressed with the restaurant so I decided to try the one in Mountain View. In general, the service was a bit slow. It probably didn't help that we were hungry. The pita bread came out a long while before the hummus and so the bread got cold. We had the grilled chicken kebab and the rice bowl with beef kebab . I enjoyed the rice bowl. I remember absolutely loving the grilled chicken kebab in Palo Alto but this time around, it wasn't that great. Maybe it's just a bad day in the kitchen. Always a great experience when I come here! The workers actually remember me from when I was a DoorDasher! Family atmosphere with amazing quality food. Downtown Mountain View is also just a fun place to hang out with friends and stroll up and down the street. My mom can be a picky eater when it comes to eating out, but she absolutely LOVED the food here. She ordered the Chicken Kebab which she felt was cooked to perfection! She's looking forward to bringing my dad he someday as well. Will come back when I'm in the area. Hope they bring it to the Morgan Hill/Gilroy area in the near future! read more

We have always enjoyed Oren's hummus and I am surprised I have not yet reviewed it. :) We have been to all the locations in south bay now. I love their Hummus and fresh pita and of course the yummy sauces. We usually order falafel balls side, Moroccan carrots and beets. Lately, they have started charging for additional pita. When we used to come here earlier, they used to readily give us extra pita and even used to pack additional pita when we had leftovers to go. They also sell hummus and sauce in small containers. We also catered from Oren's hummus and that was a great experience. The website has all the prices and options clearly listed. I just had to call their catering line and Juan helped me place the order and send invoice. The pick up was smooth and they had packed everything nicely and provided plates and silverware. I thought the quantity of the sauces provided was a little less for the order and we had to buy additional sauces. read more

Oren's Hummus never disappoints! Fav dishes (no pics here because I could never wait...): Hummus Cauliflower: the raisins and almond chips add such interesting flavor and texture to the hummus. Traditional Shakshuka: such comforting food. The light acidity of the tomatoes is perfectly balanced with the faintest note of sweetness of the warm eggs. Oren's hummus delivers great quality food along with decent service. Their hummus is probably my favorite in the Bay area. Their Pita bread is generally soft but really fills you up and that's my biggest problem with it. We got the sweet potato fries to start. They were fantastic with the spicy mayo. I got the chicken hummus and my friend got the falafel pita. Please make sure you get the mint lemonade, which has free refills. Very very refreshing. This has been a go to place for so many years now and the food has been consistently good. This specific review is for when I came in with my colleagues for a team lunch. We were around 14 of us and had a reservation. They made sure the table was set up and ready when we arrived. Our server was exceptional at handling all of our drink and food orders and kudos to her for even taking special care of dietary concerns. All of our food came out at a reasonable time, was great quality and decent portion sizes. We even got a few beverages like their white wine, Turkish coffee, a couple beers and everything was great! Oren's hummus has always been on my list, and I finally gave it a visit. It was extremely popular and was packed on a Tuesday night at 8pm. This was definitely a good sign. I ordered the new Beet hummus, and substituted the pita for veggies. The combination of the beets, goat cheese, walnuts, and hummus was amazing! I definitely will need to try that combination again, and many others! My server was also great! My only issue was that the hummus was good, but nothing crazy compared to store bought Sabra hummus. (That might just be how good Sabra is.) I could likely reproduce the dish at home for cheaper. That aside, they serve a huge variety of dishes and I will need to try the others! in a few minutes, you are warmly greeted and in a few more minutes a couple mini bowls of cole slaw appear. I enjoyed the Schnitzel de Noir, aka Schnitzel of the day. It arrived in ten minutes or so, looking all golden brown and the chicken was not dry but moist and meaty. Wonderful panko type crust. served with a side of string beans masterfully grilled, with a scoop of potato mash that was smooth and tasty. $19.99 for some perfection. Washed it down with a 2018 Gilgal Cabernet Sauvignon, just $13.99 for a six ounce glass. Your tongue will be happy. Customer service: very good. Our waters never went past 1/2 empty. The menu does not say Kosher or Halal; I reckon it is good for all human beings. And yummy it is. read more

Part of getting older is knowing one's limits. Yes, Oren's offers complimentary pita bread (whole wheat and regular) with free refills, and yes, there was a time when I would've stuffed five baskets of them eagerly down into my bottomless stomach. And no, you won't find me doing that anymore. How bout them hummus dishes, huh? That's what this place is named for, after all. I ordered the Hummus Beef ($10.95), which according to the menu is hummus topped with ground beef and pine nuts. The hummus tasted fresh and had a dash of olive oil, and the beef was decent and was topped with some green onions. However, I didn't taste the pine nuts in my dish, which was disappointing since I was looking forward to trying pine nuts with hummus for the first time. I also had some of the tabule (aka tabouleh) which is made with quinoa instead of couscous, which was interesting because quinoa is not native to Levantine/Middle Eastern cuisine. But hey, we're the Bay Area and love our superfoods, and quinoa happens to be gluten free. The tabule was palatable and had a distinctive minty flavor. The portion sizes felt a bit small for the price, but I guess that's the Castro Street premium. 3.5 stars, no real "wow" factor, but Oren's is a likeable joint that I wouldn't mind coming back to. read more

I've never met Oren, but his Hummus is the bomb. Actually, even better than the hummus is the freshest and warmest pita bread that it's served with. I went to Oren's on a Wednesday night for the first time, and I can confidently say that I will be back. We ordered the mushroom hummus bowl, one whole wheat pita and one white pita, plus 3 sweet cheese pastries and 3 mushroom stuffed pastries. Absolutely EVERYTHING was delicious, and tasted fresher than fresh. Our waiter was fantastic and the prices were pretty reasonable considering one appetizer-ish plate and one hummus bowl fed two hungry gals with enough left over for a snack later that evening. All the flavors were there, the tahini, the cucumbers, the tomatoes -- everything worked in harmony. I also caved into my sweet craving and ordered the baklava. True to the name, their hummus is amazing. I like the regular hummus more than the (many) varieties. Have it with the white pitas, not the whole wheat -- who are you kidding? It's not going to be health food. For a vegetarian, this place is great -- so many choices. I tend to order the choose-three-items set, and I've never gone wrong with my choices. I like their Moroccan carrots a lot. Their falafels are great, too. The baba ganoush, while good, is not life-changing. That distinction belongs to Noura, in Paris, which redefined what eggplant could be and nearly brought me to tears. But Oren's is really great, and a little easier to get to. :) Two minor nits. It's *noisy* inside, making it hard to eat here if you have any hopes of having a conversation. There are a lot of hard surfaces inside that they really should cover with something to cut the noise. Secondly, it's a bit hard to order the right amount of food, especially if you're dining alone. The pick-3 is great, but you have to have some hummus, and now you'd better be REALLY hungry. Sort of too much for one person, but too little to share. First-world problems, I know. Anyway, I recommend Oren's. I eat there regularly, and I've never been disappointed. read more

A big scoop of their signature hummus is topped with a deeply flavorful ground beef and a little olive oil. They are not shy with spices on this, but they don't overwhelm the beef or hummus. Not spicy. Served with extremely fresh pita bread, puffy and soft inside and tender-chewy outside. Served hot, it bursts with yeasty and fresh bread aroma. Generous portion (I took the rest home for dinner). The service was great, too. Water was refilled frequently and the waiter was courteous and efficient. read more

Oren's is hands-down my favorite hummus/falafel/Middle Eastern food joint. This location is on Castro St of downtown MV, so parking is usually difficult (though the lots and streets are all free, there's just so many people here!) and there is usually a wait. Worst case, you can always order to-go and eat elsewhere. I definitely recommend ordering a hummus dish (any of them!). We got the classic, which was a huge bowl of delicious creamy hummus. It came with a basket of pita (4 pieces) and you can get it white, wheat or mixed (so 2 of each). They make mean pita bread that just keeps you wanting more :D We also ordered the chicken skewer plate, which comes with 2 sides, and we got a small Israeli salad and falafels (5 pieces). The chicken was perfection, moist and tender, with a rich but not overpowering flavor. The salad was pretty good, but nothing particularly special. The falafels were the best I've ever had. Crispy on the outside, soft and moist on the inside (not like some which are dry on the inside). We also ordered an extra side of the famous Oren's eggplant ($4.25). It doesn't look like much (in fact, it just looks like purple/brown-ish mush), but it was amazing! Didn't taste like eggplant much, but it was kind of sweet and very addicting. Give a try if you've never had it, even if you don't like eggplant, you might be surprised! We also ordered a glass of the Israeli white and red wines (which were $9 each). The red didn't taste particularly different from the usual red wines, but the white was very refreshing and I'd probably prefer that in the future. Overall, solid and very enjoyable meal. The restaurant isn't too big, so the seats are kinda cramped very close together, but the food makes it all worth it. If you want to try a little bit of everything, order a bunch of plates family style and share the love :P read more
