Visited this place for the team lunch this Friday. It's an amazing place with lots of sitting available in inside and outside. We ordered a bunch of food like a sampler which had six small sides and two pita breads with the side of two extra pita bread. Everyone ordered a main dish. I ordered a pita sandwich with falafels. And I absolutely loved it. Their drink menu is amazing. I had warm apple cider and it was absolutely delicious. I would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for a warm drink this winter season. Finally for the desert, we ordered chocolate moussse, some brittle and Babka. Everything was absolutely delicious. The staff is really friendly and nice. They took good care of us. They checked on us regularly. And they made sure to ask for any add-ons or any other preferences that we might have for our meals. Overall, a nice spot for some good food and nice ambience.

What an excellent dining experience! I'm so glad we landed at Orens Hummus! Christian gave us excellent service and the food fantastic. My favorite was the falafel and the hummus & pita but overall it was delicious! Well done Orens Hummis - if we're ever in the area we will definitely be back!

Small Hummus Dip. Hands down, the best Hummus in The Bay!

I've been a loyal fan of Oren's for a while, usually swinging by to grab a large hummus to-go, but this was actually my first time sitting down for a proper meal at the Castro Street location. I'm happy to report that the experience holds up just as well as the takeout. * The Service: The service was excellent across the board. Our server was incredibly patient and friendly, which really adds to the welcoming, bustling energy of the place. * The Food: Everything was very well prepared and packed with those authentic Mediterranean flavors you expect here. ** Small Hummus Dip: The namesake of this place is the absolute star. It is thick, creamy, and so flavorful that I honestly think using it as a "dip" is doing it a disservice. You should really just spoon it directly into your mouth! Don't waste this hummus on enhancing something else--let the hummus be selfish - haha. ** Falafel (Side): We ordered the 5-piece side, and they were perfectly fried with a great texture. ** Beef Kebab Rice Bowl: My main was the rice bowl with beef kebabs. The meat was well-seasoned, and like most things here, the portion was definitely substantial. * The Drinks: The biggest pleasant surprise was the seasonal hot mulled wine. On a cold afternoon, this was exactly what I needed. It's hard to find a place that serves it piping hot without losing the natural flavors to a boil, but they nailed it. My date's hot apple cider was equally flavorful and served at that same perfect, steaming temperature. * The Environment & Value: The space is casual but nice, with those signature Moroccan floor tiles giving it some great character. While Castro Street prices can sometimes feel a bit high, the quality and the "village-sized" portions make it a fair trade-off. * The Bottom Line: Whether you're grabbing a container to-go or sitting down for a hot meal and some mulled wine, Oren's remains a Mountain View staple. I'll definitely be back--and I'll probably still be eating that hummus with a spoon :)

Love their eggplant hummus always hits the spot. The kabob pita was good but didn't realize they would put the fries inside! the wait is always long so maybe will call in my order next time.

3 stars overall This review is long overdue I had a perfectly fine experience here overall. The hummus was decent, but for me it didn't quite stand out as exceptional compared to other hummus I have had. The food was overall enjoyable, just not something that felt especially memorable. Service was okay, polite and fairly efficient, though nothing that particularly stood out one way or the other. The space was casual overall. I can see why people enjoy it, but I was a bit surprised by the very large number of glowing reviews given my experience. Still, it's a decent option if you are in the area and looking for a straightforward, reliable hummus.

Chicken hummus bowl 3/5 - nothing special with this dish. I ordered this by accident. I initially wanted to get a bowl with rice and some sides and chicken. But this was just a bunch of hummus, some bits of chicken and pita bread that wasn't enough for the hummus. Nothing special with the hummus. Tastes like regular hummus in my opinion. A side of rice would have been an extra $7.. so pricey so I didn't get it

This is one of our favorite restaurants. Place is clean, regular table & chairs, employees are super nice and it's relaxing. Chicken schnitzel is moist and crisp. Flavor of kebab and rice is good. My favorite is shakshuka, eggs in tomato sauce. I ask for them well done. The sampler of dips and marinated vegetables are always good. Food is consistently good but it's not the super best. Some restaurants just really excel on some dishes, make it their own and they are great. These are exactly what you expect.

Love Oren's hummus! Was walking along Castro and craving some good Mediterranean food so decided to go to Oren's as it never disappoints. We came 30 minutes before closing on a Monday and the staff still seated us without rushing us at all. I got the Pita Falafel and then my friends got the Pita Chicken and Sampler Dish. The pita falafel was a 5/5 - delicious! Generous amount of hummus which I appreciated. Falafels were flavorful and the vegetables tasted fresh. Very filling. My friends enjoyed the pita chicken and sampler dish. One thing to note - my friend got one whole wheat pita and one white pita with the sampler dish and said the whole wheat pita was rather stale and tough to chew. Might have been due to the fact that we came late in the day. She still liked her dish and said she would just get white pita next time. I love how the food at Oren's Hummus feels very clean and fresh, while still managing to be packed with lots of flavor. Great service and great food. I would definitely return!

Oren's Fattoush Salad with Grilled Chicken

Split the garlic hummus with a friend and it was good, but not out of this world. The whole wheat pita was soft, fluffy, and delicious on the side. I was craving some veggies so I went with the Fattoush Salad with grilled chicken and it was absolutely delicious! Service was friendly and attentive and the place was very clean and tidy. The only downside is the restaurants is very expensive for the portion size. A small serving of hummus to share and my salad with chicken was almost $40 with tip (a well deserved tip I will say!). The place was simply delicious, but the value per dollar spend might be my limiting factor in returning.

Been here a couple times over the past couple of years and it's always been a pretty reliable spot for some great hummus/mediterranean food! They have plenty of seating, both outdoor and indoor and we've never had to wait for a table. The staff are also always very friendly! ~The Food~ - Quick-Fried Cauliflower Florets: My favorite app here! These fried cauliflower bites come with a creamy pesto labane sauce, which I love! One downside is that the fried cauliflower can sometimes be pretty oily (a bit overwhelming), so I'd say definitely share among a group! - Eggplant Hummus: A huge bowl of fresh hummus topped with soft braised eggplant in tomato stew; The eggplant is so well seasoned and pairs so well with the hummus and pita. - Shakshuka: I've never tried shakshuka before this, and I really enjoyed it! The eggs were runny and the tomato stew was nicely seasoned! - Pita Bread: We've tried both their wheat and white pita bread options and they are SO fluffy and delicious. They usually serve them warm and I would say these pitas are my favorite part of my meals at Orens. ~Pricing~ Overall, I'd say the pricing is quite reasonable! Many of their dishes are very much shareable and so we usually don't order much and leave feeling very satisfied!

Wonderful Sunday lunch last week. The fried cauliflower florets starter was great. Nicely fried, not greasy with a good thick pesto labane sauce. We loved the muhamarra with the fried pita strips. Had some the next day and it was still fantastic. The chicken pita sandwich was good. My chickpea salad was tasty, but I wasn't expecting the chickpeas to be so firm. The chocolate babka was great, not too sweet. The staff was attentive and the service was prompt. Nice atmosphere too, casual and welcoming.

Ask the Community - Oren's Hummus

Is the lamb and chicken kosher?

Hello Rajat, Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, we are not certified kosher at any of our locations or items.

Do you pick up the phone?

    Yes, we do.

Does the regular Hummus has Tahini mixed in by default? Asking since I am allergic to Tahini.

But I'm certain there's tahini. That's how traditional hummus is made.

Meyhouse Sunnyvale -- Excellent Food, but the Service Pacing Could Be Much Better…read more I tried the $44.95 three-course prix fixe lunch and chose the Köpoğlu as my meze, upgraded the main to the Adana Kebab for $3, and added the Künefe for $2. The food was the strongest part of the experience, and several things stood out more than I expected. The complimentary bread was excellent--warm, fragrant, and nicely textured. I also really enjoyed the green herb sauce served with it. The parsley and mint flavors were quite pronounced, almost grassy, but in a good way. It was fresh and aromatic and worked very well with the bread. The Köpoğlu was one of the highlights of the meal. The roasted eggplant, tomato sauce, garlic yogurt, and olive oil were very well balanced. I especially liked the garlic yogurt--the acidity, garlic, and creaminess were all present without any one element overpowering the others. The tomato added sweetness and acidity, while the olive oil rounded everything out. It was especially good with the bread. The Adana Kebab was also very good. My first bite came from the end of the skewer and was slightly dry, but once I got into the center, the meat was noticeably juicier. The char from the grill was excellent, and the lamb had a clear lamb flavor without being gamey. The chopped red pepper mixed into the meat also added another layer of aroma and flavor. Even the rice surprised me. It looked like plain white rice, but it was flavorful enough to eat on its own, with a noticeable buttery, almost milky aroma. The flatbread underneath the kebab was also very good after soaking up some of the lamb juices and fat. If I had one criticism of the main plate itself, it would be the proportion of onion-tomato salad to meat. The salad tasted fine, but for my preference, there was a little too much of it. I really enjoy the lingering flavor of grilled lamb, and while the rice and bread help carry that flavor, the raw onion and tomato act as a strong palate cleanser and erase it quickly. Since the meat portion was relatively small compared with the rice and salad, I would personally prefer a little more kebab and a little less salad. The Künefe was another highlight. I really enjoyed the contrast between the crispy kadayıf on the outside and the soft, warm cheese inside. The pistachios on top were not something I particularly enjoyed by themselves, but mixed together with the cheese, syrup, and crispy pastry, they made much more sense. The first few bites, especially the areas that had not absorbed too much syrup, were excellent. Toward the center it became a little sweeter than I prefer, but overall I still liked it very much. Food-wise, I would actually give Meyhouse a slight edge over Dishdash. There were more layers and more small details to notice throughout the meal, from the bread and herb sauce to the Köpoğlu, Adana, rice, flatbread, and dessert. The service, however, did not match the level of the food. The restaurant was quite quiet at lunch, but the pacing was surprisingly rushed. I had barely started eating the Köpoğlu when the main course arrived. For a menu specifically presented as a three-course prix fixe, I expected the courses to be paced more deliberately. Instead, I had to choose between continuing to enjoy the appetizer and eating the kebab while it was still hot. There was also an issue with clearing the table. One staff member who was not the person taking my order repeatedly tried to remove my bread and the green herb sauce. The first time, I specifically asked him to leave the sauce. Later, after I finished the main course, he came back and again started clearing both without asking. I told him I wanted the bread to go, so he left the bread, but still removed the herb sauce. It was a small detail, but it made the service feel mechanical rather than attentive to what the guest had already requested. Overall, I would rate the food around 8.5/10 and the service around 6.5-7/10. Meyhouse is a little more expensive than Dishdash, but the prix fixe lunch is also very substantial. I only ate about half of the complimentary bread, and I was already quite full after the main course. Finishing the Künefe left me completely stuffed, so the portion size is definitely generous. I would still come back. Next time, I would probably try the Ahtapot, especially since it is only a $9 upgrade on the prix fixe compared with $25 à la carte. The food gives me a reason to return; I just hope the pacing and attention to small service details are better next time.

I love the grilled onion and pepper mixture they put in it as well, complements the bbq sauce perfectly. The salad has a nice light honey mustard dressing, the basmati rice is seasoned and cooked to perfection, the pita it comes with is warm and every so slightly crisp and the chicken is beautifully cooked and drizzled with a special white garlic sauce. They also give you a hot sauce and yogurt sauce on the side which is great to dip each bite in (if they don't give you these sauces make sure to ask for them on the side!) Service: I always get helped right away and they are very accommodating with requests like extra sauce and sometimes I even order ahead for dine in! Like I basically call in saying I'll be there in 15 mins and I want to eat there and then when I get there the food is ready and served asap :) Pricing is average, you're going to spend about $20-$25 for a solid meal here and they don't skimp so it's worth it. Ingredients are also a cut above so that's nice. As for ambiance, it's not the prettiest spot, but the seating is comfortable and they always have a table available. They could benefit from a proper central air heating/cooling system and the floors should probably be changed at some point, but they do decent job keeping the place generally clean though. This one is an easy 5/5 when it comes to the food!

Had the Gyro Plate, Beef Kabab Plate, and Falafel. My friend had the Cheeseburger…read more Gyro came with sliced of well seasoned gyro, pita bread, hummus, small salad and basmati rice. The gyro meat was soft and tasty but on the salty side. The Hummus was good especially topped with the chili sauce and pita. Chili sauce tasted like chili and salsa mixed together; added a little spice and slight sweetness. Pita was soft, fluffy inside and toasty grilled outside. The salad has a vinaigrette dressing which had sweet citrus flavor; complemented the other items on the plate. The Basmati rice was yummy, with butter flavor. The Falafel was soft almost fluffy inside vs dense. The outer fried layer had a nutty taste with cumin with slight spicy flavor. The Beek Kabab was ok. A bit tough but good seasoning. Also a bit expensive for $21 with only about 5 pieces of beef chunks. The Cheeseburger was ok. They had the self serve water cooler by the window so it doesn't really stay cold because it's directly hit by the sun. Good place to get food to go. You order using the kiosk tablet. They brought the food pretty quickly.

The chicken kabob had herby, smoky seasoning with no real heat, and the chicken was actually tender instead of the dry rubber you usually get. The rice leans sweeter than you'd expect and it works. Bread comes with the plate, puffy and soft, not pita, not naan, it is it's own category. Ask for the mint sauce on the side, it adds freshness and a little kick to the chicken and rice. Staff was friendly and offered good suggestion to the menu. Price was reasonable.

Indeed it was one of the best Middle Eastern food I've had in the bay area. Whoever's in the kitchen knows how to make kebab right. Kudos to them! My salmon kebab was scrumptious. The charcoal-grilled exterior and moist interior proved it was done right. The only complaint was plate didn't come with salad. Service however was problematic. They never checked on us. It was not respectful enough to women which reflected their gender-inequality $@#tty culture. The male staff served water to me the last while my son and I were sitting next to each other waiting for our guests. This staff served water to him first, then poured to the rest of the empty glasses in counter-clockwise until he got to me. You always serve ladies first. I unusually didn't say "thank you." for him to catch my displeasure and couldn't help have "misogynist-jack@#$" loom over my head. He probably sensed my irritating vibe, so in the next round of encounter, he had me order the food first, intentionally. Remember my boy, be a real man, chivalry is not dead, ladies first. I value my worth more than your food. Won't return.
