If you're looking for something fancy, and if you're going to be a food snob about 'authentic' Chinese food, then this place probably isn't for you. However, if you're looking for good fill-me-up American-ish Chinese food that's fast, cheap and with friendly service, then this is it! The same husband/wife couple has been running this place for over 15 years, and they've got the consistency down and have built a loyal repeat customer base. Some of their stand-out dishes are the honey walnut prawns and mushu pork, though the classic sweet and sour pork is also very good. The sauces they use are really delicious (I asked and they are homemade!) and the portions are great value for what you are paying. What I like most about this place is the mom/pop feel. The husband cooks and the wife is front of house/handles customer service, but you can tell they care about their customers and want them to enjoy their meal. Couple of things about this place.. - I get take out for lunch a couple times a month and the food (kung pao chicken, mongolian beef) is always very good. It comes with steamed rice, an eggroll and hot and sour soup. -They have an awesome fishtank as your enter the place with a flowerhorn cichlid that's very friendly/playful. -The lady at the counter is always incredibly professional and easy to talk to. I order here every week . I love the won ton soup , it is simple but I love it . I get egg rolls too . When I want to splurge I get honey walnut prawns . I like the chicken salad also . It is comfort food to me . If I am sick I want the soup , if it is cold out I want the soup . Sure over the years once in a while maybe the taste differs but it could be me too . A regular chinese place in a strip mall retail but the quality of the food, and the niceness of the owners is really nice. We had the hot and spicy soup is very nice, fresh and flavorful. My Husband and I were craving Chinese food, so we started talking places. Of course when discussing our choice was going to be a mainstream, over priced, non-authentic, and over-crowded environment. We then decided to turn to Yelp to shift our paradigm and find something that was the complete opposite, but most importantly, tasty! We found Oriental Garden Restaurant rated, 4 stars and close to our proximity, so we thought, why not? The restaurant is quaint, easy parking and very intimate dining. Approximately sits 40 people, there is a lovely lady running the show and holding down the fort (in the front) on her own. She is great at multitasking and efficient in attending to those eating in the dining room, as well as answering the phone to help those wanting take-out, as well as ringing out those picking up their take-out. Impressive. Aside from atmosphere, the food was delicious. We LOVED the sweet and sour pork, one of the best we both have ever had. Egg rolls were fresh and amazing. All veggies were fresh and tasted amazing. Hot and sour soup was divine. All in all, everything we ordered was great! The orange chicken was even flavored with fresh orange peels, tasted like natural orange not artificially flavored. Wow...Is it really that hard to get decent Chinese food in the Los Gatos area?? We came here on a Saturday night and ordered take out. The owner was very helpful and accommodating. That is where the goodness ends. The food really needs work. We ordered kung pao chicken, steamed dumplings, yellow curry chicken, steamed chicken and mixed vegetables, chicken with broccoli and sweet and sour chicken. All for the low low price of $90!!! The ironic thing is that the best tasting item was the curry chicken. Everything else was either to greasy or over coked. It doesn't look appealing from the outside; the strip mall is run down and they need to get rid of the giant banner out front. That said, the place is delicious and reasonably priced. It used to be that Chinese food to go was inexpensive and always very good. We usually do take out Chinese every few weeks to avoid cooking and it has been an expensive and not very enjoyable experience but we kept looking. Last night I was in Los Gatos and looked up Chinese restaurant in the area to do take out. Chinese Garden was further but better rated than most. I went in to make my order which was taken by a very pleasant lady and 15 minutes later it was ready. The restaurant itself was a bit older and simple. There were no diners there which concerned me. We opened up the food at home were VERY pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity of food we got. Indeed the biggest problem was that we both were sort of on diets and ate about 2x what we were planning. The Mooshu combo was really big and really tasty. It is one of the dishes I most crave when thinking Chinese food and this was one of the best. The Mongolian beef was extraordinary with very tasty fine noodles and deliciously caramelized onions. The Kung Pao chicken had nice crunch to the water chestnuts. Bottom line this was the BEST regular Chinese food I had in years and will return. There are some great places in SF but few in the South Bay, none I found that compare. read more

New to town and Chinese so looking for a new go-to place. OG missed the mark for me--outside looked a little sketch, lone fish in the tank was sad and they were out of one of the dishes we ordered. The wallpaper is worn and looks a little like an old school China-town type restaurant. I am totally good with that if the price and food reflects that. Veggie dishes were around $10/plate so meat/seafood was higher than I expected. Something was off on the price/value equation for me on the dine in. Food and portion size were just ok. Waitress was nice enough. Maybe this is a take-out fav? I usually only post positive reviews but felt like I should help others when Yelping for guidance. I don't necessarily think this is a hole in the wall gem BUT it has a few great things going for it. First of all the owner (did not catch her name) is really sweet. She came to our table many times, quick with refills, and overall a very kind woman. Although the restaurant is old and needs updating desperately; the decorations and place settings were really clean. Silverware was shiny. Even the way the table was set up with the tea cups turned over the fork let me know that cleanliness is a priority to them. Always a good thing when eating out. Also, the food is fairly affordable. We ordered a salad, 2 main dishes, and rice for $29 but came home with lots of leftovers. The chicken salad had the best fried chicken on it! I wasn't much of a fan of the dressing (too sweet) but I couldn't stop eating it since the chicken was so tasty. The other two dishes were good. What I like seeing the most is how many people there were regulars. I actually think we were the only ones who weren't. The service here is good, but the food was quite terrible. Extremely greasy eggrolls, extremely greasy sweet-and-sour chicken, overall everything was greasy except for the cashew chicken. I personally will not be going back to this restaurant again, there're much better Chinese food restaurants close by and all around the Bay Area. The Egg rolls were so greasy that when you pick them up the grease was virtually dripping off of the crust, the hot and sour soup was okay but not the best I've had. I notice it was mostly senior citizens eating in this restaurant so maybe that's why the reviews are good. Surprisingly solid, authentic Chinese food given the ambience and decor, especially given the overall quality of food in Campbell -- yes, yes the Pruneyard is good, but it's 2 restaurants. Classic American dishes like Chow Fun were surprising well done. Classic Chinese dishes like Ma Po Tofu were very good. Not the best, but will certainly satisfy most cravings. Yummy food with great prices! I frequent this place almost every Tuesday for lunch with my coworkers since it's down the street from our office. They have great lunch specials that average about $7-$9 that include soup/salad & eggroll, white or fried rice and main dish. You can never go wrong with their beef and broccoli or honey walnut prawns. It usually comes out to be $15-$17 for two people, leaving us extremely stuffed each time. Service is great every time I've ever been here. Seems like a lot of people are regulars because the nice lady that takes our order seems to know what everyone's usual orders are. Veggies were fine, as were the wonton but it was lacking meat. Also ordered the orange chicken and it wasn't spicy or crispy. Felt like I was eating fried batter mostly. However, their chow mein and shrimp and broccoli are both good. Both had a good amount of meat, noodles had the right chew and the broccoli had that prefect bite. Oh and the hot and sour soup was pretty tasty to. (Comes with entree and veggie egg roll) Place is small and service can be a tad slow. But the server is nice just hangs out in the back to much. Best Chinese food in the area. My dad was craving Chinese take out and I yelped and found this place. We ordered on the phone and the lady said it would be ready in 20 minutes. We ran about 10 minutes late Anne our food was waiting for us. For the amount of food we ordered, it wasn't that expensive, and the food was very got and fresh. The worst thing about Chinese is that it can be greasy. This food was not at all greasy.... Maybe just the egg rolls but that's expected. My favorite was the chicken chow mien, the noodles are really thick and it was delish! My second favorite was the fried rice, again it wasn't at all greasy and you can tell that it was homemade with fresh ingredients. Everyone was polite and nice. I love Szechuan beef. I prefer it crispy. They served me soggy and sad Szechuan beef.The lemon chicken was superb. Crispy with a very Tangy lemon sauce. But again the sweet and sour shrimp fell flat.
