We got there at opening and the tables and chairs were still pushed to the wall. That's a good thing-- it means they pay attention to cleanliness! The luncheon buffet was all set up, but we were gonna order off the menu. I ordered shrimp egg fo Yung and my husband chose a luncheon special. While there is no table service,nor did I expect it, they brought out our order to our table. The egg foo Yung was a plentiful serving and there were whole shrimp in it too. The sauce was tasty as well. My husband's lunch looked pretty unremarkable-- a large side of fried rice and , what was remarkable, was a serving of neon yellow egg drop soup! Very good Chinese food in the Upper Valley. I have been going here for 10+ years, and the staff have been very consistent over that time. The restaurant has changed and remodeled a bit, but it's been very reliable. I have gotten a number of dishes from Oriental Wok Express -- usually the ones that are from the menu, rather than the prepared stuff. The dishes are made to order, which is great. My favorites are the chow he fun with shrimp, chow mei fun with shrimp, and the Singapore noodles. Lately, I've had some experiences where the food hasn't been quite as good, but overall I really love this place, and will continue to come back. I would definitely recommend Oriental Wok Express for Chinese food if you're in the area. read more

Eating at a gas station to me is like walking into a Walmart. I don't. Well, I didn't, at least in the gas station variety, until yesterday. But someone in Hanover gave me a recommendation as some of the best food in the Upper Valley and, what the heck, gave it a try. I was impressed. About one of the best three Chinese takeout food I've had in New England. Their menu is connected to the Beyond Menu app so it was easy to choose and pay online and just stop by, pick up the food and drive home. All the better because it was in the middle of a snow storm so the wait time had to be minimized... My order included the vegetarian egg roll, which was very good. We also ordered fried dumplings and these were about the best we've had outside NYC. The dumplings, gyoza or pot-stickers as they are commonly called, were the smaller, thinner, crispier, and tastier variety, different from the gooey, thick and slimy fried dumplings so common in this area. Our next plate was the Roaster Pork Lo Mein, very tasty and with lots of meat. And the Beef and Broccoli was the last selection. This one was delicious. Next time after this successful visit, we'll become more adventurous and do some of their Szechuan selections to get a good tastebud kick. Our order was ready when promised, and the area in the gas station building that comprised Oriental Wok was like a plane trip to Asia. For good takeout food, one of the best places. read more

First (and last) time visitor to this Chinese food restaurant inside a gas station. I've actually had some really good food from gas stations but not this time. You can only order online through BeyondMenu and some of the prices are higher once you go to pick up your order. One of the items I ordered was not available yet they still charged me for it. When I pointed out they over-charged me, The woman who charged me kept insisting it was because of my order and didn't seem to understand that she was still charging me for the item that was unavailable. It took me several minutes of calculating the amount on my phone to show her that she overcharged me by almost 6 dollars. She begrudgingly handed me three dollars in cash from the register while raising her voice and I accepted it because it was too stressful to communicate with her. The worst part though was the food! I ordered. Everything I got from them literally went in the trash. The dumplings in particular were disgusting. They looked great and they were the biggest dumplings I have a literally ever seen but when you cut into them the dough was so thick it was like eating a double stack of ravioli- and the meat inside looked like a piece of old dog poop and had absolutely no flavor whatsoever. So gross! I have had some really bad Chinese food in my life but Oriental Wok Express takes the crown!! read more

This place is amazing. You may know it as "gas station Chinese" the lingua franca.-- no matter what you call it, it is truly amazing. The buffet is fresh and delicious and the custom dishes are incredible. Don't forget to try the sushi as well. The family who owns this place is so hard-working and wonderful. Definitely worth it and you can't beat the price. we have catered parties with the food and people are absolutely blown away. In fact, everyone was rushing to take the leftovers home to their families. Singapore rice noodle is one of my favorite dishes. Here is the best I've ever had. Welp I guess I should have yelped before ordering. There's nothing around my hotel besides bbq so I went for it and ordered online. Yes it's in a gas station with no signage. I arrived at 7:30 and the staff was sitting around on their phones in the few booths inside with food left out. I approached the counter and my food was ready for me... obviously, because there's a glass display with the food sitting there like the food court in the mall. Gave 3 stars for the general chicken- seemed like that and the broccoli was the only thing not sitting around. Check the pics of the beef teriyaki. Inedible and gross! I gave them the benefit of the doubt the first few times that it was just an off night, and a few times I've ordered out of laziness, but I've ordered my last meal here. I don't think they used at salt, soy sauce, or oyster sauce. Being from New York where Chinese food is all over and always great it has been a tough time since moving to Vermont to find quality authentic Chinese food. Don't be alarmed by the gas station presence but this is phenomenal. The generals chicken is juicy and crispy could use a bit more spice but overall I am so satisfied. I read on a local blog. This was the best take out in the area. The person who posted that has never had good food from China Town in Boston or New York. Every item was mis labeled or represented to be what it's not. Gummy dumpling over cooked beef terriaki sticks. Dry fried rice with no pork. Peking duck that has no resemblance to real Peking Duck. The worst shrimp and lobster sauce. This dish was half shrimp half pollack fish with a sauce like water. In addition this mess of a meal was 50 dollars. Keep away from this place like the plague. Best affordable Chinese food delivery for a graduate student like me. Two dishes + 1 appetizer under $30. I strongly recommend their beef Mi Fen and dumplings. This is the best Chinese food in the area. To my knowledge it is the only authentic Chinese food in the area. The family who runs it is from Fujian. There is a menu with a mix of westernized dishes and authentic Chinese dishes, as well as a specials board written in both English and Chinese. I can't speak for the quality of the westernized dishes (why order these? what is the point?), but the Chinese style dishes are good indeed. The area surrounding Dartmouth is distinctly lacking in the Asian food arena. Apart from the mostly mediocre Orient, there is little to be said about Chinese food in the Upper Valley. This restaurant is a hidden gem, and when I say hidden, I mean it literally. The kitchen and seating area is on the side of a gas station convenience store, so you ean pretty authentic Fujianese food surrounded by Monsters, corn nuts and Slim Jims. Not a place to go for a first date, to say the least. The food more than makes up for it however. Ask for the handwritten menu they have at the register. I never get the food that's being heated Panda Express style behind the window. Wait a little longer and have the cooks whip up something fresh. When I go with my Fujianese friend, he asks for them to make a pork dish with pink sauce and bamboo shoots that is bomb. It's not on the menu though, but he says it's a pretty typical Fujian dish. The squid with green pepper and the tripe are also awesome. Most dishes come with a plate of rice and they have free tea in a dispenser near the heated food. Compared to other restaurants in civilized cities (aka not west leb) I'm sure the food could still hold it's own. So in the wasteland of Asian food surrounding Dartmouth, this definitely stands out as an authentic oasis regardless of the fact that it's in a gas station. First, I'm going to say this: I didn't even know this place had its own name until they indicated that I should take a magnet home with me to go with my order. Second, the name that Dartmouth students call this place, "Gas Station [Chinese]," is appropriately descriptive, and tells you exactly what to expect: Chinese food served out of a gas station. This certainly isn't the most glamorous place to pick up food, but sure is (a) convenient, as long as you're already in the area, and (b) the most authentic Chinese food you'll find in the Hanover area. The steam buns are my most recommended item on their menu. They're clearly homemade (a huge plus in my book, as not even all sit-down Chinese restaurants make their steam buns from scratch these days), and generously filled. I also recommend their authentic Chinese food items, which you can order off the menu to be made on the spot -- the pre-made dishes sitting in the counter display pale in comparison to a la carte here. P.S. Slightly less known fact: they deliver! Grab a magnet so you'll have their phone number for delivery, if you ever want to take advantage of it. read more

It's hard to find this place since it literally is in the gas station... which is why we affectionately just call it Gas Station. They have a solid menu with a lot of basic Chinese dishes, though if you speak to them in Chinese, they'll basically cook whatever you ask for. Is the place glamorous? Well no, it's literally appended to a gas station convenience store, but the food is definitely legit and as close to home-cooking that any Chinese kid is going to get in this area. great food. Been going there since they opened. The BEST chinese in the Upper Valley for sure. However, when a huge mistake was made on my $75.00 order, I called and the staff said I so sorry and that was it. I called the owner and he said he would credit me the next time. I guess the girl who works there was offended because she called me at home and in an angry voice argued with me about me calling her boss and her being in trouble. Another gas station Chinese food restaurant that is really very good. How deceiving. NOT good Chinese food! We went here based on the other reviews expecting some decent food and it was really icky. I grew up in the area but do not live there now- just visiting for the summer. Maybe I've lived too many places with good food, but there are several Chinese restaurants up in the Burlington/Essex Junction area that ARE exceptional and cravable. This place has rice with peas and carrots in it and no flavor- similar to the bad food court mall food to be found all across america. The Crab Ragoons did have a nice flavor on the filling, but the Ragoons themselves were very greasy and soggy. The sweet and sour chicken had a soggy batter surrounding small pieces of chicken as well. The egg rolls were OK. Not the best and not the worst I've ever had. All in all, it is exactly what you would expect from a place inside a gas station. There used to be 2 Chinese restaurants in W. Leb and both were great- China Lite and Dragon something......both are gone now, but I still expected that there would be good Chinese in the area. A big disappointment. This is a hidden gem of a restaurant! Ok, calling it a restaurant is a bit of a stretch. I'm the first to admit that gas station Chinese food isn't my first go to place but this was well worth the try. I was directed to the "Authentic Asian Dishes" menu when I picked up their standard menu. I ordered the Beef Chow He Fun and the Black Pepper Squid. I then saw one of the girls go in the back room and come back with some vegetable that my mom used to fix when I was young. I asked the girl what dish that vegetable was in and she said it was an off menu dish. She asked me if I wanted some and I said yes. It was prepared exactly a my mom had made it! Though the setting is a little off putting (it's literally in a gas station), the food is authentic and cheap. They have large menu that you can order from or you can get ready made foods. If you have a dish in mind that's not on the menu, you can also request it! I will say, however, that they tend to overdo it on the sauce, but it is still delicious nevertheless. Both came out awful. The tomatoes were undercooked in the first dish, and the tofu was bland and one-dimensional. I realize there's not a lot of choice in the area when it comes to good Chinese cuisine, but contrary to what other reviewers have said, this place is no hidden gem. I'm giving this place 4.5 stars. We went there for lunch. We ordered three lunch special sets, crab rangoon, mushu and lo mein, all for less than $40. Pork spare ribs were good. My husband loves his mushu. It was a ton of food. The sesame chicken had a little much sauce on it but I normally don't like too much sauce. The wrappers for crab Rangoon were a little too thick for my liking but my husband didn't mind. Egg drop soup didn't have a lot of flavor. I recommend going for wonton soup for lunch special. My husband was skeptical about a Chinese restaurant at a gas station but he changed his mind after today. All in all, we had a great experience here and we will become a regular. read more

This restaurant is in a gas station, and I should have followed my instincts and not ordered takeout because it was probably the worst Chinese food I've ever had! I'm an egg drop soup lover and have tried it all over the country and there egg drop soup was bland and tasteless. The crispy wontons they served with the soup were tasteless strips. The vegetable lo mein was noodleless, and although the vegetables were crisp, it had very little taste. Even the fortune cookies were cheap and tasteless. Go elsewhere! read more
