We wanted to have a light lunch yesterday and have passed by Origin a number of times before and finally looked at the menu. This is a restaurant that features a Thai-French fusion cuisine that is very well executed. This is a small, family run business that provides a gracious customer service experience. There are two floors, try to dine upstairs. We enjoyed the Taro Dumplings with Shrimp, and the Red and Green Thai curries for lunch. The Green curry was ordered with shrimp, and I was impressed at the generous amount of medium sized shrimp in the meal. Both curry sauces were well balanced in terms of sweet, sour, hot, and salt. If your in the area and your looking for a decent Thai meal this is the place for you. The food is good but still does not compare to one of favorites. I've definitely had better Thai cuisine in the area so I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here but it's perfect if your in the area. The interior has a warm and inviting atmosphere. The upstairs did seem a bit crammed but not too badly where it would become an issue. There is a lower level which is more spacious so request a seat downstairs if you can. To be honest, you cannot beat the location of this restaurant. Origin is just steps away form the green in Morristown which is a great area to eat if you are looking to grab drinks afterward. I had dinner at my bachelorette party here and it was really good! As you may see from my prior entries, I love Thai so this place impressed me. The decor was trendy/modern and it's a BYO (and we brought vodka because that's the type of night it was going to be) and the food was AMAZING. The two cuisines are intricately inventive together and I more then enjoy Thai which was mainly prevalent in the menu. There were a lot of choices. The service was great and everyone got what they wanted and more. I was amazed at my appetizer because it was still in shells, snail shells (normally snails are not at other places) but I like stuff like that. I have mixed feeling about this place. The first time I went here, I thoroughly enjoyed it - both the food and service. The second and third time I came were awful. The food was sub par and the service was awful. I'm not the type of person who takes too long to order, is a pain about the menu, makes ridiculous requests, or eats too slowly, so it was puzzling that I was made to feel rushed to order, finish eating, and pay by our seemingly impatient servers. I understand that weekend evenings are busy, but I am a good customer who tips generously. I will now never return to this restaurant. I dont know why I keep coming back here... but I think the last time I was here was my last! I always feel like the servers are trying to rush you out (restaurant isnt full either!). Also, the last time I was there was for a birthday party and one of my friends brought cupcakes for the birthday girl. Our server refused to let us take out the cupcakes..About 10 minutes later I guess the server felt bad b/c she let us put a candle on one cupcake but told us we could not eat them in the restaurant. I've never had this problem before in a restaurant but I suppose maybe we should have called and asked in advance. Pretty good food and service all around and it's byob! We had a large group and shared spring rolls, bbq ribs, curry puffs, and mussels; each equally tasty. For dinner I had the red curry with shrimp which was quite nice; a nice blend of savory and spicy. It landed on my top Thai curry's in NJ list! I loved this Thai Place. It is BYOB. Went with the ladies from work. We can be so annoying takes us like 30 mins to even decide what we want. We just go right into chatting. After reading several positive reviews about this restaurant, I ventured in one night for dinner and was very disappointed. While the atmosphere was new and trendy--the restaiurant did not appear to be clean. The noise level was high. My guest and I were escorted to a table downstairs. The atmosphere there was ok for a basement space, however, the energy seemed very different from the main level. The hot food was never hot, barely warm. The service was the most disappointing aspect of all. There was no good reason to rush eevry course of food, but, that's what happened. Beyond that it was an unfriendly experience. Really, if you are a diner that enjoys a warm, inviting and authentic restaurant experience and you're looking for good Thai food--take a bottle of wine and head to the cozy Sirin Restaurant on Pine Street. Great Thai food. Me and my friend went for the prix fixed menu (well worth the 37 bucks p.p.). It included a tasty trio of duck salad, and 2 more samples of the a la carte menu. That was a great start. Then I chose the rack of lamb as my main course, which was fantastic, and my friend had the wild boar, which she enjoyed a lot as well. The finishing touch was our desert: chocolate cake with 'to die for' pistachio ice cream. We brought our own bottles along, which is no biggie at all with the wine store in South street that's open in the eve. So all in all, 2 girls that are spoilt with NYC restaurants normally were very pleased with wonderful food and a great ambiance and friendly staff. No wonder it was crowded there on a Wednesday night. A great place to go on a date, or just because you feel like going to a good restaurant. Dined here several times. In my humble opinion its one of the best restaurants in Morristown. Reservations recommended for the weekend. Service varies from prompt to lethargic. The upstairs level is a bit busier, the lower level is a bit more intimate. BYOB. Decor is tasteful, modern-esque. The main courses themselves are well plated and tasty, quite fresh-tasting. I'm a big fan of ginger, and the dishes I order have a very pleasant, fresh, slightly hot gingery taste. Green papaya salad was great! Very large portion so the higher price made sense. Had the Massaman Curry and Pad Thai, both with chicken. Both dishes were very good. Not the best I've ever had but probably among the top. I would go again. Went in early on a Friday evening and was seated immediately despite the lack of reservation. The staff was friendly and we were served by more than one waitress at a time during the meal. We ordered the escargot and the foie gras for appetizers and each was cooked and served to perfection. The main courses were wild boar that when asked was cooked to a tender medium rare and the Sea Bass special that was crispy on the outside and melt in your mouth tender on the inside. Well, actually 4.5 stars but they don't let you chose that! I thought the food was excellent. The only thing that kept me from giving it 5 stars was the shrimp in my Pad Thai was chewy and way overcooked. The seared tuna appetizer was amazing. This is the absolute LAST TIME I WILL EVER GO TO THIS RESTAURANT! We had a 7:00 reservation which the rude hostess could not locate and refused to seat us because the restaurant "was overbooked this evening ". The restaurant on both levels had a few tables taken, and at 7:00, was obviously virtually empty. We were finally begrudgingly given a table downstairs, ignored by our server, and I had to get up and locate somebody to give us an ice bucket for our wine. An HOUR later, somebody came to take our order, was rude and curt, and was difficult to communicate with. When our food FINALLY came, although the restaurant was less than half full on a Saturday night, nobody ever came to our table to ask if everything was satisfactory. Mediocre, overpriced food, rude hostess, rude server. After 15 years of trying to give this place a shot, I'm done. And so should everyone else be. This was a good restaurant years ago but has fallen so far off the grid. And again, the restaurant on a Saturday night at prime time was less than half full. So I guess we aren't the only people that feel this way. Good bye, Origins. Your food is mediocre, your prices are unrealistic, and frankly, your entire staff stinks.... and the ladies room was filthy to boot. read more

Tried Origin for the first time today, the food was really good! Menu wasn't that big. Two of us got curries, green and a tamarind based one. Large curry portions, but TINY bowls of rice!! It barely made sense... We each asked for another bowl of rice, which honestly still wasn't enough, AND they charged $4 for it! On the other hand, one person in our party ordered the Pad Kee Maow and man oh man was that DELICIOUS. I would definitely try Origin again, just to order that dish. Also not really sure about the whole French twist on the Thai food. But overall good food, decent service (was a tad slow) and nice ambience. Recently had a large family gathering in Origin Thai and every one of us walked away extremely happy. Between the 6 of us, we tried a little bit of everything on the menu - everything was brought out at the same time and of proper temp, super fresh and absolutely delicious. We especially loved the French onion soup, grilled squid salad, and Royal Massaman Curry. They also had some nice fish specials which were spot on. Definitely leave room for dessert - the Chocolate Cake Soufflé was phenomenal and they had a nice assortment of sorbets which finished the meal nicely. The Blood Orange was my fave. Prices are on par with quality of food and ambiance. It's upscale Thai and the BYOB option is welcome. Staff was super friendly and very attentive. We can't wait to come back! read more

Had dinner and appetizers here with friends prior to show at MPAC. We shared the chicken sate, mussels, and soft shell crab appetizers which were delicious. My friend and I had the shrimp special which was served with just the right amount of shrimp and vegetables to satisfy us. The guys had the Muscovy Duck Breast made with Grande Mariner and the Boar Tenderloin. They couldn't stop raving about how well it was prepared and ate every morsel. It was great to be able to bring our own alcoholic beverages. The food was delicious but the staff wasn't as attentive as I would have liked. But I'd go back in a heartbeat. read more

Great place for lunch! The ambiance is great for dinner too, but dinner prices are just too high for me. I really enjoy the curries here- I've had the green curry and massaman curry and they are both flavorful and delicious and do not feel really heavy. My husband really enjoys the duck dishes here. I am not a fan of duck because at every other restaurant I've had duck at, it has the taste of "chinese five spice" and is just too fatty... this is not the case here. The duck actually seems lean and is cooked wonderfully and the flavor of each duck dish is unique. Most recently, my husband got the duck curry lunch special- it was a beautiful dish and tasted as good as it looked. He chowed down so I didn't have the opportunity to take a pic. In the past, I have tried the duck burger which was tasty- it had an interesting flavor and texture. The duck dishes are the best quality and flavor you can find and during lunch is a really reasonable price. I really enjoy Origins but dinner prices make it really not practical for me to eat it as much as I would like. read more

Back again last night for the third or fourth time and I am still in shock. I'm hoping they were having an off night since the food didn't compare to my other visits here. My boyfriend wasn't thrilled with his dinner either, which is very rare for him to complain about a meal. Our waitress was also relatively unpleasant and unfriendly. I'm not really sure if we'll be back again, but if we decide to give it another shot it will most likely not be for awhile or at the Bernardsville location instead. Heartbreaking! read more

OK - if I was rating this place strictly on the food, then I would give it 5 stars without question. I think Origin has the best thai food in the area. I usually go with at least 1 app, but they can be a bit tricky because they can be super tiny in portion size. The spring rolls are very good and they usually have some pretty good specials, too. I usually go with the Pad See Euw (spelling?) and it is easily one of my favorite meals. I usally get a either a combination of chicken and shrimp or chicken and beef with the noodles. They also have some very good pad thai. This is why I give the place 4 stars. First, the place is a little expensive for thai food. The place is real nice looking inside so I give the price a pass because it is a nice dining experience. The servers could definitely be more friendly. Also, this drives me nuts. You can walk in and there may only be 1-2 tables occupied in the restaurant, and they insist on trying to sit you right next to those people. Give me a break - I always ask to be seated somewhere else. All in all - the food is great but I have to deduct a star for some of the other stuff. read more

I have been to this restaurant in Somerville, I believe they are the same owner. I didn't realize how big the place was. I didn't know they had a downstairs. We got the appetizer or tuna wasabi pizza. It was better than I thought. There was no wasabi though. There was a cream cheese like sauce on the side that I was not fond of. We also ordered a side salad that was big enough for the three of us, very good. I had the royal massaman. Not sure of the spelling. It has avocado, shrimp, peanuts, sweet potato in an orange sauce. It is always very good when I have it. We finished with the sticky mango rice which was ok, the mango tasted delicious.
