This place has gone downhill. I used to come here pretty often, but I just can't do it anymore. The food has gone downhill, the prices have become outrageous, and they just don't give a damn about their customers. I used to love their eggs benedict and their pancakes. The last three times, there's been some sort of issue. Once, the poached eggs on the benedict were just short of hard boiled. I told my server who got me a fresh order. I'm not sure, but I think they just took off the eggs and put on new ones because the muffin was cold, the canadian bacon was cold, and the hollandaise on the plate was beginning to congeal even though the hollandaise on top was hot. Another time, the pancakes were just loaded with vanilla extract. While a little extra vanilla is what gives them their signature flavor, these were disgusting. I sent them back and the next batch was just as bad. Another time, I ordered a side of bacon that was horribly undercooked. When I told my server, she remarked, "Well, you didn't tell me you wanted it crispy!" No, I don't care if it's crispy or not, but I'd like it to be cooked enough to be edible. (Bits of the fat were still a bright white. I mean, come on!) Then, each time, while paying, I was asked how everything was by the cashier. When telling her about problems, she avoided eye contact and gave nothing more than "Oh, I'm sorry" as a response. Next, let's get to the price. A friend of mine was in town and wanted to go to the Original Pancake House because it was his favorite breakfast restaurant when he lived in the area. This was the time where the pancakes were drenched in Vanilla extract. I also brought my daughter along on this visit and our bill for 2 adults and one child was $37. We didn't get anything too extravagant either (benedict, a skillet, a combo, a side order of bacon, a large orange juice, and 2 coffees if I recall correctly). The next day, we went to the pancake house just a few blocks west (the blue one next to Marquette Bank). Just for fun, we ordered the exact same meals and it was $26. On top of that, we got a coupon for $2 off the bill on our next visit. The quality of the food was better, the service was better, and the concern for customer satisfaction was better. Save your money and your tastebuds. Pass this place up and head down the road a piece where your money will go further and your food will be better. read more

Nothing fancy or extraordinary. Just plain old American fare. Location is too small to handle the volume of activity and turnover is not quick enough. They seem to be overwhelmed at times, even though they try to keep up. Need more servers on breakfast shift along with a larger location. Not a diary allergy friendly restaurant. My son can only have the fresh fruit at this restaurant. The egg Benedict was over cook as well as the hash brown :/. Although the the orange juice was good and have pulps in it, my glass of orange juice appears to be smaller than other customers. read more

This was our first time eating breakfast at this particular restaurant chain. Initially, I would like to say that our waitress was phenomenal. Having said that, I will never return to this place again. I can't remember ever eating at a breakfast oriented Restaraunt that serves hash browns a la carte with your eggs. Yes, they charge you extra for hash browns! Additionally the prices are steep. We paid $40 for two individuals who ate eggs, hashbrowns and sausage and one side of ham. That is ridiculous. The food was mediocre at best. Next time I'll go right down the street to any of the other fabulous breakfast places in Tinley Park and Orland Park who charge 40%-50% less for superior food. I truly feel sorry for our waitress who depends on return business to make a living. She was a peach. Now I know why the place was so empty. They whip the eggs in a blending machine and then cook them in a convection oven and they are absolutely the best egg dish ever created for breakfast. And then...matching their omlet for the best egg dish in the country, they have added a new item to their menu which is the best hash brown dish in the country: their habenero cheese hash browns!! The food was pretty good but a little on the high end. I got an omelet and requested no onion in the hashbrowns that come with it. Our server said I couldn't customize the hashbrowns that come with the omelet and that if I wanted hashbrowns with no onion I would need to purchase a side of hashbrowns for $3. Very good food and good service. I have been here several times and I like that this place is very consistent. They are always busy on the weekends so be prepared to wait. Their seasonal treats are great...the pumpkin pancakes and pumpkin waffles were fabulous in the fall. Eggs are always cooked perfectly to order. Bacon is thick cut and delicious. Just left here! My husband and I are MAJOR pancake house fans, and we frequent here maybe once a month or so. However, this visit was the best visit I have ever had in the last couple of years we've been going! We had two skillets, and bacon chocolate chip pancakes and they were melt in your mouth DELICIOUS! But forget the food, Julie was AMAZING! Best customer service experience I've had in the last few years. She was attentive but not overbearing, her attitude at 7a on a Sunday was so heartwarming and joyous. Definitely put me in a great mood for the rest of the day, I'm sure of it. got to be careful on what you order. some people don't believe in cross-contamination or don't know or care. Family of four, including myself, decided on the Oak Forest location to dine for breakfast on Tuesday, 11/22, instead of going to another place we frequently visited. Very good choice we made. From the greeter who was enjoyable to chat with, to Megan who was an absolute joy as our sever, to the quick turn around on our food to the icing on the cake....the food was absolutely fantastic! Every one of us simply enjoyed our overall visit here. Everyone was satisfied with the dining experience to the human interactions. A return visit will indeed happen. Keep it up OPH! read more

It's a shame i can't give negative stars because that's what this place deserves.!!!!! I ordered the Canadian bacon and eggs and all I got were uncooked eggs and 3 pieces of bacon in an over sized container. I was expecting everything scrambled with atleast veggies I even asked the guy who answer and he said yes. But I guess they can't get an order right. And when I told the guy I wanted my money back he was that they don't give out refunds even though I told him I was never going back. He said he can give me credit but why would I need a f****g credit when I'm never going back. It really makes no sense..... Worst place I have ever been. This place isn't much to look. However, the food here is amazing! IF you come on the weekend, expect to wait a while...there's always a line! You have to try the 49er's and the apple pancake (not on the same visit). The biscuits & gravy are about the best around. Skip the mushroom sauce on your omelet (or try it on the side first). How can you rate a scrambled egg? But theirs are the best. You MUST try a side of the best bacon, as well!!! read more

Today I went to the pancake house. I felt very welcomed the coffee was amazing and so was that Dutch garden. Delish!!!! I had the same server as the post before me from Sarah and I honestly don't understand what they are talking about. He was pleasant and had a wonderful sense of humor. My order was all correct . It was exactly what I asked for and didn't expect anything else. If something was supposed to be there then you ask for it and they always give it to you right away apologetic and sincere. My family and I have been going there for years and have always enjoyed the breakfast there. However the bacon seemed to be a little different and wasn't as tasty like it has been in the past. When we were paying the young ladies in the front asked how was everything and we stated that it was ok but we had better. Instead of asking your repeat customers about what happened or why lack of satisfaction during this visit they said "Oh well it happens!" I'm a consultant that train and talk about the importance of good customer service to fortune 500 companies. The one star rating is all about client service. Let's start off by saying that I am a longtime fan of Original Pancake House. My hubby and I have been consistently patronizing several of their other locations in the city of Chicago (since the early 90's). While attempting to order food over the phone on my way to the airport, I called this location (Oak Forest) instead of the location that was closest to Oak Park (the delightful people at Forest Park). Upon realizing my error - I called the Oak Forest location to apologize, explain my error (I am not a suburban girl) and cancel my order. The manger comes to the phone and nastily states that I won't be able to order from that location again since the food was made. I shared how I am a loyal client, and I just made a human error, but she didn't care. So, if you are that inflexible and robotic with a long time client, it calls into question how much your business is valued. I won't spend money with an entity that turns on their clients. read more
