Just went to to experience Tommy's for the first time in my life. I had the chill cheese hot dog combo, and I was surprised. The place was clean. And they were understaffed, overwhelmed and busy, it was lunchtime. The food quality was mediocre, but not horrible. And the customer service was less than stellar. No service with a smile, and we waited a good 5 minutes before we were helped. The drive thru was jammed. So, I completely understand why the holdup. Their restrooms were located outside, and you needed a key from a staff member. My overall experience was just ok. Will I ever go to a Tommy's again? Maybe, but at another location, not this one in Lake Forest. read more

I've been to this location a few times and this last time I went through the drive thru, as I usually eat inside. I ordered my food and drove up to the window. They looked pretty busy as she didn't come to the window for a few minutes. When she opened the window she was very pleasant and didn't show that she may have been short staffed or what not but the food was hot and ready. Totally hit the spot! Been looking forward to coming to Tommy's for a chili cheese dog and was so disappointed that I don't think I'll come back! I was going to place a large order for super bowl. I walked in after having been on a long motorcycle ride. Asked the person where the bathroom was. He said the bathroom was for paying customers only so I could use it after I place an order. What are you? A welfare service? You treat customers like this? Although I like the food at Tommy's, I am not planning on returning after the terrible treatment I received today. I went into the store and walked directly to the counter since there was no wait. However, when I arrived the three employees behind the counter ignored me. I waited a bit, and then decided to TIME how long it took them to acknowledge me. During this time I was in clear view of these employees, but I didn't even get so much as an acknowledgment. After five minutes, I said something to the woman closest to me, asking if I could place my order. She pointed to a man whose back was to me and said he would be right with me. Of course I replied that I'd been waiting a while and asked how long it would be. She ignored the question and walked away. After waiting another moment or two, I walked out... their terrible service has soured me to dining here! read more

I am, and always will be, the biggest fan of Tommy's! When I was first dating my husband Tom, he introduced me to the indescribably delicious Tommy's chili cheeseburgers and I have loved them ever since. The chili is so rich and deeply flavored, I swear they never wash the pot, just keep adding ingredients. Every Tommy's I've been to has always been so satisfyingly bad for me, a decadent naughty secret....that I share publicly on Yelp, of course. This particular location, I've experienced very good customer service and extra care in assembling the burgers. The chili cheese fries come in boxes here instead of the traditional yellow paper wrap. I guess I do miss scraping off the extra cheese and chili from the paper, but the boxes do have a certain charm about them. From Orange County to Lake Forest, still the same great chili. I would love it if they opened a Tommy's in Oceanside but I'll have to settle for picking it up To Go on my way home for now! read more

You'd probably never see this Tommy's if you were driving along El Toro Road; it's right next to the freeway and off the main street at the entrance of a hidden strip mall. Knowing how messy these burgers can be we went inside this small location (rather than the drive-thru) so I could order a cheeseburger and fries. In case you don't know, your burger is going to be smothered in chili. Amazing deliciously messy chili. In no time my burger was ready. It was as wonderful as my first Tommy burger 40 years ago, eaten in the middle of the night during a college study break at the original downtown location. They've been a guilty pleasure ever since. Their fries are pretty darn good too! I just got the regular fries this time but the chili cheese fries are one of the fast food wonders of the world. Restrooms are outside and require a key from the counter. They have a hand sanitizer on the wall near the soft drink dispenser so you can avoid trekking outside if you just want to clean your hands up a bit before getting them covered in chili. read more

So I was browsing Grubhub for lunch and saw Tommys which brought back childhood memories of the Rampart LA spot I used to frequent back in the day. I haven't been to Tommy's in a long time and not at this location at all so was hoping it would be as good as I remembered. I opted to pick up instead and ordered the double cheeseburger with fries and I am happy to say it did not disappoint. Burger was juicy, buns were fresh, chili cheese perfectly balanced. Fries were large cut, crisp outside and tender inside. So good. Opposite of In-n-Out skinny hard fries. Service friendly. So when my husband and I noticed this location while looking for patio furniture in the same shopping center, we had to stop by here to grab some burgers to-go. My son had never eaten here before so we got him a regular burger. My husband, on the other hand, went straight for the double chili burger. It was his favorite when he was younger. My son and I both thought our burgers were great. My husband's burger was a bit squished when we got home, but he still thought it was really good. The fries could have been a bit crispier, but everything else was as good as I remembered. We went through the drive-thru, and the service was quick and friendly. We also asked for additional pickles, and they weren't skimpy with the extra ingredients we asked for. This is still a great spot for a good burger!
