Nice small place with great sushi. The rolls weren't perfect. I had about 3 rolls that fell apart on me but then again im not an expert with chopsticks. Service is ok. I did get a complimentary soup, salad, green tea and green tea ice cream.....or do they all come with rolls? Anyways that was great. Our family cannot get enough of this place! My husband refused to eat sushi, but loves the sushi here. It is fresh and extraordinary. My daughter also is a picky eater but loves the soup and the gyoza and the tempura. The tempura is out of this world. It is nice because the meals start with salad, soup and entree, and then finish with ice cream. Also, the edamame is roasted just a bit. Every time we go we leave satisfied! It is also very affordable. We never seem to spend more than $50 for a family of 4. You won't be disappointed! read more

I like this place. It's small (about 8 tables) and the decore is as good as can be done given the layout. The sushi is excellent, nice presentation and flavor. As others have stated, they brought over several small plate appetizers that we didn't order, but they were tasty and free. The service was slow as it seemed there was only one sushi chef and one waiter. There were two other employees who just seemed to bring out food and/or clear the tables. Everyone was very nice, just wish things came out of the kitchen faster. I'll be back...good fresh sushi, nice presentation and prices are fair. read more

Great place to come eat sushi. The food was fresh, the waiters were very attentive. They offered us to try new rolls. One of the best things that I loved, sushi was rolled in thin layer of rice paper vs actual rice. Great for kids atmosphere, the owner and waiters were interactive with kids. My favorite rolls include the New Age Roll #2, Glen Rock Roll and the Maple Roll. Their chef is extremely creative with their signature rolls so I suggest you try a few! Asa has some of the best sushi and service I have seen. The sushi is always fresh and beautifully arranged. The sushi chef is fantastic and pays attention to detail in every dish he creates. Honestly, very surprised. Was pretty quiet for a Thursday night, but the rolls we had ordered were incredible, and the fluke was mouth watering. They had many rolls to choose from for the special although they were mostly Tuna. The servers were very nice and quick. One of the few places in the area that actually care about the quality of their fish. If you want to set it get a price of tuna sashimi from all the other places and you'll see for yourself. The only issue I have is because they focus on takeout the fish is not always at the ideal temperature. That being said during transit it come to the proper temperature. read more

Then we had Hamachi and pork belly for appetizers, and sashimi specials for main meal. The fish is freshest in Bergen county. We are foodies and have been in all sushi restaurants in North Jersey. Just noticed this new restaurant last week and decided to try it tonight. The restaurant was small and packed on a Thursday night - I can imagine it may be difficult to get a table on weekends. Excellent meal - really loved the Key West roll. I planned on ordering miso soup and salad with my roll so it was a nice surprise when I learned both already came with the meal! Very friendly staff. I also really appreciated the thoughtful presentation. Everything was nicely plated. Another bonus: more vegetarian sushi options compared to most Japanese restaurants I've been to. My vegetarian sister liked the choices and said her Veg Godzilla roll was the best veg sushi she's ever had (granted she's not a huge sushi fan so maybe take that with a grain of salt). For 2 people (1 special roll, 2 vegetarian rolls, two sodas plus the complimentary soup, salad and ice cream) = $32+ tip. For the quality of the meal I couldn't be happier with that price. I live nearby so I definitely plan on keeping Asa in heavy rotation. read more

I had a wonderful first time here. The server and the chef (who are married) were very friendly and inviting. The restaurant was small but comfy and quiet, outside of a few loud kids and a distracting TV. The food was excellent. The miso soup and salad were terrific as with the appetizers. I had the sushi bento box. It had sushi, dumplings tempura and a California roll which were all great. We finished our meal with a very tasty orange sherbet. Completely disappointed by this place. There a long dark hair on my plate (in my wasabi), and the food wasn't good. The fish tasted old and was even slightly off-color, not vibrant like fresh fish. The ambience inside was okay, but nothing special. I will never come back- I'd have been better off picking up sushi from Shop Rite...it would've tasted better, been higher quality, & also been less expensive. HOWEVER, if you're interested in fancy plating for subpar seafood, this is a good choice. read more
