Oscar's provides a great diner experience, with a fun environment and reasonable prices. Worth a visit if you're looking for breakfast in Durango - we'll be back! Environment: The vibe is a fun, 1950s-style diner with very busy walls and an awesome little electric train that runs the length of the restaurant near the ceiling. Given that this is within whistle-sound distance of the Durango-Silverton train depot, it makes perfect sense (and makes this a nice place to stop if you're going on the train with kids). As with every other restaurant in Durango, space seems to be at a premium, so expect your table to be jammed in close to a neighboring table. Environment: 4/5 Service: We were seated promptly and given a few minutes to consider our order. It didn't take long at all - probably no more than five minutes - for our order to come out. Our servers did a good job of keeping our beverages topped up, as well, but the service was not particularly outstanding relative to an average restaurant experience. Service: 4/5 Food: My wife and I each ordered the Farmer's Breakfast - hash browns, sausage, bacon, eggs, and a biscuit with gravy. This is all pretty standard diner fare and there's not typically a lot of room for differentiation between restaurants that serve these sorts of basic foods. That said, the sausage casings were more crispy than I'm accustomed to (not saying it's a bad thing, just different). The gravy for the biscuit was peppered and had pieces of sausage, but could have used a touch more salt (no problem, just added that to taste). It has a cool diner feel but in a strip mall. The place is very small. I'm a big fan of sitting at the counter at places like this but so are the regulars. There was a waiting list to be seated which is understandable but people who came after me were seated at tables before I could get to the counter. I got a basic breakfast so really can't say how the signature dishes are but they have an interesting selection of breakfast options. read more

We've been eating breakfast all over town, and Oscar's is our hands-down fave. It was the perfect go-to for an early morning pit stop before a day on the river, as well as a late weekend brunch. The servings are plentiful, the food is solid, and the staff are efficient. And while pie isn't our thing, this seems to be the place to go if you want a slice. read more

Wow, what a gem! Brought my friend's son down to college, they took me here. Tiny and covered with funky train memorabilia, red vinyl stools at the counter, it was worth the 10 minute wait we had. The Verde breakfast, eggs & hash browns smothered in green chile, lived up to the hype. Cheap and delicious, I would love to go back and try some of the other items on the menu. Oscar's has fantastic breakfasts. The french toast was delightful, full of cinnamon, brown sugar, and nutmeg. The ham steaks were cooked to perfection. Their coffee was also very good. We will definitely come back the next time we are in town. read more

Perfection in a small town All-American diner! The non-touristy locals-favorite was nearly full on a Monday afternoon (my #1 reason and method to try a new place). Fun, young waitresses dancing and singing as they serve, and nobody asked them to be happy - who loves their job this much? 1:30 sharp the lunch specials menu (I had the French Dip) gets wiped off the board - two days in a row would not make it special, right?! Oh my gosh the blueberry pancakes were out of control!! And of course I couldn't stop there.. I had the Durango Scramble with a side of salsa verde. after getting my family and i split up they wouldn't let us order what we wanted after three attempts. we are all only allowed to commit to one menu. they don't care about you're food allergies. All they care about is the MONEY. they also won't allow you to order off the kids menu even if you offer to pay more. ridiculous. this place isn't worth the food because sadly it was disgusting. read more

We went here for breakfast on a Sunday while in town visiting. It's a small place and can be crowded, but had cute character and was a good breakfast. Great service! All the staff was friendly and fast. Our coffee and water were always filled to the top. The pancakes were huge! Probably coulda had one and still been very full. Found this place by accident and was pleasantly surprised. The food was good, but I really enjoyed the experience. Had the Rueben and the triple decker oscar sandwich. It was so much food my wife and I split the Rueben and boy was the meat hot and tasty. We took the other sandwich home for another meal. The food came out in timely manner, at the end of the meal I paid my bill and thanked the waitress for the dinner and show, we were throughly entertained the entire time we were there. We had to wait a short time for space to open up (even at 1:00 there was still a line. If you like Sysco, premade food-- you will like this restaurant. As for me, I like homemade food. So this place isn't for me.

The place is small and I can guess also always crowded, but the breakfast served here is definitely worth the wait. Just avoid it only if you are in a real hurry, otherwise you'd have no excuses not to wait for your turn. The staff is very nice and they always come to you with a smile even though it must be a real hell for them to deal with that many people every morning. You can see the kitchen from the counter and the big pile of bacon always ready is a delightful sight and a sign of how many dishes are served daily!
