I love Diners. The heavy sturdy plates and coffee cups and saucers. The subtle tinkling of utensils against dinnerware. The smell of freshly brewed coffee was like a warm greeting for your restless nights. This place was always clean almost pristine. We came early, shortly after opening time, so it was quiet and peaceful. This day, I tried the Italian Omelette with your usual home fries and toast. I liked it. The combination of sausages, onions and mozzarella gave good bites. Our server was quite pleasant, checking on us, refilling our coffee cups. I would love to keep coming back here. read more

Getting a seat on a Sunday around noon would be an impossibility at most places in Summit, but we were able to grab a table for 5 with ease. The menu is large and pretty much covers all bases of diner fare. The pancakes weren't the best ones I ever had, but they weren't the worst. My wife's tuna melt was pretty good, although I think they used lite/fat free mayo as the base. Need to kick it up a notch. The omelette and other egg entrees that my friends had looked good, and a picky child finished all of his lunch. My grandfather was Greek and so was Gus, who owned and ran the Peppercorn until about six months ago. I wish him well and many happy journeys back to beautiful Greece. So on this Sunday morning in sleepy Sunday, I had just had a typically unpleasant experience at the other diner and knew it'd be better here. It was. As I walked in, I was welcomed with a cheery "good morning". Bright and spotless. I slid into a booth - alone and wasn't upbraided. Friendly regulars trickled in. "Did you miss me?" asked one woman as a cheery Peppercorn employee responded "of course!" "Oh I don't believe you one bit but I'm glad I made you say it!" We've been coming to the Peppercorn for years. They recently changed hands, and there appears to be a difference in food quality and service. I understand it's a diner and it's not going to be perfect. However, if you're in the middle of Summit, you have to be on your game. The girl serving us was very young. She did an ok job. Our food came out at different times. Not sure if that's on the kitchen or the server but I finished my meal before my parents even got their food. My mom ordered a chili dog. They brought it to her without chili and said, "Oh we didn't have chili so we gave you peppers". The whole point of ordering a chili dog is to have the chili. What if she doesn't like peppers? As a server, if you don't have something, you need to tell the customer before you give them the food. My dad's oatmeal looked like soup. I told him to send it back but he didn't want to complain. My grilled cheese was good. We might come back for lunch. They have good options. Service just needs to be a little tighter. read more

The Rueben with corn beef was good but they forgot to bring my pickle and cole slaw. Tried to get a different dressing for the Waldorf, but they didn't have any creamy dressing; so no dressing for the Cobb either. Salad toppings were disappointing and scarce. We came here on a Saturday around 11am to grab brunch, and they had plenty of seats for us. We got a Open Tuna Melt and a Broccoli Omelette with Mozzarella and both were quite good! I'd totally get the Open Tuna Melt again. The bill came out to $30 with two cups of coffee. Our waitress was kind and quick. Ambiance is pretty chill, everything felt clean and straightforward. Nothing fancy here. Just good Greek diner food. They are only open for breakfast and lunch. The service is friendly and prompt. Wonderful pancakes with good crispy bacon. Home fries and pea soup are especially very good. Everything is made fresh each day - potatoes are peeled in the kitchen for mashed and the vegetables and meats are all prepared daily in their kitchen. The diner is family owned and the family is always there. It's a Summit staple and hopefully will continue to stay for many more years. And, oh yes, you can purchase liter bottles of imported Greek olive oil made by the owner's brother back in Greece. I only buy my virgin oil there. Two bottles at a time. This place has the best Greek food in Summit, which is ironic because this is a diner and not specifically a Greek restaraunt like that specifically Greek place in town. You know that hipster Greek spot with windowless seating? Anywho, I ordered the Greek platter with grilled chicken. This platter was chock full of goodies. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and grilled to perfection. No burnt ends or uncooked parts. The pita was warm and slightly toasty. Very well done. It came with a nice sized bowl of tzatziki sauce. The accompanying salad had a nice mix of greens and cubes of flavorful feta on top. You seat yourself and a server comes to the table rather quickly. Wholesome meals with no fuss. With diners, you usually know what you're getting. You're either getting average food or it's slighter better than expected or way worse than expected. This pleasantly was slightly better than expected. Mozzarella sticks, chicken salad with lettuce and tomato, and the chicken orzo soup were all classics done well. Not sure if this diner has had less business due to COVID, but we were the only ones in there on a Friday afternoon. The interior is just fine. Looks clean and smells clean. The bacon is thick cut and was crisp. I found the coffee to be nice and strong as well. Not watered down like some places. It had a rich coffee flavor that I really enjoyed. My mom had two eggs over easy with bacon, home fries, white toast and tea. She thoroughly enjoyed her meal as well. The over easy eggs were cooked to perfection, and the potatoes and bacon were delish as well. We also each ordered OJ as well. I'm not sure what brand OJ they serve, but it was so good I ordered a 2nd large glass of it. :-) I can definitely see how parking might be a task here, as it's street parking on a very busy street. We were very lucky to get the spot right in front of the restaurant. There is parking in the lot behind this block if you don't mind walking around, which we have done plenty of times. Peppercorn is exactly what I think of when I watch a classic movie featuring a diner. Every seat, a booth. Large portions and a quiet still environment. Even the bills are hand written. It's a nice experience to sit and chat with a friend in a cozy nostalgic spot. The food is reasonably price. I had a Gyro which was a fresh and large portion. This is a clean simple diner offering your basic diner fare. The food is made fresh and is basic. Don't expect some fancy avant garde twist ok your two eggs and toast. It's priced fairly. I appreciated they didn't have huge oily greesy portions. Their food was served hot and fresh and made to order. I'm used to ordering French toast with sausage from another diner, the portions, taste and prices are very different. Clean, fast, and so very good. We came in at 11am on a Saturday, slightly in a rush as we had a number of errands. Peppercorn was busy but we were promptly seated. The menu is large, but not so large that you're overwhelmed with choices. I easily settled on a bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich. At 5 bucks, it wasn't as packed as a $3-version from my favorite grease truck, but it was good! The hard roll was warm and slightly toasts. Bacon was extra crispy. Could have done with a little more egg and cheese. My fiancé ordered the French toast with sausage. It was about 8 half-slices to a plate plus two sausage links. No real maple syrup here :( but the pano cake syrup they did have was a good consistency. Overall, Peppercorn is great and we will be adding it to our breakfast rotation. All the cooking is done in the main room, as opposed to a back kitchen, and from what I could see, the kitchen is neat and orderly. Came in for lunch. Not busy at all. Menu items are decently priced. Didn't feel like breakfast like I usually get at these diner type places and went for a Pattie melt. The Pattie melt was rather disappointing. It was open faced which wasn't the problem but that the burger patty was pretty much a tasteless unseasoned greasy slab of ground meat. Sure it's edible with some ketchup but I definitely wouldn't get it again or a burger for that matter. I'll update this again once I've tried other items. Update 5/14 Came back and had my usually order of 2 eggs over easy with sausage and hash. Price is about right. Overall good breakfast though frankly I feel going to the Summit Diner is better in portion size and taste. However coming here would definitely be better if you had a larger group, wanted to use credit to pay, or I suppose wanted a cleaner ambience. For me though I'd rather go to the Summit Diner whose hash is much tastier. read more
