I come for the beer and people watching. This is a brew/pub atmosphere with booths and tables. The outside seating is a real plus in the summer. There is a large room upstairs that can be rented out. Outside has a sandbox for the kids and a water feature that turns into a pool for the kids on hot days. This place is laid back. The music programs are great. Most are regional or local blues and jazz musicians. The beer is legendary. They have created some tastes and sauces you cannot find anywhere else - very unique. The food is on the pricey side for what you get. Service is highly dependent on the server - some are great, others are...well.....pretty slow and sometimes disappear for long periods of time. Don't be afraid to get up and ask for service or simply say "keep my beer glass full and life is good", this tends to get their attention. read more

We drove 50 miles to get here but this is quintessential Colorado. It's a must do (then do again) for any Person who claims to be from Colorado. Sandbox and corn hole in the back ( appropriately). Well, what can I say...... I was staying at a hotel just a short walk under the bridge from this place and beer is my thing. I ended up here 3 out of 5 nights that I was staying in the area. The first two times for food and drinks, the last time was the last night in town and I just stopped in for a couple of beers and comradery with a coworker I would most likely never see again. The first night was interesting. I tried a flight of the Oskar Brews. Stellar. I was not an Old Chub fan when I had it in a can here locally, however, on nitro at the brewery it is a whole different animal. I also love that there are other selections. I am a huge Jai Alai fan and was happy to see it was offered on tap. I went back each night for that. I bought a t-shirt and some stickers for my beer fridge. I was a very happy girl. The place is nice, they offer corn hole and a fire pit out back. You can tell the staff is used to dealing with drunks, the waitress was very funny on my second night there, the way she handled one of my party members was tactful, professional and hilarious. Nothing really impressed me about the food though. The meatloaf special was sold out when I wanted to order it, so I opted for the fried chicken, I was good, but nothing spectacular. Went here on a whim to see if the beers on tap were better than the cans at the store. I will say that our beers were pretty good, but both meals were very unsatisfactory. I had had the salmon fish and chips and the fried salmon was as off putting as I imagined (ordered it at the waitress's recommendation) and my boyfriends bbq pork reminded us of elementary school pulled pork sandwiches. Our collard greens had nothing in them to offset their natural bitterness, our Mac and cheese had literally no flavor, and my fries were soggy and cold. I've been coming to Oscar blues for years. Even before this location was around. They have an amazing selection of house brewed beers. Their bloody Mary's are good as well. I've never had anything on the menu that I didn't love. My favorite is probably the house smoked wings. I always make sure to pick up a bottle of the old chubs hot sauce, it is so good! Oskar blues has an awesome atmosphere. It's Family friendly during meal times and sometimes they have music upstairs at night. All-around I've never had a bad experience Oscar Blues. read more

It was also very disappointing that they do not have the same menu as the one in Lyons. Why would you not have the amazing O-Rings that are in Lyons. Ordered the elk burger which has little to no taste. Not sure if they use seasoning in the kitchen but would have been nice. Pickle was limp, uneventful. Fries were decent, nicely cooked. Lettuce was near browning. Food was cold, Luke warm at best. Staff was very nice. Online ordering gives you the option of 15, 18, or 20% tip...for a pickup. This is my big issue. Why not have a manual tip option? You all aren't hosting me in your business so I'm not sure why the 15% tip. 20-25% tip for the server when in house but 15% for a pickup? Well, as I need to be in Longmont frequently, it's been a mini mission to locate something...anything...that gets close to decent in, well, virtually any category. Understandably, I have found a decent bar food place (imagine that), a very good breakfast diner place (closed Sunday...huh?), a passable Japanese/Sushi place (yeah really), and of course a couple of excellent Mexican joints. Aaanyway - This Oskar Blues place...packed beyond packed...showcasing just how desperate those who are forced to live in Longmont for whatever reason are dying for something...anything new...or even close to good. This place may have been decent food-wise, but I will never know. If I ran that place I would start with ONE thing...fire every one of their bartenders. I mean really. I stood there trying to get a beer for 10 minutes (not exaggerating) and not ONE of the 4 punks behind the bar could even be bothered to look up. I totally get what it's like behind the bar (trust me), but please...they are often the front line to customers....especially at this place with it's bizarre mix of tacky Longmont diners (sorry), middle-aged stalkers...errr...beer drinkers, and families who think it would "be fun" to go somewhere new. I honestly could not tell what they want to be...well except a beer place with tables...and the worst service I have seen in a long time. BTW - Went to their little "tasting bar" in an office park a couple of nights prior. Aside from the dozen WAAAYYY over-served patrons slobbering around the place, there, too...I could not get a beer without begging...as they were too busy talking to one another and comparing Tramp Stamps. Oh, Homemade Liquids and Solids how I love thee.... This may seem a bit out of the way for a gent such as myself that lives in Denver, but we make the trip regularly, and it's worth it every time. This Southern Style blues/brews/bbq spot is one of my absolute favorite places anywhere. Here's what rules: 1. The beers. They have so many excellent beers on draught, I never know where to start. I feel like a kid again, unable to commit to just ONE piece of candy. But come on, seriously, how can you possibly commit when EVERY beer is delicious. 2. The food. Southern style, and done right. I personally love the bbq. It's smoky and tender and their hot sauce selection is killer. I LOVE the ghost chili hot sauce, but tread lightly. One blow can kill a man. You also must get the corn. I know this is an odd thing to lust after, but their corn is roasted with poblano peppers and it's beyond. Beyond. 3. The music. Blues. Good blues. Dirty, smoky, Delta blues. Here's what sucks: 1. The Happy Hour appetizers we had, fried pickles and fried green tomatoes were decent. The beer was good but served too cold holding back many of the hop flavors in the IPA. Overall the meal started out pretty good and then I got the brisket as my main dish. It was the single saltiest bite of food I ever have had aside from eating a handful of salt. Almost like they had an angry cook looking to get revenge on their boss by making it inedible. I ate about half of one of the slices on my plate and couldn't wash the salt from my mouth so just pushed the plate to the side. They have an old bus turned play area for kids which was cool except for all of the broken glass and sharp metal inside; a lawsuit waiting to happen. Had the crab cake sandwich and the catfish sandwich. Overall: average. Should be two dollar signs because my wife and I went there for lunch with our 1-year-old daughter. Ordered two sandwiches and a grilled cheese, one beer and one diet coke and it was $33 before tip. Not the one-dollar (cheap) rating that's on the site. Food-wise, it's bar food. The waitress recommended the burger and the fish & chips (boring) so I went with the catfish po-boy which had capers and a shrimp remoulade which made it interesting, but not rave-review-interesting. I've heard that the beer is good, but they were out of the 'brown' beer that I usually order and they don't have an 'amber' offering. I had the pilsner and it was good for a pilsner. Like most microbrews, I got a buzz off the first beer but didn't have the typical yeast sediment or cloudiness of most microbreweries so they probably filter their beers. This review only pertains to a singular experience at The Liquids and Solids location as I am usually quite satisfied. Last night I took my office to OB for our holiday dinner. We had about 14 people, so we were clearly going to have a fairly significant bill. Perhaps it is just me, but I expect an elevated level of service when bringing that many people to your establishment. The Service: When you have a party of 14, it is typical that a restaurant will assign two servers or at least assign on server to take care of the party. Not so. Our server was covering the entire section which meant that many of us had empty glasses. Our server did a pretty good job, but more staff should have been assigned to the section in my opinion. Maybe I am being a little entitled, but I feel like when you come in to drop $500 a certain level of service is expected. The Food: I am usually a big fan of OB's food. Our wings we ordered as appetizers were great. I ordered the smoked brisket. I don't know if it was an off night, but what I received was NOT smoked brisket. It was dry pot roast with a little BBQ sauce on top. This piece of meat did not look like it had ever seen smoke and I am not sure if it was brisket at all. Normally brisket is sliced across the grain. This just looked like stringy dry pot roast. It sucked and I barely ate any of it. I should have sent it back. read more

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING! I had been really looking forward to visiting this new Oskar Blues but wished I had stayed home. First, being a Friday night I thought it would be a smart move to call ahead to get on any wait list they might have. I phoned about 20 minutes prior to arriving and the girl on the phone talked to me like I was crazy. She told me reservations weren't necessary and said there would be no wait. Once I arrived I was made to wait a half-hour. None of the employees seemed inviting or that they appreciated our business. My party and I asked to sit on the patio and we were given an inside table. If you're a beer drinker there were many choices to drink but don't order a mixed drink. The bar here pours mostly the mixer and forgets any alcohol. The food was decent but the portions made me feel like I was back in LA. I will definitely not be taking anyone here anytime soon. read more

They do have a lot of beers to choose from and they have vegetarian and gluten free labeled items on the menu. This is great for a bar menu!!! But..... We show up and get a table. Wait 5 min, 10 min, 15 min for someone to finally come by to even take our drink order. Lame, but can happen to any place, so no big deal. Next, I order a beer, no dice out of that one. Okay, it's a good beer. Order a different one, nope, out of that one too. Happened to the friend I was there with as well, but only once, so that means they are out of 3 beers, but he told us they were out of more than that. Wow, well maybe it's just a bad day. 3rd, we order a pizza, some safe bar food that's hard to not get right. I joke about them being out of the chipotle sauce. Guess what?!!? They come back and tell us that they are out of that too. So we choose something else. Can they be out of everything? The beer I did end up getting stunk and the service left something to be desired, so I'm not sure what all the hype is about after all this. Do people have unreasonable expectations here? I don't know. Our stuff was good. I like what they've done with the place and I'm glad that Oscar Blues chose Longmont for both their brewery and the restaurant. I always found Oskar Blues to be the kind of place that you end up at sometimes because you live 5 minutes away and, really, the food isn't THAT bad. So you go in, have a vaguely disappointing dinner and leave thinking you probably won't go back, but then you do. Well, the cycle has been broken. I won't be going back to Oskar Blues, at least not this one. This establishment needs to decide whether it's a family-friendly eatery, bar, or music venue. Los Cheesies were playing tonight (and they're not too bad, tbh) and it seemed that NO ONE in the place knew how to work the sound system. It was SO loud that the entire restaurant were screaming across the tables to talk, and even our waitress said she'd "never heard any band so loud" in there before. Children and adults alike were walking around holding their ears! Come ON, guys! What a poor show! Turn down the sound and learn something about acoustics, or at least warn people that it's a 3rd (more like 100th) rate music venue after a certain time in the evening. Just avoid it. There are so many cool places in Boulder and Longmont to get a beer and a (way better than OB) burger and enjoy some well-done live music. Oskar Blues just isn't one of them. read more
