Despite that, I was still charged a hefty diagnostic fee just to be told exactly what I had already explained. I was quoted on the phone for $1,200 yet the diagnostic alone was $700 not including actually fixing my condenser! What made the experience even worse was the mechanic's attitude. Instead of being professional, he complained to me about how difficult the diagnosis was, even though the issue had already been identified. He also went on about how difficult customers can be, which was completely inappropriate and unprofessional. As a customer, I don't expect to be vented to or made to feel like I'm part of the problem. I understand that shops have procedures, but charging me for a diagnosis I had already provided, then complaining about the work and about customers, left a very bad impression. It's over 90° in the shade here today. I drove 9 miles, 5 on the freeway. I get here, go in expecting I'll have to entertain myself and keep my dog cool for a few hours close by and the guy behind the counter goes May I help you? I'm all Hi I have a 1 o'clock appointment for an oil change. He looks at me as if the wall behind me suddenly grew a big fat set of lips and said it. First response was we don't make appointments. Then he says Are you sure you have the right shop? I showed him the numbers I called and he says We only have one number and I'm the only one that answers. Hmmm yea so I dial the first # and it rings the phone in front of him. He says we'll that's us.....who did you talk to? Dude, you if your the only one answering. He says he never spoke to anyone about an appointment and besides they are booked 4 days out. Wait...what? But you sa.....ok whatever. So I call the 2nd # and Lo!! Behold the phone on the other counter rings. He looked at it with an "Well shucks by golly will you look at that!" expression. A little more denial&questioning and it felt like when the hands raised palm up on either side of that Alfred E. Newman look, it was a foregone conclusion. I called 3 times throughout the day to no avail! From the moment I called Northbay (on PB South-not the shop with poor reviews) and spoke with Ryan, I got better customer service than I had expected. He kindly answered my questions, got me on their calendar on the day and time of my choice-not first come first served while never knowing how long the wait would be, like my last auto repair shop. Northbay took care of everything from oil change, filter, complete annual service, including hoses, brakes, brake pads, suspension, inspections and battery test, tire rotation, rodent repellent device purchase and installation, purchased and replaced the rubber cowl guard that rats destroyed, smog test and certificate. My last auto shop sent me to a crowded, smoke filled run down place with no seating for a smog check. Ryan also gave me a 15% good customer discount on the labor even though I hadn't been there before. I believe the cost was equal to the extensive professional service they provided. When I brought my car in, one of the guys even gave me a ride home on his way to pick up something (5-10 minutes) because my husband was out of town. When Ryan called the next day to say my car was ready, my husband had just returned and dropped me off just minutes before closing, though Ryan had offered to send an Uber to my home in case I needed a ride. When I received a request to rate them, I gave them 5 x 5 stars which was well deserved. I've already recommended them and will continue to do so.

Our son's Ram 2500 diesel was having transmission problems and we took it to Empire Automotive on a Thursday for diagnostics. Chris called me the next morning to let me know the transmission was in fact toast and would need replacement. However, he had good news for us. He saw a warranty sticker on the transmission and called the company and found out the transmission was still under warranty. The transmission company sent out a replacement transmission free of charge and helped cover the cost of the installation. Chris installed the new transmission and made sure it was all dialed in by the following Wednesday. I was only charged for the diagnostic and installation of the transmission, which was very reasonably priced and I will get reimbursed for a big chunk of it from the transmission company to boot. I appreciate their honesty and integrity with their customers, and I never felt like they were trying to pad their profits. Just good folks looking out for their customers. They could have just as easily ignored the sticker, like I'm sure occurs more than we know at other garages, and charged us for a transmission as well, since we had no idea the transmission had a warranty when we bought it. They have certainly won my trust and I will not hesitate to take my vehicles there going forward. The entire staff is friendly, honest, and knowledgeable and their turn around time was much quicker than expected. Based on my experience, I absolutely recommend them to anybody!

I am super particular when it comes to my vehicles (make that "obsessive") and always want the best for them when it comes to service and how they are cared for. Empire was very accommodating with my desire to use my preferred fluids of choice (Amsoil) and provide them myself. Chris was also very helpful in getting my vehicle in and out in a timely manner and it was ready right when he said it would be. Everyone in their office was so nice and pleasant to deal with (particularly Gabby) and I had such a good feeling with the entire experience even as a first time customer. I felt like my car was in very good hands and I will absolutely be coming back as a repeat customer in the future. The pricing was also incredibly reasonable for what I had done! I'm very fortunate that their shop is within about a 2 minute walk of my house, so it makes a great thing even better when you feel you have an honest and dependable "neighborhood" mechanic. I was only asking if they would so I could decide whether I wanted to used them again or start fresh with someone else. To be clear I was not insisting on it, I was just asking and the person on the phone started, literally, yelling at me about how they needed to get paid. I tried to explain that they had already patched the tire twice, the last time a week ago, and I was happy to pay for a new puncture but if they did not think I should have to pay if it was not repaired properly and after a lot of back and forth he said fine, and then hung up on me.
