Where Do I Begin? A Valentine's Birthday to Remember at Ospi Venice! Ospi Venice has officially earned a spot as one of my absolute favorite Italian restaurants in Los Angeles. My foodie son introduced me to this gem on my Valentine's birthday in 2024, and I was completely blown away. From that first visit, it became a must-return spot for our date nights and Venice outings. Even from the street, Ospi had that vibe--a perfect mix of upscale yet relaxed, stylish yet approachable, with an energy that seemed to spill right out onto the sidewalk. Inside, the restaurant was buzzing--packed with fellow food lovers soaking in the Valentine's Day magic. They offered a pre-fixe menu for the evening, but in true Ospi fashion, it was thoughtfully curated to allow personal choices. I loved that balance--it helps with the evening's flow but still lets diners feel in charge of their own experience. For this special dinner, I let my son take the lead in ordering (as he never steers us wrong), and WOW--he nailed it. To kick things off, every table was welcomed with a glass of pink champagne (how perfect is that for a Valentine's birthday girl?), along with their ricotta fett'unta and black truffle arancini--a dreamy start. My son then rounded out our antipasti with Crispy Provolone, Kale Salad, Neapolitan Meatballs, and Japanese Eggplant. Each dish was more flavorful and addictive than the last--we were in foodie heaven. Our drinks flowed into a round of delicious wine and Negroni cocktails, perfectly timed with our Chicken Parm, Branzino Filet, and Raschiatelli for the main courses. Tapas-style is how our family rolls, and even with personal plates, we shared it all. Every bite was next-level good--Ospi just gets it. Our server was upbeat, knowledgeable, and timed everything to perfection. We never had to wait, yet never felt rushed--a perfect rhythm. I especially loved the open-air kitchen, where we could watch the chefs in action--it added such life and energy to the room and added to the feeling that you're part of something special here. And on the wall? The cutest pink neon sign that read, "feed me pasta & tell me I'm pretty." As someone celebrating her Valentine's birthday in a pink dress, let's just say I felt seen. And of course--dessert. We did it up right with Lemon Budino, Nutella Mousse, and Cannoli, all shared among us. My birthday candle came tucked into the mousse, just in time for my family to break into song. 1 star. Do not pass Go, do not collect $105, and for the love of God, do not eat the fish or the pasta or the eggplant or the pizza. Where to even begin? Apparently, walking in with a group means signing a blood pact to each willingly drop $105. For what, you ask? A masterclass in culinary terrorism. The food is an aggressive masterclass in confusing "spicy" with "flavor." They must season their dishes with pure panic and crushed regrets. The fish was so tough I'm fairly certain it could survive a deep-sea trench unbothered, and the pasta was so lifeless, overly creamy, with a gross flavor like sour yogurt in its dimensions; it felt like eating a geometric proof designed by a depressed accountant. The service? The staff was nice enough, and hey, they actually knew the menu, which is the absolute bare-minimum magic trick that earned them their single, lonely star. As for the highlight of the evening: I am currently writing this from the trenches of my own bathroom, having spent my entire morning dropping a liquid mess in the porcelain pool and ruining my morning commute. I am never late, but I was today! There was a spinning windmill to get rid of the flies that we got rid of, and then flies did come to serve us. I have never once in my life been moved enough by digestive betrayal to drag a restaurant on Yelp, but congratulations to this establishment; you have unlocked a new level of rage in me. Avoid this place unless your stomach lining is made of Kevlar and you enjoy paying upwards of a hundred bucks for an unsolicited colon cleanse. And I tried a bunch of stuff to make the 105 min, but I'm not sure which one is the culprit that saved me from ever needing Ozempic. read more

The pasta is all handmade right by our table, the bartender crafted special personalized cocktails to our occassion without us even asking. Longggg wait but super worth it. I'm afraid we were a little hangry, which was quickly remediated by a margarita pizza and 4 glasses of champagne on the house (thanks Ospi!). It was very busy at 8:30pm on a Friday, but the ambience was great--dimmer lighting and great service. We ordered a lot. Started with crispy provolone and kale salad. The kale salad I can't recommend enough, definitely try it. Mains we had the Raschiatelli, vodka sauce pasta, and chicken parm. Went to Ospi yesterday for a 3 pm reservation. Our waiter was very friendly and even offered us the happy hour menu, which included half portions of a few items we were planning to order from the dinner menu. We ordered the kale salad, rigatoni, cacio e pepe, and the crispy provolone. Unfortunately, the food came out really cold. The only dish we genuinely enjoyed was the kale salad. I'm not sure what went wrong, but it was disappointing, especially since pasta is what this place is known for. Delightful patio experience. Party of 3 on a Saturday at 6pm for a friends birthday Heaters were on, service was prompt and the offerings were excellent. We ordered 4 different items: First, the sausage pizza with caramelized onions--the pizza was tasty--thin crust, fresh toppings and the Fresno chili was a nice touch. We were encouraged to order the kale salad and it was delicious. Everything meshed together well, the kale was well marinated and everything chopped the same size made the salad lovely. As promised the spicy rigatoni was a hit, perfect amount of spice, soft and fresh pasta. Last, but certainly the star of the show was the chicken Parmesan--easily the best chicken Parmesan I ever did have, perfectly breaded and buttery, moist chicken and the best sauce--we liked that it was served in a pan. My partner and I tried Ospi today and I think we may have caught them on a bad day. We were very excited to try their happy hour and looked forward to checking it out since we love Jemma. We requested to not be sandwiched between two other tables and were sat in a nice location. However, we were waiting for a while and no one was coming to take our order. I kept making eye contact with the host booth and they'd look away and they finally they said - "has no one helped you?" And I confirmed. We had a server come and they apologized, took our order and relayed that our server is on his break. We realized happy hour was ending and ordered more when the drinks were dropped off. To get extra condiments, I needed to flag someone after trying to get their attention. Although the food came quickly, no one checked on us the entire visit. We asked the gentleman clearing our plates to bring us the check and we paid on our phone and left. Hearing the server at the table next to us, they asked about allergies, were checking in on how things are going every step of the way, offering dessert and providing way more than the very basic service that we needed to request. I'm honestly shocked that we had this very poor service experience. As for food and drink, the Aperol spritz and cocktail flight was solid. Fries were really great. The vodka rigatoni had a nice kick to it and caesar salad and meatballs were really tasty. As you can see, food was great, and I highly recommend their happy hour. Great meal. Had heard the name but was pleasantly surprised by the quality, and now I'm mad I didn't come here sooner. We went for a light dinner and drinks, with the kale caesar, cauliflower, and the special corn pillow pasta thing, with a glass of Pinot and the Hot Girl Summer to drink. The food was excellent, but the corn pasta was next level. I had to remind myself to hold conversation instead of just shoving them in my face. We ordered the biscuit ($7; housemade, served with whipped ricotta and raspberry jam), kale salad with chicken ($26; almond dressing, parmigiano, avocado, herbs), lemon ricotta pancakes ($19; whipped coconut, raspberry, and guava syrup), copione pizza ($26; soppressata, honey, chili), and the spicy rigatoni ($25) for 4 people. Very disappointed considering the average star rating. The food was OK; Italian food is generally a dime a dozen unless you find a gem and this one was not. What was so disappointing was the service and the culture of the staff. I sat at the bar this evening. I was never greeted, meanwhile two young men were very busy cleaning glasses and doing their part. A young lady was with a clipboard seemingly doing inventory. About 10 minutes in I asked for help and she came up to me. She handed me a menu and walked away back to her clipboard. About another 5-10 minutes in I finally asked if there was someone who would be serving me and she said she would. I mentioned that if she was too busy with inventory that I could work with someone else and she acknowledged that it was no problem and she would help. I placed my food order and it was delivered by kitchen staff. She never once came back to follow up. I had to ask the men cleaning glasses to give me water refills. I finished my meal and again, never, ever had anyone follow up. She had apparently left her clipboard and was in the kitchen using her phone. I finally had to ask another young man to check me out. I noticed this was similar in the main dining room. Rarely saw wait staff roaming. Instead, many were huddled in the kitchen laughing and having a good time. Considering that several Italian restaurants nearby had similar ratings, I do not recommend going to Ospi Venice. read more

I seriously need to buy a jar next time I go, which I will definitely come back! This place was truly chefs kiss - 10/10 on everything!! They had a special deal going on right now for $45 per person app, main and dessert. We tried the Neopolitan Meatballs, Kale Salad, Spicy Rigatoni and Chicken Parm. Honestly, everything was great. The kale salad had such great textures and perfect flavor combo. I personally don't like cilantro, but I didn't feel like it was overpowering. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and we loved that the chicken parm had the vodka sauce on it. Located on the corner of Pacific Avenue and North Venice Boulevard in Venice, this is a fantastic restaurant! Ospi is always crowded, so it's best to get a reservation. Ospi has both indoor and outdoor seating, so you have your pick on where you want to sit. I've sat both inside and outside, and they're both great choices. As this place is packed, it will take some time getting food and drinks out to the table. But it's definitely worth the wait! I've gone with friends and we usually end up sharing our plates with each other, as well as order a pizza or two. As I'm a bit of a Whiskey Sour afficionado, I can attest that their Whiskey Sours with Bulleit Rye are top-notch. Their food is equally as good. Since we all ordered so many dishes, I can't really zero in on what was good as it was ALL good! :-D Our servers are all excellent, and make sure to keep the meal moving along. This place is one of my favorites. I have gone for many birthdays using their prefix menu..the lowest one has been the perfect amount for parties of 8-12 of us. Brunch was good. I personally wasn't the biggest fan of the sausage and can't quite pin down why other than that so good. I wish they could decaf, but sadly don't for coffees. The service has always been great with refilling waters, drinks and food coming. Have flagged down the server a couple times for the check, but other than that the place is always great. How do you go from five stars to one. Start with the portion size. I've been coming here for over three years and have told many people about this place. I went today to get the spaghetti pomodoro which I've had over ten times.(great sauce will always bring me back) Anyway they changed it from spaghetti to capellini which is okay, though I do prefer the spaghetti. When the dish came out it was like half the size that you usually get. It almost looked like an appetizer. And to top it off, the sauce was kind of bland today. This place absolutely takes the cake. Get the spicy rigatoni- trust me it's the best sauce. So well kept and real. The fried cheese is amazing. Was in town so the girls picked this spot for a quick dinner. It wasn't too busy inside but we opted for patio seating. Thank goodness they had propane heaters as the evening hit it got chilly. The menu included an intriguing selection of pizzas and pasta entrees but was def on a pricey scale for the serving size. Our apps came out quickly but I thought the entrees took a bit longer to be served I was already ready to leave. Although the staff was friendly they didn't come check if we needed anything additional or even fill our water. Venice has plenty of solid options for pasta but Ospi continues to stand out as a fun spot to catch up with friends over cocktails and great food. I recommend ordering a couple things to share family-style for the full experience. Crispy Provalone - I think about this a lot and is a must. No meal here is complete without it. The breading is so well-seasoned and the cheese pull is unreal Japanese Eggplant - 11/10 one of my recent discoveries here. Best described as a deconstructed eggplant parm. I appreciate the use of the Japanese eggplant here because it is sweeter and has better overall flavor Spicy Rigatoni - One of my favorite staple dishes. Pasta is cooked perfectly al dente and not too heavy Kale Salad - This is was one of the best side salads I have had this year. The almond dressing has a great balance of sweetness/acidity and is a great alternative to the Caesar salad (vegetarian friendly) Ricotta Gnudi - Not my favorite but can see this being amazing for someone who loves ricotta Stracciatella Fett'unta - This is essentially a burrata toast served on a slice of rustic bread and was surprisingly filling. A stronger kick from the calabrian chilies would really elevate this Service here is top-notch and the playlist is such a vibe. Only downside is that the parking situation can be challenging as it is either street parking or the paid parking garage next to Si Mon, but worth the trouble. read more

Rating is for the food and experience. Location / parking leaves a bit to be desired but they have worked out a valet deal with a parking garage directly across the street for $15. There's also a pay-to-park open lot kitty-corner to the restaurant. They have outdoor seating (right next to the sidewalk, covered with temporary sides and roof. Indoor dining is much better, in my opinion. Reservations HIGHLY recommended - even during the week. We dined on a Monday night around 6:30pm and it was packed. If it is your first time here, asked your server to talk about the menu and restaurant. They make their pasta in-house, in fact, you can watch the process when you are there. They have at least two sister restaurants in El Segundo (Jame Enoteca and Jaime Taqueria), both very, very good. Which, we did not know until our server, Kaya, told us about it. In these days when everyone is rushing and getting personal service is dying, it was great to have someone willing to spend time with our table and fully explain not only their menu items but also the history of the restaurant. Great experience indeed. After learning about the items, we ordered three and had them family style. The Cavatelli, Raschiatelli, and the Salsiccia pizza. If you like a little spice with your pasta, and you like sausage, get the Raschiatelli. Great flavor but too much of a kick for me. But, my dining partners loved it. I went with the Cavatelli and it was amazing. The pasta, the sauce, the pork sausage (mild), really great. I had zero leftovers. The Salsiccia pizza was also great. Note that we just came back from a family visit to the East Coast so we recently had some great pizza. This one has a nice, crisp crust and ample toppings. Very good flavor and, like the other entrees, we had zero leftovers. As mentioned, other than parking, it was great. Definitely would recommend trying it if you are in the area. Despite being the only ones outside, our service was VERY attentive. Our water was never empty which is always a great metric for me. Loved our server Shelby and staff how kept checking in on us. Unfortunately we were a bit disappointed that the meatballs came with only three when we were told they came with five. Additionally, the cookies were a miss :( cold and hard and not so flavorful. The highlights for me were the kale salad (super refreshing with a great dressing) and the spicy rigatoni. The house made pasta made a huge difference in taste and texture. The pizza is super thin like a Neapolitan and it was really good along with the tagliatelle bolognese. The calamari was OK - it was neutral for me as was the tiramisu. If I was just ranking the cannolis, I would give this place five stars, they are fantastic. I've been there now a couple times and I would say it's a bit inconsistent. Some items on the menu are somewhat tasty and many leave you wondering why you stopped by. I will say the staff is very friendly. Recently found this place while looking for pasta options on the west side and decided to try it out. My quick review is that it's good but overpriced. We sat outside on the deck that is near the street and overall they've done a decent job turning the outside space into a relaxing experience. The staff are all friendly and helpful, however I would say that our waiter was tending our table plus a couple of ones inside. Seemed like how the tables were split up made it more difficult for the waiter to come by. The food overall was pretty good, we split a couple of appetizers and then each had pasta dishes for the main course. I had the Raschiatelli which had pork and a bread crumb like topping. It had a ton of flavor and felt uniquely made than what I am used to. I enjoyed the variation of textures throughout and would recommend it if you like a meatier pasta. Also tried the Gnudi pasta dish which was softer than a gnocchi but similar tastes. The red wine options were also solid and went well with our meals. Main complaint was that I felt the price was a little above where it should be. Very disappointed in this location. I'm a huge Opsi fan as I'm a frequent diner @ the Brentwood and Venice locations. Last night I dined in the Venice venue and was so very disappointed. Started with the ceaser salad which was so bland. Veal parm can out dry and the pastas (two different ones) looked and tasted like they had sat out too long before they were served. The Caesar Salad was okay - the overall sprinkle of crunchy bread crumbs was not to my liking. The Crispy Provolone was just okay as well. There were lots of open tables, and we were seated right away, but the service was just too intense -- wasn't able to have a conversation with my guest without getting interrupted with more napkins, water, additional utensils, and just felt it was just to much. Delicious homemade pasta. I ordered the linguine which is supposed to contain lemon, but there was no detectable lemon flavor. I liked the addition of fish sauce though. My friend ordered the lemon tagliolini with lobster. Both were delicious with perfectly cooked pasta but not as described in the menu. Even so, we cleaned our plates. Two plates of pasta, a glass of wine and an espresso was over $125 after tax, a mandatory benefits charge (my responsibility?) and tip (service was excellent) but I won't be returning soon when there are plenty of restaurants with a better value proposition. read more

What can I say , I've tried a lot of different mozzarella sticks & I am a big fan. One of ospi got to try food item is definitely the crispy provolone . I was amazed on how such a simple yet extremely delicious piece of cheese can be . Served with their vodka sauce . So crispy and so tasty . 10/10 we also had their Margherita pizza & their spicy rigatoni . Pizza was not disappointing . Very thin crunchy crust . But with the pasta I expected more. There was nothing to extraordinary about it . Service was okay , our server seemed to be annoyed of us for asking for Parmesan cheese , crushed red peppers & extra vodka sauce . They don't have ranch with us understandable but I love to try different ( boujee ) restaurant ranch dressing . A bit pricy for sure . Dining area is fairly big . We had drinks, fettuccine, beef cheeks ragu, and dessert. I had a mocktail, which was excellent. We tried all of the desserts. I'd recommend the lemon custard. The cannoli was a bit sweeter and fluffier than I'd usually expect. The Nutella mousse is very sweet, like Nutella . The service was kind and not intrusive. We sat outside, which was comfortable and quiet compared to the loud atmosphere inside. read more

Okay! So we have been to Ospi's sister restaurants (Jame & Jemma which are both uh-mazing!), and let me start by saying that Ospi did NOT disappoint in the slightest! Seriously one of the best meals/experiences we've had in a while! This was our first time here and we came for the wine pairing dinner, which I was told they do once a month! I have to start by saying that the location and ambiance of this place are on point! It's right in the heart of Venice Beach and it is a fantastic date night/friend night restaurant with a romantically welcoming vibe! The hostess was super sweet & warm (& I'm mad at myself for not getting her name) with a great smile! We got there a little early and only had to wait about 5 minutes at the bar before all of us who were attending the pairing dinner were escorted to the back room. As soon as we sat we were greeted by the manager, D'Andrew (who is definitely easy on the eyes!), with a welcome cocktail! You had 2 options, 1 tequila cocktail and 1 vodka cocktail, both of which are on their bar menu. I had the tequila one and thoroughly enjoyed it. So much so that I ended up ordering another one. D'Andrew and our server, Danielle, made our entire meal so much fun! Danielle's knowledge of the menu was awesome and her vibe is definitely what hospitality is all about! Before I get to the food I have to give a HUGE shoutout to Chef Cody!! This man has some serious mad skills!!! Every dish was like a flavor explosion that made my mouth do a happy dance! (Like I literally wiggled in my seat....A LOT!) The food and wine said "sit down and shut up," and I respectfully complied! So here we go with the menu: First course, Antipasti (paired with a Vermentino di Gallura) Peruvian Scallop Crudo (in an acqua'pazza, chili oil & crispy quinoa). It had the perfect texture with just the right kick of spice! Winter Greens Salad (w/ citrus vinaigrette, fine herbs, orange & walnut). I'm usually not a bitter salad lover but this salad paired with the wine was BRILLIANT! I even had a 2nd helping of it! Burrata (w/ roasted grapes, pine nuts, balsamic & lace crostini) This dish was a perfect balance of sweet & tangy with the smoothness that burrata delivers! The grapes were a perfect touch! Second course, Pizza (paired with an Etna Rosato) Pizza Bianco (w/ provolone dolce, pistachio (yes! pistachio), red onion and parm) This pizza was phenomenal on its own....but paired with this wine took it to another level! Third course, Pasta (paired with an Il Frappato) Cavatelli (w/ rock shrimp scampi & lemon pangrattato) HOLY COW! This pasta rocked my world!! (See what I did there? Since this dish had rock shrimp scampi? The dad jokes are real folks! HeeHee) And again....the wine just elevated this dish to GOAT status! Every bite was perfectly calibrated! Balanced, bold and unapologetically indulgent! Fourth course, Entree (paired with a Taurasi) Lamb Lollipop Chops (w/ eggplant caponata, saba and pistachio) This lamb was cooked to absolute perfection! The wine was very bold but was the perfect compliment to the tasty meat! I scraped the bone to get every bite I could out this dish! This was the kind of flavor you remember on quiet nights! Fifth course, Dessert (paired with a Moscato d'Asti) Key Lime Pie. The Moscato was so crisp and refreshing (my husband is not a Moscato drinker but this one was so good he actually got a second glass!) and balanced the tartness of the key lime pie so beautifully that I literally shouted out "CLEAN UP ON AISLE FRANKIE!" Whoever their sommelier is paired this food with intention, passion and a little bit of magic! I canNOT wait to go back to Ospi and am definitely looking forward to the next wine pairing dinner!
