Old fashion country diner. The decor will transport you back in time. It appears to be a local favorite and a tourist must eat. Salad bar set up inside an old wagon carriage. The building alone is from the 1800's. Service is fast and super friendly make you feel at home even if your just passing through. Just had a basic breakfast and it was cooked as ordered and delicious. I'm sure you'd enjoy it if you stopped through. Don't forget to sit on a saddle at the bar.

Was here for lunch on two occasions during the bike rally. Big place, so even with all the folks waiting it didnt take long to get a table. Theres a lot on the menu & both items I had were delicious. I went with the Monterey chicken the first time which was really good & I loved the beans that came with it. Service here is absolutely 5 star as getting seated, ordering & getting your food is really fast, but you never feel hurried. The women on the floor were all perky & happy & all the things to look at on the walls make it a really interesting place to be

Cowboy town rules. Service and atmosphere: This restaurant was established 104 years ago! It's the iconic spot in the most American cowboy town in the Great State of Texas. This restaurant is also famous for John Wayne memorabilia. The service was fast and very friendly. Food and drinks: Good selection of comfort foods with a touch of good old home cooking. I opted for steak that was cut in the restaurant. I ordered it medium rare but it was more on medium side. It was very tender and very well seasoned so I enjoyed it the way I had it served. Chicken Fried Chicken dish was equally good. Homely cooking with good flavours. Pricing: $/$$ - definitely worth it and I recommend you try this place when you are in town.

The service was good though they were busy. It actually didn't take long to get seated or our order taken. The food was delicious. It was actually quite a bit of food. I couldn't finish it all. Their sweet tea was good Ambiance was laid back and welcoming. Definitely check this place out

Chicken Fried Steak Breakfast

This is the oldest operating restaurant in Bandera. Since 1921 I believe. Its name is short for "Old Spanish Trail". We stopped in after checking out some antique stores and had a very good meal. It has a varied menu so you should be able to find what you want. The staff is very friendly and their service is prompt. One thing to remember is that they don't serve alcohol. But they serve breakfast all day! Of course, I had to try the Chicken Fried Steak, which is called "The Cowboy Breakfast". For some reason I always seem to be on a quest for the best Chicken Fried Steaks in Texas. I have to say it was near the top of my list. The steak was seasoned well and wasn't over-cooked. The breading was fried to perfection and when topped off with that tasty country gravy...it was on. I have to say that the only lowlight was the Lemon Meringue pie. It didn't have a solid lemon zest to it and was pretty bland. Unfortunately, it had an off putting after taste. Hopefully it was just a one off. Regardless, definitely give this Bandera institution a try when in town.

Sooooo good!the hubs got the Duke CFS and the middle kiddo got the middle one. They were huge! We did the loaded fries with chili and bacon on the side (I'm vegetarian) and the youngest had the waffle. Everybody enjoyed everything! It was chilly due to the a/c and the restrooms had very attractive photos :). Fairly inexpensive for what we ordered. If you order sweet tea...get ready for some diabetes. Definitely worth the drive!

My daughter, my friend and I ate breakfast at OST Restaurant. My friend & I ordered the pancake breakfast consisting of a Texas size pancake, 2 strips of bacon & 2 eggs any style.. The breakfast was delicious. My daughter ordered the chorizo & eggs breakfast Enchiladas. She said it was tasty. Our waitress was very attentive and everything & the ambiance in the restaurant was great. We also saw the cowboy gun fight which is displayed twice on Saturdays. We also saw the car show & a beautiful historic carving on a tree in the river park, interesting!! RECOMMEDATION: Is you ever visit Bandera, you must dine at OST restaurant!

We stopped in Bandera on our way from Fredericksburg to San Antonio as we wanted to stop for lunch in a cute town. We opted to eat the Wednesday special which was fried chicken as was delicious. It was a large portion. The sweet tea was tasty as well. I loved the bar with the saddles for stools and the salad in the covered wagon. Cute! Our server was nice and attentive It was a perfect stop for us and we really enjoyed the town as well.

I checked out OST while on vacation. Such a great diner! Walking in you immediately notice all the fun decorations. Very old west vibes, like a cowboy is gonna burst through the doors any second! The service is great. Our server was on top of everything, even though it was a bit busy. She was very friendly and made our experience personable. When the food was dropped off, the cinnamon roll was the first victim. It was great. As was everything else the table ordered. I would go back to OST again if I lived in the state!

Service was great. Server very attentive, proffional. Under the circumstances at least we can get the best out of it and we will get a better experience in this situation than the previous ones but we are not sure if it is possible to get the same result in this time of year or if it.

It was a day trip to Bandera, TX. I had asked on the San Antonio Restaurant Facebook Page, where folks recommended to stop for lunch. Most recommended O.S.T. (Old Spanish Trail) Restaurant. It's the longest operating restaurant in Bandera County, having started in 1921. Dad had pink lemonade and the Old Fashioned Breakfast with 2 eggs, a slice of ham, hash brown, and toast. Hubby and I both had coffee and shared The Duke Chicken Fried Steak with mashed potatoes, toast, and a trip to the salad bar. The CFS was a little chewy, but the gravy was good. The mashed potatoes were really good. We had wanted to try the Bluebberry Buttermilk Pie, but they didn't have any, so we tried the Chocolate Meringue Pie. I was hoping the chocolate part was more like mousse, and this one was more pudding-like. The meringue was perfect. The John Wayne Room was impressive, and I had Dad take a photo with The Duke. We visited both the original courthouse and the current courthouse. Bandera is the Cowboy Capital of the World. Sure enough, we saw folks on horseback across the courthouse. I would love to go back and ride the horses.

Under this pile of chili and cheese there are two chicken enchiladas. I had no room for dessert.

Great service and healthy portions!!! I ordered the chicken enchilada plate... being modest I ordered two. Their freshly made chips and salsa is also very good. It's a good thing I ordered just two. The chicken enchiladas were topped with chili and cheese with fresh chopped green onions. They didn't skimp on the roasted chicken as the couple of bites took me longer to finish. I had no room for dessert. The dining area gets noisy but their excellent service did not slow down. 5 stars for my first lunch experience here on a Labor Day weekend. Drive slow through Bandera's Main Street. If you blink, you'll miss it and have to drive around the block.

The Texas toast was fragrant, and the flavours of the sandwich blended very well together. My cousin got the fried catfish platter, which didn't have much of a flavour, but he said that means it's a river catfish. He is a catfish connoisseur and liked it. The jalapeno hush puppies that came with it were excellent. However, the coleslaw had a very odd flavour, and neither of us liked it. It tasted acrid to me. I didn't really like the fries because of the seasoning, but I still had a few. The server initially gave my cousin water instead of the sweet tea that he ordered. They served us our water and sweet tea in mason jars, which looked very nice, but the water was not pleasing to my taste buds as it tasted like unfiltered tap water.

I had a mushroom swiss burger and onion rings with ranch...so yummy. Cons and the reason for the 3 stars...There weren't any clean tables and the menus were dirty...we saw that there was only one guy seating, getting drinks and serving. I'm guessing he was also the cook, because it took an hour and a half to get our food. Another guy showed up near the end of our meal and was helping take orders. They were obviously short staffed, but I was proud of the guys...they were hustling.

Maybe this place was a chic place at one time- but that time was in the last century. Nothing special about the menu- it is typical Mexican fare. My wife called out the tortilla chips and salsa as "thumbs down". She's on the money on this one. Salsa was tasty (spicy) but the chips bordered on stale. We were there in the late afternoon (about 4-5) and when we walked in the place was nearly empty. The one server on duty was being constantly harassed by a table full of Hispanic dudes that seemed to thing she was their own private server. Usually it doesn't bother me, in fact I really don't like a server hovering over us. But we and the other customers who came in were treated like second class customers. We saw her once when we came in, once when we ordered, once when she dropped off the drinks and once when we got our food. The rest of the time she was occupied with the seven hombres drinking beer. The dudes kept calling out for her and we had to pry her away from them to get the check and pay. No- we didn't get any refills! The food was warm and pleasantly arranged on the plate but not anything I would write about and say.. .wow... that's great. It was average to below average in taste and portion size. The beans and rice were cold. I hate to judge a place on one experience- but it was a not a place I'll go back to. I kept thinking one of those loud dudes was going to stand up and come over to our table to challenge me, "Okay Gringo, I don't like you, get the f*** out of my restaurant..." Click. They seemed to "own" the place- like it was their hangout. That's what it felt like. Honest.

We ordered a burger with only bun, cheese, and patty. Waited in the drive thru line for roughly 30 minutes for a drink, fries, burger, and medium blizzard. After all that time, the blizzard was half unblended and the burger had all veggies, yet no cheese on it. I immediately left an online complaint through the survey on the receipt. I just planned to call for a refund as soon as I wrapped up my weekend night shifts, if they didn't reach out to me first. However, when I called less than 72 hours after the initial transaction and spoke to their manager, he rudely said he "cannot and will not refund" the money as I haven't brought the food back to the store and didn't call within 48 hours. I apologized and tried to explain that I didn't know about a time limit, I live far away, and the 48 hour limit had just been passed. I understood that I had messed up by not knowing the company time limit and stuff, so I hung up after he was very rude the entire talk. I then remembered I made the online complaint the day of and hoped maybe he would be kinder if he knew I tried before. I called again, but he was even ruder the second time. The interaction was horrible, and I still won't be getting my refund from them. TL;DR The fries we could eat were mediocre, tasted slightly greasy unless doused in ketchup, blizzard was half blended, every topping we didn't want want on burger was there, yet no cheese in sight... very rude manager/customer service. Never again!
