This place was amazing. I've been to Italy and this is probably the best Italian food I've ever had. Everything I had there was amazing, The patata is a fried mashed potato ball crispy on the outside soft in the inside. The shrimp were fried shrimp but cooked in like vanilla and hazelnut. Never had a shrimp like that. But the bone marrow was on a different level. I had never though of having bone marrow with blueberry jelly but it is fantastic. The Plin is like a fancy Mac and cheese but with really sharp cheddar. I know they use a different cheese but this is the best way I can explain it. It was really good. And the rabbit was amazing. Rabbit wrapped in prosciutto the pork belly was cooked perfectly. I had an incredible experience. We went for my birthday so we got dessert. We ordered the torta which is a olive oil polenta cake. It was so good I forgot to take a picture. And I also got an affogatto hazelnut gelato with Cafe Umbria espresso. I have no complaints the restaurant was clean, the server was on point. The staff paid attention and kept getting us new plates and forks and refilling our water. Can't wait to go back.
Checked out this spot for the first time recently, small little spot on armitage you can't really tell that restaurant is there, walked in was able to get seated I chose the bar I sat down I think I was sitting for a good 5min no water was given to me and the bartender was doing other things as if I wasn't there he continued to ignore me, a couple had walked in and sat at the bar also and he served them water right away and took their drink order.....I was getting pretty upset...until I had asked a couple questions about the menu he was a bit rude I was about to walk out but I didn't because I was really hungry, so service was ok and food was ok also. Place seemed clean couldn't really hear the music playing in the background It's pretty pricey i probably won't go back to this place.
Wow! We got there and it was a gorgeous night and we sat outside. They were very attentive and quick to come to the table. We got bread, summer risotto, steak frites, and ragu. Every dish hit it out of the park. Amazing! Would return
The restaurant is small in size, but well decorated. A very cozy but upscale feel. We opted for wine over a cocktail, and a man came over to help us decide properly, which was nice. The server was attentive and helpful. The food was great, although I do wish portions were slightly bigger. But I suppose that comes with the territory of nicer restaurants. Overall, a wonderful place to spend an anniversary.
Went here for the first time last weekend and had a great time. Our server was great and recommended a perfect wine for me. Started with the burrata salad which was refreshing and tasty. We shared the plin pasta which is the perfect portion for sharing. My pappardelle and mussels were excellent and my husband loved the rabbit. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the panna cotta. It was just okay, wouldn't get again. My husband got the bombolini which were excellent!
Agnello: 8/10; slagel farms lamb, crispy potato wedges, seared spigarello, lamb jus, gremolata Vitello Tonnato: 9/10; poached beef, tuna, citrus and caper aioli, frisée, crispy egg Risotto: 5/10; peas, mushrooms, Gruyère, pancetta, cherry tomato. this was the special of the night and it was very underwhelming in flavor. Plin: 8/10; house pinched cheese ravioli, thyme, butter. Delicious but pretty expensive for how small the portion is. Coniglio: 9/10; prosciutto wrapped rabbit loin, pork belly, mushrooms, creamy polenta, fontina Pesce: 8/10; pan seared salmon, cauliflower puree, fennel, artichokes, fried capers, tomato. Cooked super well
This place is pretty quaint and cute. Low lighting and a warm ambiance. Service was pretty fast, we were in and or within an hour. However the portions are so small. We got: - Ravioli: this was so small and looked like a children's portion -Ragu: I enjoyed this but I've had better pasta in NYC
Joined a wine dinner last minute and could have been in Italy! Between the wine maker, owner and stellar pairings, it was a delightful surprise in the middle of the week. Planning to bring back many here very soon!
Osteria Langhe was unlike any Italian restaurant I have ever visited. The food is based off of cuisine in Northwestern Italy. I loved the ambiance, the rustic vibes, and the crackling fireplace. Our waitress Maggie was very knowledgeable and helpful. Her recommendations were on point. We started with the anti pasti ; a refreshing insalata; greens, roasted squash, ricotta salata, pomegranate, roasted pepitas, parmesan, avocado aioli and vitello tonnato; poached piemontese beef; tuna, citrus, & caper aioli; frisee, crispy egg. The espresso martinis were the perfect compliment to our meal. My friend ordered the ragu; house fettuccine noodles, northern meat ragu, parmigiano. I ordered the Brasato; braised beef, potato purée, and sautéed vegetables. The meat fell off the bone and it was buttery. I felt each bite melt in my mouth. Truly an exceptional entree. I savored this meal and I look forward to returning to Osteria Langhe for another unique experience.
In a sentence: Creative, inspired, elevated Italian fare in a low key, upscale casual dining atmosphere. This was our first visit to Osteria Langhe, a special birthday dinner that absolutely lived up to our hopes. Trying new Italian restaurants can be tough - everyone has their go tos and their favorites, and sometimes it's tough to even want to explore outside of your pocket. You'll want to go to Osteria Langhe because they create and execute dishes you aren't likely to find anywhere else in the city, and they're doing them extremely well. If you're a wine connoisseur, you'll have a field day with the options. I wouldn't put myself at that level, but as someone who knows enough to be able to pick and enjoy a solid bottle at an affordable range, which is exactly what we did and greatly enjoyed. We started with the quiche, perhaps an odd thing to see on an Italian menu, but a perfect savory starter, filled with crunchy asparagus, mushrooms, melty fontina, and the most delicious squash puree I've ever had. A really great alternative to the usual bread and butter. Then it was onto the delicata squash gnocchi, a similar flavor profile done in a different way, with pillowy soft gnocchi taking in all that flavor, the pecorino and pepitas adding texture, saltiness, and depth. For our entrees, the verdura was one of the most enjoyable dishes I've had in a long time, essentially an elevated vegetable pot pie, just bursting with flavors and textures. Crispy filo dough, more squash and asparagus, brussels, mushrooms, spinach, leek cream and hazelnuts, just an absolute cornucopia of flavors in one dish. We also shared the special, a truffle risotto dish, topped off with an egg, a first for me. We both felt it needed some sort of textural element (toasted breadcrumbs?), but the flavors were next level, particularly as that egg continued to mix in with everything else. It added such a depth of flavor and umami that now I can't imagine having risotto without it. As it was my birthday, the incredible chocolate pudding, an elevated "dirt cup" that tasted like the kind of pudding your grandmother would make, was comped, which was lovely. We did add a scoop of pistachio gelato, which featured waves of flavor I can't quite recall ever having in an ice cream before. Overall, just a wonderful dining experience. Staff were attentive, but not on top of you. We were able to take our time and enjoy an expensive night out without ever feeling rushed. I could see some folks feeling cramped if they were super packed, but I also kind of liked the feel of the layout and atmosphere - it felt far more like a hole in the wall Italian joint in NYC than you typically find in Chicago. Just a really great experience. We will definitely be back to check out their spring menu!
We thought the atmosphere, service and most importantly the food were out of this world! This place has a serious focus on northern Italian cuisine and their wine offers variety of options from Piedmont, truly rare wines which makes the experience very special The owner came out to us and offered more explanations and suggestions including a cheese course that wasn't even on the menu! They were packed and he still found time for us! Vitello Tonnato and Plin were beyond words amazing!
My buddies favorite spot. Northern Italian cuisine, homemade pasta. Started with the apps, carpaccio and had the breaded shrimp. Both were nice! Moved on to the ravioli, and ragu, liked the ravioli better. Finished with a steak and affogato. The steak was not my favorite but my friend loves it! Subjective. But that affogato was the best I ever had. Prices are reasonable and the service was great. Would definitely go back! Corkage fee not bad. My wine buddy brought a nice 2015 Barolo which made it a great night! Thank you Then we headed over to Outset for Highly Suspect! Sometimes you just have a perfect night with food, service, wine & music. The end - Thank you

Where do I begin?! We saw this restaurant on Check Please, and decided to give it a try for restaurant week. Arrived on Saturday night at 8, seated right away. The place was full, and just full of life. We were greeted by our amazing waiter Manuel, who went through the menu and wine list expertly. We opted for the regular menu, starting with Plin, Gnocchi and cold Beef with an Italian Tuna salad. Plin, melts in your mouth! The Gnocchi were heavenly, and the Beef was tasty, We also had a nice reasonable bottle of red wine and Negroni Spritzers. For the main course we had the Risotto special and Suckling Porchetta. Both were amazing. I loved the Crispy Pork with spicy Sausage, and Risotto with fresh Tomato and Bacon. For Dessert we had the Panna Cota and Marshmallow dipped in Chocolate. This was one the best meals I have had, start to finish. The service was impeccable. Manuel is awesome! read more
Yum yum yyuuummmm!!! This cozy Italian restaurant in Logan Square is perfect for a date night out! My husband and I checked it out for Chicago Restaurant week and had absolutely ZERO regrets. Unfortunately, I was so hungry and blown away by the food that I forgot to take pictures! But I did manage a picture of dessert - a chocolate torte with ice cream. So yum! Our waiter was also super knowledgeable about the wine list and helped us pick a perfect wine to go with our meal! You better believe we will be back soon! read more

Great Place! Went last Saturday and they were full but not packed. Inside it's actually bigger than it looks with a nice bar, tables towards the back and a communal table up front in the big picture window! First things first.. The Wine List is great/ think the owner is a wine broker so it's very well done. The food is excellent, all the antipasti we had were good and for secondi def try the NY Strip! So good// owner on hand and came over to chat about his new venture & wine.. Highly recommend! Get dat did read more

I was looking to try this place out forever....well since they open 12 days ago. :) We made a reservation for 6:15 this pass Sunday and they are very good at confirming. I received two voice mails and another follow up phone call and text after I confirmed. We thought that was little funny and knew there was no way we could not make it now. We drove and the nice part is it's pretty easy to find parking. Added bonus was since it was Sunday the parking was free. When we arrived we were seated right away. Only one in my party of 3 drank, but she said the bartender did a really good job of helping her decide what to get and mixing the drinks. The owner of the restaurant was a sweetheart. He came over to explain the theme and to tell us about what part of Italy the food is inspired from. The menu is in all Italian, so it was nice he gave us a round down on all the food items. We absolutely loved all the food we ordered. We started with an appetizer of the Polipo (which is Octopus). I am a fan! For my main meal I had the Tagliatta which is steak with fried asparagus. Check out my pic because this was delicious! My friends shared a salad and had the risotto, which was also good they said. The portions are on the smaller side, so we definitely saved room for dessert. We tried 3 of the 4 desserts listed on the menu. We had the Semi Freddo (sort of like an ice cream cookie), Cioccolato (chocolate cake with ice cream), and the Nocciloa (Hazel Nut cake). We shared everything. I'm sad to say the dessert was a let down for me. I found the hazel nut cake (one I ordered) to be on the dry side. In all fairness I'm not a huge fan of chocolate and definitely not dark chocolate, so I didn't like that at all. All in all our experience was good and we plan on going back to try more items on the menu. Excellent service, Gracious owner, and flavorful food. read more
Great dinner at Osteria Langhe! Had Friday night reservations and were lucky enough to get one of the tables on their front sidewalk patio. The atmosphere was intimate and relaxed. Our server was attentive and friendly. Rather than ordering entrees, we decided to get a couple of plates to share between the two of us. Polipo--octopus on a potato and frisee salad. Delicious and light, but also decent sized appetizer Gnocchi--very good with a hint of spice. The lamb was very good and the rabiola melted perfectly. Tajarin--hands down our favorite dish of the night. Yes the concept is just your basic noodles with meat sauce, but it is done so well! The pasta is SO fresh and the ragu is fantastic. Crespella--a crepe filled with veggies and a spicy leek sauce. Really tasty meatless option even if you aren't a vegetarian. We found this to be the perfect amount of food for 2 people. It left enough room for dessert without still feeling hungry. read more

Lovely small restaurant in Logan square. Could use a little more decor on the walls in the back area. The staff is super nice and the owner makes you feel special coming to each table. The food was good but I won't be running back anytime soon for seconds, especially since I do not leave near Logan square. The food itself could use more flavor and bigger plating, small entrees. Started off with the octopus which was screaming "need salt now." I don't think we even finished it between three people. The artichoke and sunchoke flan was the most unappealing dish I've seen in awhile but it was definitely a stand out dish in terms of flavor. Delicious. The rabbit was perfectly cooked considering how lean rabbit is, the meat was juicy wrapped and seared in bacon. Lovely dish. The seabass was a tiny portion but lacked flavor. The vegetable underneath was delicious. But really nothing special about the dish, skip it. For dessert, we ordered the panna cotta. One of the best I've had. Almost licked the plate. Overall, the prices are reasonable. Without alcohol, 3 apps 2 entrees and 1 dessert cost $80 for three people. We were not stuffed but we were not hungry either. read more
The star of our evening was the coniglio, a prosciutto wrapped wrapped with cheesy polenta and truffles. It was hearty with amazing flavors and just absolutely delicious. My friend ordered a white truffle pasta special, which mostly tasted like butter to me, although she found the flavors "delicate" and was quite pleased. For dinner we finished with the semolinas- s'mores doughnuts, essentially. Unfortunately, we are the first several just after they came out, before the fried inside had really set, so they just tasted like very wet dough. On our second rough of bites, they had set up enough that they had a much nicer consistency, although I still couldn't really taste the marshmallow. Service left a little something to be desired. We had to flag down our waiter to order dinner (admittedly, we found out our waiter had changed during that time). We faced a similar problem, although for less time, with ordering dessert. Honestly, the atmosphere is very nice and the rabbit was FANTASTIC. But I'd rather go back to sister restaurant Animale, which offers some of the same standouts (such as the plin) at cheaper prices. read more

Reasonably priced, trendy, delicious Italian food! Came for a bday dinner and was pleasantly surprised with what I found. We ordered 4 appetizers and 4 entrees for 4 people and had PLENTY of food. All affordable as well. Our waiter did a great job of suggesting wines and food. He definitely led us in the right direction. Everything was amazing and each plate had a specific flavor target. Appetizers: Pomzanella - great fresh salad to start with Polipo - AMAZING! the flavors of the octopus mixed with the blood orange ranch are heavenly Plin**** - mini ravioli pillows filled with the most amazing mix of flavors MUST ORDER! Gnocchi - the blend of flavors between the gnocchi and the lamb sausage work very well together. my least favorite of the appetizers, but it had some heavy competition Secondi: Tajarin - delicious pasta with meat sauce Risotto - no matter what the daily special is GET IT! Our tomato based risotto was amazing, and I've heard many of the other risotto offers are as well. Coniglio** - not as salty as I was expecting from looking at the ingredients and I was pleasantly surprised by that. MUST ORDER Anatra - not sure where the recent duck obsession has come from, but I'm not complaining! the melt in your mouth duck plus beans and carrots is very warm and delicious. the orange flavoring added to the dish was a little overpowering. I recommend treating the menu as a "shared dish" menu! Order a couple things for everyone to try! The portion sizes are big enough to perfectly split between 4-5 people read more

Really different Italian food. I loved that it focuses on one specific area (one that ive never heard of!) The service was definitely spotty. Would not be going for the service, but it is small and the atmosphere is nice/relaxed with outside seating as well. Antipasti - lamb and fig ravioli: Loved this. Really different flavors - truffle pasta: my absolute favorite. paper thin spaghetti. just perfect. real truffles on top (not just the fake oil). We added the sunny side egg. Great touch -cheese raviloli:Really good. JUst like buttered noodles, but probably the least "special" even though they are know for it because of the simpleness - mussels and frites: bomb.com. Perfect. Amazing sauce. Ask for break *** all pasta are handmade which makes ALL the difference!!!!* Secondi: -- halibut: good, but i thought the others were better. everyone at my table loved though. -- meat ragu: also really good, but i thought some of the other pastas stood out more --duck: this was my favorite entree hands down. If you got all the components in one bite it was an explosion in your mouth of deliciousness. read more

Osteria Langhe is a phenomenal Northern Italian restaurant that recently opened in May 2014. Located in the southern area of Logan Square, it brings a great fine dining experience with a true Italian menu. Osteria is located just west of California off of Armitage. Osteria is definitely a fine dining experience with only the best ingredients used on their menu. The menu is based of the Piemonte region of Italy. They have outdoor seating for about 10. They also have indoor seating with low lighting provided by candlelight. They have a seasonal menu that changes daily based on what is best made available to the chef. They only seek out the best ingredients and you will be able to tell when you are presented with your dishes. The staff is very kind and knowledgeable of not only the menu but of the drink menu. They will provide suggestions on how to build your meal as well as the drinks that you may like. Outdoor tables are covered with a brown paper material and you are presented with either tap water or sparkling water. Traditional Italian bread sticks are given and the service is attentive to refilling water and clearing plates. I had the polipo which was grilled octopus with tomatoes and greens. It was phenomenal. I have only had octopus one other time that was nearly this good and it is something that you cannot pass on. The waitress suggested that I have the paloma with my meal and it was quite tasty. A tequila based drink with grapefruit juice and a salted rim. I had the coniglio for my main course which was rabbit, pork stomach, roasted peppers and potatoes. The first two items might not sound the most appealing but I can tell you it was some of the best pieces of meat I've ever had. Finally, for dessert we had semi freddo which is an Italian cherry parfait and even that was phenomenal, as I'm not really a dessert kind of guy. All in all, Osteria brings a great dining experience to an area that semi lacks in fine dining options. If you are looking for a truly authentic dining experience for perhaps a romantic night out you won't go wrong with coming to Osteria. read more

I had been wanting to check out Osteria Langhe for quite a while. When it was on a list of possible spots, presented by a couple of gals that I volunteer with, I pushed for this place. The wine list was overwhelming to someone who knows almost zero about Italian wines, and the three of us had differing ideas about what we wanted. The gentleman waiting on us was extremely knowledgeable, and ended up recommending a bottle of red that satisfied all of our tastes. We shared the polipo - I always get octopus when it's on the menu. And I could have eaten 10 more bowls of the plin (ravioli). Osteria Langhe, you'll be seeing me again soon. Your atmosphere is so romantic and cozy, and I need to test out more of those wines. read more

This was a perfect spot for a date night! We sat outside under the tree and enjoyed the comfortable weather. The staff couldn't have been nicer! Our server was sweet as can be and helpful with the menu. Funnest tip: All night on Monday is happy hour. My husband and I split the Vitello Tonnato, Rissoto, Coniglio and topped it off with the Bombolini! Everything was so delicious!!! My personal favorite was the Rissoto. It was creamy and mushroomy and it was perfect for the cooler end of summer weather! read more

Plin: 2/5 Nothing special in my opinion Carciofi: 3/5 The fonduta, truffles, and egg were delicious and creamy, but the artichoke flan was a little unpleasant. I think it had to do with the ratio of flan to the rest of the dish - less flan and more fonduta/ truffles/ egg would be better. Too much artichoke can get overwhelming. Veggie crepes: 4/5 A very unique dish if you want to venture outside the normal pasta route. Good if you like spicy food. The portion is really huge, so maybe don't get appetizers if you want to finish this. I had to get a to-go box. Flourless chocolate cake dessert: 5/5 This was the best part of the meal - I have a feeling all of their desserts are really amazing. It was like eating a cake made of brownie batter, but not in a disgusting way. read more

We got 6 different dishes from this place while we were dining in, The pane, Vitello Tonnato, Farfelle, Panna Cotta, and the affogato. The pane had a lot to be desired the crust fell off from the bread like a quick eject button the was crumbly and you couldn't enjoy the citrus butter with the bread and everything intact. The Vitello tonnato was amazing the meat was cooked to perfection the tuna was savory and the crispy egg was good!, the farfelle was not crazy good the pasta texture was different from what I expected but the sauce did most of the work, then going to the main course, fish crispy skin and tender meat the tomatoes were a winning combo we now get to the Panna cotta and affogato, if you are going desserts definitely stick with the panna cotta, the affogato left a lot to be desired probably because the flavors were great, the time with it was way short overall pretty solid meal pretty solid food! read more

This place is great. This was my second visit to Osteria Langhe. The pastas have amazing textures and sauces, the meat dishes are cooked to perfection, and the desserts are unique and satisfying. I also love the Barbaresco by the glass. I loved all the dishes of the night, but if I had to choose, the gnocchi with crispy lamb belly slightly had the edge. The service was also outstanding. Eat here now! You won't be sorry! read more
Ventured to Logan Square to check this place out the other wknd. It was great! The plin was by far my favorite dish and I'd also highly recommend the cauliflower. The owner stopped by our table a few times to answer questions about the menu and share his favorites. He was really welcoming and passionate and that showed in every aspect of the restaurant. Can't wait to go back! read more

The carne cruda is an excellent grind of raw piemontese beef, cured egg, served with a crusty bread. Very flavorful and rich. Coniglio is prosciutto wrapped rabbit loin. I have never had rabbit this moist before. I am told the rabbit is prepared confit style, cooked very quickly to retain the juices. Absolutely to die for. Tender, flavorful, a little bit of crispiness from the prosciutto. The house made noodles are good, but it's a hard act to follow prosciutto wrapped rabbit. The portions are a little small, expect to spend about $100 for two people to be comfortably full and have a few drinks. read more
