Emeley, our server provided us with extra care and attention because she is a sweet and an interesting person to talk to. She is such a pro. George brought me an amazing drink called a Palomita. I truly needed this because I was extremely thirsty and hot. He was so attentive. Emeley even surprised me with a delicious Lava cake dessert with homemade ice cream. We loved the smoked salmon on a croissant. I also had a couple of other meals there and everything was excellent. The shrimp tortilla soup was perfectly made and so tasty. Edward at the hotel was kind enough to help me try and find something out of my car. He went above and beyond to make sure that we were both having a great time on my special day. The Gulf Coast Fish and Chips was my highlight. The flounder lacked seasoning, but the balanced coleslaw and old bay fries were the #flavorsavior. The hush puppies were a classic Gulf Coast touch. I would give 10 stars if I could! The customer service, atmosphere, attention to detail, and the overall quality of the food was unlike any other. The chefs know exactly what they are doing here and are passionate about the food they serve and it shows. The handcrafted cocktails were also something to write home about! I had the "Pinch of Salt" and it was delicious! Front and back of house all worked in harmony and it was a elevated and memorable dining experience. I wish I took a picture of the salmon with the unique hand crafted sauce the chef made with two different kinds of caviar, AMAZING! We ordered fish and chips to share as they were recommend . 3 pieces of Fish were provided but over cooked but we were hungry so we ate them anyway. Fries were inedible ... a mix bag of ok but most were hard and cold so we had to send back. Ordered red fish tacos but not impressed with flavor... fish and chip meal discounted by $5. This is a spot that was exactly what we were looking for... it was the best restaurant we've been at since we left Paris in 2020 just 4 days before the airports shut down. But I digress... First off, the staff is spectacular. Attentive without being annoying. Knowledgeable without being aloof. And, hey, our waiter plays trombone just like me! What more can you ask for. We started out with drinks and both got the violet vesper. It was both strong and smooth. Peftect! And the color... wow.' I had the Fruits de Mer pasta. The seafood in it was so fresh and tasty. The Beloved had applewood roasted salmon. And she at the skin. SHE ATE THE SKIN. She NEVER eats the skin. It was that good. Our waiter asked how well she'd like it cooked. We never get asked that. Excellent! We had great talk with both our server and the manager. They've been going thru some rough times with Covid, but the thing that struck me was the way they have looked out for each other. Wow! A co worker picked this spot out during a work trip. We didn't know it was Fiesta week, made it even better! The Ostra is part of a gorgeous hotel, and also incredibly clean restroom. We sat outside along the river, seats and tables looked new and were comfortable. Service was quick, given water immediately, the waiter was attentive, zero issues with service. We got a half dozen oysters and tuna tartar to start. The oysters came with a house made hot sauce, horseradish, and minuet, very classy set dish arrangement and not very briny. The tuna tartar came out on sliced toaster focaccia bread garnished with watercress. Delicious and perfect to share. The show stoppers were our mains. I got the scallops, which were perfectly pan fried over spicy Thai peanut noodles and garnished with slides radish. The other dish was the salmon, the skin was crisp but still cooked to medium. Presentation was impeccable. Completely beautiful restaurant, great service, and amazing food. The cocktails were has as refreshing. Worth the stop! read more

Had brunch and a terrible experience, waitress took our app order and served us water. We waited 15 minutes and my husband got up to ask if we could get some service, waited 5 more minutes and the waitress came out and said she was waiting for our appetizer to come out. She asked if we were ready to order and we ordered a mimosa and a beer and she left. 5 minutes later she returned with our drinks and said they are on the house and took our order. Our food came out promptly but my American breakfast was tasteless, potatoes and bacon were way overcooked and tasteless, bacon was swimming in grease, eggs were fluffy and sourdough toast was good so I basically ate eggs and toast. Ostra's impressed me with their service and two of their three entrees, enough for me to want to return again to try more of their menu. This restaurant is attached to the Mokara Hotel, and is accordingly upscale in tone and price point. There's a marvelously picturesque outside dining area, which you can reach either via the hotel or by descending to the Riverwalk area from the Navarro Street bridge. Great spot to people-watch in the summer. The menu is based on seafood - in fact, I'm pretty sure the restaurant's name is Latin for 'oysters' - and they do a good job of it. The server, Isidro, was exceptionally knowledgeable about the dishes, another plus. Ironically, one of the items we came in for, the oyster po' boy, was only so-so. The house-made bread is excellent, but the interior lacked enough oysters to make it top-notch. On the other hand, they've done some major upgrades (based on earlier reviews) to the seafood gumbo. The bowl I had was chock full of fish and okra, with a rich taste I've only had in Nawlin's until now. Instead of just tasting salt, I got a nice mix of flavors and just enough heat to make it interesting. The other standout was a kale salad - and this was good enough to make a confirmed kale-hater enjoy it and ask for seconds. Someone studied kitchen chemistry enough to balance out the bitter kale with a balsamic vinegar, then soften both with feta cheese. Top off the 'meaty' greens with sweetness from dried cherries, apricots, and the odd walnut and you have something that's amazing on the palate! Definitely worth the time to come out to the North Reach of the Riverwalk to try this place. This place scores a 5 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Would be OK being seen eating here by Mother Mary. 3 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Joseph good. We arrived too late for brunch, but enjoyed our lunch very much. My husband had the fish tacos (after a fellow hotel guest recommended them to us) and they were awesome! My fish and chips was also incredible! The morsels of flounder were fried in a delicate coating and tasted to me like the fresh lake perch I've eaten in Michigan! And everyone at this establishment was friendly and easy to talk to--very nice! I sat a the bar and the menu seemed a bit pricey--so I did something different. I had the shrimp cocktail (very nice) and the burger. I think the burger was $25 and again it's pricey; however, if you want a gourmet quality burger...this is the one you want. The burger was cooked perfectly--it was juicy, tasty..... If for no other reason, the next time I go to the Riverwalk--I'll be stopping in Ostra just because of the great customer service! My family was visiting San Antonio riverwalk, and we really didn't know where to dine. While we were walking along the river, Ostra caught our eyes, and we were able to be seated right away. We sat out on their patio (a good place to people watch) - although it was a hot humid day, with the shade and everything, it was manageable. We ordered one dozen of oysters and fruits de mer pasta. When we got our food, we were pleasantly surprised at how fresh and good the oysters were! So delicious. I could eat at least one more dozen by myself. My child who didn't order anything because he wasn't hungry, ate half of fruits de mer pasta because it was very good. Price is on the higher side, but so does everywhere else on the riverwalk. I would definitely visit Ostra again when I get a chance. read more

We were walking on the Riverwalk and were looking for something not too heavy before doing more exploring. We found Ostra and we were not disappointed. We were sat right away outside on the Riverwalk. It was such a pretty area. I ordered the Mariposa cocktail and the lobster roll with a side Caesar salad. My husband ordered a beer and the street style fish tacos. The drinks came out right away and the Mariposa was presented beautifully, very tasteful, and refreshing! The food came out not too long after and was also beautifully presented. The lobster roll was so delicious, the bread was so soft and buttery and it tasted so fresh! My husband said the street style fish tacos were amazing and probably the freshest fish taco he has had in awhile. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The prices were a little high for lunch, but the portion size and the quality was way worth it. Absolutely phenomenal. We ran late for our reservation so they called to make sure we still wanted it, which I truly appreciated. Someone in our party has significant food allergies so we ask what would be available for her - they were very accommodating and spoke with the chef and made sure she had something to enjoy. They were very helpful in deciding what to eat, when we were sure, our waiter was knowledgeable of the specials the chef had for the day and recommended those. We truly enjoyed and went back for breakfast the next morning. Again, all the flavors were amazing. Seafood is fresh, everything has wonderful flavor without the need for over seasoning. Drinks are fun and fresh. Staff friendly and accommodating. Pricy but well worth the experience. Update: couldn't stay away! The river walk area was very busy on this Friday night and expected a long wait. We were greeted by the manager at the hostess stand and was seated right away. Service was great! After being seated we were served warm bread an whipped butter. Probably the best bread I have had in a long time. We had the Filet Mignon, which was cooked exactly as we requested and the Grouper. We made reservations for dinner here while we stayed on the Riverwalk. We ate here 4 years ago and it's still fabulous! For a starter we got the gulf oysters(they could have been my meal!). My husband got the lobster bisque and the sea scallops. He did say they were a tad salty. I got the salmon and it was so delicious. We each got dirty martinis(very generously poured). We had the most wonderful time! Amazing family style service where you really feel like you fit in. The food was decadent and just right. We tried to go to other restaurants and yet kept coming back here. This is a diamond in the ruff as they say. Highly highly recommend. The director, Jorge Paris, was one of the kindest people we have met on our trip. He really showed interest in us and made sure we were taken care of. Had a wonderful dinner on Sunday, 12/1/24. I've worked in customer service for over 27 years and have a high standard when going to a new business. I was super impressed and not only did I enjoy the food and care by the chef, the waiters and other staff at the restaurant, I also noticed many smiling faces as we went from the restaurant to the hallways and through the elevator to get to the front desk. What a great feeling to see the happy demeanor of everyone! To me, the vibes people give out are louder than their words ir actions. I give the restaurant and the hotel 5 stars all around!
