I've heard about this chain and it didn't disappoint as far as the taste and quality of the food. However, the food was a bit more pricey than I expected for a place like this. It did have a good price for cocktails which was nice though! The espresso martini was great, however the beans were a bit chewy. I switched to an old fashioned made with Buffalo Trace and it was delicious though. Service was kinda spotty with my waiter disappearing quite a bit. Maybe they see a table with one diner and think they're not going to get a decent tip. I had to ask another server for something at one point which should never be the case. The food was good though. It was hard to decide and since I was on a budget with a work expense, I had to choose wisely and put the booze on a separate tab. The salad was good and fresh and their cajun French dressing was bad. I switched to ranch and was able to enjoy it. The Catfish dish was delicious and came with shrimp, lump crab and oysters. Nice portion size and I was mostly satisfied. The sauce was pretty good for being outside of Louisiana, but still not "authentic". Is anywhere outside of LA great though? Luckily, it was walking distance from my hotel so easy to get to from there. It's on a "frontal" road so you may be driving in circles if you venture here on your own. I'd probably see what else San Antonio has to offer if I return to the area though as it didn't blow me away. read more

I had a very disappointing experience at Pappadeaux today. During my meal, I found what appeared to be a human fingernail in my dish. When I brought it to the manager's attention, I was told it was a fish scale. Unfortunately, that explanation did not match what I saw. Fish scales are typically thin, flexible, translucent, and often irregular in shape. What was in my food was hard, opaque, curved, and looked very much like long fingernail. The difference was obvious enough that I did not find the manager's explanation credible. Finding any foreign object in food is concerning, but what made the experience worse was feeling that my concern was dismissed rather than taken seriously. Customers deserve honesty, accountability, and proper food safety standards. I am sharing this review so other customers are aware and can make informed decisions. I hope management takes food safety and customer concerns more seriously in the future. read more

I came here for my birthday on Friday evening. I had reservations and waited about 15 minutes to get in. We looked up the menu and saw a few of our favorites missing but thought maybe it was a mistake. But no... no mistake... they have removed the Jumbo Shrimp and grits from the menu!!!! what kind of cajun restaurant worth their salt doesnt serve shrimp and grits? the kind that is commerical. Oh the saddness. It's lent, its my birthday... and i cant enjoy even the dirty rice bc that has meat and pork products apparently. . so thats out. i ordered blackened fish but since I cant have dirty rice i got a side salad instead - for an extra charge of course- sans bacon (that should make up the extra charge imho) the side salad was the star of the show bc the blackened fish was so salty i couldnt even finish it. gained 2 lbs on the scale from the salt. but the best thing i ate: crab and spinach dip appetizer. I've been coming to this particular Pappadeaux's since at least 2006. Tonight was a horrible experience. I sat at the bar and even though the staff put a smile on their face, they were extremely unattended and unkind. They acted like it was a chore to be there. I never asked for anything and never complained. Sat down at the bar and was never spoken to until 22 minutes later. I had to ask for bread service... The bread came and was cold and stale. So hard and crusty you couldn't even eat it. The salmon that I got had great flavor but also was cold. The turtle brownie that I got was so cold it was frozen. The weight staff was not helpful resolving any of the issues. It took over two hours to complete my meal and get Bill out! As far as ambience it was a typical Pappadeaux's. We enjoyed a wonderful birthday dinner at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen. The waiter (can't remember the name) was very attentive and gave excellent recommendations. He was very efficient and checked with us throughout the meal, my spouse was celebrating his birthday and chose to eat seafood and was not disappointed at all. He started with the roasted oysters which he stated was his favorite. We each had the pappadeaux house salad with creamy (sweet) dressing and house made croutons. I had a broiled seafood of fish, shrimp, extra shrimp to substitute for oysters, loose crab and dirty rice. Spouse had fried platter of catfish, oysters, shrimp, stuffed shrimp and stuffed crab. Waiter provided us with a birthday gift of free brownie to go. We were so full and saved the sweet treat for another night. Dress code is relaxed and comfortable but not beach wear or sloppy dress. We started with fried Calamari & Octopus and we order some greens Caesar Salad with Blackened Salmon was incredible, the salmon was perfectly seasoned, tender, and packed with flavor. The Wild-Caught Red Snapper with Jumbo Crab was another standout, super fresh and full of delicious flavors, clean seafood quality. And the Pasta Mardi Gras was absolutely delicious. A family favorite for the last two decades from what I can recall. For a Sunday lunch time, highly recommend to make a reservation. We were able to be seated quickly for our party of 9, but it did look like there were quite a few waiting for a table. Upon entering, we were generously greeted with a smile and brought to our table. We ordered to start the calamari and gator bites to share. The kids loved the gator bites as it was quite tasty! They have a lunch menu that is served daily during lunch hours and the portions were plentiful. If you are really hungry, the dinner portions were available and I can only imagine how much more the portions would be. The Mississippi Catfish & Shrimp Etouffee is my favorite and go-to, with the Crawfish Etouffee coming in as a close second! Lastly, we celebrated my birthday and with it came some great options from their desert menu. Parking can be a little hectic as the entry is right off the frontage road and could be held up. Birthday dinner and I have never been so this was a treat. Saturday evening at 7pm so the wait for food was over an hour. We drank and enjoyed appetizers. The grilled octopus was perfectly cooked, tender, with butter, mmmm tasted like lobster. I had redfish for the first time. It was flaky and delicious. Pros: Food is good. No question there. The atmosphere is cozy. And for service is good depending on what server you get. Some visits you get a great server and others you get a server who just doesn't want to be there. Cons:The portion sizes have definitely gone down. Not too long ago you would get a catfish that spread from edge to edge of the plate on a full bed of rice. Now you get about a 9-10 ounce piece. And maybe a cup of rice. And the price did go up a bit. And add that to one of the visits where you get a moody server and the experience is mid at best. So in summary good food. Small portions. And then there's my brother--fresh off the plane from jolly old Britain, as if he's descended from the Queen herself, sitting across from me with his posh accent, always trying to remind me he's got the better life. I swear the man can't resist a good flex. We get seated right away--fair play to the waitstaff, they've got that charm where they make you feel like royalty even if your ex just took half your savings. The vibe's classy but not too stiff, so I settle in, ready for a feast. Now, let's talk food. I went for what they called "fish and chips," but in classic Pappadeaux fashion, it's not your standard fry-up. Nope, they serve up Texas redfish Pontchartrain--and let me tell you, this wasn't your average fish. The sauce was so rich I was tempted to start a savings account just to afford another bite. The fish? Cooked to perfection. It felt like a middle finger to all the terrible decisions I've made lately (cough, divorce, cough). The lady? She went for the seafood pasta, and judging by the look on her face, she was falling in love. I'm not saying with me--let's be honest, it was probably the pasta--but either way, it was a win for Matt. Creamy, loaded with shrimp, crab, and octopus it looked like it belonged in a culinary museum. She didn't say much during the meal, which I assume is a good thing when it comes to food. And then, there's my brother. The guy orders a three-pound lobster with pasta. Who does that? I'll tell you who: someone who's always had the better life, better job, and probably a better divorce settlement, too. He made a spectacle of cracking open that beast while I sat there with my fish like some peasant from the Dark Ages. He looked at me like, "Don't you wish you could?" No, mate, I don't need a lobster to make me feel complete--but damn, did it look good. Now, I won't lie--the bill hit harder than my ex's lawyer, but the food was so amazing, I almost forgot how much my life's gone sideways lately. Drinks were flowing, and even though I was sat there with Mr. Perfect and his lobster, I had good food, good company, and maybe, just maybe, I was starting to enjoy life again. Well I must say this was a very pleasant experience. Being from New Orleans, I have a strong bias when it comes to food that claim be our cuisine outside of Louisiana. This restaurant didn't miss. It was extremely packed for a lunch, but the food was still fresh and delicious. Catfish was fried perfectly. The gumbo could have used a little salt and a darker roux but I won't complain. Service was a little off. The bar tender left the area a lot and it took a while to order. He was doing his best so I give Grace there. The drink was outstanding though. Made with a little love lol. This visit to the 410 San Antonio location was with our car club besties on the way to Luke Combs later that evening. Despite being Mother's Day weekend we were seated immediately with our reservation. Being busy doesn't stop this kitchen; every dish arrived on time and perfect. We started with sharing the Fruit de Mer platter. Raw oysters, cold boiled shrimp, and jumbo lump crab. Might as well throw in some roasted oysters and calamari to keep the party going. You're already thinking you ordered entrees after this? My blackened catfish lunch special was perfect. Delicious flaky fish with amazing Cajun spices paired with shrimp etouffee.
