With credit card perks, we were able to take advantage while staying in hotel. It's on the bottom floor of hotel so you can get to it easily. We went there for breakfast first and the staff were friendly and helpful. We ordered Cappuccino, black coffee, avocado toast with scrambled eggs, egg white omelet with ham and a fruits plate. I felt that avocado toast was bland and needed to add the salt and pepper. The omelet was good but potatoes tasted off. We really enjoyed fruits very much. Later, we went back for late lunch. Some reviewers have complained about value, but we enjoyed the prix fixe menu with starter-entree-dessert for $55, and we found it to be a great value. I was visiting from California and a business meal there with lobster and delicious top notch seafood was way more affordable than half of these dishes would cost me in San Francisco. Went here on a Monday night since we wanted to go to a seafood place since missed our other restaurant reservation. We ordered several drinks, oysters, calamari and the fish of the day, which was the surf and turf. For starters, service was excellent, I really enjoyed how attentive the servers were; however, the food was distasteful. Surf and turf (fish of the day) - 1/5, this was extremely buttery. The steak was tough despite it being medium rare, I generally love mashed potato's but the mashed potato's were extremely buttery that I could not finish it (which is never the case because I love carbs). The shrimp was the only thing that was somewhat good but there was only 3 of them, the vegetables that came with the steak was also too buttery. I could not finish the steak, took two bites and I felt like throwing it away. For $110, this was an extreme disappointment. The calamari was okay- 2/5, the calamari itself was chewy, almost rubbery, which is a texture you don't usually associate with calamari. The dip was good though, but otherwise flavor was not there. A friend ordered the ahi tuna which she also mentioned left a bad taste in her mouth. 1/5 The other two friends also had similar sentiments with their meals. For such an expensive place, our party left with disappointment. I agree with most of the bad reviews here, you're better off at a different restaurant if you're looking for good seafood. read more

This is one of the best brunch locations in all of the Riverwalk. The ingredients are fresh and they have some very unique menu pairings. For example, I got the avocado toast with smoked salmon and a poached egg on it. When my poached egg was over cooked our server happily brought a new one to me. The replacement was perfect The coffee is hot and strong. The service is superbly friendly. Yes, this location is away from the heart of the Riverwalk restaurant congestion, and it is part of the Mokara hotel. We have visited here twice, both times with reservations. While the quality of the tuna itself was pretty good, the sauce was too salty and the rice also felt a bit undercooked. I also tried a bit of the salmon dish which i thought did not have a good balance of flavor as a whole since the already sweet salmon is paired with sweet potato mash. From a fancier place like Ostra you would think they know better about creating a dish as a whole. Honestly the only reason why I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1 is because their bread and butter was sooooo good. The best bread I've ever had a restaurant I think. This restaurant is hit and miss. The bad. We had dinner and breakfast. Dinner was basically a fail. First the order came out and the steak way cooked beyond well done when medium was requested. They refired the dish and it took forever to come out. So my wife picked at her meal and gave up because it was too salty. When my second attempt arrived the potatoes were salted so heavily they were inedible. But by this time we were so tired of waiting or sending things back that we just left and ended up tossing both meals in the garbage. It was basically a waste of a meal. The Good. Breakfast was a total different experience everything was cooked exactly as requested seasoned well and absolutely delicious. Service for both experiences was wonderful but the kitchen I would say is inconsistent. If you look at other reviews there are comments the food is too salty so beware with your high blood pressure! We ate here twice because American Express included $60 a day for breakfast. First day we sat outside, which was lovely, but we did get some leaves in our food. Husband had the American breakfast with the blueberry sage sausage, which was delicious. I had the vegetarian breakfast bowl, with a perfectly runny poached egg, and delicious quinoa. Added a side of refried beans, which went great with it. The next day we were excited to try two other items we saw on the menu, but unfortunately they don't have a breakfast menu on the weekends! So we moved to San Antonio and have had several family members come and visit us here in Texas. We've been to the Riverwalk a few times and have done the boat ride and have had dinner here...and to make it interesting, we always try a new restaurant so that we can say that we've experienced a particular place on the river walk....and with my mother-in-law visiting us this time around we decided to eat at Ostros...one of the reasons why was because it looked fancy and it wasn't so crowded. So we get there and they weren't the friendliest as far as the wait staff and since San Antonio is also called Military City, I politely asked our server (who seated us) if their establishment gave a military discount because the Mexican restaurant next door gave a 50% discount, he rudely told me, "WE don't do that here." He didn't try and say it in a nice way, just very brash. So I said I'm response "Thanks, good to know." My mother-in-law was in the mood for oysters and shrimp so we stayed, but over all the food wasn't that good. Now we did order a dozen oysters on ice and they were pretty amazing, but my drink...the cucumber something tasted like crap. My husband and I ordered the cheeseburger and it was shit!!! And the calamari was just small (very teeny tiny) pieces of squid battered and fried. I've seen better calamari at low end restaurants that gave better service!!! Anyway, I also wanted to mention that the moment we sat down, our male server was super pushy as far as ordering drinks. My husband doesn't really drink alcohol and he kept insisting he get the jalapeño margarita. He ordered the un-sweetened ice tea and my mother-in-law ordered a decaf coffee. I was still undecided, and told him to come back and I needed more time. We ordered pupus or "appetizers" and my mother-in-law didn't order an entree because there was enough appetizers that were ordered and she usually doesn't eat a whole lot. So when he came back, he kind of had an attitude and asked if I had decided in a drink. I told him during our initial drink order conversation that I don't like spicy drinks and asked him if the jalapeño margarita was spicy and he gave a smart ass answer. It wasn't at all one that I would expect from a high class establishment that didn't offer w military discount. And PLEASE, don't get me wrong...I get it that it's a privilege when establishments offer a military discount, which is why I am more likely to return there with friends and family as a repeat customer...but establishments that act super stuck up and too good to give any discounts should then be giving impeccable service...which we did not get!!! So I could tell when he answered about the jalapeño margarita that he was getting irritated with me and suggested another drink, not based on my questions but based on pricing. In all honesty, he was only interested in adding things to our menu when it increased our bill, but did horribly when asked to refill our waters, or my husband's ice or even my mother-in-law's decaf coffee. I even had to bother the Filipino girl who seemed like a busser, rather than a server for a refill of drinks. Both my husband and I order the cheeseburger, and he had an unsweetened ice tea, my mother-in-law shared with us the following: 1 dozen oysters on the half shel, cocktail shrimp and calamari. She also had a decaf coffee and we ordered waters all around. With this our bill was around $135. Over all experience, I would give this place is ONE STAR, and that's only because the oysters were good. If you look at the last photo we took, the shitty calamari was left on the table and he didn't even ask if we wanted it packed. Now even though I have this place ONE STAR for this place, I'm not a cold hearted a$$ ho73, and I still tipped the guy 15%. We stayed at Mokara for a few days in December and decided to eat there for brunch. Im so glad we did! The location is wonderful, right on the river. It was cold so we ate inside but on a warmer day, I'm dining al fresco! I loved watching the boats cruise by. The food was wonderful! My mother ordered the shrimp and grits. She loved them. She is from Texas and a black granny. If she loved them then they must be flat out scrumptious! I ordered breakfast tacos and they were quite tasty. The portion was Texas sized or maybe I'm just too LA for the plate, but there was a lot of food. I didn't eat the beans and rice because again LA, but my mom said they were good. The best part? Drinks! I had an excellent Bloody Mary. It had bacon! And then I got a speciality martini and a French martini. I am super picky about my French Martini and this was top notch. A few days prior, the restaurant contacted us to let us know not to show up too early, as they didn't have enough waiting area to accommodate social distancing. The hotel is on the River level of the Mokara Hotel. We entered the hotel at street level and the hotel staff instructed us to take the elevator down one level. We were seated right away. There were plenty of tables inside and out. We got an inside window table, so had a great view of the Riverwalk and the Omni Hotel. Since it was Thanksgiving, there was a $65 per person three course prix fixe menu. My wife got butternut squash soup, a filet, and pumpkin pie. I got raw oysters, turkey, and cheesecake.
