Great all around Customer Service I called for an appointment and spoke with Carla, was asked for my information and was good to go from there. As soon as I walked through the door was greeted and asked if I needed assistance. They walked me through exam process and were helpful in explaining the details. Moving on to picking out my glasses. Giovanni was a great help, we looked at some frames but they didn't really suit me. He found a pair that he though I would like ordered them in to see if I would. Well he was spot on they look and feel great and I can now see clearly once again. I don't write to many reviews however, there are those exceptions to give credit where due. Hands down the best selection of eyeglasses around! I live in North Park and was glad I made the drive down to Otay Ranch. The staff is really helpful, friendly and patient! I don't even know how many pairs I tried on before I decided on a pair of Chanels! They didn't rush me, and gave me their honest opinion on what shape looked best on me(and it was not the most expensive pair). I get so many compliments on my glasses now! My husband I and love this place! Everyone is so nice and helpful! They can get busy though...especially on the weekends. Exams are appt only. If you are picking up glasses try to go during off hours. I do wish they had more selection of high-end brands, but they carry a few of the big names: Chanel, Cartier, Tiffany. They used to have Bvlgari and Gucci (which I loved!). But if they carry a brand you like and see some frames elsewhere, get the style number and they will order the frames for you. The two of us drop some serious money at the end of the year because we try to use up our FSA cash and since we are both pretty healthy (and no kiddos yet) we blow a couple grand in there. read more

I needed to make an emergency eye appointment and the folks at Eyeworks were willing to squeeze me in for a walk-in despite having appointments only on a Saturday. They were very helpful and personable. Dr. King checked my eyes for me and she was very friendly. I really appreciated their help. Their building is also very classy and their selection of frames are very stylish. I ended up picking some Juicy Couture frames and I get compliments about them all the time! I went in there to get glasses, and the staff was pretty snooty. I'm in sales and I know shady when I see it. the whole establishment was SHADY. I am alittle particular with my frames because I need to be professional. I just cant have any cookie cutter frame like you get at Lenscrafters either. I was very upfront and just told them I'm looking for just the right frame for me and this is the first place I stopped in, but upfront that I am looking around. They proceeded to almost be "desperate" in trying to sell me something i didnt want. They obviously did not want me to go elsewhere. I was not comfortable in their desperate nature and pushy sales tactics. So I started to walk, and could hear one of the employees talk smack about me to another employee even before I stepped out of the place! unbelievable!!! Just imagine what they think of every one of their customers! I went to another local place, and found the frame I wanted and liked, and staff that appreciated their customers without being pushy used car salespeople like they are at Otay Ranch Eyeworks...... never again will i step in here. read more

Be aware this place double charge. They bill the insurance for a service I nerve received and know 8 months later they are trying to charge me for the same service. The girls are the front did not how to explain the bill, the manger never came out to talk to me. Terrible customer service& prices too! Paid $140 for contact fitting and eye exam and can go to vision center in walmart where the people are nicer and care about you too, for $90. For contact fittings only allowed two visits with trial contacts and if you don't find them in that time you have to pay $25 more per visit. Whereas walmart and every other establishment i have been to allow as many visit and trials within 3 months. I wasted my money and time there and got nothing from these people because i wasn't able to find the contacts i wanted to order. Dr. King wouldn't even talk to me on the phone. Shes rude and doesn't care about her patients only money. Who wants to go to a doctor that is rude and ripping people off. Go to walmart your wayyyyyyy better off, I promise! read more

I accidentally went in yesterday for an appointment only to find out (my mistake) the appointment was for today. They offered to squeeze me in anyways even though it was the end of the day for them. This review is just the facts. You can make up your own opinion. Pros: Easier to get an appointment than Costco and Wallmart (which I've been to both) Optometrist was quite competent and thorough and my prescription was spot on accurate The 5 Dailies they sent home with me worked great and I loved them Staff was pleasant and nice Cons: You will leave this store with no prescription after your exam. The procedures for getting a prescription and payment are unlike anywhere I have been and are surprising and disappointing at best and a scam and false advertising at worst. They charge more than they initially say and I still don't have my prescription. You are REQUIRED to get a follow-up appointment before getting a prescription, which they don't tell you until after the exam. You CAN'T leave with a prescription like you can every other place I've been such as Costco and Wallmart. This office procedure is completely unexpected and it did not enter my mind to make sure I would actually leave with a prescription before agreeing to pay more than I normally do at Costco and Wallmart. More info if you want it: I told them I want an eye exam for a contact lens fitting and they tell me it is $75 and I say "great!" Then several minutes later as I'm about to get examined they tell me it's an undetermined range of another amount more for a contact lens fitting, TBD after the exam. But I had already told them contact lens is what I was wanting to purchase. Now the price ended up being $160. I paid. I asked for my prescription and then they told me "oh no, you can't get that until you return for a follow-up appointment." Guys, time is money and this is an extra step that no other optometrist office has required. Also, they said it would be an additional $20 but again, I was only told this after the exam. Being a determined person I responded via email to their call to me reminding me to get a follow-up appointment. I told them I'd be in sometime Fri or Sat. for what I hoped was a quick follow-up appointment to actually get my prescription. I didn't hear back from them so I popped in Fri. night and they were willing to take my $20 at the desk and give me the Dailies they had ordered to make up a month supply (I was sent home with only 5), but said I can't get the prescription until the Dr. sees me. I state that I am finding the Dailies work great, and I am willing to pay another $20 to get the prescription but they say I can pay to get the rest of the month supply of Dailies but I can't get the prescription without another exam to confirm the Dailies work. But I had already proven I have 20/20 vision with the Dailies at my exam before I left the first time. It makes no sense. Time is money and next time, that convenient online vision test I saw will be tempting even though I know it isn't as good, just so I don't get jerked around. Or yes, maybe just take the extra time to get in at Costco or Walmart. I thought I would be moving up in customer service if I left the discount places, but it's just the opposite. Nothing will change about the visit I had at their office. Great people, fast eye exam and tremendously large selection. However, when I placed my order with them they told me it would take two weeks. Little did I know it would take two weeks for my order to actually leave San Diego. I called to get an update late last week on my order since the two week estimate had passed. I was told my order wasn't updated yet and I would get a call back later the same day. Never got that call. Followed up again just yesterday and I'm told by Otay Ranch Eyeworks that my insurance lost the frames. So there would be no telling how much longer I would need to wait. So instead of staying mad at my insurance, I just call the general customer service line. When I get on the phone with my insurance and inquire about these circumstances, I'm put on hold for a little while and then I get the following troubling news.... While I went to order the frames on 4/11 Otay Ranch didn't even put in a request for the pickup by UPS until 4/18 (1 week later they decided to finally ship out the frames and the order). It takes another week for UPS to pick up the order. So my order didn't even leave San Diego until 4/25. I can't blame ORE for UPS' failure to pick up in a reasonable time, but I do place full blame on them for not putting in my order or arranging for it in the first place A WEEK LATE. And then to tell me its my insurances' fault is rather demeaning. I feel bad about this, because when I went to Otay Ranch Eyeworks their in store service was awesome. I was greeted in a friendly, courteous manner, treated professionally and got excellent customer service in the store. I left feeling confident in their ability to handle my vision needs. But that's changed now. I'm really on the fence as to whether I would ever go back once this order is complete. The ineptitude in which my order was handled is inexcusable, but it was probably the best in-store experience I've ever had in the past 17 years since I've been wearing glasses. I came yesterday for my oldest son to get his yearly exam. The atmosphere along with the staff were very friendly and welcoming. One of the workers Heidi, initially started off the exam and was extremely helpful and made it the easiest for my son to concentrate during his exam. After having the same optometrist for 35 years, I had to find a new place to take care of my eyes and glasses due to the death of my long time doc. Picked Otay Ranch Eyeworks because of their proximity to me. I have vision insurance and they accepted that insurance. I did pay more than I am accustomed to paying, presumably because their options are designer quality; but that didn't bother me as long as the service was good. And it WAS. They have a large selection of glasses. I chose to try progressive lenses and found them to be very difficult to adjust to. I really tried. I took them in for adjustments and that helped; but after a month of not being able to read and headaches to give myself a good chance of adapting to the new lenses, I knew I had to go back to bifocals. The staff was very understanding and gave no resistance to having the lenses replaced at no charge. With every visit they were friendly, careful (always checking my temperature) and knowledgeable. The eye exam was thorough and I was impressed at the new technology they had for eye exams. Probably not the cheapest place one could find, BUT when it comes to my vision, it's quality of product and professionalism of staff that are paramount to me. read more

Well to start off for whatever reason they had me under my mom's name supposedly because of our insurance. I've never been to a doctor's office that I wasn't under my own name and they said there was no way they could change it. I did really like both of the doctors I saw while coming to this office but the rest of the staff needs to get it together. I know almost all doctors offices are expensive but I feel like there's something up when the cheapest frames you can get are ray bans. So after spending almost 200$ on my glasses and contact exams as well as my frames, I am told I have to come back for a follow up to make sure my contacts are working out for me. Once again this is something I've never had to do before. So after going to my second follow up appointment because the first pair of contacts they recommended(and of course the most expensive) didn't work out, I was told that I was good to go and didnt have anything to pay. Almost 8 months later they send me a bill for $20 because I supposedly didn't paid for an appointment they never told me I owed money for. Before I had gotten that letter I decided I wasnt going to go back and now I have to deal with them again. read more
