I feel terrible I didn't ask for any of the ladies names but the two ladies that helped us were so sweet and accommodating to my family. My three kids had a pre exam prior to meeting with Dr. Elias and the young lady was so kind and patient with my kids. Dr. Elias was very clear about his opinion on what my children needed and he did an amazing job with them! We ended up picking out a pair of glasses for my daughter and we loved them! My review is based solely off my experience of purchasing optical frames. I was on the hunt for a pair of Chanel frames since I've always wanted a pair. I haven't bought myself a new pair of frames in almost 5 years and I thought given the longevity of my current pair... I could afford to splurge a little. There are very few authorized Chanel vendors and I found this one through Yelp!. Given the reviews I was not expecting much in the sense of customer service but I was pleasantly surprised. The associate who helped me, forgive me for forgetting your name, was very patient and allowed me to look at everything without getting an attitude. At one point, she did have to help a customer but she told me to help myself to anything in the cases since they open. After browsing by myself, I found two pairs that I was very interested in... and she listened to me ramble and try to make my decision so she could ring me up. In the end, I decided on the Chanel pair since that's what I've been wanting. The sales associate also very graciously quoted me on lenses based off my old prescription and the prices were pretty reasonable and sounded average compared to the 3-4 places I shopped. If I didn't end up purchasing with Kaiser and using my insurance, I probably would have came back here. read more

The staff and doctors are always extremely friendly. The office is clean and neat. It's usually empty when I've had my appointments. The doctor gave me a good recommendation for laser eye surgery, which I've been considering. They have a lot of my favorite brands of glasses but not a good variety of styles. I feel like every year when I go in, I try on the same pairs of glasses by the different designers. They charge a $45 contact lens "fitting fee"- I've been wearing contacts for 20 years, nothing is changing, not even my prescription as of late, I'm not being fitted for anything. It's not extra work for anyone. And I've never heard of it costing that amount of money for updating a prescription. The office is hit or miss returning calls. Especially if they claim they're going to ask the doctor something. They're also not the place to go if you have a tight schedule and in a jam (last pair of contacts, one ripped, but stuck wearing- never met a doctor who would recommend wearing if glasses aren't an option, but this office doesn't care). I picked the office out of convenience in location to my house but there are so many others, more highly recommended for those in demanding career fields. read more

I typically get my annual eye exams at Costco (since it was affordable for contact lens & eyeglass exam) but decided to go to Otay Ranch Eyeworks this time around. I rely on Yelp reviews and was a bit hesitant to come here, but went ahead and gave them a try since the accept my insurance. When I called 2 weeks before my appointment, the person I spoke to was friendly. I was able to get an appointment pretty quickly, which was awesome. I also made an appointment for my daughter, which the OTE was able to work both of our appointments in at the same time. Score! We did the basic eye tests and Dr. King was seeing us. She said my daughter's vision was 20/15.. which is better than the average person. I can already tell she was really honest. I've had my daughter's eyes checked in the past at another clinic and was told she needed reading glasses and wanted to prescribe something right away (at that time she was only 8). After the typical checked up on my vision (I'm blind as a bat and rely on contact lenses), the doctor asked a few questions about my contacts. I told her which brand of contacts I was wearing and she asked me if I wouldn't mind trying something new. I'm glad that she asked, because other doctors would continue to keep me on the same brand. She even advised that the new brand is less expensive and I could keep wearing the same ones for a month. She also explained the curvature of my eyes and that I probably would see much better with contacts on than glasses (although I still want glasses to wear at home). I liked the fact that she sent me home with a pair of new contacts with my new prescription to try on for a week. I will have a follow-up appointment next week and will provide an update from that appointment. But based on my recent visit, so far so good! read more

2 years ago we moved to the area and I was looking for a new optometrist. I wear both contacts and glasses. I found this company when I was driving through the area. The staff here are friendly and knowledgeable. I was able to make my first appointment easily and quickly. The optometrist on staff is wonderful. Since my initial appointment, I've also taken my two step-children and husband in for exams. Their service has also been a great experience. They also have a wonderful selection of eye glasses. This was my first eye appointment ever in San Diego as I have only been here a year and my prescription just expired. I had a tough time finding an eye doctor because I am very picky when it comes to cleanliness and an overall welcoming and bright environment. The pictures and reviews from others helped me make the decision to move forward and I am glad. I was in and out in less than an hour. This is crucial for me because I have a newborn. I came here on a Saturday morning after finding that one the nosepieces on my glasses was missing a screw. I was seen immediately even though there were several customers waiting and being seen for their glasses. Angelica was just that, angelic! She helped replace the screw with no questions asked as if I was within their insurance network. Of course I was in from out of town and definitely not in their insurance network. For about 6 months my husbands eyes had been bloodshot and dry. We tried to ignore it, but it really started to get him some strange looks from people, so we decided it might be time to go to the eye doctor. Eyeworks was recommended to us because lets be real here, most of us don't know where to begin when it comes to trusting someone to poke us in the eye. First off, its super cute in there and not at all intimidating like a doctors office. I was immediately swayed because of all the designer stuff in there. If the doctors office had Chanel and Dior every time I walked in, I may be more inclined to make a visit. The reception girls are so adorable and sooo smart. I was so surprised when it was these girls that performed all of my husbands exams before going in to the doc. They are trained quite well and young little lads, so it was a comfortable experience for my hubs. We didn't wait more than 2-3 minutes after reception got him checked in and he was off to all the fun eye charts and tests. After we got in to the see the doctor and she continued with the more intense stuff, she recommend some eye drops for the redness & dryness and we thought we were done until she informed us that she noticed he needed a slight prescription. My husband wanted to cry, almost turning 30 was hard enough, now glasses?!. I think he looks cute with them, so BONUS for me! We had a super easy time with the reception girls trying on as many as he wanted and they never made us feel rushed or annoyed that he tried so many on. They were very descriptive and informative about his new lenses, his warranties, etc. which was great because neither of us wear glasses and all of this was new to us. We were able to use our medical insurance for everything which was awesome and my husband left with an adorable pair of Ray Bans. All in all, we had a good first experience. Since then, my husband has continued to use the eye drops the doctor recommended and he hasn't had anywhere near the issues he had before & the glasses are growing on him. Great experience from beginning to end! When I first went in I was greeted by a nice young man at the front desk who was able to set me and both the kids up for an appointment on the same day! Awesome!!! When we went back the the appointment again was greeted and then we saw the tech first who was super nice and friendly. She was really kind to both of my boys and explained what she was doing. Let's be honest: no one likes going to the eye doctor, especially when you have progressively blurry vision. But, the entire staff at Eyeworks are so friendly and inviting that I felt as if I was shopping at Nordstrom rather than going in for an appointment. A friend referred me to this location and I'm so thankful that she did. They have an impressive selection of designer collections that for a girl like me, who never has enough glasses/sunglasses, was like Princess Belle walking into a library. I was able to grab my now-favorite Chanel frames for much cheaper than I would at any department store (and believe me, I looked and compared). I was helped by the same associate from start to finish, which is always greatly appreciated for an indecisive shopper as myself. And the eye exam itself went by so quickly and easily that it was over (thankfully) by the time I realized it started. Overall, I was so pleased with my entire experience here. I'd say I'd go back soon, but they may think I'm weird for getting another eye exam so quickly. No one wants to be "that" person. Then again, Belle went to the library everyday...right? read more

Okay down to the meat of this review: 1. easy to make appointments 2. Dr was good 3. got my glasses in less than 5 days 4. got my contacts THE NEXT DAY! 5. if you're looking to make friends or life long companions, this is not the place. The customer service isn't super friendly up in your face let me be your best friend - which I like. I'm just here so I can see properly. We don't need to be FB friends. I LOVE the fact that I can get all my stuff quickly and there's no pressure tactics to up sell me to some crazy expensive frame. I'll keep coming here year after year. read more

I really did not want to leave one star, but this issue needs to be corrected. First off, I will say that I am a registered nurse so I understand what it is like to work in the medical field. It frustrates me when medical staff are unpleasant, snobby, and on top of that do not do their job right. I have been to both the National City and Eastlake locations, so I have experienced both services and I want to say National City location has by far much better service compared to this one. I am giving the front desk girls staff ONE star (none if I could), which is sad because I wish I could separately give the Dr. 5 stars. Both times I visited, the girls at the front presented an unfriendly and snobby atmosphere and did not offer help to even choose new glasses frames after my new prescription. This is a shame because the National City staff (I remember Marcela, excellent service with her) were always quick to help me choose nice frames as soon as the Dr. wrote a new prescription. Next, I have insurance that covers my glasses prescription. I clarified with the girls at the front that I was within the time frame for insurance coverage (one routine check up every year and had not used it yet); they said okay that I should have NO problems and my routine check up would be covered. I come back a week later for follow up and they inform me that I have a balance to pay, how my insurance DENIED the claim and that I would have to pay out of pocket. Confused, I told them that is weird because I never had this issue before, especially since I have been to the National City location several times and they were always able to process it correctly there with no problems (I never had to pay a deductible for routine eye check which is covered under my insurance!). I simply paid out of pocket, got my prescription, and left. I call my insurance to investigate why the claim was denied, and my insurance tells me that the code service was entered WRONG by eyeworks, as a point of service code instead of as a routine code, which is why it was denied. Now my insurance had to correct the routine check up in their system, since it IS in fact covered. Okay, I said, so how do I get my money back because I paid out of pocket already. Insurance tells me to get it back from eyeworks. As of today, I am waiting to get my money back from Otay Ranch Eyeworks... no new eye glass frames from here since they did not offer help for choosing new glasses.. money, time, effort all wasted on this, all because the staff did not do their job right. Only the Dr. was excellent. Beware of the services here from the front staff. read more

I needed a contact prescription asap and Costco didn't have any openings I give them props for being able to see me right away on a Sunday, however I feel like they have you running around in circles. On Wednesday I went back for my trial pair and I believe I got a defective pair so they told me to call with my old prescription details to verify the next order. A week later I got no call back so I call them and they say they will have the doctor call me back. Another week later nobody calls me back and I ask what happened and they say the lab is taking long so they will order another pair and finally I was able to get my right contacts after 2 weeks. read more

HORRIBLE! My husband ordered a pair of eyeglasses and was told that it would take 2 to 3 weeks....fast forward 4 weeks later and he is told that the eyeglasses are no longer being made, but that they were receiving more frames from the same line. He went to the store and there are only women's frames. He has tried to get a refund twice and told that only a manager could approve the refund and that she has not been in the store. Additionally, this store is really overpriced. I suggest going in to the store to physically try on the frames, buy them on Amazon and then go to Costco to get the lenses made. read more

I would select zero stars but that is not an option. Doctors were great. Staff is terrible. I waited more than a month to get my glasses. I am actually still waiting! I am now filing a dispute with my credit card to get my money back. Of course I will have to pay out of pocket to go somewhere else for an exam, since I already used my insurance allowance on them. However I will also submit a report with my insurance, they should not be on the list of preferred vendors! Please go somewhere else and save yourself the trouble! read more

Very fast and helpful! I went in to get a new prescription for contacts. Their online patient registration worked great because I was able to fill that out at home on my own time, and didn't need to show up early to fill out the same paperwork in person. I was able to call and schedule my appointments very easily. The staff was great & very helpful with explaining exactly what my insurance covered & didn't cover. And the doctor was great, and even explained some details about my prescription that I never knew about before. My trial contacts had to be special ordered & shipped, but they came sooner than expected...the next day. They were able to squeeze me in for a follow up appointment (to try the new trial contacts) within a few days of my first appointment. read more
