Chose the steak option which came with a red wine, my dinner partner had Manhattan which she enjoyed! My steak was to be cooked medium-rare but actually was a bit tough... Realized later that my left index finger actually hurt from digging into the fork too hard...weird. It was good though but maybe would come back for the pizza or tapas options. Coming from out of town but grew up in Detroit, this was my first venture into the city for a few years. I was really impressed with the improvements to the area. The food was delicious and service was good. Pretty sure they either make their own pasta or locally source. My 5 spice old fashion was excellent. Bread is separate and was good but the garlic on it had a burnt taste. We were there on a slower Tuesday night. I would have given this place 5 stars except we wanted to try the arancini balls but they were out of them by 6pm and they had no desserts to offer. Understood the appetizer being out given the labor that goes into making arancini balls. However, there are many wonderful Italian bakeries in the metro Detroit area that could supply the restaurant with at least one or two dessert choices, if the labor isn't available to make desserts in house. read more

Very good experience. From the moment we entered to until we left, you felt safe. All staff had masks on and all tables were far apart and they asked us to wear a mask until we sat down. They even gently and politely reminded to put my mask on when I got up and forgot. If that all is necessary anymore is disputable , but it made us feel safe. More important, the food and service was outstanding. I decided on two small plates ,the garlic /goat cheese and garlic shrimp. Both were excellent. The roasted garlic with the cheese was really tasty and the goat cheese spread with the crispy cheese spread was perfect. With the shrimp came some garlic bread and there was about six large shrimp. The two small plates were a real meal. My wife had the Ragout Bollognes and loved it. Great sauce and a large portion. The Chloe Pinot Grigio was very good. Our friendly server (Margaret 225) did a perfect job bringing each dish at the proper time and warm. We'll be back. read more

My husband and I visited last night for our anniversary. We didn't bother making a reservation since we were going on a Monday before 6 pm. When we arrived the hostess asked if we wanted inside or outside (it was under 50 degrees so not sure why they'd even offer outside!). I said inside and she said the only available was a high top. This was as most of the tables were empty, although many were bigger tables. Not really wanting a high top with a backless stool, we asked how long for a regular table. She said about 25-30 minutes. We didn't really want to wait that long so finally took the high top. Before our drinks even arrived, I heard a couple arrive and ask for a table for two. Same question of inside or outside, and when they said inside the hostess brought them right over to a regular table! I am still baffled why we didn't get that table. I am fairly positive the table they were sat at was empty when we arrived, but even if it had just opened up after we were sat, I would expect the hostess to come up to us and let us know she could move us, given the fact that she knew we were bummed about sitting at the high top and hadn't been there even long enough to get our drinks. I would have expected much better service from the hostess. We both had wine, although there weren't many options in my opinion. I had the (one) Malbec offered by the glass. Both of our wines came served in thick glass cups. Call me a wine snob, but I enjoy my wine in an actual wine glass. Even my husband commented that the cups were strange. Not sure if it was the weird cup or just me not loving the wine, but I didn't even end up finishing my glass/cup. We started with a build-your-own cheese platter and the bruschetta. The bruschetta was my favorite of the night, and tasted really fresh. The cheese platter was good- my favorite accompaniment was the pear jam, my husband really liked the mustard. For our meals I had the truffle butter pasta which was excellent! I also appreciate that they don't overserve you pasta here, it's the perfect portion. I really hate when restaurants serve you pounds of pasta with your entree. My husband had the spicy penne arrabiata and really enjoyed it. I was really looking forward to dessert but none of the three options really excited me. I ended up getting the tiramisu and my husband just got a coffee. The tiramisu was good, but next time I would probably just go for a coffee. Pros: the parking lot behind the restaurant is super convenient, great ambiance, food was fantastic and portion sizes were perfect. I came here on March 19 with a group of 15. I parked behind the building in marked Ottava Via parking where there were two attendants watching the lot. Walking up I was so sweetly surprised by the beautiful patio and fireplace! I am really looking forward to dining here again when I can sit outside and enjoy it. Entering the restaurant, I thought the decor and ambiance was very nice. We were seated in front of the bar area near the main door. For a Thursday night, things appeared quite busy. My party had arrived before me but I was greeted and offered a drink as soon as I sat down. I was very pleased with the service for the entire meal. No complaints at all. (I don't think they split checks for parties of ten or more though.) Now for the food. As I said, I arrived late so I missed the appetizers. My husband had saved me an arancini and it was AMAZING, even cold. The Italian sausage and peppers was also delicious. For my meal, I had the Farmhouse chicken and it was again, wonderful. We also enjoyed the Margherita pizza. My five year old couldn't get enough of the Truffle Buttered Pasta. I loved this place. Cute Italian place! My friend and I came on a Friday night, and the place was pretty busy. We were able to put our names down, and the restaurant texted me about thirty minutes later. The interior of the restaurant is divine - very rustic and charming with an open layout. We ordered the calamari ($11), and my friend ordered the truffle butter pasta ($14) and I ordered the carbonara ($15). The calamari was lightly breaded and didn't taste as heavy as some other restaurants. One thing I have to say is that I should have ordered truffle butter pasta as well! The carbonara pasta was good, but not great. Service was great - we were well attended to but there were a few times that we had to flag our waiter down. Ottava Via is hands-down my favorite restaurant in the city. I've liked everything that I've tried off the menu, but the truffle butter pasta is absolutely to die for! The portion sizes of the pasta dishes are generous (great for sharing or a family-style dinner). The restaurant itself is charming and fairly large; there are several party rooms as well as an adorable outdoor area out back. There is a parking lot directly behind the restaurant which is great since parking in Corktown can be tough. Not quite sure what the hype is / was about Ottava Via. Here is my play by play: Came here for a late dinner on a Monday. Patio was full so my husband and I had dinner inside. The décor is okay, slightly effortless with a touch of urban influence. They have a nice bar with yellow accent lights. All tables are already set with water glasses, flatware in fabric napkins & menus, which makes the place look nice. Menu is small but has great options of building your own charcuterie plate or just getting a plate of meats or cheeses. Good small plates selection. They offer salads, sandwiches (lunch only), pasta, dinner meals, and pizza. I also need to say their service is great (really liked our server) and fast. We split the arancini small plate - it was good. Three smaller sized arancini with a perfect crispy cheesy crust. The arancini was on top of a marinara, parmesan & basil bed. My dinner was a margherita pizza and my husband opted for the ragout alla Bolognese. Pizza was good, but nothing special. Of course they used fresh mozzarella, basil and tomatoes for the pizza but it was topped with extra shredded cheese - seemed like shredded medium-consistency mozzarella. My husband wasn't a fan of his pasta dish - pappardelle noodles with a pork & veal Bolognese sauce. The best thing about his dish was it was topped with cold & creamy ricotta cheese. I think this restaurant is delicious! I've been here twice, and each time really enjoyed my meal. This time we got the Bruschetta. It's presented as grilled bread and a plate of tomatoes, sliced garlic, and basil. I liked that you could put as much of the tomato mixture of your bread. So good, but very garlicky. The Margherita pizza had good flavor. The crust was crunchy but not hard. Also, get the chopped salad, it's probably the best Italian chopped salad I've ever had. The Italian vinaigrette was very light and flavorful. We had the olive oil cake for dessert, and it didn't disappoint. It had homemade whipped cream and chocolate on top. I love this place! The appetizers are amazing and the entrees are even better. The fact that it's in an old bank makes it have a super cool feeling, and the bocce ball in the back is super fun to play while you're waiting for your food! The food was to die for!!! The appetizers were phenomenal - try the calamari. One of my sons had the special that night- a turkey leg in an amazing balsamic maple sauce that just melted in your mouth. My favorite Italian in the downtown area! The menu isn't your typical mom and pop Italian, but the food is still great. I am vegetarian and have plenty of options. I'd give more star's if I could! That's how fantastic this Restaurant is. I drove way out of my way to have an early dinner here. Great news! They have parking. Their own lot along with street parking. Safe as well. I was warmly and cheerfully greeted by Randi. What a doll. I sat at The bar and proceeded to get awesome service. The menu is not huge but lots of delicious items. My decision wasn't too hard. I started with a made to order fresh Antipasto. The little problem was what to pick out. I went with the Mozzarella and Parmesan. And Soppersetta and prosciutto. It came with house pickled peppers and a pear jam that should be illegal. Also some fresh mustard with grain. Omg! I didn't dare not finish it. It was phenomenal. So good I also ordered one to take home. I also got some butter to go with the crisp bread that comes with the platter. I was in food heaven as I devoured the entire platter. My entree was Bolognese with thick pasta. Damn I can't remember what that particular pasta is called. But it was outstanding. A small spoonful of soft cheese. I think it was ricotta. But it complimented the pasta perfectly. I couldn't eat the last bite as I was about to die of a food coma at that point.. I did want a cappuccino, however keeping with a true Italian style, no coffee with milk. Just my own opinion.They did have espresso and regular coffee. Wait..not just coffee but Ily coffee. Now that's Italian. I can't wait to go back and try more dishes. I also had the pleasure of sitting next to the Puerto Rican Prince. Then we were seated at a great table in the back by a huge window and our server was the most delightful, spunky, fun, person wver. A new favorite! We went on a Saturday night with another couple to celebrate my wife's birthday. Unlike some of the other reviews we had a short 15 minute wait - sadly it had rained earlier so no bocce ball but we scoped out the place to see what everyone was eating. After we ordered drinks we got a few appetizers to share. The goat cheese with garlic was incredible and we all agreed the shrimp in butter was a hit. Glazed carrots were good but a bit over cooked. We split the Braised Short Rib and the Bolognese which were delicious. We ordered a couple of pizza's (one with artichoke and one with sausage) which we agreed could've been hotter but were still tasty. To start things off on not such a good foot, the place was overwhelming noisy. I turned my hearing aides off which reduced the noise considerably, but then I had trouble hearing the other people in my party, so I turned them back on. Later the noise level decreased significantly. My daughter had spoken to someone about the music which was then turned off. I started out with some very yummy tomato basil soup which had a very nice fresh tomato flavor. The shared dishes included a salad of proscuitto, melon, arugula and balsamic vinegar which was enjoyed by all. My daughter, who has always loved olives, ordered some. She couldn't get enough and kept raving about how good they are. She enjoyed the addition of the balsalmic vinegar to the bowl of olives. I likened it to olive oil and vinegar dressing, except that the olives were still solid. My husband had the branzini which he said was delicious. He said it was very salty in some places, less so in others. I had the garlic shrimp which was served in butter with crusty bread and a grilled lemon. The shrimp was extremely salty--almost to the point of being inedible. I added lemon juice to the shrimp and butter which made it much tastier. We drove out from Lansing to have dinner with our daughter and her in-laws. I would not drive out to Detroit again just to eat at Ottava Via. OTOH, if we were in Detroit visiting and someone said, "Let's go to Ottava Via," I would not complain. read more
