We tried Otto Pizza after reading the excellent reviews. My first impression was the lady's bathroom, where a closet door was left open exposing a filthy mop and bucket and bunch of other junk. The bathroom itself was also dirty. Yuck! Then we sat down to review the menu and noticed the bartender digging her finger in her nose and looking at what came out. Double Yuck! At this point I was ready to leave but my group insisted we stay. The pizza was fine. I prefer more sauce on my pizza, we just had Polk dots of sauce on top. The bartender continued to dig in her nose but it turned out she had a nose ring in there that must have been irritating her. Either way, not very sanitary or appetizing. I'd pass on Ottos next time. I will say our waitress was extremely sweet! read more

Potato, bacon, scallion....ah, a big slice of heaven right there! Walked down for a slice at lunch with a coworker....busy as always, line out the door....service was quick, courteous, and friendly. Generally, at least 6-8 pies available by the slice. Warmed gently in the oven for a few minutes...yum. One of 2 locations on Congress St. Whole pies available, call ahead. A few seats outside, indoor seating nextdoor. Good place for a quick lunch that you can walk away eating, Drink cooler for beverages. They will also wrap to take back to the office or to the beach. read more

Excellent pizza. Really, really, really excellent. I got the mushroom & cauliflower, pepperoni, tomato & basil. All 3 were amazing. The crust is excellent -- somehow they manage to make it chewy inside while making it crisp on the outside, while maintaining a light consistency. I really kick myself for not ordering the tortellini, as I love tortellini pizza. I guess that'll be next time. I did find it a bit weird that you had to go outside & then back inside for a place to sit; really setup funky. Totally overlooked the 'inconvenience' of it though for the deliciousness of the pizza. I do wish they had some different/better beer offerings. Seems more like an in-and-out place than a sit & drink/eat place. Fine with me, I'll just remember it for next time. read more

If a reheated slice taken out, walked to a hotel room, and eaten 15 minutes later can be this good, I cannot imagine their fresh pies. I had the one with olives, roasted red pepper, and whole garlic cloves. It is a very thin crust, yet still crispy, so you can eat it one-handed, even though the slice is large. Fold and go. The sauce was light, yet tasteful, with just a bit of spice. The cheese, too, was a thin layer, but by no means skimpy or inadequate. They spoon out a few "clumps" of sauce on top of the cheese as well, so it never gets dry. Remember, it still supports its own weight. Their menu features equal number of vegetarian pies and meat-based ones, so any preference can be filled. Staff seemed like they were really enjoying themselves, and that's always a good sign. If I were a resident, it would be my go-to pizza shop. read more

Like the thin, grease free, crispy crust style. That's pizza. You can taste the fresh herbs and toppings. If that butter/oil soaked, deep dish oily junk of unos or dominoes etc is up your alley... you won't find that here. Speciality sausage and onion and the the bacon potato green onion are winners. Cool interior and friendly staff too. I do agree with some others that the beer selection is pretty bizarre. Allagash white is a joke. And I hate the longtrail lineup. Two sides to this place..one for slices to go and one with full service and a bar. We sat down and had our baby with us, great service. Our waitress brought over some crayons for the babe. Margherita pizza was so good! We got a small and it was enough for two. Cannoli was awesome! My boyfriend likes his beer. They have prosecco wine which you can't always find. Only went here because it was the closest pizza place to my hotel. This is a very hyped up place, but I found their pizza to be cold, not greatly flavorful and overrated at best. Had two slices of Pepperoni for $7.50. Would rather have gotten a Flatizza from Subway. That's how "meh" it was. read more

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE me some Otto's Pizza. It is, in my humble opinion, the very best pizza in town. HOWEVER, I highly recommend that you stick to the lower Congress St location. My Guy and I just tried to have a nice dinner at the upper Congress St place and it was a disaster. The pizza was excellent as always, but our server was so rude and inattentive (after forgetting our beers until reminding him and then practically throwing the pizza on the table while saying "is there anything ELSE that you wanted?".) that as soon as the pizza hit the table, we asked for a to-go box and the bill, opting to leave our beers and eat pizza at home instead of staying there another minute. Good Luck, Otto's, you might want to consider server's that are actually nice to people. read more

My bar is set very high for pizza, but Ottos is really quite good. Sauce is a little sweet for my taste but the crust is great. My qualm is that I was totally turned off of Ottos by the snooty curly haired girl at the front. It keeps me away. YES they serve late and YES drunk people can suck, but it was not late yet, I was not drunk, and I was very polite to her. For such a pretty girl, she sure sucked all happiness out of there. read more

This pizza is amazing. The margarita impressed me on my first visit...then the mashed potato and bacon blew my mind and last week, I finally had the butternut squash, ricotta and cranberry. Their regular crust is delicious, but their gluten-free crust is the best I've had. The waitstaff has always been great and I've never had to wait long for a table. I'm generally wary of sampling pizza outside of NYC, but my wife and I had the case of the munchies while wandering back from Novare Res, and a slice of pizza at midnight sounded like it might hit the spot. Otto is open pretty late, and while there were a few other people in the shop when we came in, it didn't take that long to get our slices. My wife went with the mushroom slice (IIRC), while I stuck with good 'ole pepperoni. I was quite pleased with the pizza - easy to hold and fold like a proper New Yorker but without being concerned about the cheese oozing out of the slice. I really appreciated the increased amount of herbs the pizza was sprinkled with, as that gave the pizza some additional flavor and paired well against the very good tomato sauce that formed the base of the slice. The amount of pepperoni was reasonably generous, too, and with a little bit of a kick, added even more flavor to each bite. I'm much less of a casual pizza eater these days than I used to be, but I can appreciate a solid slice when I run into one and decide to have a bite. Very good quality, quick preparation - what more can you ask for? I'd come back for a regular meal sometime for sure! read more

This pizza place has been featured on Food Network and Yankee Magazine and is well worth a trip. We enjoyed the West End location but there are others elsewhere in Portland and I hear now in the Boston area as well. We had slices of the famous mashed potato, bacon and scallion pizza and it was great, but we may gave enjoyed the blue cheese, roasted pear, and arugula pizza (we added chicken) even more. The meatball appetizer and salad with fennel, radishes, and apples were also fresh, tasty, and well-prepared. Altogether a great experience from the friendly waiter to the superb food. Only thing that could have made it better is more fans or some AC. read more

One thing though; you can't get grated cheese to put on your pizza, presumably because the owner thinks it's "tacky", but there are plenty of containers of DRIED herbs within reach should you want to wreck your delicious pie with them. Do not order delivery!! We have eaten Otto's pizza for a while and it is generally very good, but I've reached my limit. Not because of the quality or taste of the pizza, but the delivery service which has continually gotten worse. I understand the current climate of the pandemic and hiring shortage and am usually quite sympathetic to the front line workers. Unfortunately, the deliveries went from being a normal 10-15 minutes late to much worse. My limit was the recent delivery which was 1 hour and 15 minutes late. The part that annoyed me even more was the person I would call to find out when it might finally get delivered. Every time I called, the person said that our address was next for delivery and should be only 5-10 minutes. After the 4th call, I asked specifically where he was and the Otto's employee said he was in the greater Portland area(that's a pretty big area) and we're on the list for upcoming deliveries. This was at an hour late. Customer service was pretty lousy for someone who's $100 pizza order was an hour and 15 minutes late and I had a house of hungry teenagers for a birthday party waiting for pizza. Like I said, Otto's pizza is very good, but not after that. There are comparable pizza joints around Portland that are as good and they will have my business from now on. read more

Delicious pizza. They have some unique pizza toppings here - my husband tried the cheese tortellini pizza. But I stuck with plain old margarita pizza and it was good too. We stopped in for the salad, slice and drink special at lunch. Easy service, good prices. No fuss. read more
