We stopped in for a late breakfast based on Yelp reviews and a quick glance at the menu. I must say the food and dining experience were exceptional. Nestled in an old historic building across from the old train depot, Otto's is both inviting and intriguing. We had three different breakfast entrées, Huevos Ranchero, Otto's special, and the country skillet. The food was both fresh, freshly prepared, seasoned ideally, and served quickly. We drove to eat breakfast after viewing options online. Get to the establishment where the VERY rude hostess asked us if we had a reservation. We said no, we weren't aware we needed one. She said the next available table for a party of 4 wouldn't be until 11:45 it being 9:30 am. We replied, oh that won't work and before we could explain she rudely interjected.."can I finish my sentence." We didn't bother hanging around. Didn't get to try the food and judging by the front of the house service quality..service is questionable. If you like that kind of thing make sure you have a reservation or else... Under new ownership as of 12/7/22. The people were great, and they now take reservations which is a big plus. The menu was drastically changed. And very limited options. Food was "upscaled" which is fine but the mix of flavors don't really work for most people. Pork belly with eggs and other ingredients all in a sandwich is a lot. Menu was overly "upscaled". they wrote that the butter milk pancakes were made with buttermilk batter. and the listed syrup butter and blueberries as if the were ingredients instead of the condiments they were used for (each came separately). the 6 blueberries were thrown on top like an after thought/garnish. Two of the open faced toast options were overly listed. I have always appreciated Brazen (who now owns Otto) for doing well with the ingredient. Yum! The fresh apple pop tarts were an afterthought but will be forever remembered as the standard from which all other pop tarts will now be compared. 4 for brunch and all happy. Good bloody Mary's made with a house made mix. Good hot biscuits and light creamy gravy, perfect potatoes. This is a relatively small venue and quite popular. This is a fantastic, charming little breakfast and lunch spot in Galenia. My parents come here for special occasions, as they live two hours away, but were excited to share it with me. They have a few tables and a small bar downstairs for seating or upstairs is a little more spacious, with an upholstered seating area, traditional dining tables as well as a small bar area. Niki was a friendly, knowledgeable and personable server. She told us about their specials, two types of quiche and an asparagus soup, then came back quickly with our drinks. Their menu included breakfast or lunch choices: omelets, French toast, pancakes, three types of hash, biscuits and gravy, a breakfast sandwich, soup & salad combinations and several sandwiches as well as dessert and side options: bacon, sausage, fruit, etc. We tried the asparagus soup, asparagus quiche with breakfast potatoes, 1/2 order of country Benedict (biscuits and gravy with two eggs & sausage gravy), and chicken club sandwich on a pretzel bun. We had to try each dessert too, but took them to go. The half order of the country Benedict was plenty for me! Two flakey, amazing biscuits with the sausage and egg on top covered in the sausage gravy. I'd definitely order it again, but they also have so many other yummy things I want to try. The asparagus soup isn't for me, and I like asparagus, but my mom loved it. Her asparagus quiche was generous with a perfectly baked flakey, buttery crust. The chicken club had a big, juicy piece of chicken with bacon, lettuce and tomato. The pretzel bun was a great addition to make it a little different. We ate the lemon ice box cake and the chocolate Guinness cake later that night. They were both incredible in their own way. The lemon ice box cake was several layers of lemon custard and curd with a fantastic icing. It would be very refreshing on a hot summer day too. The chocolate cake was very rich and perfect for any chocolate lover. Good For Breakfast Our last day in town the restaurant was open so we had breakfast. Off the beaten path and not much to look at outside but nice and clean atmosphere inside. Very casual also. Ground floor is small only a few tables however there is also a full dining area on the second floor. Service by Dillon was friendly and efficient. I had the Western Omelette and my spouse had the Sweet Potato Hash. Both meals were tasty and portions decent size. Presentation was standard but decent. Wonderful breakfast! We stopped here on Mother's Day and weren't sure we'd be able to get in. However, they have a little seating area with self-serve coffee and the wait ended up only being about 10 minutes. The food is all homemade and the ambiance is charming - it's in an old house. This is not right on the Main Street of Galena but it's very close and well worth a venture off the beaten path. As far as our breakfast, my husband had some kind of Benedict but covered in their homemade sausage gravy and I had the amazing quiche of the day. Mmmmm. Can't wait to go back! read more

I recently had the opportunity to eat at Otto's Place in Galena, Illinois. They were open for breakfast and lunch. We had breakfast. Two of my favorite breakfast items are hash and biscuits and gravy. They had sweet potato hash with a biscuit. I got a side of the sausage gravy. It may well have been my favorite breakfast ever. This a quaint little place- the downstairs is deceiving- there is an upstairs as well. A quaint little place in a quaint little town. They have a slogan that I found very worth sharing. The slogan starts with, "I wish you enough." and continues... "I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright. I wish you enough rain to make you appreciate the sun more." I came to Otto's twice in the same weekend. It was my first time in Galena for Whiskey Weekend (an excellent event) and this place came up first for breakfast and brunch. The people of Yelp are spot on regarding this lovely place. Otto's Place is a cute yet somewhat spacious place. We went first on Saturday morning and it was bustling with lots of locals and tourists alike. The entire décor is cozy and inviting. We were sat upstairs and had prompt and friendly service, not overbearing, which I love! My husband had the Country Benedict, a large portion with 2 biscuits, eggs and sausage gravy. He really enjoyed it. I had "Dan's Quiche", which featured bacon, Jårlsberg cheese and caramelized onions. Absolutely delicious! The texture was very well executed, fluffy and flavorful, not salty and not artificial. I was not too crazy about the potatoes but the quiche was so good, I didn't care too much. I also had a nice cup of coffee. The second time I went, earlier in the morning on Sunday. A different vibe but still nice. I had the half Country Benedict and it was really good. I also had an Otto Mosa, their twist on a Mimosa but with St. Germain (elderflower liqueur) - yummy and dangerous! And because I was hungryyyy and in a #YOLO mood, I also had a piece of their coffee cake. Lovely cake with crumbly nuts and kind of cinnamon topping, do not miss it. As I sit here in Otto's Place I'm looking out the window enjoying the beautiful town of Galena. This is a town of a yesteryear of when things were much simpler. Otto's Place makes you feel like you are at home enjoying breakfast. This is the place where locals and tourists alike enjoy breakfast/brunch and lovely conversation. There are two floors here and the building was built in the late 1800's so the original hardwood floors, windows and doors take you back in time. On to the food...Fresh, quick, and amazing. I've eaten here twice. First time enjoyed fresh eggs, home made sausage, potatoes and buttermilk pancake. AMAZING and AWESOME. The potatoes were so dam good. The second time I had the sweet potato hash which has crumbled sausage, finely diced onions and peppers, two eggs on top and a house made biscuit on the side. Another great choice here and they have a FULL Bar for vacation brunch. While this place is not on Main Street it is just over the very small bridge. They have very cute story as to how the name was picked. I was going to post a picture of the story but you will have to take the trip there and read it for yourself. read more

Wow what a disappointment. This had been such a great place however we just had the worst experience. Walked in, hostess wouldn't even look at us and finally begrudgingly asked in a totally perturbed manner "how many?" As a professional couple we kindly replied two please. As a couple left their window table, we asked could we please sit there? She was cleaning another table off and just moved to the window table to clean (no comment to us, but we were thankful). In the meantime a man (I typically would say gentleman but he doesn't get the courtesy) asked us how many. We replied 2 but we were hoping to sit at the window table that a couple had just left. He looked at us incredulously "there are just two of you?" We answered yes is that a problem , again we are just wanting to be the next couple at the window table. " we fill up". We said fine, is that a problem though? He was totally put out by us. Since victory cafe is under construction we were doubly disappointed. On Sunday morning around 11 am we ordered breakfast to go. Because it was "prime time" I expected the wait time would be extended for my order. Instead, it was ready in minutes! I was pleasantly surprised given the dining room was mostly full. We ordered Country Benedict with poached eggs and an omelette with potatoes. Everything was great. The potatoes were done just right, and the poached eggs were perfectly executed. I could tell that the eggs, along with all of the other ingredients, were very fresh. Our "to go" order was packed in pie pan type containers, which did not leak and kept everything hot by the time I got them back to where we were staying. I look forward to the next time I am in Galena, and look forward to exploring the menu further. read more

We came to galena for the weekend and ended by coming here for breakfast on a Sunday morning and we were blown away. First of all if you can request David as your server do so. Friendly and helpful. Made several suggestions and recommendations. Answered any questions we had and was quick to get us anything we needed. The biscuits and gravy might be the best we've had. And the mushroom, spinach, Swiss quiche was out of this world. The otto sunrise was strong but well balanced drink using both orange vodka and orange juice. I highly recommend this place. The upstairs has couches and tables. So cozy. We called ahead. Good thing we did, because it was getting packed by the time we got there. They seated us in less than 5 minutes. My husband loved his dish, I can't remember now what it was... sorry! I had a half southern benedict. It consisted of a fresh biscuit with amazing sausage patties, and poached eggs. The sausage gravy was loaded with huge chunks of sausage! We sat by a window and the sun was shining i through the trees, so it was just right - not too bright. I so wish this place was near my home. I'd go there ALL the time. Read the laminated card they have on each table about how they came to name the place. Cute story! High quality food, great service! There are so many more items I want to try. It looks like I will have to take a trip back to Galena soon! read more
