We went to Outback last night. There was a snow storm so it wasn't very busy. We were a party of 10 and though they were able to seat us together, it was a round table awkwardly scooted up to a two top connected to the wall. We were crowded but happy to be seated together. The seating is why I'm giving only 4 stars. Our waiter was very attentive. I don't think he had many tables to take care of, but he was good. He brought warm brown bread and butter to the table, I think we had 2 or 3 refills of bread before the night was over. We ordered a onion blossom and outback fries as appetizers, both were good! I like the onion blossom and sauce more than Texas Roadhouse. We had ranch with the fries and it was delicious house-made ranch. I had a bleu cheese wedge salad, baked potato, 6oz sirloin (medium) and coconut shrimp The salad was particularly good! I'm not a huge fan of blue cheese but I just removed some of the crumbles that were on the salad and what was left was delicious! There was a sweet balsamic reduction that made a great accompaniment to the rich creamy dressing. The potato was a potato... The shrimp was yummy, I've had it before so I knew what to expect. first the service. very disappointed server came by said be right with you then went to a table beside and started talking definitely friends/family. 11 mins later we got to put in a coke and a water order plus went ahead and put our food order in because we didn't know when she would be back. ask to speak with manager the server was at our table then she came to address not real good timing to do it. poor to be honest. I have never had a bad experience at outback steakhouse. Obviously their produce delivery didn't come in this weekend and they had no blooming onions and we're serving salads out of salad bag mixes from the grocery store. I ordered a loaded baked potato asking to be sure that I'd be a fresh hot one and of course it was like cold and runny on the inside not hot and steamy. Katie Lynn our waitress was fantastic I over tipped her because I feel sorry that she has to sell such crappy food. The steak was good the mashed potatoes were decent. Loaded baked potato and salad like I said were terrible. Not one loaf of bread came out hot barely warm kookaburra wings were hot but not steaming. To think I went there to celebrate my 19th anniversary. I don't know what it is with restaurant these days but there's gonna be a bunch of out of business places I could've bought some tremendous food for 80 bucks today and made it myself. read more

Very rude waitress by the nae of Evelyn H. We had to ask to be waited on multiple times. Had to ask for togo boxes multiple times. When it came time to pay for it we asked for a pen so we could sign our receipts and she said in a crappy tone"dont you have one on you?" I will never eat at this location ever again. Seems like every time we come here we have long waits for our food. Twice we waited over an hour and the last time was 45 minutes. Asked for the manager and all he would say is sorry. I'm not sure if the floors were mopped with a mildewed mop or if the grease traps needed attention. We sat down hoping the scent was not in the dining area. One bartender is a 1 and the other bartender is a 8 on the 1-10 service scale so far, like dr Jekyll and Mr hyde, we ordered a coke and a beer so far, then ordered steak and unlimited shrimp, we got our side salads, normal, what we expected i do really like their croutons! My boyfriend and I sat at the bar to watch football while we ate. Originally tried Texas Roadhouse, but they were packed so we were pleasantly surprised with how much capacity there was for a Saturday night. Our bartender was awesome and we always had refills before we needed them. The food was really good too. She did let us know that most of the staff was new so just be patient as like most businesses they are trying to get new staff up to speed after the pandemic. read more

We got our food and my sister needed ketchup and steak sauce, while we were waiting for that her steak wasn't cooked right and her shrimp was cold. About 15 minutes later when everyone else was done eating he came back over a she told him it was cooked wrong and he said he was going to remake it, then went and talked to a different table. The manager and server I had here were great. Unfortunately when we went in the kitchen was having an off day (hopefully just a random thing). The appetizer came out after 30 minutes of waiting. Our food came out about 30-40 minutes after that. My steak was well done when I ordered medium rare and told my waitress that I preferred it to be more pink than too over done. The steak I received had very very very little pink. My boyfriend ordered the same and his was still red and had juices all over the plate. (I would have preferred that to over done) both of us ordered shrimp and it was horrible. It was almost like the kitchen put it in the microwave and then thrown on a grill to make it have that grill cooked look. It was like eating a crunchy tire. The manager and server were really great and took our issues seriously. They were fantastic and had A+ customer service. I hope that they were able to fix the issues in the kitchen. I will give them another chance eventually to see if it was an off day or not. read more

Well, that was a waste of $45! We asked the waiter if they sell a half of a blooming onion and he said no. We decided to get one anyway and what arrived was a pile of fried onion pieces. They were okay, but not what I remembered from before. The salads were fine, but then the steak came. I am not a cook, just an occasional backyard griller, but as soon as I touched it with my fork, I could tell the steak was rare (we had ordered "medium"). Sure enough, when I cut it in half (my wife and I were splitting it), the center was deep red (what we call "blue"). We flagged down the waiter and told him about it. He took the pieces and came back a bit later with them. I felt the two pieces with my fork. One of them seemed firm, but the other still felt under done. Once again, I cut the piece in half and it was still deep red inside. So we sent the pieces back and asked to see the manager. When the manager came, he informed us that what we had received was cooked medium and that we apparently didn't understand their temperature chart. So, since the waiter had failed to take the menus from us, I opened one to the temperature picture, pointed to the rare steak, and told the manager that was what was delivered to the table. When he came back with the pieces of steak, he asked how it was. I poked them and said, "well, they aren't rare". Unfortunately, they were quite well done and dry. The manager said something about getting us a another side, but we declined. I know a one star rating is pretty harsh, but this is a steakhouse. If your cooks don't know how to tell the doneness of a steak by poking at it, they make thermometers, which is what I use at home. So there is no excuse. read more

This is my favorite space to get a steak. And I really like their Blooming Onions although you can no longer order a half order so you have to go with someone who also likes that. I also like their Foster's Beer in the large mug. Their mashed potatoes are pretty good too. I do have a complaint though. We hardly ever go to Outback (or any casual dining place, for that matter) but we had a gift card and wanted to use it. Plus, I remembered they had seared ahi tuna and I thought that might stave off my sushi craving just a little. It didn't disappoint... exactly. We split the small Ahi Tuna appetizer, thinking we didn't want to fill up early. It was really tasty, although not very seared (which suits me fine) and when they say small, they mean SMALL. There were six very thin slices of tuna on top of a lettuce wedge. The wasabi and ginger dressing was awesome, though. I kind of wanted to drink it with a straw. I got: -Black Cherry Peach Mojito: Tasty if you're into a combination of flavors and one of the less expensive drinks on the menu. Didn't taste much rum in it, though... hmm. -Tilapia with Lump Crab and Seasonal Veggies: The fish itself was light and non-fishy-tasting, but the cooks overdid it on the seasoned salt and pepper that coated the outside of it. The crab was okay and offered a break in the overly-seasoned action. Kyle got: (in his own words) -Caesar side salad: "Salad was good. It was very cheesy and lots of dressing. As far as Caesar salads go, it probably had too much dressing and cheese, but I liked it. It was... I don't know." -New York Strip (cooked medium-rare) and garlic mashed potatoes: "The steak was pretty average. It was cooked right, but had too much pepper. Pretty average potatoes." "I would give the general experience a C+. But to be fair, I'd give most casual dining places a C+." The service was pretty good. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were nice and attentive. Have been going to This location for years. Sometimes it's hit or miss, according to staff and if they're hit with a crowd. But if you're wanting a steak and a good drink, you've come to the right place. I usually get the 6 oz filet cut and it's always good. I've added on lobster (I like steamed; hubs gets grilled) or I get shrimp add on. Love their salad and it comes with a loaf of bread. Have tried nearly every side but their huge baked potato is a winner. Not sure what they do to it but it has a tasty skin. Drinks are great and the guys always go for the beer. Wallaby Darned is refreshing and very tasty, but of course there is an array of soft drinks and tea. I never have room for dessert, but everything looks good. It's Outback. Every year I take my 20something nephew out for his birthday. His choice this year was Outback. This is the second time I've dined at the Muncie location and both times the host/hostess seemed overwhelmed even though neither time was during peak hours. Other than that, service was excellent. Our server Nathan was completely attentive. We split the shrimp on the barbie app and then both had the surf and turf dinner. I ordered my steak medium rare and felt as though the steak could have been left on the grill just a few minutes longer. I randomly mentioned that every year I take my nephew out for a birthday dinner and Nathan gave him a free mini milkshake. It was a nice way to end what my nephew deemed an awesome birthday meal. read more

Previously: First, the positive. The food was great. Now, the negative. After being seated for 15 minutes, our waiter came by and said he had other things to do and would be back shortly. No problem. They were busy. Another 15 minutes or so and another waiter asks if we'd been greeted. We told him what our waiter said and a few minutes later a manager takes our drink order. Our waiter finally shows up with no bread. We ask for bread several times before actually getting it. After a while, when the manager brings out our appetizers, our waiter finally decides to take our order. Food took a while, but that's expected. When it finally came out, the BBQ chicken was missing BBQ sauce and one meal was completely missing. When it finally came out, it was missing the topping that I paid extra for. Another bar drink was ordered but never came. Everything the waiter could have done wrong, he did. He was absent minded and absent physically most of the 3 hour ordeal. Finally went back, hoping for a better experience. We returned on Wednesday, June 21st. We had received an apology and $40 in gift cards, or approximately 30% of the bill from the previous experience. We were told to let the manager know that we were there and had some issues last time. The waiter approached our table and informed us they were out of bread due to Father's Day. Disappointing, but forgivable. We ordered drinks and an appetizer and asked to speak to the manager. She walked by once, but didn't stop. The waiter said she was busy talking to guests about the no bread thing. Finally, she came, and we explained that we had a bad time the last time. She remembered, because she was the manager we spoke to that time. She explained that she had been busy, and explained that she was comping meals for the lack of bread at another table. (She did not offer anything to us. My meal came with a "domestic draft beer." The waiter told me it had to be Budweiser, which was fine, but untrue according to the menu. Several minutes later, he came back and said it HAD to be Bud Light. Also untrue, but again, acceptable. After about 20 minutes, my lukewarm beer finally arrived. The food came out, and was mostly correct, except he admitted that he forgot to put in the kid's grilled cheese sandwich for my 6 year old. Luckily, it was a quick turnaround, but the rest of us were nearly done with our steaks, chicken, and ribs entrees. That's when he decided to ask if anyone needed any Heinz 57 or steak sauce... We had already completed 80% of the meal. After knowing that we were there for a retry, they failed to impress us. There appeared to be plenty of staff, and the restaurant wasn't even half full. No bread, untrained and absent-minded waitstaff, and the manager tells us she's comping some meals for the lack of bread, but not even comping our appetizer. Admittedly, it wasn't AS bad as the last time, but it was bad in new and inexcusable ways. read more

This review is based solely on the service prior to food. As a group of 9 we used the call ahead seating. When we arrived the hostess told us that we had already been seated which was odd because we were standing in front of her. The next non truth was that our wait would be 15 minutes and it is now past 45 minutes and we are still waiting. Our table had been given away to a group of 6. The hostess told us that she would talk to the manager - still no where to be found. A waiter did come and offer us two separate tables or outside in 90 degree weather. First off, yes this a chain- get over it. If you are reading this then you are also in Muncie, so you know it's slim pickens when it comes to restaurant choices. Outback is a regular spot for me and the hubster. We go about every 2 weeks to get our steak on. The Ahi Tuna appetizer is great. It is a little pricy but nothing you wouldn't pay at a sushi place. It is sashimi grade tuna with a light sear and is spice encrusted around the edges. It is served on a spear of romaine with 2 yummy sauces. A wasabi vinaigrette and a ginger soy. Both sauces are phenomenal. This is my favorite appetizer, and actually if you get the full order you could eat it as your meal (if you aren't too hungry, even the full order may leave you wanting) The best deal is their Outback Special. You get a 6 oz sirloin with 2 sides and unlimited bread for $9.99?! Um hello, that's better than a crap factory like Sirloin Stockade... seriously. I order my sirloin Medium Rare as I have found anything cooked more well than that comes out too well for my liking. Also, ask for extra seasoning. This will give your taste buds a spicy kick in the mouth. Next up, sides. I love their broccoli, the French Onion soup, baked potato, blue cheese pecan chop salad, green beans... well, I could go on. I haven't had a side I didn't like. Everything is fresh and if you ever get anything you aren't happy, then let your server know and they will fix it ASAP. I have had, on occasion during mid-week visits, not received my steak cooked to my liking. The server was always, without questions or resistance, able to remedy the situation by getting me another steak. Oddly enough, I have found that their best cook works on the weekends, so whenever Mark W. is working our food comes out as if cooked by a steak god. When I have had overcooked steaks from Outback, it's because Mark W. wasn't working the grill. This Outback makes their salad dressings fresh, they make their sauces fresh- it is not a packet of dried powder added to water, not here. And you can verify for yourself by asking your server or when a manager stops by to make sure things are OK. (Managers stop by 80% of the time we have found). This place can get busy on the weekends since it is the only place to get a quality steakhouse experience for so little money in Muncie. Service can be hit or miss (these are mostly Ball State students working their way through college) so I generally set my expectations a little lower because I know most of them are doing the best they can. No place you can get a steak dinner for $9.99 is going to hit it out of the ballpark every time, but we have been consistently pleased with the food, service and ambiance of Outback Steakhouse in Muncie. Tip: They do call ahead seating! Save yourself a grumbling tummy by calling ahead and getting your name on the weekend wait list. Everyone will be jealous when you walk in and get seated right away ;-P read more
